It’s name is Novecentonovantanove: the number is the brand of a Florence company specialized in tubogas bracelets and necklaces (but not only).

In 1999, in fact, a new jewelery brand was born in Florence: after long and heated debate the agreement was found on a name that recalls the year of birth, Novecentonovantanove (999). A number that is easy to remember, just as it is simple remember the style chosen for the products of the company that now belongs to Enzo Lazzerini: the classic tubogas. That is, those gold jewels made up of pairs of interlocking strips, with a shape reminiscent of gas hoses.

The peculiarity of this process consists in the fact that necklaces or bracelets do not require welding. It was a popular type of jewel during the late 1930s and 1940s. The idea also reflects the need to make up for the scarcity of gold during the Second World War. The 999 tubogas bracelets or necklaces do not differ from the classic model: made of gold, often combined on the same piece in the different shades of yellow, white and pink. She was the daughter of Icarius and Policaste, wife of Ulysses, queen of Ithaca, mother of Telemachus, Poliporte and Arcesilao. Penelope, moreover, was descended on her father’s side from the great hero Perseus (Icarius was her nephew) and was Elena’s cousin. Anyone who has read the Odyssey has been fascinated by the figure of Penelope. But Homer probably never imagined that Ulysses’ faithful wife would turn into tubogas bijoux. No magic of the Olympian gods: the Penelope line is an idea of Opsobjects, a made in Italy bijoux brand.

The tubogas jersey is a traditional processing system, which makes the jewel flexible and soft. The flexible metal tube for gas, the tubogas, was invented in 1881 and then used by jewelers starting in the 1940s. Today, after a long time, the patent has expired and its use is free. In the case of the Penelope collection, the flexible bracelet has an adjustable length from 17 to 20 centimeters (price 39 euros) while the choker has an adjustable length from 35 to 40 centimeters (59 euros).

Masi Gioielli, a company founded in 1988 in Valenza, continues its world tour astride its collections: 2022, for example, began with VicenzaOro and continued with Il Jck in Las Vegas. The jewels have an invisible technology inside that makes them elastic: bracelets, for example, can be worn without the need for a closure, because they adapt to the size of the wrist.

A tradition that comes straight from the Renaissance artisans. And, in addition, the desire for innovation typical of young people. In 1988 Simone Innocenti entered the artisan goldsmith workshop of his father, Sergio Innocenti, with the desire to update the technology, but without losing the creative capacity of the ancient goldsmith shops, where the activity is marked by the work of a master craftsman. That is, the two sides of the same coin or, if you prefer, of the same ring.

The activity of the founder of the workshop, now evolved into a small company, began in the post-war period in the ancient district of San Frediano. Sergio Innocenti was very young when he took his first steps in an old artisan workshop, where he learned the secrets of gold and precious stones. And, in particular, the Florentine style, with the techniques of repoussage, fretwork and inlay. But also in the processing of glazes. Become skilled and with experienced, Innocenti at the beginning of the seventies he set up his own business. And he succeeded in highlighting himself: for Settepassi Faraone he created five unique gold pieces, designed by great Italian designers, including the Great Pyramid in gold, silver and plexiglass, exhibited in Palazzo Strozzi in 1980 for the exhibition Design with gold. A bracelet designed specifically to be matched with a watch: from this idea was born Wangle from Tirisi ♦ ︎

Bracelet and watch on the same wrist. The combination does not always work. This is why the Dutch brand Tirisi Jewelry has designed an ad hoc wedding between watch and bracelet. It’s called The Wangle, a synthesis between the words Watch and Bangle. The idea comes from the thoughts of the Tirisi design director, Natascha Rotstein-Zuchouwski, looking for the right bracelet to wear next to the watch. From this need was born Wangle, which can be worn as a single bracelet or stacked together with other bracelets.

The bracelet which is friend of watch is made of 18 carat yellow, white and pink gold tubogas.

Three different versions are available, all set with diamonds. All Wangles are priced at 1,695 euros and can be completed with rings and necklaces, also available in yellow, white and pink gold. Launched in 2010, Tirisi seeks to overcome the conventional ideas prevalent in the jewelery sector. Instead of presenting a new collection once a year, Tirisi launches new products at least three times a year. And Wangles is one of these innovations. Giulia Netrese

Minimal Pop is a Salvini collection that aims at a certain lightness. The Damiani group brand is, in fact, an institution with regard to jewelry for special events (engagement, marriage) or ceremonies, anniversaries. But of course there is also the rest of life. And that’s why Minimal Pop is proposed as a collection to wear only for the pleasure of having a jewel, even if nothing forbids to dedicate the jewel to one of the occasions we mentioned.
The jewelry line includes rings, bracelets and pendants, to which are added the hoop earrings in white gold, rose gold and yellow gold. The bracelets can be combined with pendants with the shape of hearts and butterflies, shamrocks and crosses, embellished with a brillant.
There is also a particular aspect: as regards about tubogas technique, it is a type of work to make the metal flexible and is, it seems, a legacy of ancient Rome.
