Noor Fares

The inspirations of Noor Fares

/

Noor Fares, a refined jewelry designer, married the artist and businessman Alexandre Al Khawam in 2015, with whom she had a child. She lives in Belgravia, an exclusive district of London. Not only. She comes from a wealthy family: her father is Issam Michael Fares, a Lebanese businessman, former member of parliament and deputy prime minister of Lebanon. Noor’s happy life also includes a childhood in Paris, studies of art history in Boston and gemology in London, where he earned a master’s degree in jewelry design from Central Saint Martins with a thesis focused on the importance of fiction in jewelry.

A lucky story, which is hardly the result of the subsequent series of evil eye necklaces made by her Maison. The Lebanese designer is more linked to the symbols of the Indian tradition, with jewels that are inspired by the symbols of the chakras or ancient designs related to meditation. The transparencies of the stones, the geometries with oriental motifs, the references to a spiritual and magical dimension are her guides in the composition of her collections.

A design jewelery lottery for Beirut

Six other jewelry designers have decided to help the Lebanese population after the blast in the port of Beirut that caused over 200 deaths, 7,000 injuries and severe damage to much of the city’s infrastructure. The jewelers are all independent and linked to the Auverture website, founded by Bibi van der Velden. Some of them also have Lebanese roots, such as Gaelle Khouri, Noor Fares and Selim Mouzannar. Together with them there are also Daniela Villegas, Alice Cicolini and Bibi van der Velden.

The idea is quite original: a lottery that gives away six jewels. Virtual tickets to participate in the lottery cost 50 euros, dollars or pounds. We must hurry, however, because they can only be purchased until August 16th. The winners of the lottery will be chosen on August 17th with a draw. and can be purchased via a special page on the Auverture website.

The jewels donated are of different types, but among them there is one that is particularly in tune with the Lebanese tragedy. This is the I Have a Dream ring by Gaelle Khouri in 18k yellow gold, bronze, white diamonds, pink sapphires and tsavorites, made in Lebanon: it represents a carved mutilated hand that symbolizes the suffering of Lebanese citizens that began with the civil war in 1975 .

The new dreams of Noor Fares

The new jewels by Noor Fares, awarded at the Couture Design Awards 2019 ♦ ︎

The year 2019 must have a particular astral ascendant for Noor Fares, a Lebanese designer (her father is a former deputy prime minister of Lebanon), born in Paris and residing in London. She is convinced that supernatural forces act alongside daily reality, and must have probably thought that the triumph at Couture in Las Vegas is not a coincidence. The designer won, in fact, in the Best in Colored Gemstones Below $ 20,000 category at the Couture Design Awards. In fact, she certainly does not lack creativity, perhaps due to her family origins.

Hala, her mother, was an artist known for his inclination to wear mismatched shoes. The grandmother was a creative and aunt Sonia Fares a fashion designer as well as former Miss Lebanon. The aesthetic research of the British naturalized designer is linked to the belief that stones also bring positive energy, as in the Prana collection, which follows the Chakra collection. The jewels always are uses stones in a creative way, but also in a vaguely alien way, as if they were the result of the work of a designer who has just arrived on Earth. Perhaps this is why they won the Las Vegas jury. Giulia Netrese

Muzo’s emeralds at 25 designers

/

Muzo’s emeralds for 25 designers and one hundred surprising jewels. Here is the result ♦ ︎

Put the children of colored pencils in childrens hands and you will see them draw. Give to a mechanic to screwdriver and the car will be dismantled. Distribute emeralds to a group of designers and you will see surprising jewels. This is what the Colombian mining company Muzo Emerald has done. The initiative is not strange: periodically, the mining companies give to designers their gems to special work.

Muzo has thus delivered emeralds to 25 jewelers including Alexandra Mor, Coomi, Daniela Villegas, Erica Courtney, Kimberly McDonald, Lisa Kim, Mateo, Noor Fares, Selim Mouzannar, Spencer Fine Jewelry, Victor Velyan and Wilfredo Rosado.

Sandra Dixon, The Serpent Goddess Earrings
Sandra Dixon, The Serpent Goddess Earrings

Result: a series of jewels that use emeralds in a very modern way. To be clear: no rings with an emerald with emerald cut. Also because the green stones have different shades and qualities. In all, a hundred pieces of different value were conceived. It ranges from about $ 2,000, to the Selim Mouzannar necklace which costs almost $ 120,000. And, according to Muzo, the experiment will continue: 2019 will be a bright green year. Margherita Donato

Those shoes are jewels

Shoes-jewel designed by five jewelry designers for Aquazzura: a strange experiment ♦ ︎

Gioiellis.com is a vertical site: it writes, that is, about only one topic, the jewels. For once, however, we make an exception, but only partially. Because we talk about Sabine Getty, Noor Fares, Eugenie Niarchos, Anissa Kermiche and Ana Khouri: all jewelry designers, all young, cute and full of creativity. All, however, were called to express their imagination with another type of accessory: shoes.

For Net-a-porter Edgardo Osorio asked the designers to design a pair of shoes for the Aquazzura brand.

By Sabine Getty
By Sabine Getty

In some cases, as was reasonable to expect, they are shoes that do not forget the main activity of the designer, that of jewelry. In other cases it is less experimental and more traditional shoes. The form, in short, also reflects the style that designers express with their jewels. For example, the Memphis Wave motif of Sabine Getty, which was made of crystals, with the perspex strap. Noor Fares, instead, preferred to focus on a special heel, covered with a pavé. But perhaps the shoe that is most noticeable is that of Anissa Kermiche with a heel made up of three gold and pearl hoops. Price: $ 1,152. Giulia Netrese

Noor Fares Superlunary

The organic forms, between nature and laboratory, in the Superlunary collection by Noor Fares ♦ ︎

There are those who believe that the stones possess the power to project magical influences. Among those fascinated by this idea is Noor Fares, a Parisian designer of Lebanese origins. The curious aspect, however, is another: for the new Superlunary collection, Noor Fares has chosen to work with synthetic stones as well. Will the opals born in the laboratory have magical powers? Who knows. “In Superlunary, I work with natural materials and with those born in the laboratory, but essentially the healing properties of the stones are still there, because they concern the intention as much as the material”, argues the designer.
In any case, the collection has an original approach to jewelry. So much so that in order to create Superlunary, the designer turned to Flavie Audi, a specialist artist in glass working, her childhood friend. Together with her, Noor conceived the irregular shapes of the stones, which are inspired by those of the organic world, through 3D design. Synthetic opals, resin, rock crystal (natural) and gold are the main elements of Superlunary. “It was a challenge to work with organic forms, rather than rigid lines and geometries, and create organic fluidity in a stone,” explained Noor Fares. In any case, whether they are made of synthetic or natural stones, jewels have the undoubted advantage of originality. Giulia Netrese

The spirals of Noor Fares

/

The spiritual spirals by Noor Fares in the Navratna collection ♦ ︎
There are those who are content to design jewelry. There are those who are content to wear jewelry. And there are those who, like Noor Fares, draw and wear jewels because they think that talismans, symbols and traditions are closely linked to human nature. That is, that the stones possess supernatural powers, the forged metal in a certain form can give peace, tranquility and keep away evil spirits, and so on. No ancient form of spirituality is forgotten by the Lebanese designer who grew up in Paris and emigrated to London. At the recent Design Room of VicenzaOro January, for example, Noor Fares presented, among other things, the Navratna collection. The name is that of a work in Sanskrit (ancient Indian language) which means “nine gems” and that, says the designer, it is said to provide an astrological balance and benefits the wearer. What kind of benefits and what kind of balance can only be said by those who try to wear the jewels of the collection. For those who are more skeptical, however, it may remain the pleasure to choose earrings, ring and necklaces that draw enveloping spirals or crescent. Gold, diamonds, stones like carnelian or garnet are the materials used by Noor Fares for Navratna. Prices: on average about 2000 to 4000 pounds. Margherita Donato

Noor Fares is spiritual

The spiritual jewels of the Akash collection by Noor Fares.
Spiritual jewelry. But above all jewelry with personality. The new collection of Noor Fares, Akasha, is inspired by the symbols of Hinduism, as the Sri Yantra. The name comes from a word in ancient Sanskrit, the symbol used in meditation to balance and focus the mind. For the truth now will be in focus even a little ‘of female vanity. The geometric shapes of the collection using white diamonds, white topaz, iolite, green tourmaline, rubelite to draw triangles, circles and diamonds with a soft hypnotic effect. “Spirituality has always been a personal interest, I do a lot of research, I’m interested in different attributes of the stones,” said the Lebanese designer, but with atelier in London. Even if you are not particularly interested in doing meditation while are watching a ring or earrings, in any case, this collection can have a beneficial effect on the spirit, even if a bit ‘less on the portfolio (a pair of earrings costs about 9,000 Euros).
The collection inspired by Indian religious philosophy could also be the effect after a year of marriage: the designer, in fact, she married Alexandre Al Khawam, an entrepreneur in the field of art and finance. The ceremony, celebrated in Normandy, has had media coverage, in part because the party for the wedding was organized with great luxury and Arabic style in the family estate (the theme was One Thousand and One Nights). Many of the celebrities present, as Andrea Casiraghi, Beatrice Borromeo, Pierre Casiraghi, Eugenie Niarchos, Dana Alikhani, Margherita Missoni, Bianca Brandolini D’Adda, the designer Mary Katrantzou. Who knows if now they will buy the new jewelry collection. Lavinia Andorno

Eugenie Niarchos dives into the Oseanyx

Eugenie Niarchos deserts the earth and let Reptilia (her collection dedicated to reptiles), to dive into the sea with the third jewelery collection of the brand Venyx, named Oseanyx. A fantastic and whimsical  underwater world, this is the key style of the Greek designer, inhabited by mysterious and hybrid creatures: there is an imaginary tiger-ray fish and the depth of the abysses is captured in detail the tail of the feline that looks like a Tribal accessory, the paw of the bear hunting fishes, shells symbol of Venus, which obviously have nothing of Botticelli’s classicism, but instead suggest tropical seas with multicolored stones. And, again, a golden parrot fish with a star between the fins. Because cosmos is one of the favorite themes of Niarchos, here too in this collection proposes star pendants earrings with Akoya pearls,  and adds Lunoor, a half-moon with a human face as in fairy tales, originally designed for the wedding of her best friend Noor Fares, a jewelry designer too. Gold is never polished: brushed or rippled like waves or chiseled like the lunar seas. In short, the in Venyx’s universe there is no boundary between heaven, land and sea.

Pythagorean Noor Fares

Noor Fares is a designer of Lebanese descent. She was born and raised in Paris, and after she moved to London. If you are looking jewelry different from others and you like the geometry, Noor Fares is the right person. No coincidence that his first collection was called Geometry 101. Pendants, earrings and rings based on pure volumes, spheres that enclosed by virtual surfaces, bounded by straight lines. In short, the Pythagorean theorem transfigured for jewelry. Rock crystal and moonstone are tied with threads of gold, and diamonds pavé. The second collection of designer, Fly Me to the Moon, is made with pink agate worked to chisel, evolved into soft shapes, curves, like the wings that turn into earrings. Then, it followed by additional lines of jewelry, such as the collection Tilsam, with crystal balls surrounded by diamonds or colored sapphires. The new line by Noor is called Krystallos. Again the geometry is the founding philosophy, with inverted pyramids that become pendants and earrings, gold and small diamonds to seal the perimeter of the jewels. Matilde de Bounvilles

In Las Vegas the jewelry’s Oscar

Are like the Oscars but for jewelery, the prizes awarded each year at the Couture Show in Las Vegas, the event dedicated to high-end and design jewelry. Which curiously takes place on the same days and in the same city of another trade fair, the Jck Las Vegas, more commercial, but also the largest in United States. And if every year, there is great expectation to find out the names of the winners of the 13 categories in the competition, announced at the end of the event, it may happen that an exhibitor receives an award from competitor organization. In fact, the brand founded by an American family of Burmese origin, Omi Privé, was tribute of the JCK Jewelers Choice Awards, foe the category of rings over $ 10,000 for a jewel with a black opal oval Lightning Ridge, 4.33 carats, surrounded by blue sapphires and tsavorites. The ring costing $ 26,000 was already sold but if you want to see other opals that stand out for the beauty of the stone or the originality or the elegance of the setting, here a selection of those featured at the Couture Show.
