Also part of the collection is an outstanding necklace with an elegant 42-45cm double chain and rose which is accented by four decorative diamond-set pendant chains. Fairy tales, poems, magic. They all fly with the same means of transport: the wings of fantasy. Which, for Piaget, become the Wings of Light collection. Light, on the other hand, is the necessary complement to enhance the high jewelery of the Swiss Maison, which always manages to surprise with its refined collections. As in fairy tales, the collection of unique pieces is made up of three chapters, which in turn tell a story of high craftsmanship jewels.

Majestic Plumage Set

The most amazing piece is a bird wing shaped necklace. An element that often occurs in jewelry, but in this case reinterpreted with particularly high levels of craftsmanship and chromatic creativity. To recreate tropical colors and feather inlay, Piaget turned to a plumage specialist: the Maître d’Art Nelly Saunier. The result is a setting of the gems that perfectly emulates the plumage of an exotic bird using, in addition to the feathers, a rainbow of sapphires and spinels of different colors. At the center of the majestic necklace is a large 7.49 carat Paraiba tourmaline from Mozambique. The necklace can be worn with or without the inlaid element of feathers, which can be removed and worn as a bracelet, or further divided into two parts to be worn on both ears.

The earrings of the same set are centered, instead, on a red spinel, less known than ruby but equally precious, and so similar to ruby that was simply known as balas ruby until modern times when the science of gemmology developed and discern the difference. These 2.70-carat pear-shaped gemstones from Tanzania, which flank the multi-colored sapphires: they are small masterpieces that required 140 hours of work to make. Secret Cenote Set

The name of this set is inspired by a spectacular natural swimming pool located in Mexico, the Cenote (translated as “sacred well”). This pearl of nature is transformed into a large 22.68 carat sapphire extracted in Ratnapura, Sri Lanka, which is located in the center of the necklace. It is a stone of exceptional beauty, accompanied by a cascade of diamonds. The craftsmanship needed to produce this effect lasted 230 hours. The set includes a ring that sports an 11.34 carat sapphire with intense blue hue and strong saturation, which comes from Madagascar. The surrounding diamonds are marquise-shaped, specially cut to reflect the leafy vines that grow and climb around the pool of water, the Cenote source of inspiration for the set. And, always with the same elements, sapphires and diamonds, the matching earrings are composed. But that is not all.

There is also a watch that echoes the blue and green of tropical vegetation, the lush colors of nature, but this time with a majestic black opal as a dial and in the surrounding details. The most refined black opal in the world, extracted in Australia, has been appreciated as an ornamental stone by Piaget for over half a century, since they appeared in the iconic clock designs of the sixties. The pattern of baguette-cut stones, diamonds, sapphires and opals is studied with pleasant asymmetry. This too is a reference to the natural environment and, just as naturally, they are pleasant to the eye.

Rainbow Light Set
Light like a palette in the sky: it is the image of the rainbow. A historic collection by Piaget, Possession, comes back to the fore with lots of news. The Geneva Maison launched the Possession collection in 1990 thanks to its mobile elements, which awaken the tactile sense and entertain. The characteristic of Possessione, in fact, is the central band left free to rotate and the diamond with a crescent setting, used for the first time on a ring that immediately received the approval of the Maison’s first customers. The rotation mechanism was subsequently adopted also for colored bracelets, earrings and necklaces, all with elements free to move to delight and amuse the wearer.

The novelty of 2020 is a new service thanks to which customers can customize the rear of the Possession pendants, thus transforming them into a lucky jewel. The necklaces are available in white or pink gold and have a central cabochon element free to rotate, which has one side adorned with 46 brilliant cut diamonds (approximately 0.48 carat), while the other side can accommodate a personalized engraving such as a special date, a lucky number, initials or a symbol. The outer section also has diamonds on one side and thus offers different ways of wearing the necklace.

Photographers know that the dawn is defined as a golden hour and it’s a special moment, in which the colors are vivid and the sky clear. The mix of white and colored diamonds recreates the light of the first rays of the sun, with at the center a fancy vivid yellow diamond of 6.63 carats. Often confused with other stones, tourmaline is characterized by a wide range of hues and shades. No coincidence that the name comes from a Sinhalese word turmali, used to indicate carnelian and stones of different colors from Sri Lanka. Source The most important deposits are in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Russia, Burma, Sri Lanka, and United States (California and Maine). Many African countries have recently become major producers of tourmaline, particularly Madagascar, Namibia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Nigeria and Malawi.

Evaluation is not a simple thing due the amount of varieties and colors. The first thing to do is to examine the stone in sunlight: a green gem under an incandescent bulb may appear almost black, while a pink or red appears gray or brown. If, even under artificial light, keeps its natural tones, is likely to be a stone with a fine color. But beware, the primary color should be predominant for 70-75%. The rest of percentage is obviously a hue, ie a secondary color which, however, may change depending on the illumination, natural or artificial. Moreover, there is no general rule on dimensions and prices: some tourmalines are found only in small sizes and are used as beads in a very low cost, while others are more available in 10 or more carats. The evaluation also takes account of its clarity, which has three degrees defined by the Gia (Gemological Institute of America, the most famous center of research and teaching mineralogy of the United States): if the green tourmaline is usually classified type I, that means, has a slight inclusion visible to the naked eye, blue, orange, yellow, multi-color (except watermelon varieties) and some pink specimens stones have minor inclusions and are grade II, while the red ones , pink and watermelon belong to the third category III where noticeable inclusions are expect ed as it appears from the photos below. Tourmaline is normally not subjected to heat treatment and if this happens does not affect its value.

You can borrow Emily’s words to comment on Piaget’s new not-new collection of fine jewelry. New because it offers jewelry never seen, not new because it returns to the theme of Sunlight Escape, proposed last year. As Emily Dickinson said: chase it not, and it abides.
The theme around which the Sunlight Escape II is built is described as a “frozen, snowy and mysterious landscape, illuminated by the glistening sun of a winter sky, always inspired by the bold beauty of nature in its most fascinating”.

The poetry of the description turns into 17 new jewels distributed over three chapters: Warming Lights, Exalting Sights and Dancing Nights.

Needless to say, to make pieces of this kind, the Maison de Genève has appealed to all the skills of its artisans, as well as to the creativity of the designers.

Warming Lights
Piaget is not just jewelry, but also watches. And also watches-jewelry. And here is Sun White watch, a tribute to the winter sun. As the sun’s rays illuminate the icy plains, so the precious rays of 12 white diamonds in the shape of kites and 81 brilliant-cut diamonds are mixed with hand-decorated baguettes in white gold, radiating from a central mother-of-pearl dial. A piece that if not for sale would go in a museum dedicated to the most extraordinary jewels.

Exalting Sights
In this line is Frosted Star, a rigid bracelet inspired by the symmetrical compositions of snowflakes and their infinite iterations. The cuff features a 5.12 carat cushion cut Madagascar sapphire, surrounded by eight squared black opals. Diamonds in four different cuts radiate further before the engraver shows their historic Piaget know-how in a new frost version of the Palace Décor signature.
Also in this line and always in honor of pure snow, there is an elegant sautoir of white opals, pearls of the southern sea and white diamonds, on white gold. The necklace combines the iridescence of opals, the brilliance of pearls and the sparkle of diamonds to achieve a harmonious effect, with a large crystal of snow in the center.

It’s a tribute to the Northern Lights, one of the most extraordinary shows of nature. As in the first series of Sunlight Escape, Piaget continues his creative collaboration with the inlay artist Rose Saneuil. The result is Green Aurora an exceptional bracelet with a delicately varied palette that reflects the extraordinary shades of the Northern Lights. The bracelet is made of tiny straw shards, Sycamore and Common Hornbeam: a very refined technique is required to bend the inlay around the contours of the cuff. At the center of the radiant design are an indigo tourmaline of over 14 carats, a rare and beautiful crystal from Namibia. Imaginative marquetry
More generally, for the Sunlight Escape collection, Piaget underlines also the collaboration with Rose Saneuil, Maître d’Art of marquetry, who has worked for the first time in the creation of three high jewelery creations. Exalting Sight
It celebrates the jewels by celebrating the pleasure of observing them. Here is Exalting Sights that, in Piaget’s intentions, is also a praise to nature. It should not be forgotten that this high-end jewelery line is part of the Sunlight Escape collection, linked to images of elusive, ambiguous, crepuscular lights. Like those of the countries of the North, where in summer the day never sets and in winter the light is fleeting. In Piaget’s gaze there is, therefore, a collier with an abstract graphic design that presents gems with different shades of blue (lapis lazuli, Paraiba tourmaline and aquamarine), which collide with waves of brilliant cut diamonds. Always in a winter atmosphere is conceived the watch in white gold and diamonds is colored by a coarse cut emerald of 1.8 carats and marquise cut emeralds, while two waves of diamonds close around the blue night sea created with lapis lazuli that form the dial of another timepiece. Remember an iceberg ring with brilliant cut diamonds on white gold embellished with a large fancy cabochon cut by 24.73 carats.
Other exceptional pieces of Exalting Sight: an 18.88 carat emerald is the heart of a necklace surrounded by diamonds of various sizes and worked gold. The green also shines in a cascade necklace with drops and satin elements embellished with a 7.50 carat emerald. Another model with brilliant-cut, fancy-cut pavé embraces the neck, displaying a deep blue sapphire.

Sunlight Escape, a new large collection of fine jewelry from Piaget. First part ♦ ︎

Let’s start from here: Piaget owns the largest jewelery workshop in Geneva. Thus, when the Swiss Maison presents its collections of fine jewelry, also the expectation is high. As high as the sun shining in the sky and suggesting the theme of the new collection of fine jewelry. in 2017 the super jewelry collection was called Sunlight Journey. In 2018 here is Sunlight Escape. Rays of the sun, light, brilliance. But also sunset, fugitive light, bright night. In short, around the concept you can embroider and, above all, create a high-end jewelry that is at the top of the world rankings. Sunlight Escape, in its radiant ambiguity, is embodied in the Piaget collection in a series of exceptional jewels and jewelry-watches.
The Sunlight Escape collection consists, in fact, of three lines of jewelry: Warming Lights, Exalting Sights, and Dancing Nights. From Piaget the three lines are defined as follows: Warming Lights, light captured and diffused through shapes and materials such as pink and yellow gold and diamonds. Exalting Sights focus on what is truly spectacular through the unique skills of the Maison Piaget. Dancing Nights, a whirlwind of asymmetric forms united in a fascinating fluid movement. The gem setting
Piaget, rightly, puts the accent on the goldsmith technique used for these jewels. The setting of the gem, explains Piaget, for example, is a demanding technique that requires patience, precision and dexterity. The task must be carried out perfectly to ensure that the setting of the precious stone is strong and stable. “An art form in the true sense of the term implies transcending techniques to create an absolute impression of brilliance”. A particularly refined technique is the “serti descendu” or “reduction setting”, which provides a particular shine to the stone. Feather marquetry
“In its incomparable delicacy and harmony, there is something transcendental in the work of the feather artist, Nelly Saunier,” explains Piaget. Winner of the Prix Liliane Bettencourt for the Intelligence de la Main, she was a natural choice for Piaget to collaborate on Sunlight Escape. For this collection of fine jewelry Nelly Saunier has created a series of four exceptional creations in the form of earrings and hoses that evoke a snowy landscape illuminated by the penetrating rays of the sun. As only a Maître d’Art can do, Nelly Saunier brings together the art of feathers and the art of gold. A composition of pure white feathers is brilliantly contrasted with rose gold leaves, creating the sparkling effect of the icy snow that shines in the warm rays of the sun.

The Palace decoration
The Palace decoration is an engraving technique inspired by the Haute Couture and which provides a handmade guilloché process with veins that give the surface the appearance of raw silk. The result is, in fact, similar to a fabric with an inimitable radiance capable of accentuating the brilliance of precious stones. This engraving process is a traditional Piaget technique for which the Maison has been famous for a long time. With the combination of diamond polishing and setting, these High Jewelry creations move the boundaries of skills and creativity. An essential element of the Sunlight Escape collection, the Midnight Sun necklace shows the Palace decoration in all its splendor with marquise cut diamonds that naturally guide the gaze towards the deep intensity of the green of a large central emerald.

Sunlight Journey, a secret diary of sunlight shining on the Amalfi Coast. Piaget has so called his new jewelery collection. And what is better than light to spark a jewel? The sun’s rays, however, are not always the same: from morning till sunset the sensations that communicate the bright waves are different. So the collection was divided according to the different moments of the day and the light. And to show what Piaget calls the “sun moods”, the brand of Richemont group has organized at Cinecittà in Rome an event for a celebrity audience, from Claudia Cardinale to Juliette Binoche, models like Barbara Palvin, Coco Rocha, Shanina Shaik and Cheyenne Tozzi, welcomed by Piaget’s Ceo, Chabi Nouri. On the other hand, sun, cinema and Piaget are a triad that is reflected in each other: not surprisingly, Piaget’s Sunlight Journey collection was among the stars of the Cannes Film Festival.

A pair of blue diamonds and a rose sold by Sotheby’s for a record $ 57.4 million. And it is also a record for a Piaget ring ♦
A mythological record. To mark a new star price for jewels were Apollo and Artemide. No, they are not the gods of Olympus, but divinity of jewelery: Apollo and Artemis enchanted the sale of Sotheby Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels in Geneva. The two diamonds got the best price ever on auction for a pair of earrings: $ 57.4 million. The buyer (for now anonymous) has subsequently renamed them. The fancy vivid blue diamond is now called The Memory of Autumn Leaves, while the intense pink fancy has been named The Dream of Autumn Leaves.

A pretty expensive poem. The two diamonds were sold separately. The vivid blue fancy, 14.54 carats, for 42 million, while the pink diamonds, 16 carats, for 15, 4 million. «It has been a privilege for Sotheby’s to be entrusted with the superb Apollo Blue and Artemis Pink, which have now been renamed The Memory of Autumn Leaves and The Dream of Autumn Leaves», commented David Bennett, world president of the international jewelery department and chairman of Sotheby’s Switzerland. «The results from today’s sale – which saw more than 90 per cent of lots sold and three new world auction records – yet again underline the strong demand for top quality diamonds, gemstones and jewels. I am delighted that the stones will remain together as earrings. This has been a wonderful inaugural jewellery sale at Mandarin Oriental, Geneva which far exceeded expectations, with a total of over $150 million. We are greatly looking forward to the upcoming auction of Fine Jewels at Sotheby’s rue Diday in Geneva on the 1st of June».
The purple color
As mentioned by Bennet, in fact, the auction marked a third record. An intense purplish pink fancy, 7.04-carat yellow, mounted on a Piaget ring, was awarded for $ 13.3 million, with a price tag of 1.9 million.
Lots 272 – 326 were also highly appreciated, including a private collection with precious pieces and gems of great value: they were sold for 15.9 million double the estimate. 96% of these lots were sold. A 32.42-carat-shaped pear-shaped Harry Winston diamond doubled its estimate and was sold for $ 3.3 million. An emerald ring, always of Harry Winston, has quadrupled its estimate to $ 929,465. A brooch with rubies and diamond sets and a pair of Van Cleef & Arpels clip earrings totaled $ 477,551. Federico Graglia
