From trendy designers to vintage jewelry from great Maison. Auverture, the website founded by one of the most refined creative women in high jewelery, Bibi Van Der Velden, surprisingly opened the doors to a new genre of proposals. The marketplace, in fact, has inaugurated a section dedicated to vintage jewelry, with pieces also signed by brands such as Bulgari, Cartier, Tiffany or Val Cleef & Arpels. They are jewels made in the last century and put back into circulation to be worn again. It is the same kind of jewelry found on sites like 1stdibs, but also, with due proportions, at Sotheby’s or Christie’s. And it is a sign that high quality jewels maintain their value over time, because they continue to have a market.

That Auverture proposing these jewels, however, surprised those who considered Bibi Van Der Velden’s site as a space dedicated exclusively to the most innovative contemporary designers, such as Fernando Jorge, Ana Khouri, Bia Tambelli, Venyx, Alice Cicolini, Nikos Koulis , just to name a few. With the support of vintage jewelry, however, Auverture is now able to meet the requests of collectors and design enthusiasts of the past.

Saving nature means saving the Earth. The planet needs attention, solidarity, respect. And perhaps even the jewels can help raise awareness of those who still do not pay too much attention to the fate of the environment. These are the assumptions that prompted Venyx, the Eugenie Niarchos brand, to conceive its Mother Earth collection. That leaves no doubt: the jewels, which are mainly necklaces, depict the Earth, like small globes, made of 18-karat yellow and white gold, diamonds and azurmalachite, a natural stone that combines azurite and malachite. Blue and green, the colors of our planet. Another special piece, on the other hand, uses an opal sphere to represent the Earth, with a vaguely lunar effect.

Eugenie Niarchos, who is a trendsetter as well as a designer, worked in the fashion industry before diving into the world of jewelry. She studied at the Gemological Institute of America and worked in the Christie’s Fine Jewelry department. By the way, the name Venyx is a mix of the words Venus and onyx, onyx.

She come from a dynasty of shipowners, and Eugenie Niarchos obviously loves the sea. As well as the jewels, that is. In mid-July, she opened a boutique of her Maison, Venyx, a name that is a fusion between the words Venus and onyx, in Mykonos (Cyclades Island, Greece), It was also the occasion to present his latest collection, entitled Elementa.
The name has a simple explanation: the designer was inspired by the four elements that in ancient times were thought to be the basis of life: earth, wind, fire and water. Eugenie used a stone to represent each element. In the first part of the Elementa collection, earrings and pendants with the shape of the sun are made of opal and other precious stones. A ring, in particular, Aruna, which inside the central stone is chiseled with a sun. The collection continues with the moon. In short, it is not necessary to follow a logical thread in all of this, but to observe the jewels and judge their shape, which certainly has its character, much appreciated. Eugenie Niarchos deserts the earth and let Reptilia (her collection dedicated to reptiles), to dive into the sea with the third jewelery collection of the brand Venyx, named Oseanyx. A fantastic and whimsical underwater world, this is the key style of the Greek designer, inhabited by mysterious and hybrid creatures: there is an imaginary tiger-ray fish and the depth of the abysses is captured in detail the tail of the feline that looks like a Tribal accessory, the paw of the bear hunting fishes, shells symbol of Venus, which obviously have nothing of Botticelli’s classicism, but instead suggest tropical seas with multicolored stones. And, again, a golden parrot fish with a star between the fins. Because cosmos is one of the favorite themes of Niarchos, here too in this collection proposes star pendants earrings with Akoya pearls, and adds Lunoor, a half-moon with a human face as in fairy tales, originally designed for the wedding of her best friend Noor Fares, a jewelry designer too.
