Here are Christie’s auction stars

Rubini, a Fabergé tiara and a 118 carat fancy diamond: here are the stars of Christie’s Magnificent Jewels auction ♦ ︎

More and more: the Magnificent Jewels auction organized by Christie’s in Geneva totaled sales of 77.2 million dollars (68 million euros). Also because the super auction also included watches and collector wines, as well as thrilling jewels. The number of visitors to the Four Season, where the auction was scheduled, also gives an idea of the event: 3,000 went on a pilgrimage to see the 271 jewels, 249 watches, and wine bottles. Other statistical data: bidders from 51 countries on six continents, 87% of the lots found a buyer.

The king of the day was a ring with a Burmese ruby in the shape of a pillow, by Harry Winston. A jewel that has tripled its pre-sale estimate and has been sold for 7.2 million dollars (6.3 million euros), “maximum price achieved in all homes in Geneva this spring”. Does anyone think it is an allusion at Sotheby’s?

The Magnificent Jewels auction took place in a very dynamic room for six hours with strong bidding across the globe. Natural pearls and jewels with noble provenance such as the 75.61 carat emerald from Grand Duchess Vladimir of Russia found much acclaim and sold for far above their pre-sale estimates. Also, of note was the 118 cts fancy yellow diamond that was purchased by SIBA Corp. in honour of Sam Abram, a prominent figure in the Jewellery world, who very sadly passed away last week.

Natural pearls continue to deliver strong prices. A necklace with 110 natural pearls was sold for 5.7 million dollars, doubling the pre-sale estimate. The period jewels are also well received. The Fabergé tiara made in 1904 as a wedding gift by Frederick Francis IV, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (1882-1945) to his wife Princess Alexandra of Hanover and Cumberland (1882-1963), composed of nine graduated pear-shaped aquamarines it was sold for 1 million dollars against a pre-sale estimate of 340,000. And the necklace owned by the Duchess Vladimir of Russia with a pear-shaped Colombian emerald was allocated to 4.3 million dollars. Also noteworthy is the price of the ring with the Jonker V diamond at 3 million dollars, which however remained within the range of the estimate. Federico Graglia

Van Cleef & Arpels, high jewelery in red

//

Red colour celebrates the new high jewelery collection by Van Cleef & Arpels, Treasure of Rubies ♦ ︎

Van Cleef & Arpels in red. It is the color that distinguishes the Treasure of Rubies fine jewelry collection, a new large line of 60 jewels that follows that of Emeraude en Majest in 2016, and continues the research of Pierres de Caractère, that is of special gems. In all, red stones were used for 3,000 carats that come from Tanzania, Madagascar, Mozambique, Burma. Only in this way the Parisian Maison has managed to compose this collection that in many ways resembles the great art deco jewels of the thirties, such as the famous peony brooches, or the famous ballerinas by Van Cleef & Arpels.

As always, for the Treasure of Rubies collection the Maison used the serti mystérieux, the technique invented by Van Cleef that allows you to juxtapose the stones without seeing a metal frame.

Queen of the collection is perhaps Flaming Ruby, a necklace that uses a rare ruby of over 25 carats cut into a cushion, to highlight the quality of the stone. Among other things, ruby has been one of the favorite stones since the foundation of the jewelery brand, thanks to the many trips of the Arpels brothers in India and the Far East in search of precious red gems. The rubies of the Treasure of Rubies collection are used in the Van Cleef style, with flowers, ribbons and oriental motifs composed with the combination of diamonds, on pink or white gold. Rubies, diamonds and class: nothing can be more precious. Giulia Netrese

Harry Winston’s Candy

/

The most precious candies in the world: those of the Harry Winston Candy collection ♦ ︎

The candies are good, although sometimes they can have a certain price. For example, the candies signed by Harry Winston will appeal to all women, although not all women will be able to taste them or, better, wear them. The American Maison has presented an extraordinary series of cocktail rings entitled Winston Candy.

The collection offers central gems in bright colors, combined with diamonds and bright stones in matching colors.

In short, everything revolves around these sweets, which are gems selected for their beauty and quality, above average: precious mandarin garnets, rare tourmalines, up to pastel sapphires and lively spinels have been used as the colors of a palette to make the collection.
There is also a historical reference, since the collection was conceived starting from a series of archival drafts from the Fifties and Sixties, the period of maximum splendor of the Maison, with the combination and combinations of colored stones from various shapes with round brilliants. Although, in fact, Harry Winston was famous especially for diamonds, he was also known as “King of Diamonds”. But, probably, the candies were never him missing.

A collection with rubies from Greenland

A collection of jewels made up exclusively of rubies and sapphires extracted in Greenland: it’s proposed by Danish jeweler Hartmann ♦ ︎

You remained at the rubies of Burma, the most wanted. Alternatively, those from Sri Lanka or Tanzania. You have to update yourself: here are the rubies of Greenland which, for the first time, are used to compose a single collection. The idea is by Ulrik Hartmann, a Danish jeweler who launches a collection made up of rubies and sapphires extracted from the frozen depths of the Arctic country.

The collection consists of over 50 pieces, made with around 300 carats of greenish pink rubies and sapphires.

If you are interested, know that the price of jewels is between 1500 and 45000 dollars. The decision of Hartmann was made after visiting the country’s mines, which highlight sustainable processes for the extraction of the gems: each Greenland Ruby stone is endowed with a certificate of origin authorized and issued by the Government of Greenland, which guarantees a high standard for human rights and environmental responsibility, the company said.
At the moment there is only one company that extracts pink rubies and sapphires in Greenland in a remote site of Aappaluttoq, 155 miles south of Nuuk, the capital of the country. And it does not have to be a walk. Giulia Netrese

Salvini puts the color in Luminosa

//

Salvini still extends the Luminosa collection with jewels with emeralds, rubies and sapphires ♦ ︎

It would be wrong to abandon a road that turns out to be full of pleasant surprises. Or, as in the case of Salvini’s Luminosa collection, full of confirmations. The Luminosa collection, in fact, is a successful case of the Maison that is part of the Damiani group. And so periodically the collection is expanded with new pieces. And now also with the addition of color.

At VicenzaOro Salvini presented variants of the Luminosa collection with rubies, emeralds and sapphires.

In short, not just diamonds, which remain the queen stone of the Piedmontese house, but also that touch of classic precious gems. Salvini, it is good to remember, follows a path away from the experimentations, sometimes bizarre, of some designers. Instead, he prefers the sure approach of a style that is mostly dedicated to jewelry for anniversaries, engagements and weddings. In this case rings, necklaces and earrings keep the star shape that has inaugurated the collection, but put in the center a stone that adds liveliness to the jewel. Lavinia Andorno

Jewels with rubies, emeralds and sapphires from Salvini’s Colourful collection ♦ ︎

A diamond is forever, but even a ring with a ruby or a sapphire is joking. Although Salvini is a trademark of jewelry often associated with the classic white gold and diamonds, its music it’s not everytime the same. The Colourful collection, for example, as the name suggests is dedicated to jewels with colored stones. In harmony with the Salvini style, these are jewels with classic shapes, but with a particularity: the stones in the center of the jewels are cut to heart. It is not a usual form for ruby reds and blue sapphires or green emeralds, with stones mounted on a four-jaw setting. Always combined with diamonds, so as not to lose the imprinting of the Maison.
This new view of the collection interpreted by the stones in the shape of a heart is designed to become a welcome gift for the engagement, or for some important occasion. A few indicative prices: the white gold, diamond and ruby earrings cost about 2500 euros, a ring with sapphire 2500 euros, chain and pendant with ruby 2200 euros. Lavinia Andorno

Christie’s sold Rockefeller’s jewels

The collection of Peggy and David Rockefeller sold by Christie’s for 3.1 million dollars in New York ♦ ︎

The total budget indicates a sale of jewelry for 20 million dollars (about 17 million euros). Who knows if he would have satisfied David Rockefeller, the legendary American banker, who passed away last year, who together with his wife Peggy had collected a lot of the pieces auctioned by Christie’s in New York. The sale totaled 89% of lots sold, 95% by value. The highest price was obtained by a 20.47 carat diamond ring, sold for 2.6 million dollars. A sapphire of Kashmir and a 5-carat diamond ring, by Raymond Yard, part of the Collection of Peggy and David Rockefeller, made 372,000 dollars. But overall, the Peggy and David Rockefeller collection sold jewels for 3.1 million. It should be noted that the proceeds from the sale of jewelry will not increase the current account of the family, but will be donated to charity.
Among the other particularly popular pieces, a diamond necklace with fringes, sold for 1.5 million and the Berlin ruby, ring with oval heated ruby, weighing about 4.59 carats, flanked on both sides by a diamond, sold for 1.1 million (from a maximum estimate of 600,000 dollars). The impressive suite of jewelry signed by Van Cleef & Arpels consisting of ring necklace, bracelet and earrings with peridots and diamonds, starting at $ 80,000, has reached up to 348,000. Forever Unique in 4 colors

//

The Forever Unique Sinuo Color collection with the classic precious stones: sapphires, emeralds, rubies and diamonds. With a special certification ♦ ︎
White, blue, red and green: these are the colors of a hypothetical jewelery flag. They are the shades, that is, of the main stones: sapphires, emeralds, rubies and diamonds. This new palette is based on the new Forever Unique Sinuo Color collection, the result of the work of the jewelry designer Paola Casorati. Made in Italy, the jewels of this line are multiplied in 11 sets, four with sapphires, three with emeralds and four with rubies, all on white gold. On the other hand, the common, pure, natural and ethical diamonds are certified by IIDGR, the International Institute of Diamond Grading & Research (a company of the Beers group). The warranty on the stones used is then engraved on the diamond belt with a special laser writing.
In addition to the usual 4 C, Carat (caratura), Color (color), Clarity (purity) and Cut (cut), IIDGR is added the certification of a fifth feature: the Confidence C (trust), guarantee of ethics and transparency ‘use of stones that meet the requirements of the Kimberley Process of the World Diamond Council approved by the United Nations, ie the so-called ethical diamonds. And, of course, natural and not synthetic. Lavinia Andorno

Picchiotti, new luxury Xpandable

//

New expansion of Picchiotti’s Xpandable collection: flexible rings with exceptional stones surrounded by diamonds ♦ ︎
Xpandable is one of Picchiotti’s most popular collections. The high-end jewelry Maison in Valenza has in fact thought of combining the concept of luxury with that of comfort: the rings or bracelets of this collection boast not only a great wealth of raw material, that is, the precious stones used, but also the pleasantness of a flexible system that adapts to the finger or the wrist thanks to an invisible elastic system (thanks to a patent). No fear, therefore, that the precious jewel is no longer wearable because of a severe weight loss diet or (more often) of a few pounds that is added over time.
Picchiotti at Baselworld 2018 presented a series of new pieces of great appeal of the series. But now he anticipates another, destined to shine at the next Couture in Las Vegas. It is a ring with seven extraordinary octagonal emeralds in a three-dimensional setting of baguettes and round diamonds. Certainly one of the leading pieces of the Piedmontese company. But also the other rings are not less preciouses. The jewels are conceived with central stones of particular value. Among all, to report a ring with a rare oval sapphire of purple color, not heated, which is also the Pantone Color for 2018. The central stones are then matched to the circle of the ring, covered with diamonds. «For the new generation of Xpandable rings we have created a series with a center of exceptional precious stones, making each ring an exclusive unique piece», is the comment by Giuseppe Picchiotti, founder of the Maison. Bonhams celebrates David Webb

/

Rubies, sapphires, diamonds and 16 pieces by David Webb at Bonhams auction in New York ♦ ︎
Even if you do not have the money to buy the magnificent jewels of the magnificent auctions held in the wealth capitals, first of all Geneva, London, Hong Kong and New York, browsing the catalogs can be enjoyable. You can find exceptional jewels discovered, true masterpieces not only for their estimated value, but also for their artistic quality.
Also the auction scheduled by Bonhams in New York for April 17, 2018 (133 lots) does not miss interesting pieces in the catalog. A solitaire ring with premium quality, brilliant cut, 10,01 carats is the most valuable piece, with an estimated 500,000-700,000 dollars. But, if you are not a diamond enthusiast or an investor who wants to close the ring in a safe, it is not the most pleasant piece to watch. Better, for example, the Art Déco bracelet with rubies and diamonds by Cartier, dated around 1935. It has contrasting rubies with white diamonds, in seven rows, interspersed with baguette-cut diamond bars, with other old-cut diamonds. Rubies are of Burmese origin and not heated. With rubies (50) is also composed of a necklace of Bulgari, with oval-shaped graduated stones, the largest weighing about 2.15 carats, alternating with round brilliant-cut round diamonds. Rubies are of Burmese origin (Myanmar). In the catalog there is also a ring of rubies and diamonds by Mermod & Jaccard.
Rubies are the fashion stone at the moment, but sapphires never set. At the auction of Bonhams, for example, a ring with 9.85 carats of Kashmir sapphire and diamonds is estimated at 80.000-120.000 dollars, while a pendant necklace with Sri Lanka sapphire of 40.07 carats and diamonds rises to 280.000- 320.000 .
The David Webb jewelery
One of the reasons of interest of the auction are also the 16 pieces by David Webb. The American designer was famous for his large and daring jewels, in which he also used materials such as exotic shells, carved rock crystal, enamel and coral. The collection that Bonhams will offer includes a bracelet with fox-head diamonds, diamonds, emeralds, rubies and enamels: a perfect example of Webb’s love for jewelry in the shape of animals, made with enamels, diamonds, emeralds and rubies. Sotheby’s, a ruby is the winner

In Hong Kong the Sotheby’s auction in the sign of rubies and diamonds, the jade flop ♦ ︎
There are no longer the seasons of the past and not even the collectors of the past. Sotheby’s top lot at the Hong Kong auction, the perfect Circle of Heaven jade bracelet, did not find a buyer at the Magnificent Jewels auction, which totaled $ 48.6 million. The bracelet was valued at between 10.2 and 12.8 million dollars, but did not reach the minimum required. And to say that, according to Chinese tradition, jade is the “stone of paradise” which, together with the circular shape, provided the bracelet with a patent of perfection. The initial estimate is too high, obviously.
But it was not the only auction flop. A diamond of brilliant color, impeccable, of 17,63 carats, estimated at 2,8 million, was unsold, as a Cartier ring with a 14.72 carat brilliant cut Colombian emerald and brilliant cut diamonds (estimate up to 1.4 million) and even a ring with a 14.18 carat fancy blue diamond surrounded by rose diamonds, estimated at between 5.9 and 7.6 million dollars.
But of course, there were also jewels sold well. The most quoted was found to be a ring with a Burmese cut-cushion ruby weighing 24.70 carats, set in a pear-shaped diamond outline. And with a stem covered with a pavé of brilliant cut pink diamonds. It was sold for 11 million, as expected. In second place for value, there are a pair of pear cut diamond earrings sold for 3 million dollars, while a ring with fancy yellow 30.16 carat diamond has totaled 2.8 million and a pink-violet diamond-cut cushion of 5 carats was awarded for 2.5 million. Finally, a ring with a vivid yellow-orange diamond with an emerald cut of 10.30 carats, set between two tapered baguette diamonds, found a buyer for 1.4 million. Federico Graglia

This is the Circle of Heaven

/

A rare jade bracelet, great classic jewelry and Ashley Judd’s earrings at Sotheby’s in Hong Kong ♦ ︎
The great auctions come back with great jewels for big wallets. Everything is great at Sotheby’s auction on April 3rd in Hong Kong. For enthusiasts collectors of the Orient, the “highly translucent” jadeite bracelet will certainly be exciting, considered the most precious piece of the Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite auction. Sotheby’s has the aim of selling pieces for $ 93.6 million.
The assessment of the simple circle ranges from 10.2 to 12.8 million dollars. The most expensive round in history, perhaps. The bracelet also has a name: The Circle of Heaven. It has a full color, emerald green with “fine texture”. The name, apart from the perfection of the geometric form, derives from the fact that in China the tradition considers jadeite as the Stone of Heaven.
But there is not only the much appreciated jade auction, which also includes classic vintage jewelry, including a series of pieces in Art Deco style. A few samples: a Burmese ruby ring with a 24.70 carat cushion cut is valued at 11.8 million dollars. A 14.1 carat blue diamond surrounded by brilliant cut diamonds set in platinum and 18k rose gold is valued at up to 7.7 million.
Other interesting pieces are those found in a collection of designer earrings called Jewels for the Red Carpet. It is a collection inspired by actress Ashley Judd at the Golden Globe of 2018: she wore a pair of earrings with emeralds and diamonds by Martin Katz, which will be included in the auction and are valued at $ 256,000. Also in this part of the auction are earrings of keshi pearls, rock crystals and diamonds by the designer-artist Wallace Chan (valued up to $ 83,500), a pair of earrings with aquamarine and diamonds by Cartier (179,000), earrings with Bhagat spinels and diamonds (179,000) and a pair of Cindy Chao diamond earrings (109,000). The Arabesque by Sicis

/

Two new pieces of high jewelery made by Sicis with the technique of micromosaic, combined with diamonds and rubies, the Arabesque parure ♦ ︎
The micromosaic becomes a jewel: it is one of the Sicis skills, a company from Ravenna specialized in the art of combining tiny colored pieces. And it is no coincidence that this skill is developed in a city that houses some of the most beautiful and important mosaics in the world. Given this, here is the new effort of Sicis: the Arabesque set. It is a pair of earrings and a ring, which whit the micromosaic design have an oriental echo. The micromosaic, supported by a set of white gold, is also embellished with lines of white diamonds and a red rubies. The same composition is repeated for ring and hanging earrings, which use rubies at the height of the closure. In this case the geometric drop shape is made with diamonds, which is superimposed on the jewel: it’s a movable set and therefore oscillates according to the movements of the wearer’s body. All are for one with Giovanni Ferraris

//

The stacked rings of the Diva collection by Giovanni Ferraris: precious stones together with a skilful goldsmith’s technique ♦ ︎
Stacking different rings can be fun. But it is a game that has some contraindications. The first: if the rings on the same finger are many, it is difficult to remember the best sequence. Furthermore, it is easy for one of the rings to be lost. Third, it is easy that not all rings are of the same quality. Yet the game is nice. The solution has devised the skillful technique of Giovanni Ferraris, one of the leading names in the great jewelry of Valenza. His collection Divina, in fact, has divinely interpreted the game with the solution to avoid problems and get all the benefits from stacking rings. In fact, the seven circles that make up each ring in this collection are softly linked by a virtually invisible griffe. The ring, therefore, can be spread like an accordion or remain compressed as a single element. In short, as for the musketeers of Alexander Dumas: one for all and all for one.
As these are stacked rings, each circle has its own personality: shiny or satin gold, white, pink or yellow, with colored stones or diamonds, rubies or emeralds. Anchor: with stones of the same size or different. Or all these categories together. Certainly they are not rings that bore.

Picchiotti, brilliant to bridal

The new Picchiotti bridal collection, all diamond and precious stones ♦ ︎
The celebrations for the first 50 years of Picchiotti continue with a special new collection dedicated to the sacred moment of the couple: marriage. Whatever the style, the rite, and the related forms of libation, the wedding day comes after a promise, but also a premise. What is always before is, in fact, the choice of an appropriate gem to celebrate the moment to mark on the book of life. Often this is a ring, but it is not said that the gift of a jewel is forcibly the prerogative of the groom. A parent, for example, can give a jewel which is also become a small capital that is revalued over time. But we back to Picchiotti: the new bridal collection does not lose what is the code of the Maison of Valenza, the choice of large colored stones, and particularly diamonds of great quality with great brilliance. A greatness, in short, that does not reside in size, but in choosing to point to the top. More than the adjectives, in any case, the images are effective. Giulia Netrese

Christie’s has a heart of 12.9 million

A heart-shaped diamond weighing 92-carat and sold to 12.9 million dollars: it was the top lot at Christie’s auction in Geneva ♦
Among jewels, but also wines and watches, Christie’s in Geneva has totaled 113.7 million dollars. It is useless to make comparisons, since the end result of an auction is also conditioned by individual pieces that can raise or lower the pitch. As for jewelery and precious stones, it was waiting for the heart-shaped diamond: it was sold for $ 15 million, at a price per carat of $ 163,016. It’s a new record in auction, says Christie’s, for a diamond with this particular cut, surpassing the previous $ 10.9 million record set just by Christie’s in May 2011. The initial diamond estimate ranged between 14 and 20 million. The diamond, color D, weighs 92.15 carats and was set by Boehmer et Bassenge in a sautoir.
To sell it to an anonymous buyer (by phone) it took only three minutes. This too is a record, of speed. But a good result was also obtained by an oval cut Burmese ruby. Even in this case, the bid price was halfway between the minimum and maximum of the estimate: $ 12.9 million (the starting point was between 10 and 15 million). Another price tag for auction carat was achieved by a blue diamond, cushion cut, fancy intense, almost 8 carats. It was awarded 12.7 million. Federico Graglia

A heart beats for Christie’s

A Christie’s auction in Geneva will be loved by collectors: in fact at the top there is a heart-shaped diamond ♦
The return of the big auction of jewelry, the return of dreams for who only can only leaf through the catalog, return the attention of collectors and enthusiasts. An important event has already been set: at the Four Seasons in Geneva on May 17, is scheduled the next auction of Magnificent Jewels organized by Christie’s. The hammer of the auctioneer will mark the judgment of some 250 jewelery. Meanwhile, the jewelry will go on tour as a theater company to be seen live: after Hong Kong, are in Rome (5-6 April), London April 10 to 12, in New York April 21 to 25 and May 5 to 8, before returning to Geneva.
As often happens, the center is a diamond. Large, heart-shaped, 92-carat, D, Flawless, signed by Boehmer et Bassenge. La Maison de Haute Joaillerie that debuted last year is already a star of the auctions. He works exclusively with large diamonds and the highest quality. And with these super stones creates equally precious jewels. The diamond in question has been baptized with the name of La Legende. It is part of a sautoir of pearls: the whole is estimated 14 to 20 million dollars. It is the largest D color diamond heart shape, Flawless, offered at auction.
Earrings and rubies
Another piece in the spotlight: La Vie Bohème, a pair of chandelier earrings, each with a large marquise cut diamond in suspension and a bow with pink diamonds. Each drop is D color, flawless clarity, perfectly symmetrical cuts. So much perfection is valued at 2-3 million dollars.
Rubies like this, until the mid-nineteenth century, only the ruler of Burma or an individual deemed worthy by the sovereign could have had a 15 carat stone ring like the one auctioned at Christie’s. The Burmese rubies were not exceeded in quality. Historically were extracted in the Mogok valley, in the northern part of Burma, only two miles long and half a mile wide. One of the main reasons for the quality of these rubies is due to the high chromium content in the soil, which makes it extremely saturated red, often referred to as pigeon blood. Another factor is their natural fluorescence which has the effect of making the stone come to life and appear internally illuminated. The ring estimate of 10-15 million dollars. But in the auction there is also a ring with a 14.88 carat Kashmir sapphire, characterized by an attractive blue color and excellent purity of a combination rarely encountered in stones of this size (estimate: 1,000,000 to 1.5000000). There are also pieces that belonged to the wealthy ladies of the last century, such as necklace of Doris Duke collection, heiress and benefactor. The necklace is made of platinum, signed Cartier, who has sold 30 April 1937. Federico Graglia

A double exploits for Bayco

A giant sapphire and ruby are extraordinary actors at Baselworld with Bayco.
A ring with a big sapphire cabochon Burmese. Or a ring with a ruby 15 carats. Are two of the prominent pieces which Bayco shows in Baselworld 2017.

Bayco is a jewelry brand founded in New York in 1981 by brothers Moris and Giacomo Hadjibay, of Iranian origin. The two brothers, after spending their youth and apprenticeship in Italy, where they worked with his father Amir Hadjibay, expert and dealer in gems, have decided to launch its own brand in New York. With the experience accumulated in the family as part of the precious stones, the idea was quickly to create unique pieces, jewelry which put at the center rubies, emeralds, diamonds or sapphires. Bayco is now an established name of high jewelery and his pieces are required in markets around the world, partly because the traditional activities in the field of gems has not been abandoned.
The jewels, in short, are made as of the shape and specificity of the stones even before an abstract design. Examples are the ones chosen to Baselworld. The Burmese sapphire is out of the ordinary: it weighs 60 carats, has pan cutting sugar, and stands atop a ring paved with diamonds. The sapphire upper part is detachable from the ring and can be used as a pendant on a necklace. The ruby on ring, Burmese natural, unheated and extremely rare of this size, has a double row of pear-shaped colorless diamond weighing 14 carats total. It is considered by Bayco one of the most important gems in the world. Alessia Mongrando

The Amphitheatre by Picchiotti

Debuts at Baselworld the Amphitheatre ring, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Picchiotti brand. But not only.
Few Italian brands summarize the ability to interpret the jewelry with a classic, elite, and refined style as Picchiotti. A story that has lasted since 1967, when Giuseppe Picchiotti has made its foray into the world of jewelry with the opening of a studio in Valenza. Before long, the Maison has risen from debutant role to that of big player in the playing field of high-end jewelry. The style of Picchiotti have is traditional, classic, but not trivial. Indeed, often the great gems used for rings, necklaces and earrings raise an “oh” of surprise.
One proof is L’Anfiteatro (The Amphitheatre), a ring intended to celebrate an important date: the 50th birthday of the brand. The ring in the middle of fulfilling its task: at the center stands a 08.05 carat ruby and the design is inspired by a drawing of the founder and managing director of the company, Giuseppe Picchiotti. For the ring, the debut in society it was set at Baselworld 2017. In the Swiss city the Italian brand also presents the expansion of Xpandable collection, with rings and bracelets, showed in 2016: with this name the line could only widen. Giulia Netrese

Christie’s: blue diamond overcomes Ruby

The results of the auction of Magnificent Jewels at Christie’s in Hong Kong: a blue diamond sold for $ 11.8 million beats all.
Surprise: The Ratnaraj Ruby, ring with stone from the bright red color and a perfect crystal structure, it is not the most beautiful of them all. At least in a Christie’s auction in Hong Kong. The crowning, instead, has been a ring with blue marquise cut diamond by Moussaieff, sold for 11.8 million dollars. The ruby, however, came soon after: the stone was baptized ratnaraj, which means “king of precious stones” in ancient Sanskrit (the historical language of India). In reality, the ruby, weighing over 10 carats, mounted on a ring and surrounded by diamonds, it comes from Burma. This stone is considered to be of exceptional color and is called pigeon blood, a very rare quality. The estimate for this ring was between 8.8 and 12.5 million US dollars. It was sold for 10.2 million: exactly in the middle. In short, no record, but still quite successful. As always in auctions in the East is a highly valued the jade. A jade necklace was sold for 3.4 million dollars, while a suite of jadeite and diamond has carried 3.1 million. Of note is the two diamond earrings Boehmer et Bassenge newborn, sold for 2.8 million. Not bad for a rookie. Well even a pin with emerald signed Van Cleef & Arpels sold for 1 million. Federico Graglia
