Marco Bicego in chains with Jaipur

Jaipur is the capital of the Indian state of Rajasthan, the 10th most populous city in the country. It is also known as the pink city due to the dominant color scheme of its historic buildings. And some even call it the Paris of India. Finally, Jaipur is also the name of a historic collection by Marco Bicego, who was inspired by the Indian city for the mix of colored stones used for the jewels. Until now. Because the Jaipur collection, which has become one of the most successful of the Venetian Maison, has been renewed over time without eliminating the combination of gems and gold. Now, however, he adds pieces in simple yellow metal.

Jaipur is renewed through the classic form of the chain. What distinguishes Marco Bicego’s intertwined rings? Irregular shapes, a satin finish and links of different sizes joined together. The gold, as in the other pieces of the brand, is engraved by hand by master craftsmen with the ribbed burin technique, which adds a slightly irregular finish to the surfaces. Just like the ancient havelis of Jaipur.

A little color with Armiss

Armiss is an acronym of the name of the team that two years ago gave life to the brand: Arianna, Michele, Silvia and Stefania. Michele Elettro, with thirty years of experience as a goldsmith in Valenza (Italy), in 2004 founded his first atelier, Modellart, which worked on behalf of established jewelry brands. Silvia Raselli, on the other hand, has a professional experience with Damiani behind her and, before that, a diploma as a gemologist at Gia in New York. They are the two engines of the creative side of Armiss. The brand, born in the period of the pandemic, perhaps for this reason is proposed as a cheerful reaction to the gloomy atmosphere of that period.

Armiss’s jewels are of quality, in gold and diamonds, or semi-precious stones such as malachite, but also a touch of color thanks to the enamel inserts, which make the production of the young Maison suitable for forgetting the sadness and misunderstandings that accompany the life. A touch of vivacity that, without being excessive, can be in tune with the style of those who love to get out of the usual patterns.

Jack Vartanian’s Gems

The glam jewels of the Brazilian designer Jack Vartanian

Brazil has long been one of the countries with the largest number of high-end jewelers, perhaps also thanks to the gem mines found in some areas. This is why a small group of designers has grown up capable of making the eyes of many women shine beyond the borders of Brazil. One of these is Jack Vartanian, who founded his brand in San Paolo in 1999. Born in Beirut into a family of Armenian origin (he has a brother, Ara Vartanian, also a jewelry designer, but with whom he has broken up relations for years), who traded in precious stones, he moved to Brazil when he was two years old. and has continued in the wake of tradition.

Gold and black rhodium are thus combined with black and white diamonds, emeralds, rubies and sapphires. If you look at the ears, necks and hands of celebrities like Kate Moss, Emma Stone and Miley Cyrus to Sofia Vergara and Jennifer Lopez, you might find a piece of jewelry created by Jack Vartanian. The long journeys alongside his father in search of the best stones were his university. Now he re-evaluates that period, the seventies and eighties, which are still a source of inspiration for his collections. In which pieces that reflect the spirit of those years often stand out, such as the ring and bracelet in gold and black leopard spots, to be exhibited perhaps in pairs. Or the tourmalines composed to form a “z”. Which is a letter from the word Brazil.

Wendy Brandes pop in gold

The pop, hip-hop and post punk style in gold and platinum by Wendy Brandes ♦ ︎

Wendy Brandes started as a reporter at the Wall Street Journal, then worked at CNN and was the editorial director of the People magazine website. Finally, she changed her life and moved into jewelry design in New York. Not only. Some time ago she introduced an innovative sales system for her jewelry: Wendy Brandes Concierge. The idea was to offer a particular piece of jewelry to a retailer without obligation, which she can choose from the catalog. In one city, the jeweler who accepts the proposal obtains the exclusivity of the brand. A customer then has the opportunity to purchase the jewel in the shop. If, however, no purchase is made, the jewel is returned to Wendy at no additional cost. Wendy is also committed to providing informational support via the web regarding her collections. But currently this type of partnership seems to be shelved.

And the style of the jewels? It’s easy to say: pop, post punk, hip-hop style. The line is divided into three distinct collections, inspired by the unique qualities of specific precious metals, but linked by the definition of jewelry for witty people: Wendy Brandes gold, Wendy Brandes platinum and Wendy Brandes silver.

Pandora Signature is now in 14K gold

From jewels in silver only, to those in gold-plated silver, up to a line made of 14 karat gold: Pandora has now entered the category of fine jewelry. Witness the Pandora Signature collection, which now presents itself for the first time with 14-karat gold jewelry. The style, shape and basic idea are the same as the jewels of the Signature collection, presented for the first time four years ago, with curved lines and an immediate brand recognition, with the logo engraved in a clearly visible way in the metal. Obviously, in this version, 14-karat gold also increases the value of the jewel.

Diamond hunt with Dipoi

A line of rings with hidden diamonds: the minimal idea of Korean brand Dipoi ♦ ︎
Lord Brummel, the British nobleman who invented the character of the dandy, fashionable, but refined man, in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, obliged the butler to to wearing his new shoes for a few days. In this way, after he could wear them without they seems new, an ostentation of wealth he considered as vulgar. In short, the exact opposite of what is happening today through Instagram or Facebook, where everyone is ready to shake the signs of their own agility, purchases and travels. To exhibit, emphasize, boast, are not recommended also by all religions and by the tradition of Oriental culture, which prefers minimal, low profile, understatement.

Anello in oro giallo e diamanti Hidden Treasure
Anello in oro giallo e diamanti Hidden Treasure

In jewelry it is rare that luxury is underlined. The more precious a stone is, the more it is enhanced by the jewel and left to shine, whether on a ring, a pair of earrings or a necklace. With some exceptions, however. The most surprising is the choice of a Korean designer brand, Dipoi. Korea is in fashion and Maison Seoul has designed a jewelry line, Hidden Treasure, which hides diamonds. A solitaire, for example, is made in reverse: the stone is hidden and mounted within the gold band. The idea is certainly out of the ordinary. In addition to rings, Dipoi has decided to extend the concept to pendants and earrings: diamonds are there, but you have to look for them.

Vanryck’s Parisian minimalism

A designer with a name of Portuguese origin, Lise Ferreira, for the Nordic design of Vanryck, who however is a Parisian Maison. From this mix comes the simple and clean, yet elegant style of the brand that focuses on lightness, with some additions of modern flair. Vanryck’s jewels are in gold and diamonds, but without emphasis on the preciousness of metal and stones. The accent is, however, on the minimalist geometry that fits well with the sophisticated taste of Parisian women.

Lise Ferreira, on the other hand, was born and raised in Paris, where she studied Fine Arts, and she knows the taste of women in the French capital well, although she cares about remembering her family origins in the Portuguese Algarve. Why, then, does your brand have such a Nordic name? Here is the explanation: Vanryck is a nickname for her husband and comes from the North of France. The designer’s first jewels are from the nineties, but today Vanryck is a consolidated company, which sells its jewels all over the world.

New Pandora Signature Bracelets

New designs in the Pandora Signature collection. It is one of the most successful collections of the Danish brand, launched for the first time in 2018. Since then the Pandora Signature collection has seen several changes, which have largely changed its design, renewing it. In short, the signature has remained the same, but the contents have changed a bit, without upsetting the design. Indeed, the new jewels represent, in the Pandora idea, a logical evolution of the first Signature bracelet, which has become a symbol of the collection.

The bracelets, as in the first edition of the collection, are still distinguished by the Pandora logo, clearly engraved on the metal. The Signature wrist jewelry is now a closed bracelet, with a finer silhouette characterized by a pavé of cubic zirconia. The bracelet design was also used for a ring. The jewels are available in different finishes, such as rose gold plating and silver.

The hi-tech gold of Nuovi Gioielli

In 1985, in Mussolente, a small town in the province of Vicenza, Ivano Torresan and Giovanni Berton founded Nuovi Gioielli. It is a goldsmith company that produces high quality jewelry also for third parties. And that aims to use technology to get the best out of it. Of course, the image of the craftsman who creates an elaborate jewel on his own remains fascinating. But if a month of work is needed to obtain a jewel, that piece will also be unique in cost. Nuovi Gioielli has sought an intermediate way: to maintain quality by adopting new production systems.

Gold, colored stones and diamonds are used with the same imagination as a DIY jeweler, but made with innovative tools. An example? Laser Metal Fusion, that is metal 3D printing, which according to Nuovi Gioielli has the greatest potential for development and growth. The device is based on a high intensity laser, which selectively melts the metal powders according to a path defined by the Cad design and creates three-dimensional metal objects, from steel to bronze, or gold and platinum. Technology like this joins other more traditional ones or always with advanced systems, such as numerical control machines, which allow you to produce perfect jewels, without errors during the realization phase.

The gold of Loto Preziosi

In the Italian gold district, in the Arezzo area, Loto Preziosi is one of the companies with the greatest tradition: in fact, it is about to turn half a century. Almost 50 years ago Giuseppe Aramini has founded, together with his wife, the company specialized in the processing of jewelry, especially gold. The company’s specialty, which is now led by the son of the founder, Tiziano Aramini, is a vast assortment of earrings, chokers, bracelets and brooches, pendants, rings, parures with and without semi-precious stones and super-light articles.

Loto Preziosi, however, has become famous above all for earrings with semiprecious stones, which have helped popularize the brand and gain the consensus that has allowed the company to grow. The production of gold jewelry places the company among the main realities of the Arezzo district. But not only for the ability to mass-produce jewels: his best pieces, for example, manage to be selected among the design creations, as happened in spring with a bracelet that won a Premiére a OroArezzo, in the category Creativity, art and Sculpture.

Indeed, it can be said that gold is the absolute protagonist. But it is a way to a rock-gold: the jewels of London designer can also be worn in a Coachella concert, although they aren’t hippie.

The new Tiffany Lock bracelets

/

New Tiffany bracelets. They are those of the Lock collection, a line launched in August. The new collection debuts with four rigid gold bangle, with models also with pavé diamonds. They are bracelets that, in intentions, are gender fluid, in the wake of the undifferentiated proposal for the wearer.

Tiffany Lock is an elegant interpretation of functional archival design, defined by clean, modern lines and a revolutionary locking mechanism. Tiffany Lock represents an exciting new pillar to our diamond and gold jewelry offering. We are thrilled to unveil our latest icon.

The bracelets are made of 18-karat yellow and pink gold and, as the images of Mario Sorrenti and Raymond Meier with model Imaan Hammam and skateboarder Tyshawn Jones also confirm, they are designed for everyone. The idea is that of a padlock bracelet, with an allusion to the handcuffs genre. The closure features an innovative swivel mechanism that incorporates the functionality of a padlock.

Before the 1950s, in fact, Tiffany also offered real padlocks: key rings, money clips, brooches and necklaces featured design elements that evoked padlocks. Over the past 20 years, the lock pattern has continued to evolve in collections such as Return to Tiffany and Tiffany HardWear. The four Tiffany Lock bracelets are priced in the US between $ 6,800 and $ 32,000, but more models will be launched starting next January.

Brooke Gregson’s jewelry

London-and Los Angele based designer Brooke Gregson: high-end jewelry with a mysterious flavor. ♦

Brooke Gregson was born in Los Angeles and works between London and California. The designer became famous among the emerging jewelers on the banks of the Thames thanks to a collection dedicated to the constellations, between astrology and astronomy, followed by many others in which the protagonists are colored gems. The Astrology collection is composed of simple pendants in brushed gold, on which small diamonds mark the lines that make up the constellations of the zodiac. It is no coincidence: the designer has in fact also studied astronomy, in addition to the classic gemology that was used to revolutionize the proposal of her collections.

Another collection that has been successful, in fact, is called Planetary, and is also based in this case to the stars, with Martians earrings and crescent moons. Nothing bizarre, you know: also in this case the jewelry is gold and and diamonds, absolutely terrestrial. Another trail route from Brooke is that of silk combined with large stones: there are so several bracelets in which this material is interwoven with gold and combines with large stones like emeralds and diamonds. Speaking of stones: another feature of the brand is to propose unusual cuts, even irregular. Like Nefertiti necklace with a large opal skewed framed by gold and diamonds (it costs 8255 pounds). Her jewelry can be found in some world class shopping in the UK, USA, France, Germany, Japan and Dubai.

The fairtrade jewelry by Hattie Rickards

/

The fantasies of Hattie Rickards, a British jewelery brand specializing in bespoke jewels ♦ ︎

The look on British design of the jewelry is inevitably posed on the ethical aspect linked to the use of sustainable materials and produced with respect for human dignity: she thinks so too Hattie Rickards, young and appreciated artisan in the panorama of London, crowded of signatures. After the design school, Hattie has taken the first steps working for Solange Azagury Partridge and Kara Ross. Then, you are putting on their own, emphasizing the ethical aspect: the gold used by the designers is to fairtrade, that is not harmful for the environment and for those who work it back out.

But this issue does not involve compromises with the creation of their own lines of jewelry. Personal, original and craftsmanship: these are three adjectives are abused in the world of jewelry. The right definition for Hattie is, however, passionate. A certain geometry or, better, a simplicity in the forms, is mitigated by the choice of the stones and their combination with gold. Eventually stem from pieces look nice, pretty precious to tempt, but not overly opulent as to arouse curiosity only.

Elhanati’s jewels

/

The combination of a style of jewelry between Israel and Denmark is quite rare. But this is what sums up Orit Elhanati, designer who inaugurated his business with her own brand in 2012. The mix between Middle Eastern and Scandinavian heritage takes the form of jewels that add the clean lines of Nordic design with talismanic suggestions. It’s also merit (and is not the only case) of a jewelry-loving grandmother, who showed they to little Orit during the summers in Tel Aviv.

Elhanati’s jewels are handmade in Denmark on 18-karat gold with textured or rough surfaces, with the addition of diamonds, opals, rubies, emeralds and sapphires. But among the sources of inspiration are also the works of Henri Matisse. Or the most famous cities in the world, which become necklaces in the Small Worlds collection: they are pendants for necklaces imagined as open windows on the skyline. For her imagination, the designer in 2015 won the Elle prize for her ability to innovate the aesthetics of jewelry.

Palwer, precision in Venice

/

Among the beautiful things in Venice there are also the jewels of the designer Alessandro Palwer. Here are some examples ♦

Gold, diamonds and rope in the bracelets and necklaces of the Venetian designer Alessandro Palwer. That works precisely on the shapes and volumes of a contemporary classic such as chain links, with elements with clean, rounded or elongated lines, in pink gold and brown diamonds, shiny yellow gold, white gold and gray diamonds. The result? Elegant, yet informal and easy to wear jewelry, that transversal understatement of fashions that makes people ask: “Nice, where did you buy it?”. In short, the maximum of chic. Palwer’s jewels are very different from each other: from the collection inspired by drops of water with moonstones and diamonds, to smoky emerald cut quartz mounted on an intricate combination of curves, to the splendor of the mirrored surfaces.

The designer has an uncommon story: he was born and raised in Rome, but then he focused on Paris, where he worked with Parisian fashion brands and was also creative director of Ungaro for over ten years. Not happy, he also founded a furniture and accessories company: Suite 307. In addition, he also created costumes for many opera productions. But then he decided to move to Venice and design refined jewels, with a rigorous design.

Baiyang on the fancy wire

/

The intricate draws of jewelry designed by Baiyang Qiu, a goldsmith of Chinese origin who works in the United States ♦

The roads of design run more and more globally: fantasy has no boundaries. And it does not even have Baiyang Qiu, a goldsmith of Chinese origin who works in the United States, in San Jose, California. Despite being active only for a few years, she has already received several awards (the latest at the Couture Show in Las Vegas 2016) and her work has been described in numerous publications, including the book «The Art of Jewelry: plastic and resin».

Baiyang Qiu has a very personal style: all the jewels are made using very fine gold or platinum, which form jewels that seem wrapped in a spider’s web. In order to make these jewels both light and strong, and to take surfaces of unprecedented curves, Baiyang uses a combination of traditional methods and new technologies. The design of such jewels, on the other hand, can only come first through software and special precision instruments. In short, the mechanics subject to the imagination, but capable of giving dreams and reflections that the normal craft work can not achieve. And also this is jewelry design.

Journey into matter with Emanuela Duca

//

Emanuela Duca and her jewels with roots in Rome and work in New York, between the call of the earth and fantasy.

From Rome to New York: a journey that millions of tourists and a few designers travel. Among these, there is Emanuela Duca, who from the capital of Italy has moved permanently to the capital of the American East Coast, New York, indeed, Manhattan and, now in the Hudson Valley. Even if she now lives and works in the Big Apple, she keeps her roots in the artistic culture of the Peninsula and often returns to Rome, where she followed her training path. She graduated from the Art School of Rome, and then from the European Institute of Design. Not only that: in addition to jewelry, Emanuela was involved in dance, painting and sculpture. Almost a Renaissance artist, when the divisions between the different artistic skills were subtle.

The jewels of her new Colibrì collection retain his style and the echo of her origin: works that evoke volcanic ash and the ancient ruins of his Rome. But transformed by the efficient New York air. In short, almost a bridge between antiquity and modernity. The jewels are first carved in wax, then forged with sterling silver and 18-carat yellow gold, shaped and manipulated until they find the right shape. Her technique is so personal that her jewels have also been exhibited and sold at the Smithsonian, the Philadelphia Museum of Arts Crafts or the Museum of Art and Design in New York.

The embroideries of Laurent Gandini

//

In Milan, a designer who follows the popular tradition of ex votos and interprets it in a refined way: Laurent Gandini ♦

The popular tradition, like that of ex-votos (precious objects that are found in Catholic churches for a grace received from some saint) is transformed into jewels: Laurent Gandini is a designer who loves the present looking to the past. He lives and works in Milan since 1990, with a style in contrast to the minimalism of many of his colleagues. Gandini takes inspiration from the folk tradition  but, of course, reworked to create very complex jewelry, which require a long and precise work. Symbols and myths have become metal embroidery, precious lace that make earrings, necklaces or rings.

They are not only related to the sacred environment, but also from profane superstition or, perhaps, the nineteenth-century iconography. It is almost obvious that such jewelry is the result of a work which is also anchored to the past, from the traditional manual realization, through the technique of lost wax. Farewell galvanization: here files are used on the metal, and the stones are popular ones, such as rock crystal. Prices: it depends on the version of the jewelry, if silver or gold. For example, a pair of earrings in silver filigree cost 350 Euros, while for the same model, but in gold, you go up to 1350 euro.
