The Gem Dior 2021 collection by Victoire de Castellane amazes those who expected from the artistic director of the Maison a jewelry line that is cousin to last year’s. But no, the designer has changed her feeling. And the surprise remained intact, because Victoire de Castellane’s inventiveness is always cheerful, despite the difficult times that the world has gone through in the last 12 months.

The jewels are inspired by the colorful fabric samples of Couture that the founder, Christian Dior, composed with elements asymmetrical and angular sections. The inspiration behind the collection, explained the creative director of Dior jewelry, comes from the way in which the founder of the Maison pinned fabric samples from his high fashion collections on pieces of paper, as well as from the natural and organic shape of stones, precious and raw minerals. The jewels are made in the three classic colors of gold, yellow, white and pink, with the addition of diamonds. A book for Victoire de Castellane’s 20 years in Dior

There are people who mark the history of jewelry. One of these is Victoire de Castellane, creative director of Dior. Now a great book published by Rizzoli Usa (Dior Joaillerie: The A to Z of Victoire de Castellane, 349 pages, written together with Olivier Gabet, director of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris), retraces the steps of this champion of high jewelery , for 20 years at the top of the Parisian Maison.

The book is not structured in chapters, but follows an alphabetical order, like a real dictionary, in 158 entries. And, of course, the volume is illustrated with large photographs from her famous collections, such as Cher Dior, Secret Garden Versailles, Rose des Vents, to name a few. But the dictionary entries also include distinctive features of Victoire de Castellane’s compositional style, such as asymmetry, or the use of lacquer, which Dior’s creative director considers as the fourth color of gold. To finish with an unexpected dictionary entry: zigzag. It is the path of creative freedom that has guided, and will guide, Victoire’s work.

The J’aime Gem Dior collection is no exception and, above all, it is perfectly consistent with the style that Victoire de Castellane has given to Dior in these 20 years. But, she underlines with a pinch of modesty The creative director of Dior Fine Jewelry, after all, is the style inherited from Christian Dior, with his love for colors, for flowers, for decorations. In Paris a sale of 440 jewels, all signed Chanel.
If you are Chanel fans get ready: the French house auction Druot organize for October 10 the sale of necklaces, brooches, earrings, with fake pearls or glass paste that imitates rubies or emeralds, all with the famous double C that distinguishes the brand. The pieces on sale are 440, from 1950 until 2014. Three-quarters of these jewels were part of a private collection. After the death of the owner, his heirs decided to sell: it is the fate of the collections. Prices range on average between 20 to 25,000 euro. This is the first auction exclusively dedicated to Chanel jewelry. In addition to jewelry, the sale also includes watches with the Parisian Maison logo. Ogni tanto è bene fermarsi a osservare. Certo, guardare tante immagini di una collezione è divertente. Però ci sono casi come questo bracciale di Dior che vale la pena di osservare da vicino se siete davvero appassionati di gioielli. È frutto della fantasia del direttore creativo del settore gioielli della Maison, Victoire de Castellane. Con questo bracciale in oro ha voluto imitare il movimento avvolgente, morbido e arricciato della seta. Un compito non semplice. Eppure il risultato è difficilmente riproducibile: il bracciale sembra davvero composto da morbido tessuto su cui sono appoggiati diamanti bianchi e colorati. Ma la collezione (ne abbiamo già parlato qui), che si rinnova di continuo e ha le radici nel lontano 1940, comprende pezzi con anche smeraldi, zaffiri, rubini. Ogni gioiello è un’impresa notevole di ingegneria, come si vede nel filmato. Quando si valuta il prezzo di un pezzo di alta gioielleria, spesso non si considera il tempo e i materiali impiegati. Per realizzare questo bracciale, per esempio, ci sono volute 2000 ore di lavorazione, 1.692 diamanti bianchi e colorati, un diamante giallo di 6.04 carati. Margherita Donato
