Jewelers in support of Ukraine. In March, some jewelers launched a fundraiser for children who were victims of war. So far they have raised around £ 25,000 for Hope and Homes for Children, an NGO currently working in Ukraine, in combination with gems extracted from a Brazilian Cruzeiro mine. The support action continues and other designs have been added in recent months. Brazilian-born designer Ana Khouri, for example, has just donated a pair of earrings in yellow beryl and blue indicolite tourmaline, the colors of the Ukrainian flag.

The idea of the jewelry for Ukraine is by Annabel Davidson of Vanity Fair on Jewelery: when Russia started the war she was in Brazil visiting the Cruzeiro mine, which is located in the state of Minas Gerais, north of Sao Paulo . The mine produces tourmaline, quartz, morganite, aquamarine and garnet, as well as blue indicolite tourmaline and yellow heliodine, the colors of the Ukrainian flag. The CEO of the mine, Douglas Neves, immediately agreed to donate the gems for the project to support the Ukrainian people. They joined immediately: Carla Amorim, Ara Vartanian, Prasi and Kika Alvarenga from Brazil, Jessica McCormack in London, Ana Khouri in New York and Maggi Simpkins based in Los Angeles, together with Ruth Tomlinson and Sophie Breitmeyer. Other jewelers, such as Solange Azagury-Partridge, Anabela Chan and Robinson Pelham, have instead decided to support the Red Cross or organizations such as Care and Save the Children UK.

The support is also an opportunity for jewelry lovers, who are drawn by lot. Every three weeks a piece of jewelry is up for grabs on JustGiving.com between anyone who makes a donation of 10 euros or pounds. The money raised is passed on to Hope and Homes for Children, which supports volunteers in Ukraine.

Brilliant, whimsical, unpredictable: Solange Azagury-Partridge is one of the British designers who transform each new collection into an event. Her style of hers always surprises, even when she designs a ring for the movie Snow White and the Huntsman, worn by Charlize Theron, who played the part of the Evil Queen. The new Solange Azagury-Partridge collection is simply called Solid. The choice for the new jewelry line was to use almost exclusively yellow gold. Another idea of the collection is the play between the word solid and the Latin word sun, since the yellow gold recalls the influence of the star that illuminates the Earth. Finally, according to the designer, the collection is also a sign of awakening to life after two pandemic years that have forced people to stay at home for a long time. It’s been over 20 years since one of the most eclectic jewelery designers, Solange Azagury-Partridge presented her Kinetic collection. Yet the line of those playful jewels remains one of the most appreciated and requested. Obviously it has been renewed over time, but its fundamental aspect remains: jewels that move and allow you to play with them. It is not the only collection of kinetic jewels, of course, but it is undoubtedly one of the most original and the proof is that it is still offered by the British Maison.

But, although the initial idea may suggest that it is a collection not to be taken too seriously, in reality the jewels are made of the highest quality. Solange Azagury-Partridge is a London designer who has been following a different path for 25 years. Perhaps because she has in her background a story linked to the world of art and considers jewels as abstract sculptures, but also attracted by symbols and allusions, while she shuns the ostentation of luxury. Her new collection, which is called Sentimentals, is no exception to this rule.

In this case the feelings are associated with jewels inspired by objects or people (family, children, friends) that have sentimental value. The collection consists of 26 rings, five necklaces, three earrings, one bangle and a vermeil and lacquer box. Each piece has its place in Solange’s feelings. For example, the Miracle ring, or the Memento Mori pendant, the Love Heart ring, the Baby earrings. The jewels are made of gold, precious stones, but also enamels or lacquer, as is the style of Solange.

You probably will have tried to write with a pen that has not been used for some time. To do that, before you’ve tried to write with a scribble something on a piece of paper. A random sign, a pen stroke often with a tangled line, a doodles. What if that seemingly insignificant sign was transformed into a jewel? And, more, in a jewel of great design, with precious stones?

The result is the new Scribbles collection by Solange Azagury-Partridge.

The British designer describes herself as “iconoclastic, irreverent and phenomenal”. And, indeed, the idea of combining a seemingly aimless pen line with opals, emeralds, gold and diamonds is quite unusual. But not only: in addition to the composition of the jewelry, Solange is also good in the ability to use the materials in a creative way. A capacity that derives from her professional experiences. Before opening her shop in London in 1995 (but now she is also present in New York), Solange worked with the jeweler Nicky Butler and then with the decorative art dealer Gordon Watson.
Until, in 1987, she decided to design her own engagement ring, with a rough diamond. A very admired jewel, which pushed Solange into her creative adventure as a designer of fine jewelry. From 2001 to 2004 she was also artistic director of Boucheron and her jewels for the French Maison are part of the permanent jewelery collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. The Romans, in antiquity, loved to repeat the phrase «nomen omen». Words mean something like “the name is an omen” or “a name, a destiny”. You can start from here to understand the work of the London designer Solange Azagury-Partridge. Her name is quite unusual as her work in jewelry. If there is someone who has been able to innovate in recent years, well she is. Her latest collection is called Supernature and is inspired by the elements that, according to the ancients, composed nature: Fire, Air, Water, Earth, Ether. On these elements Solange has created jewels that are not only very rich and imaginative, but that also contain a hint of humor. As in the case of the Storm necklace, with white and blackened gold bangs that descend from a thundercloud, made with a curved labradorite. Also the Storm ring, on the other hand, has a large labradorite in the center, set between diamond lightning. Then there are the stalactites of diamonds and white gold, the flowers, the icicles… So many jewels, lots of ideas, lots of creativity. What do you ask for more by Solange? Margherita Donato

She now has boutiques in London, Paris and New York. An astonishing achievement for who is considered a jewelry rebel: Solange Azagury-Partridge is one of those designers who can not set. Indeed, it often scandalizes the world of the most traditional jewelery. Though she is self-taught. “Born in London, conceived in Casablanca,” she tells about herself, from Sephardic Jewish parents with Spanish and Berber roots. In the 1960s they emigrated from Morocco to London. Couturier Jaques Azagury is her cousin and in the nineties he also designed some dress for Princess Diana.
Solange’s first jewel has been her engagement ring, which she designed herself: a rough diamond on a gold band. It was the 1987. She then made her experience at Butler & Wilson, a London fashion house, and later at a retailer of old jewelry. But even though she was just born, the seventies have remained in her heart. The new collection by Solange Azagury-Partridge jewelry: stones with unusual cuts, and the usual unconventionality led by a striking design.
If Solange Azagury-Partridge did not exist we would have to invent her. Not only it is able to periodically give a shock to the world of jewelery with amazing collections, but to his activity as a designer in London alongside practical support against domestic violence. But, in fact, in its shops in London, New York and Paris, furnished in harmony with its colorful and imaginative style, it exudes an air of novelty that is renewed at each collection.
The last is called Poptails and includes six rings one more amazing than the other. Layers of metals and stones, with enamels and unusual combinations are built up (it’s the right word), small monuments that could be associated with something like a spaceship Aztec, or a platform for the extraction of oil. Large precious stones cut in an apparently bizarre, such as the hexagonal emerald on top of the Space Station ring, make an extra thrill.

She is a self-taught designer, yet Solange Azagury-Partridge has become one of the emerging names in the jewelry (https://gioiellis.com/la-fantasia-solare-di-solange). She fills the pages of newspapers and now is also courted by the big chains distribution. With a decision that has horrified many great Maison, her latest initiative is a collection of silver rings, Hotlips for Amazon. The new range is based on the design of the original ring, launched in 1995 and worn by stars such as Scarlett Johansson, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry. The Hotlips for Amazon are made of silver with a lacquered finish and cost 93 euro. A minimum amount compared to the price of its jewels.

Solange Azagury-Partridge began his career in London jeweler Butler & Wilson, and then by Gordon Watson, where he developed an interest in antique jewelry. Her first jewel designed in 1987, was her engagement ring: a rough diamond in a gold band. In 1990 he opened his own store in London. Then, she was recruited by Tom Ford, to work with Boucheron: three years as creative director. But she wanted to go his own way, with a design far away from the classical jewellery.
