Awesome Takat

From India to New York: Takat jewelry as maharaja style is an opulent dream of many women ♦

Haji Nisar Ahmed Takat, descended from an ancient Indian family of carvers of precious stones, he founded the brand that bears his name in 1955 in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. From the merchants of stones, in what is the jewelry capital of India, Takat became jewelry brand known around the world. And in 2000, Rayaz Ahmed Takat, nephew of Ahmed Haji, opened the third seat of the trading company in New York, while Irfan Ahmed, another grandson of the founder, has opened an office in Hong Kong.

This premise to explain to those unfamiliar with this company, that it is an international player, accustomed to offer jewelery for a Western audience and not just for the rich Indians. The style of their jewelry, as you can see on this page, is rich, often with massive stones, but in many cases the Eastern tasteful decoration takes second place. Or, rather, there are both types of jewel: the one with hyper-decorations reminiscent of the inside of the Mughal era architecture, but also one that privileges the individual beauty of a stone, without adding tons of squiggles. You can choose. Margherita Donato

Bonhams, the best jewelry at auction

//

Jewels by Van Cleef & Arpels, sapphires and carved emeralds: these are the most beautiful pieces from the next Bonhams auction ♦ ︎

For lovers of vintage jewels, but those that will never go out of fashion or even lose value, Thuesday 24 September, in London, the auction house Bonhams proposes some pieces that can entice collectors and lovers of fine jewelry. For example, a series of pieces by Van Cleef & Arpels that share a generous use of rubies are in the catalog. The jewels are part of a collection acquired around 1990, which includes a bracelet with rubies and diamonds made with Mystery Set, the patented technique of the Maison. The bracelet contains 177 perfectly matched rubies, each cut and set without spaces or claws.

Another strong point of the auction concerns sapphires, which after all are also the stone of the month of September. Two rings in particular are in the spotlight. The first has a 5.16-carat oval-cut sapphire flanked by two brilliant-cut diamonds. The second is a ring with a sapphire of 4.46 carats and diamonds, dated around 1900. Both sapphires come from Kashmir and have not been heated.

A sapphire for Sotheby’s

A bracelet with an exceptional 47-carat Burmese sapphire from Cartier at the center of upcoming Sotheby’s auctions ♦ ︎

The big, spectacular, expensive jewels are back on the boards of the great auction houses. It is the turn of Sotheby’s, which presents a group of extraordinary jewels from an important American collection. It is a large collection of Cartier designer jewelry, which was collected by an important collector, who over the course of 50 years has acquired important pieces from the best jewelry houses, and in particular from Cartier. But it also includes jewelry by Van Cleef & Arpels and the King of Diamonds, Harry Winston. The result is a collection consisting of two distinct strands. On one side, a nucleus of pieces in classical style adorned with important diamonds and precious stones. On the other side, beautiful but less precious day jewels.

Lo zaffiro birmano del peso di 47,07 carati, affiancato da due diamanti bianchi a forma di pera del peso rispettivamente di 9,27 e 8,60 carati

Cartier’s Art Deco bracelet has an extraordinary design; its central stone is a sensational Burmese sapphire of the highest quality and color. Timeless pieces like these will surely have a global appeal.
David Bennett, international president of Sotheby’s Jewelery

The most important piece in the collection is considered to be an Art Deco style sapphire and diamond bracelet created by Cartier in 1927: these are the years that many consider the golden age for the jewelry house. The bracelet is decorated with a sensational Burmese sapphire weighing 47.07 carats, flanked by two splendid pear-shaped white diamonds weighing 9.27 and 8.60 carats respectively. The estimate is 2-3 million dollars.

Harry Winston’s Candy

/

The most precious candies in the world: those of the Harry Winston Candy collection ♦ ︎

The candies are good, although sometimes they can have a certain price. For example, the candies signed by Harry Winston will appeal to all women, although not all women will be able to taste them or, better, wear them. The American Maison has presented an extraordinary series of cocktail rings entitled Winston Candy.

The collection offers central gems in bright colors, combined with diamonds and bright stones in matching colors.

In short, everything revolves around these sweets, which are gems selected for their beauty and quality, above average: precious mandarin garnets, rare tourmalines, up to pastel sapphires and lively spinels have been used as the colors of a palette to make the collection.
There is also a historical reference, since the collection was conceived starting from a series of archival drafts from the Fifties and Sixties, the period of maximum splendor of the Maison, with the combination and combinations of colored stones from various shapes with round brilliants. Although, in fact, Harry Winston was famous especially for diamonds, he was also known as “King of Diamonds”. But, probably, the candies were never him missing.

Harry Winston adds colored stones to his classic Loop collection ♦

Harry Winston is a luxury jewelry brand, specializing particularly in diamond jewelery, often large and of excellent quality. But not only, as evidenced by the addition of new pieces in its classic Loop collection. The diamonds, however, do not disappear: in this case they are complement of pink sapphires, aquamarine, yellow sapphires and black spinels, stones that make rings, earrings or pendants.

Diamonds and colored stones form jewels with the appearance of four-petal flowers, while in the diamond-only version they also form drops.

Sutra in color or in black and white

With the colors of the rainbow or in black and white: the jewels of Sutra for the tenth anniversary ♦ ︎

The rainbow has inspired poets, writers and painters. But it has also inspired jewelry designers such as the Arpita couple and Divyanshu Navlakha, who founded the Maison Sutra just ten years ago. Rainbow is the name given to a collection of Sutras that, as you can imagine, includes multicolored jewels. Yet they are jewels made of one stone: the sapphire. This precious stone, in fact, can take on different colors, from blue to orange, from yellow to green.

A collection with rubies from Greenland

A collection of jewels made up exclusively of rubies and sapphires extracted in Greenland: it’s proposed by Danish jeweler Hartmann ♦ ︎

You remained at the rubies of Burma, the most wanted. Alternatively, those from Sri Lanka or Tanzania. You have to update yourself: here are the rubies of Greenland which, for the first time, are used to compose a single collection. The idea is by Ulrik Hartmann, a Danish jeweler who launches a collection made up of rubies and sapphires extracted from the frozen depths of the Arctic country.

The collection consists of over 50 pieces, made with around 300 carats of greenish pink rubies and sapphires.

Anello con rubino cabochon della Groenlandia

If you are interested, know that the price of jewels is between 1500 and 45000 dollars. The decision of Hartmann was made after visiting the country’s mines, which highlight sustainable processes for the extraction of the gems: each Greenland Ruby stone is endowed with a certificate of origin authorized and issued by the Government of Greenland, which guarantees a high standard for human rights and environmental responsibility, the company said.
At the moment there is only one company that extracts pink rubies and sapphires in Greenland in a remote site of Aappaluttoq, 155 miles south of Nuuk, the capital of the country. And it does not have to be a walk. Giulia Netrese

Out of the ordinary is also the 16.33 carat cushion-cut sapphire set with triangular-shaped and circular-cut diamonds and a 7.83-karat Kashmir sapphire set among baguette-cut diamonds.

Christie’s also highlights the steel and diamond tiara designed by Cartier, dated 1912-1915.

It brings the brand of creator Henri Picq, who was responsible for some of the most exceptional jewelry made by Cartier in the early twentieth century. This tiara was not only designed by one of the greatest fashion houses of all time, but was also made by one of the best laboratories in the world at the time. After a long history, the tiara was part of the heritage of the von Fürstenberg family until 2015.
Among the pieces of the big names in jewelery, there is an Egyptian-style sautoir by Van Cleef & Arpels dated 1924, in full Egyptology of those years. It depicts a winged scarab, representing Khepri, the morning sun. In antiquity these objects were placed on the chest of the dead as a symbol of resurrection. The cartouche-shaped panel surrounding the scarab remembers those used to write the names of kings in the hieroglyphs. The hawk was the protector of royalty in ancient Egypt.

The three jewels of Jar for sale were purchased by their current owners directly from the Place Vendôme atelier in Paris and will be offered for auction for the first time.

The spectacular multi-bud brooch Bouquet of violets was created in 1993 and includes pink tourmalines, rubies, sapphires, colored and colorless diamonds, green garnets and tanzanites. The butterfly brooch dates back to 1990, while the Ivy Leaves earrings, created a year later, are set with single-cut diamonds in silver and gold.

For pearl lovers, there are some with an adventurous story. Like the pearl necklace purchased by Cartier in May 1920 by Horace Elgin Dodge (1868-1920),a former mechanics who became rich in America producing engines and automobiles. Horace Dodge gave the necklace to his daughter by paying a sum equivalent to 70 million today’s dollars. The origin of the pearls is attributed to the Empress of Russia Catherine the Great.

Gucci, new snakes for Alessandro Michele

/

A snake of ancient Egypt for the Ouroboros collection by Gucci in the reign of Alessandro Michele. New pieces are now added to the collection presented at Baselworld ♦ ︎

Gucci is also jewelry. The Maison with the green and red ribbon, in fact, for some time also offers extensions of its style in the jewelry industry. But, as you know, fashion houses follow the way of understanding the look dictated by their creative director. Here, then, that the Ouroboros collection presented at Baselworld has the imprint of Alessandro Michele, the face and signature of the Tuscan Maison. So, under the sign of the snake, it is also found on prêt-à-porter and bags. The Ouroboros jewelry collection, based on the classic design of the creeping reptile, refers to the Egyptian symbol of the snake eating its tail, endless creation and destruction. It is also a symbol associated with alchemy, gnosticism and hermeticism.

The new pieces of the Gucci Ouroboros collection include rings of different widths (three laps or five turns), which can be worn together.

But it is likely that those who buy it do not pay much attention to the symbolism of antiquity.
The collection also includes 18-karat yellow gold multi-finger rings, with a round brilliant, sapphires, red topaz and white and black diamonds. The ring in the most precious version has five laps. And it is only the beginning, because Gucci has announced that he will propose other jewels with the shape of the snake, in particular necklaces and pendants. Margherita Donato

The Luminosa collection, in fact, is a successful case of the Maison that is part of the Damiani group. And so periodically the collection is expanded with new pieces. And now also with the addition of color.

At VicenzaOro Salvini presented variants of the Luminosa collection with rubies, emeralds and sapphires.

In short, not just diamonds, which remain the queen stone of the Piedmontese house, but also that touch of classic precious gems. Salvini, it is good to remember, follows a path away from the experimentations, sometimes bizarre, of some designers. Instead, he prefers the sure approach of a style that is mostly dedicated to jewelry for anniversaries, engagements and weddings. In this case rings, necklaces and earrings keep the star shape that has inaugurated the collection, but put in the center a stone that adds liveliness to the jewel. Lavinia Andorno

Jewels with rubies, emeralds and sapphires from Salvini’s Colourful collection ♦ ︎

A diamond is forever, but even a ring with a ruby or a sapphire is joking. Although Salvini is a trademark of jewelry often associated with the classic white gold and diamonds, its music it’s not everytime the same. The Colourful collection, for example, as the name suggests is dedicated to jewels with colored stones. In harmony with the Salvini style, these are jewels with classic shapes, but with a particularity: the stones in the center of the jewels are cut to heart. It is not a usual form for ruby reds and blue sapphires or green emeralds, with stones mounted on a four-jaw setting. Always combined with diamonds, so as not to lose the imprinting of the Maison.
This new view of the collection interpreted by the stones in the shape of a heart is designed to become a welcome gift for the engagement, or for some important occasion. A few indicative prices: the white gold, diamond and ruby earrings cost about 2500 euros, a ring with sapphire 2500 euros, chain and pendant with ruby 2200 euros. Lavinia Andorno

Kashmir records for Faraone Casa d’Aste

A Sapphire of Kashmir get 12 buyers in competition at sale of Faraone Casa d’Aste. In the end it was sold for … ♦ ︎
Half a million euros is not cheap. Indeed, it is very much for an auction dedicated to jewelry and watches organized in Milan. And it is the sum agreed for lot 282 of the sale organized at the Four Season by Faraone Casa d’Aste. The auctioneer Patrizia di Carrobio has awarded, for 545,000 euros, a platinum ring with Kashmir sapphire, with a cushion cut of about 9 carats, surrounded by diamonds. The price is in line with the valuations of similar stones on other plazas, but it is also over five times the basic value, which was set at only 100,000 euros. In short, the race to win the ring saw a series of raises by 12 foreign bidders connected by telephone.
Good reception also for the two previous lots, 281 and 273. The first was a demi-piece by Van Cleef & Arpels, consisting of a ring and earrings in platinum with 14 carats of brilliant cut diamonds and 15 carats of round rubies, with a base auction of 15,000 euros was beaten for 60,000, after a long series of raises. The second lot, platinum ring with 4.65 carats octagonal emerald, surrounded by brilliant cut diamonds and baguette, was awarded on the phone at a value of 30,000 euros from a base of 14,000.
The Milanese auction house also signals lot 276, a platinum ring signed Bulgari with an old cut diamond of about 3 carats, surrounded by brilliant cut diamonds and baguette of about 3 carats, wrought for 16,000 euros. Sales totaled around 1,210,000 euros. Now the after sale starts. Federico Graglia

Jewels at auction with Faraone

Faraone Casa d’Aste returns with a sale of 300 pieces: here are the most precious jewels ♦ ︎
In Milan the jewels of Faraone Casa d’Aste are back. The sale scheduled for May 14 includes over 300 lots of jewelry and watches of the twentieth century. The one scheduled at the Four Seasons Hotel in Milan is the first of two annual auction events (now a classic), while the second one precedes the Christmas period. The May auction catalog, among other things, marks a growth compared to the previous appointments of Faraone Casa d’Aste: in fact, it exceeds the 240 lots in November and 160 in May 2017.
The most precious pieces
The company, which is the arm specialized in the sales of the historic Faraone jewelry, signals in particular two rings. The first is made of platinum with Kashmir sapphire, one of the rarest gems in the world, with a cushion cut of about 9 carats, surrounded by diamonds. The second ring, on the other hand, has a 13-carat Colombian emerald wrapped in baguette-cut diamonds. Other pieces that may be among the most requested: a platinum pin, punched Monture Cartier, with a 3.10 carat Colombian emerald placed in the middle of a game of platinum bands covered with 8.20 carats of old cut diamonds and baguettes. On sale also a set of Van Cleef & Arpels, consisting of ring and earrings in platinum with 14 carats of brilliant cut diamonds and 15 carats of round rubies, plus a bracelet, also in platinum, with five sapphires for a total of 22 carats surrounded by as many carats of baguette and brilliant diamonds. As for the jewels, there is also a Bulgari punched platinum ring with a central cut diamond of about 3 carats, surrounded by brilliant cut diamonds and baguette with a total weight of about 3 carats, and a Cartier ring with an octagonal fancy yellow diamond weighing 3.09 carats with two lateral triangular diamonds weighing about 1 carat, accompanied by its original case.
Collectible watches
The auction, in addition to jewelry, also offers over 50 watches, including a Rolex Daytona Patrizzi ref 16520 caliber 4030, with steel case and bracelet oyster, desired by collectors for the unique color variation of the three counters placed on the dial, due to the natural oxidation of silver, which make it particularly sought after. In addition to a series of sought-after Rolexes, for sale an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph ref. 25770ST steel and a rare Santos Dumont Louis Cartier Ultra-Thin. Finally, Faraone Casa d’Aste offers a collection of 22 pairs of twins and five diamonds on a map weighing approximately 1.40 carats of type HVVS1. Federico Graglia

Forever Unique in 4 colors

//

The Forever Unique Sinuo Color collection with the classic precious stones: sapphires, emeralds, rubies and diamonds. With a special certification ♦ ︎
White, blue, red and green: these are the colors of a hypothetical jewelery flag. They are the shades, that is, of the main stones: sapphires, emeralds, rubies and diamonds. This new palette is based on the new Forever Unique Sinuo Color collection, the result of the work of the jewelry designer Paola Casorati. Made in Italy, the jewels of this line are multiplied in 11 sets, four with sapphires, three with emeralds and four with rubies, all on white gold. On the other hand, the common, pure, natural and ethical diamonds are certified by IIDGR, the International Institute of Diamond Grading & Research (a company of the Beers group). The warranty on the stones used is then engraved on the diamond belt with a special laser writing.
In addition to the usual 4 C, Carat (caratura), Color (color), Clarity (purity) and Cut (cut), IIDGR is added the certification of a fifth feature: the Confidence C (trust), guarantee of ethics and transparency ‘use of stones that meet the requirements of the Kimberley Process of the World Diamond Council approved by the United Nations, ie the so-called ethical diamonds. And, of course, natural and not synthetic. Lavinia Andorno

Picchiotti, new luxury Xpandable

//

New expansion of Picchiotti’s Xpandable collection: flexible rings with exceptional stones surrounded by diamonds ♦ ︎
Xpandable is one of Picchiotti’s most popular collections. The high-end jewelry Maison in Valenza has in fact thought of combining the concept of luxury with that of comfort: the rings or bracelets of this collection boast not only a great wealth of raw material, that is, the precious stones used, but also the pleasantness of a flexible system that adapts to the finger or the wrist thanks to an invisible elastic system (thanks to a patent). No fear, therefore, that the precious jewel is no longer wearable because of a severe weight loss diet or (more often) of a few pounds that is added over time.
Picchiotti at Baselworld 2018 presented a series of new pieces of great appeal of the series. But now he anticipates another, destined to shine at the next Couture in Las Vegas. It is a ring with seven extraordinary octagonal emeralds in a three-dimensional setting of baguettes and round diamonds. Certainly one of the leading pieces of the Piedmontese company. But also the other rings are not less preciouses. The jewels are conceived with central stones of particular value. Among all, to report a ring with a rare oval sapphire of purple color, not heated, which is also the Pantone Color for 2018. The central stones are then matched to the circle of the ring, covered with diamonds. «For the new generation of Xpandable rings we have created a series with a center of exceptional precious stones, making each ring an exclusive unique piece», is the comment by Giuseppe Picchiotti, founder of the Maison. Bonhams celebrates David Webb

/

Rubies, sapphires, diamonds and 16 pieces by David Webb at Bonhams auction in New York ♦ ︎
Even if you do not have the money to buy the magnificent jewels of the magnificent auctions held in the wealth capitals, first of all Geneva, London, Hong Kong and New York, browsing the catalogs can be enjoyable. You can find exceptional jewels discovered, true masterpieces not only for their estimated value, but also for their artistic quality.
Also the auction scheduled by Bonhams in New York for April 17, 2018 (133 lots) does not miss interesting pieces in the catalog. A solitaire ring with premium quality, brilliant cut, 10,01 carats is the most valuable piece, with an estimated 500,000-700,000 dollars. But, if you are not a diamond enthusiast or an investor who wants to close the ring in a safe, it is not the most pleasant piece to watch. Better, for example, the Art Déco bracelet with rubies and diamonds by Cartier, dated around 1935. It has contrasting rubies with white diamonds, in seven rows, interspersed with baguette-cut diamond bars, with other old-cut diamonds. Rubies are of Burmese origin and not heated. With rubies (50) is also composed of a necklace of Bulgari, with oval-shaped graduated stones, the largest weighing about 2.15 carats, alternating with round brilliant-cut round diamonds. Rubies are of Burmese origin (Myanmar). In the catalog there is also a ring of rubies and diamonds by Mermod & Jaccard.
Rubies are the fashion stone at the moment, but sapphires never set. At the auction of Bonhams, for example, a ring with 9.85 carats of Kashmir sapphire and diamonds is estimated at 80.000-120.000 dollars, while a pendant necklace with Sri Lanka sapphire of 40.07 carats and diamonds rises to 280.000- 320.000 .
The David Webb jewelery
One of the reasons of interest of the auction are also the 16 pieces by David Webb. The American designer was famous for his large and daring jewels, in which he also used materials such as exotic shells, carved rock crystal, enamel and coral. The collection that Bonhams will offer includes a bracelet with fox-head diamonds, diamonds, emeralds, rubies and enamels: a perfect example of Webb’s love for jewelry in the shape of animals, made with enamels, diamonds, emeralds and rubies.
