Officina Bernardi is a Venetian jewelry brand with affordable price born in 2007 that has been relaunched and that knows a good success in the United States. The Veneto Region is identified abroad mainly with Venice. And for this Aurora Blue, the last collection of Officina Bernardi, which is part of a goldsmith’s company, the Chrysos of Borso del Grappa (Treviso), is inspired by the city on the water. The collection consists of a few pieces (two necklaces, a bracelet, a ring, a pair of earrings) made of rhodium-plated sterling silver and light blue mother-of-pearl, reminiscent of the sea that bathes Venice, at least when the sun is shining blue sky. But mother-of-pearl, among other things, has been for centuries a material that is part of the goldsmith’s tradition. Prices range between 100 and 300 euros approximately. Margherita Donato

Sillage is a word that in French means to wake up. But also means the trail left by a scent. Now, more, it is also a line of ten divisible and interchangeable jewels by Gaia Caramazza. Inspiration, is the right word to use, are the fragrances of the olfactory workshop. An example of transformation is represented by the pendant that becomes a brooch, with a motif inspired by Rome. Gaia Caramazza is, in fact, Roman. She graduated from the Academy of Arts in Rome and began her profession as a designer in 2012. At the beginning she was oriented towards fashion, to develop more the more properly goldsmith side. The collection, after debuting at Altaroma, an event linked to the world of fashion, the collection was presented in the Flagship Store of Dr. Vranjes Firenze, a perfume store. If in spring nature re-blossoms, which plant is more symbolic of the rose? And which flower is more romantic than a wild rose? Last question: what is the flower that the English are most fond of? The answer is always the same: the rose is the flower that is best matched to the new season. With (perhaps) these considerations in mind, Giovanni Raspini (who recently opened a shop in London) still elaborates his version of silver jewelry, but with the addition of careful processing and, sometimes, of stones. The Wild Rose collection, for example, uses burnished silver and pink opal: a fully successful contrast. The natural stone is used with a cabochon cut in two dimensions and is well suited to the floral theme of the collection, which includes two different necklaces, bracelets, two types of earrings and a ring. Because there is nothing more romantic than a sentence, a name, a date linked to a particular meaning, that accompanies the Valentine’s day. And this is the idea of the collection Ricordami by Morellato, presented on the occasion of Valentine’s Day. The pendants to be added to the chain include all the letters of the alphabet in silver 925, to which a zircon is added. For the five vowels, the zircon is in blue. A very concrete dreamer. Despite her latest collection is called The Dreamers, Gala Rotelli is a designer who does not lose sight of the concreteness. On the contrary, she has the objective of translating signs and dreams into objects: her jewelry. The road is that from color, painting and, more generally, creativity leads to the discovery of matter. That said, it seems the description of an artistic activity. And, in fact, the parameters are precisely those: daughter of the painter and sculptor Marco Nereo Rotelli, Gala is inspired by the blue of Yves Klein (French painter who came to patent a particular shade of this color), but also to Jackson Pollock. So much so that, before throwing himself headlong into the jewelry, she also created objects inspired by the abstraction of the American painter.
To get to designing jewelery, Gala graduated in Architecture at the University of Florence, worked in Milan and New York, attended Design and Trend Forecasting at the Parsons School of Design in Paris, and studied Modern Art at the Sotheby’s Institute of Art of London, followed the Masters in Jewelery Design at the School of Design of the Milan Polytechnic. Finally, in 2016 he chose to make the jewelry designer full time, with a studio and workshop in Milan.
The Dreamers
The Dreamers, the latest collection of Gala Rotelli, is made of 24 carat gold-plated silver («24 carats because it gave the right amount of yellow to the jewels that have a silver base»). The jewels are inspired by celestial symbols, natural themes and some iconic images of modern art. «The underlying concept is that every woman, when she undertakes to realize her dream, becomes better, strengthens her identity, is more beautiful and luminous. And unconsciously begins a process of empowerment», explains the designer. «The jewels are produced in Valenza, the glasses in Murano, the ceramics in Este or Vietri: each one corresponds to a territory of competence, but because the forms speak (the stars of the sky become jugs, the flowers of Andy Warhol that they are transformed into earrings, the dripping of Pollock becomes a dish) are ready to overcome the Italian borders to remember the beauty of dreams even to those who are not Italian».
The Gala Rotelli’s jewelry are on sale on the website that has her name, in her studio in Via Aurelio Saffi 25 in Milan and from February on the emerging e-commerce site Denoise Design. Soon they will also arrive in boutiques and physical stores. A few indicative prices: a double moon lapis ring 250 euros, Arcobaleno bracelet 680 euros, Spirale Luna bracelet 360 euros, Tao ring 220 euros.

The big jewelry houses are looking for the key to open the door that leads to the world of millennials. That is the younger ones, who seem less impressed by the paludate tradition of historical brands. That’s why new brands are born, which not only appeal to a younger audience, but are also created by new players. This is the case of Giulia and Federica Faggi, two Tuscan sisters who founded Rockyourmind about a year ago. The name of the jewelery brand is already an idea that suggests what kind of earrings, necklaces and bracelets are offered. First of all, a lot of design. Essential lines, without frills with direct geometries: squares, circles, triangles, rhombuses. The dimensions of the individual pieces can also be tending to maxi. The rhodium silver is in different colors (gold, silver, pink): it’s the base metal, but worked with a handmade scratch that personalizes the object. The jewels are already distributed in some jewelers store but, coherently with the mission of Rockyourmind, they are also on sale on the website of the small Maison. Even the prices are homogeneous to the audience to which the brand is addressed: ranging from 48 euros for the less expensive ring, up to 275 for the Big triangle pendent with a 90 cm chain and 315 euros for the Linear triangle bracelet.

The jewels of Giovanni Raspini have silver as their common denominator. Indeed, the white and shiny metal is the absolute starting point for all the collections of the Tuscan brand. It is no exception Tree of Life, collection that evolves from the sign of the tree and its leaves in necklace, pendant, earrings. Alongside the philosophical meaning and inspiration for the world of nature, the small collection of silver pieces has an aesthetic message.
