Victoire de Castellane

Dior in the gardens of its history

Fashion, jewellery, style: three aspects of the same garden says Dior. The Parisian Maison, an atelier of great clothes, is also a jewelery workshop. Indeed, of high jewelry, like the one presented by the creative director Victoire de Castellane and entitled Les Jardins de la Couture. High jewelery that takes as a reference an interweaving of nature and the art of clothing. It is no coincidence that the jewels were presented worn by models obviously wearing clothes from the Maison. The line includes 170 pieces of fine jewelry, including three watches with a secret, i.e. bracelets that incorporate a hidden timepiece that can be revealed at will.

The jewels are offered in four different strands: Galons Fleuris, Très Cher Dior, Buissons Couture and Mini Milly. The flowers that inspire a good number of jewels in the collection are a tribute to the founder of the Maison, Christian Dior, who loved flowers, as well as a classic jewelery format. The jewel-shaped flowers also do not wither. Gems and nature, goldsmith’s art and luxury, but also lightness: the ingredients for the success of Les Jardins de la Couture are all there.

Dearest Dior, fine jewelry 77 different ways

Dior, a name that is synonymous with haute couture. And during the Paris week dedicated to high fashion, the Maison presented its new collection, curated as always by the artistic director for jewelry, Victoire de Castellane. The collection is called this time Dearest Dior, has 77 unique pieces, and follows the idea of enhancing his renowned virtuosity, as in the previous Dear Dior and Dior Dior Dior presented on two occasions in the past ten years. In short, Dearest Dior wants to communicate that the flagship brand of the Lvmh group reaches the top of high jewelry.

However, as on other occasions, there is a link with the original activity of Dior, clothing. The jewels, in fact, are made with a thought to the lace technique, which gives lightness, but also extreme industriousness in the composition, with a thought to the creations of the founder, Christian Dior. Gold is often woven into a kind of filigree, but gems are also set in a puzzle that makes up the surfaces, or figures such as flowers. The jewels are also embellished with gems such as diamonds, rubies, tourmalines, sapphires of different colors, pearls, which often appear to be suspended without the setting being seen.

Dior high jewelry with Print

//

Victoire de Castellane has the merit of surprising without limitations to the aesthetics of her high jewelry. As is now tradition, Dior presented its couture collections in Paris with a view of the summer. The high jewelery collection this year is called Print. Like the verb to print in English. The creative director’s idea seems to have been to draw prints on jewels, whatever that means. But, if desired, Print is also an abbreviation of printemps, spring, and such a collection is always a new beginning. In any case, the Print collection includes 137 unique pieces.

Rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings do not disappoint expectations: they are a synthesis of classic icons, such as the diamond bow from which a Paraiba tourmaline hangs. Or gems that make up geometries, rigorous or soft as in the brooch that forms a wave designed by emeralds, diamonds and sapphires. Gems, however, are never used as a symbol of wealth, but fit into the homogeneous style that gives life to the collection. To see and wear, rather than to print.

The stripes of Dior high jewelry

/

A galon, in French, indicates a strip of interwoven fabric used as an ornament for clothes or furnishings. For example, stripes that are a hallmark of the ranks worn on the military uniform. From this sign the imagination of the creative director of Dior Joaillerie, Victoire de Castellane, has created the new high jewelery collection. The jewelry line is Galons Dior. Instead of simple fabric decorations or trimmings, however, there are diamonds and precious stones.

The stripes translated into jewels are reminiscent of fabric, but only ideally. The collection includes 81 individual pieces, including necklaces, brooches, bracelets, rings and earrings. Diamonds, baguette to form the V of the stripes, or with other cuts, are accompanied by sapphires, rubies or emeralds, all in geometric shapes. In addition, for the first time in a haute joaillerie collection, Dior is presenting brooches and cufflinks for men. After all, the stripes on military uniforms until a few years ago were intended exclusively for men.

Cara Delevingne wears Rose des Vents by Dior

The wind rose blows on billboards with British model and actress Cara Delevingne. More than a meteorological indication, however, it is the Rose des Vents collection by Dior, of which Cara Delevingne is the official face. As a brand ambassador, Delevingne wears new pieces from the Rose des Vents collection, a fine jewelry collection designed by the artistic director for jewelry at the Maison Victoire de Castellane. The collection presented in 2015 and renewed several times, now also includes a series of necklaces in yellow gold with malachite or mother of pearl, or in pink gold with opal or onyx, as well as a white gold medallion encrusted with diamonds.

She is Australian the new face of Dior Joaillerie. The brand of the creative director Victoire de Castellane, in fact, has chosen Elizabeth Debicki as brand ambassador. The actress will be the protagonist of a new advertising campaign dedicated to the brand’s collections, on the classic theme of the rose, which recurs in the collections of the French Maison (see also: Roses bloom with Dior).

The Australian actress is also known for playing the role of Princess Diana in seasons five and six of The Crown. In any case, Dior also makes use of the face of Cara Delevingne, who wore the Rose des Vents, Gem Dior and La D de Dior collections. Debicki, on the other hand, wears jewels from the La Rose Dior collection, with images taken by David Sims and published in only a few select fashion magazines. Elizabeth Debicki, a Polish father and Australian mother, has starred in films such as Widows, Vita & Virginia and Tenet, as well as the television series The Night Manager and The Kettering Incident.

Roses bloom with Dior

///

The roses in the gardens bloom in spring. And also those of high jewelery. The roses, in this case, are those of Dior and its artistic director Victoire de Castellane, who created RoseDior, a new collection of 54 pieces of high jewelery that arrives just ten years after the Bal des Roses collection. The recurring predilection for the most romantic flower is due to Christian Dior’s passion for the roses in his childhood garden in Normandy. On the other hand, the designer’s native residence has already inspired other collections of the Maison. Should we explain that jewels reproduce, with creative license, the shape of roses? This is obvious.

But, of course, the style, the craftsmanship and the wealth of details make the difference. In addition to the jewels, there is also a bracelet-watch with a secret dial, which is discovered by rotating a surface of small diamonds. There is no shortage of transformable jewels, such as the rose gold necklace with a diamond rose that can be separated and worn as a brooch, or a necklace with a ruby flower that turns into a bracelet. It goes without saying that the theme of roses has been interpreted with great use of precious stones: from diamonds to Paraiba tourmalines, from sapphires to emeralds.

The new Gem Dior 2021

//

x

The Gem Dior 2021 collection by Victoire de Castellane amazes those who expected from the artistic director of the Maison a jewelry line that is cousin to last year’s. But no, the designer has changed her feeling. And the surprise remained intact, because Victoire de Castellane’s inventiveness is always cheerful, despite the difficult times that the world has gone through in the last 12 months.

The jewels are inspired by the colorful fabric samples of Couture that the founder, Christian Dior, composed with elements asymmetrical and angular sections. The inspiration behind the collection, explained the creative director of Dior jewelry, comes from the way in which the founder of the Maison pinned fabric samples from his high fashion collections on pieces of paper, as well as from the natural and organic shape of stones, precious and raw minerals. The jewels are made in the three classic colors of gold, yellow, white and pink, with the addition of diamonds. But there is also a version that adds a touch of color, with the use of stone inserts such as malachite, lapis lazuli, carnelian, brown tiger’s eye, turquoise or chrysoprase. In addition to the jewels, there are also precious bracelets-watches, always in the same style as the collection.

A book for Victoire de Castellane’s 20 years in Dior

/

There are people who mark the history of jewelry. One of these is Victoire de Castellane, creative director of Dior. Now a great book published by Rizzoli Usa (Dior Joaillerie: The A to Z of Victoire de Castellane, 349 pages, written together with Olivier Gabet, director of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris), retraces the steps of this champion of high jewelery , for 20 years at the top of the Parisian Maison.

Victoire de Castellane
Victoire de Castellane

The book is not structured in chapters, but follows an alphabetical order, like a real dictionary, in 158 entries. And, of course, the volume is illustrated with large photographs from her famous collections, such as Cher Dior, Secret Garden Versailles, Rose des Vents, to name a few. But the dictionary entries also include distinctive features of Victoire de Castellane’s compositional style, such as asymmetry, or the use of lacquer, which Dior’s creative director considers as the fourth color of gold. To finish with an unexpected dictionary entry: zigzag. It is the path of creative freedom that has guided, and will guide, Victoire’s work.

Gem Dior, the new high jewelery collection

//

The Dior palette is filled with colors with its new high jewelery collection which is simply called Gem Dior. It is a particularly important collection, as always sprung from the mind of the creative director of Dior jewelry, Victoire de Castellane, because it celebrates the French Maison’s 20 years of haute joaillerie.

As the name indicates, the collection is based on the choice of large gems, which make up unique pieces of sure impact: bright tourmalines, contour diamonds, bright opals, deep emeralds, multicolored sapphires, next to a few touches of lacquer. But not only. Two other aspects emerge. The first concerns a style that owes a lot to art deco, with immediately recognizable geometries. The second aspect is, instead, the reference to the Belle Epoque with the choice of Toi & Moi rings, with two poles that use reverse-type stones. In all there are 39 pieces, including bracelets, rings, earrings and necklaces, all of exceptional richness, as is the Dior tradition, presented in Paris during the haute couture week.

The new high jewelry by Dior

Gem Dior, a high jewelry collection for 20 years as creative director of Victoire de Castellane ♦ ︎

In the world of luxury there are examples of creatives who remain at the helm of a Maison for a long time. They are few, though. Victoire de Castellane is part of this restricted Olympus. The creative director of Dior Fine Jewelry has been on the bridge for 20 years: a birthday just to be celebrated with a new high jewelry collection. The collection is called Gem Dior, and combine on the similarity sound betwen Gem and J’aime (I love, in French): it is composed of 99 pieces. Victoire de Castellane has accomplished a real miracle in two decades: in practice she has created a high jewelery brand, which joins the traditional one, which is recognized worldwide for creativity and quality.

Dior, anello multigemma

The J’aime Gem Dior collection is no exception and, above all, it is perfectly consistent with the style that Victoire de Castellane has given to Dior in these 20 years. But, she underlines with a pinch of modesty The creative director of Dior Fine Jewelry, after all, is the style inherited from Christian Dior, with his love for colors, for flowers, for decorations. Rings, earrings, necklaces, watches, necklaces are also composed this time of a set of stones with a kaleidoscope of gem colors: rubies, pink sapphires, diamonds, emeralds, blue and green tourmaline, spinels, tsavorite, tanzanite, rubellite, purple, spessartite garnets. The result is similar to certain abstract paintings of the thirties and forties, in which the geometric shapes combine with surprising results. Lavinia Andorno

Dior, high-jewelry three time

A new collection of high jewelry by the Maison: lace, gold and stones with Dior Dior Dior ♦ ︎

After the gardens of Versailles and the baroque decorations of the great residence of the French kings, here is another noble inspiration from Victoire de Castellane, who leads Dior’s fine jewelry with great expertise. The new collection, in fact, is inspired by the art of lace. After all, it was a type of fabric widely used by those who lived in the court of Versailles. The high jewelry collection includes 65 pieces. And, to testify that the maximum of the novelty is what has already happened, Victoire de Castellane has used Christian Dior’s archival images, choosing between embroidery and arabesques to make necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings rich in emeralds, blue sapphires and rose, rubies, tanzanites, diamonds, etc.
Presented in the Paris haute couture week, the collection had an unusual stage: the Museum of Modern Art, where it was visible for three days by the public, together with a exhibition of Dior’s jewelery production, which celebrated its 20th anniversary: in fact, it was created in 1998. In short, from the aristocratic past to the democratic present.
The decision to draw inspiration from embroideries and lace, however, is also linked to the other soul of Dior, that of fashion. In fact, the effect of the lace recreated with gold threads is present throughout the collection and recalls Christian Dior’s atelier. And the collection underlines this “diorism”: it is not by chance that it has been entitled Dior, Dior, Dior. In short, Dior three times.
Large cocktail rings with colored stones of appropriate size, bracelets with shimmering stones, bracelets where flowers appear among the embroideries and integrate with the light gold embroidery. Jewels worthy of the Dior tradition and the most noble haute couture. Matilde de Bounville

Dior, the secrets of Versailles

At the court of Versailles with the high jewelery by Dior, to search among its secrets ♦ ︎
Versailles is not just a destination for tourists, but a part of French culture and History, written in capital letters. And it is also culture, art, fantasy. Finally, it is also one of the topical places around which the creative fantasy of Victoire de Castellane is thickened, the refined mind from which the Dior high jewelery collections spring. Just like the collection called Dior à Versailles, pièces sècretes. And so, after the collections inspired by the royal residence of the past few years, here is the new high jewelry dedicated by the building or, better, its most secret corners.
Read also: Dior to the gardens of Versailles
Read also: Dior celebrates Versailles
The new Dior collection still runs through the corridors, rooms and halls of Versailles to create swiveling gemstones, concealed drawers, rings that look like miniature boxes. And then many symbols, more or less obvious, that appear (sometimes by surprise) on the jewels. In short, the third visit to Versailles of Victoire de Castellane is even richer in creative ideas. Among other things, it should be noted a novelty: the appearance of the skull motif, perhaps as a sign of the time that inexorably passes also for the vanitas, it has passed also for the court of the Sun King. Even the choice of stones recalls the era of the baroque, the stuccoes, the wigs, with spinels of an almost iridescent color, a rare lilac tanzanite, powder pink sapphires. To wear while listening to Rameau. Giulia Netrese

Dior to Versailles Gardens

High Jewelery: Versailles gardens interpreted by Dior. Images ♦ ︎
Assuming not to put yourself in the shoes of Maria Antonietta (finished on the guillotine) it is legitimate to put yourself in the shoes of a queen if you can wear the new pieces of high jewelery signed by Dior. The Versailles Palace was the center of last year’s collection designed by Maison’s artistic director, Victoire de Castellane. Having seen success, the designer remains in the neighborhood with the Dior à Versailles collection, Côté Jardins. In short, the great garden of the palace, itself a masterpiece, is transfigured into rings, necklaces, earrings, and even jewelry-watches.
As you can expect from a garden and as you can expect from Victoire de Castellane, the collection is a triumph of colors, stones, shapes that tend to remember the rococo but without the frills of the French eighteenth-century baroque. But the richness of compositions, which often recall the bouquets of flowers, is astonishing. An example: the Bosquet de la Salle de Bal Rubis bracelet is made of diamonds, rock crystal, emeralds, rubies, pink sapphires, mandarin garnets, blue sapphires, garnets, tsavorites, yellow diamonds, purple and yellow sapphires, spessartites, and lacquer.
The result would been loved by André Le Nôtre, landscape architect who in the 18th century conceived the garden of Versailles, one of the most admired in the world.

Dior, where the Rose des Vents blows

Dior’s Rose des Vents blows again and welcomes new colors and pieces ♦
The Rose des Vents continues to blow in one direction: the addition of new pieces to the collection that Dior’s artistic director, Victoire de Castellane, launched in 2015. The jewelery line is inspired, as is well known, to the founder’s story The Maison, Christian Dior, and his country house in Granville, France. The idea of offering bracelets, necklaces and rings with the shape of the rim with the cardinal points actually refers to the superstition that the designer did not conceal. Dior was very superstitious and always he held with him a star found in front of the British Embassy in Paris as an amulet. She also consulted periodically seers and fortune-tellers.
But this probably does not matter to anyone who wants to wear the jewels of this collection, which, among other things, have a relatively affordable price (from 1300 to 6500 euros). The symbol of the rose of the winds has thus declined in gold, diamonds, and now also in malachite and opal. Bracelets, rings and sautoir, in short, have new wind puff. And for the fall season is expected a new substantial stream of new pieces. Alessia Mongrando

Dior crowns the opals

The sumptuous opals in the new high jewelery collection by Dior: iridescent imagination and richness of colors.
Opal is back in a big way some years ago. But there are those who had never given up the charm of this stone with mysterious iridescent reflections. Dior is among those who have used the opal since long time, was 2003, and now the Maison reaffirms its leadership opalescent with a collection of high jewelry presented on the sidelines of the haute couture in Paris. The mind creative brand for jewelery, Victoire de Castellane, has put the cards on the table with a title explicitly for the collection: Dior et d’Opales. As if to say that yes, the jewels are extraordinary, but their charm is due above all of these stones by color elusive. Of course it is not true: the opals are fascinating, but without a jewelery design equally outstanding would not have that effect wow that causes the view of the Dior collection. In addition, next to the opals there are diamonds and precious stones such as emeralds, rubies, amethysts, pink sapphires, yellow or purple, spessartite garnet, tsavorite, Demantoid, Paraiba tourmalines. The stones are joined by un’architetture gold to offer rich solutions eyes. In all, 26 jewels: rings, bracelets, earrings and necklaces. But not only: there are also sumptuous bracelets concealing a watch inside them. Simply turn the opal in the center of the bracelet and appears the dial of the timepiece. Margherita Donato

Auction throughout Chanel

In Paris a sale of 440 jewels, all signed Chanel.
If you are Chanel fans get ready: the French house auction Druot organize for October 10 the sale of necklaces, brooches, earrings, with fake pearls or glass paste that imitates rubies or emeralds, all with the famous double C that distinguishes the brand. The pieces on sale are 440, from 1950 until 2014. Three-quarters of these jewels were part of a private collection. After the death of the owner, his heirs decided to sell: it is the fate of the collections. Prices range on average between 20 to 25,000 euro. This is the first auction exclusively dedicated to Chanel jewelry. In addition to jewelry, the sale also includes watches with the Parisian Maison logo. Some jewels are designed by Victoire de Castellane, designer, alongside Karl Lagerfeld, oversaw the collection of jewels of the house between 1984 and 1998, before joining Dior. Federico Graglia

The Dior silk under the lens

Ogni tanto è bene fermarsi a osservare. Margherita Donato

Dior celebrates Versailles

Dior à Versailles: the latest high jewelry collection at the French maison is inspired by the flamboyant palace, symbol of the nation’s grandeur. Yet that of Victoire de Castellane, is not a simple review of the baroque decorations, but an exercise in imagination, «I imagined Versailles by night, where the stones glistened in the candlelight». For example, the ones of the three thousand lights in large chandeliers which at the time were reflected in the amazing Hall of Mirrors. A blazing that is expressed in diamond drops from the curved lines and flat surfaces in Galerie des Glaces ring and earrings, while the astonishing necklace appear composed randomly.

In all cases the effect is extremely light due to 18th-century jewelry making techniques, diamonds setting in blackened silver, white and pink gold and platinum, and very traditional cuts stones but asymmetrically clustered. So large sapphires, emeralds and rubies are set on precious metal bands and recall the wooden moldings of the Chambre du Roi (the bedroom of the King), the curtains of the apartments of the royal ladies, or the sun emblem of Apollo Salon where was the throne. And again, the imposing geometry of the black and white marble courtyard, softer and sinuous in the Cour de Marbre cuff and necklace with round diamonds set in silver blackened intersecting with a row of rectangular diamonds. In short, a blast from the past that speaks to present.
