Angeletti, a historic jewelery shop in via Condotti, in Rome, which also looks to the foreign market ♦

Via Condotti is the luxury shopping street in Rome. Here, in 1940, the Angeletti boutique was opened. The jewelry has sold the best brands for years (and continues to sell jewels of brands such as Pasquale Bruni or Chantecler) and, subsequently, has extended its offer to creations signed by the Roman Maison itself. Over time, the family of jewelers has developed an autonomous proposal and style.

Today Marcello Angeletti is joined by the third generation, with Roberto and Rina, with the aim of making the brand better known abroad. Angeletti’s jewels are modern, but with respect for tradition. Rings, earrings and bracelets use gold and precious stones, such as diamonds, and semiprecious stones, such as tourmaline and amethyst, mother of pearl, rock crystal, or coral. In addition, they boast a handcrafted finish, but are also able to offer a consistent quality standard. The prices are compatible with those of the luxury in via Condotti.

The 3D by Valeria D’Annibale

Valeria D’Annibale, hi-tech designer but without giving up the personal touch with her Varily Jewelry

From Rome (Italy) to Sidney (Australia) to design and produce bijoux with 3D printer technology. Valeria D’Annibale studied Jewelery and Object Design at the Enmore Design Center and goldsmithing in Italy: the synthesis of her work is the computer creation of earrings, rings, necklaces, bracelets and then translating them into objects with the use of nylon powder through a special printer. Varily Jewelry’s hi-tech jewels are sold directly online on her site.

There is also a phase two, because the objects are then finished by hand. In short, an activity between technology and craftsmanship, so much so that Valeria D’Annibale was long ago invited to participate in the Make Fair, an event dedicated to the world of new digital artisans that takes place in Rome. She, who explained that she had a passion for jewelry since she was a child, created her own jewelry brand in 2015. Hers is a very personal way, a bridge between hi-tech and tradition: in addition to 3D printing, in fact, he also uses silver and steel, before concluding the processing of the pieces by adding textures and finishes to make each piece something different.

The spring of Bettina T’s design

//

There is a type of jewelry that does not look to the past, but futuristically to the society of the present. This is the story of Bettina T, a brand created by the designer Cinzia Caviglia. The fact that the designer’s ideas were born in Rome, one of the cities with the most history behind it, makes Cinzia Caviglia’s choice to use shapes inspired by common objects, such as the springs used to hang the laundry to dry, even more unusual. Springs are not the only element that is extrapolated from its context to become a jewel. In fact, the Industrial collection also includes other jewels that find their origin, as far as design is concerned, in another area. The jewels are made of silver or gold, in some cases with the addition of small diamonds.

Orecchini in oro bianco con diamanti
Orecchini in oro bianco con diamanti

Perhaps this vocation for aesthetic contamination derives from the training of Cinzia Caviglia, who started as a graphic designer, who adds in her bio the inclination to blend apparently distinct subjects, from design to photography, from glass craftsmanship to illustration and to 3D creations. The transmigration into the world of jewelry is due, however, to her work with her mother Bettina in the family jewelry, which she then continued, with the addition of new ideas.

Volcanic Emanuela

The unique volcanic jewels of Roman design based in New York Emanuela Duca, including burnished silver, gold and diamonds ♦

European culture and artistic formation contaminated by an essential style, the American one: Emanuela Duca, a Roman artist who lives and works in New York, in her jewels evokes volcanic ashes and ancient ruins, modeled in forms with sharp and modern contours, with harsh surfaces and earthy. Rings, bracelets and earrings sculpted in wax, then forged in burnished silver, hammered, bent, laundry, they look very natural, almost earthy and at the same time light and delicate. They give the feeling of something primitive yet sophisticated, simple but structured because it is sculptural. A contrast in gold, silver and diamonds.

Before founding her jewelry house in 2005, Emanuela Duca studied dance, painting and sculpture in Rome. For this reason, she maintains that his jewels represent a sort of marriage between movement and sculpture. Emanuela Duca latest collection is titled Svelare (unfolding) and consists of textured pieces in gold and silver studded with precious gems.

The Baroque Rome of Diego Percossi Papi

Percossi Papi jewelry, also were choose to Trendvision 2018, a jewelry style selection ♦

In the seventeenth century of Bernini, the stage were squares and churches. Now the stage is that of cinema. Especially if you are in Rome, the capital of the italian cinema. Diego Percossi Papi, with his workshop near the Pantheon, in the heart of Baroque Rome, went up in 1968 on the stage of the jewelry and, at the same time of films.

He was working, in fact, even with the film industry for the jewelry to movies. He report himself his most prestigious collaborations: films like Rossini! Rossini (directed by Mario Monicelli, starring Philippe Noiret and Jacqueline Bisset), The Elective Affinities (directed by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, starring Isabelle Huppert), Francesca and Nunziata (directed by Lina Wertmüller, starring Sophie Loren), Alatriste (directed by Agustín Díaz Yanes, starring Viggo Mortensen), Luisa Sanfelice (directed by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, starring Laetitia Casta), Elizabeth: the Golden Age (directed by Shekhar Kapur starring Cate Blanchett), who won the prize Oscarper costumes. But you don’t think that his main job is to work in film. His activity is make jewellery: they are processed, as baroque shape, and it seem to be born to be under the stucco of Roman palaces, with elaborate friezes, delicate scrollwork, drops and grotesque. A journey back in time than is so perfect today.

The story continues with Seliti

//

Following in the footsteps of one’s parents is quite common. Less frequent is to continue the path traveled by grandparents. Or, in the case of Livia Mimosa Fazioli, of her grandmother Hedy Martinelli, a Roman designer who invented a very personal style in jewelry. Livia founded her own brand, Seliti, but she is also CEO of her grandmother’s Maison, born in 1975 when Hedy Martinelli turned from a collector of antique jewelery to a designer. In short, Livia Mimosa Fazioli grew up between gold and diamonds and her passion for high jewelery led her to launch the new pret-à-porter collection.

The Seliti store is at the same address, in the heart of Rome, as Hedy Martinelli. At the heart of the collections, explains the young designer, are the teachings of her grandmother, such as the ability to transform even simple abstract concepts into sculptures. Seliti’s jewels are made of silver, often black rhodium plated, or in vermeil, that is, with a gold plating. The shapes of rings, bracelets and necklaces are often irregular, sometimes with the insert of coins minted in the style of those of ancient Rome.

Giuliana Mancinelli Bonaface, simple design

The jewels by Giuliana Mancinelli Bonafaccia ♦ ︎
Fashion and bijoux. Fashion and jewelery. Fashion and architecture. If you combine these three elements into one person, here is Giuliana Mancinelli Bonafaccia, a young Roman designer who is among the most trendy signatures in Italy. But she likes to breathe an international air: one of her collections, for example, is inspired by the long road that crosses the United States, described in countless books and songs. A mythical place, transformed into Giuliana Mancinelli’s design, in perfect geometries and mixed with a good dose of fantasy. The bijoux have modern shape and are made with simple materials such as gold plated brass and Swarovski crystals.

Graduated in architecture with address in interior design, Giuliana immediately directed her work on jewelery and goldsmith work. She then also graduated in gemology at the Igi of Antwerp and in 2011, she debuted with a line of jewels. But she then expanded her interest in the world of accessories and, more generally, in fashion: she collaborated, in fact, with AltaRoma, a couture event. On the other hand, does it make sense a clear distinction, today, among jewelry and fashion?

Rome prepares a Jewelry Week

After Milan (which, however, has suspended the program due to covid), Rome will also have its Jewelry Week. A three-day event to be held in autumn (the date has not yet been determined) in conjunction with the Incinque Jewels Award organized by the Incinque Open Art Monti association. This is a contest that aims to promote the culture of contemporary jewelery in Rome and which will take place for the first time in the historic location Auditorium di Mecenate, an environment over two thousand years old, dating back to 30 BC.

The event aims to enhance contemporary, author, artist and historical goldsmith jewelery with the aim of offering the public a high cultural value that enhances the great heritage of the city, connecting the most interesting realities of the sector. Also in this case the protagonists are the jewelry designers and the excellence of Roman goldsmiths, jewelry ateliers, galleries, academies and associations based in Rome. The exhibition is open, upon selection, also to designers from other Italian cities and from abroad.

In the intentions of the organizers, the Jewelry Week will include exhibitions, presentations, awards and talks, which will benefit from the artistic wealth of the Eternal City. The RJW event is conceived by Monica Cecchini, architect, creator and director of the project. The selection of the companies involved makes use of the consultancy of the goldsmith artist Emanuele Leonardi and the historian and critic of the jewel Bianca Cappello. The marketing and communication project is entrusted to the consultant Eugenia Gadaleta.

It is important to create a system to give voice and make known the excellence in this sector at an international level: we want to create a reference event to enhance the city of Rome and its vast cultural, intangible and artistic heritage that meets the needs of a new generation of tourism far from the hasty and consumerist one.

Eternal love for Herda Roma

/

x

Ramona Herda is a young designer who founded her jewelery house in Rome. The choice of the city is not accidental, because architecture and art are the main sources of inspiration for her jewelry collections. And in Rome neither of these sources is missing. On the other hand, the designer was born in Bucharest into a family of architects and it can be said that she has breathed columns and capitals since childhood. Although Herda loves Rome in particular, more generally it is the numerous works of art that are so common in Italy that exert fascination: she applies the compositional rules of classical and modern architecture, the proportions between volumes, luminous contrasts and energies to her jewels. of the Baroque.

Anello in oro bianco e gemme della collezione Amore Eterno
Anello in oro bianco e gemme della collezione Amore Eterno

It comes as no surprise, then, that her jewels are a reflection of these passions. Ramona then attended jewelery schools and ateliers to learn the techniques of working precious metals and stones. After this apprenticeship, Ramona Herda inaugurated her boutique (she receives by appointment only) in the Parioli district of Rome, a few minutes from Villa Borghese.

The latest collection is called Amore Eterno (eternal love): a romantic name which, however, is inspired by the three classical orders of architecture: Doric, Ionic and Corinthian, recurring elements of Roman and, of course, Greek architecture. The three styles are merged into the three different sizes of the rings that make up the collection. The shape is inspired by the Bull, the base of two of the three styles, the Corinthian and the Ionic, while the combination of precious stones responds to the thought of the historian Marcus Vitruvius, who associated the Doric with male proportions and the Ionic with female ones. But, perhaps, true eternal love with a long life guarantee is that for art.

Rosa Ugolini or, better, Rossella Ugolini, the name of her brand, made her debut in 1986 with her first line of jewelry. In Miami. After this exploit, she worked for Italian goldsmith companies, such as Uno A Erre and Gianni Carità, designing exclusive collections. But, as soon as she was able, the designer created her Maison, based in Rome. The jewels by Marco Mancin

/

It is not easy to find the most authentic jewelry, the one that follows the traditions and rites of the past. Marco Mancini is a jeweler who follows this road from a corner of the italian province, Civitavecchia, a town on the Tyrrhenian Sea a few kilometers from Rome. And perhaps it is the good fortune of not having to chase fashions that has helped to keep the most classic goldsmith tradition firm. After the classic apprenticeship in a goldsmith’s workshop, the jeweler opened his workshop in 1982, helped by his wife Marida and, today, by his children Alessandro and Sara.

Uno dei pezzi di alta gioielleria di Marco Mancini: Eden, pendente con smeraldo colombiano e diamanti

As a citizen who lives and works on the outskirts of Rome, Mancini remembers with particular passion the link with the Vatican on the occasion of the meeting with Pope John Paul III. On three different occasions, between 1994 and 2004, the jeweler’s creations received the Pope’s blessings. But Marco Mancini also has a deep bond with Civitavecchia, a source of inspiration. As for the high-end jewelry line, however, the inspiration comes from the classic tradition of the best production: the best pieces boast precious gems, meticulous workmanship and a shape that harks back to the most successful models of yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Ability to read financial statements with the attitude to the arts, became the jewelery company after meeting Ruggero Rocchetti, who along with his brothers Roberta and Ricky has a jewelry store in Rome, in via Tomacelli. In 2013, therefore, it was born Niquesa Fine Jewellery, with Elizabeth at the helm as creative director. The ability to create collections is instead entrusted to Rocchetti. The jewelry is colorful, elaborate and refined: you can find in Florence, from Luisaviaroma, or in the studio of Niquesa London, in Belgravia. Giulia Netrese

The coincidences of Lucia Odescalchi

///

Palazzo Chigi-Odescalchi is an ancient seventeenth-century palace in Rome, with a facade designed by Bernini. Lucia Odescalchi Jewels is based here. But the noble origins and the historic home of the founder, Lucia Odescalchi, do not prevent her from being a jewelry designer who does not pay too much attention to ancient tradition and focuses more on the modernity of form. Who knows if it is a coincidence, then, if one of the novelties of the Roman brand, the Zelda collection, has the same name as a heroine of Nintendo video games. Coincidences.

Yet Lucia Odescalchi’s jewels, in the designer’s opinion, are not designed to simply adapt to what is in fashion at the moment. Even if they do not escape production innovations, as evidenced by the mixed use of steel, silver, gold, platinum, silicone, resins. They are jewels that are placed in a world apart, which is not that of luxury nor that of bijoux. In addition to online, Lucia Odescalchi’s jewels are sold by Barneys in New York, by Luisa Via Roma, Golconda Jewelery House in Moscow, Seven Boutique in Kharkov (Ukraine) and Sun Motoyama in Tokyo.

The Memento by Giulia Barela

//

San Pantaleo, for Christians, is the patron saint of doctors and midwives. And in Piazza San Pantaleo, in Rome, there is the atelier of Giulia Barela, one of the signatures of the jewelry of the capital of Italy. What is the link? Simple: for the designer, beauty must be a practice of well-being. Somehow, in short, jewels can heal the spirit or, at least, give a good mood. From this principle Giulia Barela started to conceive the Memento collection.

The word is linked to the concept of memory and, therefore, of awareness of the past, in particular for the female condition. And perhaps the stair-shaped elements that make up some of the pieces in the collection also symbolize the ups and downs of life, as well as a metaphor for personal growth. Another recurring icon is that of the four-leaf clover, a good luck charm. In any case, the collection, made with sculptural effects, consists of 13 pieces: two bracelets, five rings, a necklace and a pendant. They are available in both 925 silver and 24-karat gold-plated bronze.

Patrizia Corvaglia, homage to ancient Rome

Patrizia Corvaglia is a Roman jewelry designer and Roman artist. And like many Romans (and many non-Romans too) she loves the Eternal City. This is confirmed by the new jewelry collection which is, in fact, dedicated to Rome (with the hope of a rebirth that will bring the prodromes a new renaissance after the terrible months of the covid-19 pandemic). The collection includes a series of bronze jewels that reproduce, stylized, the geometries of some of the most famous monuments in Rome, such as the Cupolone (San Pietro), the Campidoglio, the Colosseum, the Roman Aqueduct, and even the profile of Agrippina , noblewoman and empress of ancient Rome.

Rome is my city, the one where I have lived since I was a child, the one that has welcomed me, embraced and given me all the beauty that has served me to travel my way. Rome has always been linked to art and classicism, in this collection I wanted to re-propose the classic taste and the symbolic monuments of the city. The endless walks to look with the nose towards the sky its infinite domes, statues, temples, squares and alleys where every thought and worry were nullified by the grandeur of its majesty. When we say that beauty will save the world, we mean exactly this: beauty is capable of taking us to another dimension, of detaching ourselves from the one in which mediocrity assaults us and disturbs us to make us fly in an enormous infinity that elevates us, while everything else becomes small and distant. This collection is my dedication to you, to my love, to my city: Rome.

High jewelery by Bulgari in the Barocko of Rome

High jewelery, Bulgari, Rome. Three words that summarize an entire world. But also a style. The Italian capital, for example, is also famous for its Baroque monuments. It is no coincidence, therefore, that the Roman Maison, which is part of the Lvmh group, chose Barocko as its name for its new collection of high jewelery, consisting of 50 pieces. However, these are not jewels that simply copy the curls of Bernini’s churches.

Collana Chiaroscuro in oro bianco, con 1 rubellite rettangolare (8,65 ct), 1 tormalina verde rettangolare (12,18 ct), 1 ametista rettangolare (9,81 ct), 1 citrino rettangolare (9,25 ct), 1 quarzo giallo verdastro rettangolare (7,60 ct ), 1 acquamarina rettangolare (9,94 ct), 1 tanzanite rettangolare (14,17 ct), 87 diamanti a taglio brillante rotondo e pavé di diamanti (44,72 ct)
Collana Chiaroscuro in oro bianco, con 1 rubellite rettangolare (8,65 ct), 1 tormalina verde rettangolare (12,18 ct), 1 ametista rettangolare (9,81 ct), 1 citrino rettangolare (9,25 ct), 1 quarzo giallo verdastro rettangolare (7,60 ct ), 1 acquamarina rettangolare (9,94 ct), 1 tanzanite rettangolare (14,17 ct), 87 diamanti a taglio brillante rotondo e pavé di diamanti (44,72 ct)

On the contrary, these are many unique pieces composed with a triumph of precious stones and, above all, with a free interpretation of the source of inspiration, that is, baroque architecture. An example: the Lady Arabesque necklace in 18-carat pink gold, composed of a pear-shaped 3.42 carat purple sapphire, a pear-shaped purplish pink sapphire of 3.55 carats, two cushion-shaped purple sapphires of 3.72 carats, 14 sapphires ovals and pink and purple cushion (28.64 carats), 11 fancy paraiba tourmalines (16.35 carats), 15 round emeralds (3.38 carats), five pear cut diamonds (3.70 carats), 157 fancy diamonds ( 8.71 carat) and a pavé of diamonds (16.94 carat).

Wealth, imagination, inspiration: but in the personal setting of Lucia Silvestri, the creative director of the Maison. As is evident from the example described, these are unique pieces that required a difficult selection of gems and an equally patient craftsmanship. Another aspect that is immediately evident concerns, in fact, the choice of stones, which is not limited to the traditional four, that is, white diamonds, emeralds, blue sapphires and rubies. Both the colors and the cut of the gems follow the Baroque flair of the deviation from the norm. As in the case of the platinum Raggio di Luce ring, with a heptagonal cut diamond (it has seven sides) fancy vivid yellow-orange of 5.02 carats.

Anna and Alex, artistic bijoux

Anna and Alex, the author’s jewelry that are fun like many jewels can not be.
Two girlfriends, the same passion: the artistic bijoux. Those that are not accessories that are assembled for hobby, do not use substandard materials, they are not the result of estrus random and often tacky. It’s the opposite. Anna and Alex proposes a type of jewelry that is signed, the result of a clear creative, original, quality. They work in Rome, but they have a history with so many different experiences. The biography of Anna Neri, born in Italy, records that she lived in Los Angeles and Pittsburgh, where she graduated in business administration, with a specialization in international marketing. In Rome Anna began his career, instead, in tourism and luxury.

Alessandra Sales came instead in New York, but it is also grown in Turin, Verona and Geneva. After studying History and Law, Alessandra has been working in the world of external relations, up to direction of the Bulgari communication structure. A successful career. But it’s no longer fun to create jewelery? The belief, the story goes, came with appreciation received by Emma Thompson in London, who has worn the Anna and Alex v at the premiere of her movie, Nanny Mc Phee. Now the brand is established and the two designers you do not lose the major events in the sector.

The eco friendly rings by Sbottonando

/

The accessory brand Sbottonando launches the Triuso acetate rings, friends of the environment ♦ ︎

Here are the rings that Greta Thunberg (maybe) likes, the Swedish girl who has become the symbol of the struggle for environmental protection. In Rome, many kilometers south of Stockholm, an eco-friendly jewelry line is born. This is Triuso and is launched by Sbottonando, a brand of eco-sustainable accessories founded by Michela Monaco.

The Triuso rings (which the brand writes with capital letters TRIuSo) are made with a particular cellulose acetate, obtained from cellulose obtained from the cotton plant and wood fibers. This cellulose, compared to the traditional one, is composed of a higher percentage of elements obtained from renewable sources. And also the plasticizer necessary for making an acetate plate is of vegetable origin.

Tamara D'Andria con gli anelli eco friendly
Tamara D’Andria con gli anelli eco friendly

Not only that: the rings of Sbottonando arise from the recovery of industrial waste from the production of glasses. The rings have transparent or monocolored colors, or with many different shades.

Sbottonando was born years ago from a ring made for fun. Over the years, I have made thousands of jewels, one by one, a meticulous craftsmanship aimed at enhancing the uniqueness of each piece, recovering hundreds of flashes, scraps from tailored workshops, unused buttons. Triuso is a very different line from the previous ones, but united by the concept of eco-sustainability and the recovery of materials that would otherwise remain unused. Everything started last year when Legambiente asked me to create creations for a fundraising campaign. I needed buttons with a shape that could remind the turtle’s carapace and clearly an environmentally-friendly material. The search for a company that could support me in the realization of my idea and that was sensitive to environmental issues, led to the birth of a splendid synergy with Essequadro, leader in the production of glasses. The extraordinary nature of the work consists in the meticulous craftsmanship that is hidden behind each ring, each polished, brushed and finished by hand. One by one, each piece is unique.

Rose petals with Ellebi Gioielli

/

The Rose Petals collection by Ellebi Gioielli, designer Livia Bonanni brand ♦ ︎

Petali di rosa is the name of the new collection by the Roman designer Livia Bonanni, who founded the Ellebi Gioielli brand. Obviously the jewels are in silver, are inspired by flowers and are designed and made entirely by hand with the lost wax technique: an ancient sculptural practice originally introduced in the Bronze Age and used for fusions in Greek, Roman and monumental sculpture. Livia Bonanni has decided to bring the collection to Artistar Jewels 2019 Fall Edition, an annual Contemporary Jewelry project that brings together artists from all over the world. The event is scheduled from 24 to 27 October during Milan Jewelry Week.

The designer lives and works in Rome. In 2014 she attended the city’s Academy of goldsmith Arts, where she learned the techniques of fusion and banquet processing, the study and creation of classic handmade jewelery. In 2018 she decided to study the history of contemporary jewelery and its evolution at the Rome Academy of Costume and Fashion. And this last experience was a prerequisite for the creation of the line inspired by the beauty of flowers.
