The elegance of Nadia Morgenthaler

/

She worked for Chopard, taught at the Ecole d ’Art Appliquée in Geneva, directed the Arts Fusion high jewelery atelier but, above all, Nadia Morgenthaler has conquered a special place in the world of jewelry with her Maison. The fresh air of Lake Geneva inspired the designer the pleasure of embroidering metal and, instead of dewdrops, small pearls appeared on Nadia Morgenthaler’s jewels, like precious drops dotting rings, earrings and pendants. Now her jewels have also landed on the Net-à-porter marketplace, with seven pieces that summarize the creative path of the Swiss designer.

Her style is not imitable: Nadia Morgenthaler arrived there in 2013, after spending 25 years in the Geneva jewelery workshops. Her collections are a synthesis between a somewhat Victorian style and a little luxury of the maharajas. But they never cross over into overly flashy jewelry. They are, however, carefully crafted and, above all, have that aesthetic lightness that makes them refined and immediately desirable.

Flower Power for Bea Bongiasca

//

At the end of her studies in London, at Central Saint Martins College, Bea Bongiasca made her debut with the No Rice, No Life jewelry collection, which emphasized the green concept of sustainability and nutrition. A few years later, she proposed a collection inspired by the twisted tendrils of the plant on which the grapes grow. Now the Milanese designer debuts on Net-A-Porter with some exclusively designed floral-inspired pieces.

This mini line is called, in fact, Flower Power and winks at the Sixties, when the hippie movement used floral motifs as a symbol to support the pacifist movement. They are earrings and rings which, like all other Bea Bongiasca jewels, are also made in Italy in 9-karat gold, partially immersed in enamel. Their shape resembles the outline of a flower, but always in the classic pop look that distinguishes the brand. The jewels can also use stones such as blue topaz or rock crystal. The sale also has a charity side: 20% of the profits from the sale of this product will go to the Italian Red Cross Association.

Tiffany goes to Net-a-Porter

Tiffany relies on Net-a-Porter for the launch of new jewels from the Tiffany T collection ♦

In the golden world of jewelry things are changing. Barriers fall, new spaces are opened, those who buy jewelry travel new roads. A demonstration: the largest jewelery group in the world, Tiffany, has decided to use the Net-a-Porter online store to launch the new colorful extension of the Tiffany T collection. The curious aspect is not so much the decision to sell jewelry online, given that Tiffany has an efficient web-based shopping system, when entrusting the launch of new jewelry to the signs of another store where, let’s not forget, there are also competitors, more or less, of the Maison in New York.

Martin Katz plays online

Martin Katz’s jewels: expensive celebrity hobbies also are sold online ♦ ︎

It is not the first time, and it will not be the last, that the big jewelry, the one with figures from at least five zeros, is sold online. Martin Katz, jeweler of Berverly Hills and stars like Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Gigi Hadid and Zoe Kravitz, is in fact not new to these experiments. And now a series of her jewels from 30,000 to 70,000 dollars are offered on the Net-a-Porter platform, after a show on Moda Operandi. At the bottom is not a great surprise, but it is indicative that now even the jewelers who boast a rich and famous customers use online sales and, above all, there are those who are willing to pay high figures with a click, perhaps from the smartphone.

Martin Katz’s jewels are all about luxury, using large, bright and vibrant colored stones. For example, great dull opals or hypnotic tourmalines. And they are also inspired by vintage pieces from the Art Deco period. Lavinia Andorno

Those shoes are jewels

Shoes-jewel designed by five jewelry designers for Aquazzura: a strange experiment ♦ ︎

Gioiellis.com is a vertical site: it writes, that is, about only one topic, the jewels. For once, however, we make an exception, but only partially. Because we talk about Sabine Getty, Noor Fares, Eugenie Niarchos, Anissa Kermiche and Ana Khouri: all jewelry designers, all young, cute and full of creativity. All, however, were called to express their imagination with another type of accessory: shoes.

For Net-a-porter Edgardo Osorio asked the designers to design a pair of shoes for the Aquazzura brand.

By Sabine Getty
By Sabine Getty

In some cases, as was reasonable to expect, they are shoes that do not forget the main activity of the designer, that of jewelry. In other cases it is less experimental and more traditional shoes. The form, in short, also reflects the style that designers express with their jewels. For example, the Memphis Wave motif of Sabine Getty, which was made of crystals, with the perspex strap. Noor Fares, instead, preferred to focus on a special heel, covered with a pavé. But perhaps the shoe that is most noticeable is that of Anissa Kermiche with a heel made up of three gold and pearl hoops. Price: $ 1,152. Giulia Netrese

Tiffany Save the Wild

/

Tiffany in favor of elephants (and nature) launches the Save the Wild collection ♦ ︎
After the appeal to Donald Trump in favor of Paris climate agreements, renounced by the US president (see news here), Tiffany get out there still in favor of natural equilibrium. The engagement translates into a pink gold bracelet, which is part of a collection of jewels called Save the Wild: the revenues from the sale of the bracelet will support the Save the Elephants, an organization against poaching, that fights ivory traffickers.
In short, pink gold and diamonds, materials with which the bracelet is made, against ivory. The bracelet costs 3,130 euros and was sold on the Net-a-Porter portal. From September 2017, the entire collection will be launched and available in stores around the world. The initiative was presented in London during a gala evening with the outline of the usual idolized models, but apart from this outbid world, the initiative contributes to a good cause. It also refreshes Tiffany’s image a lot. Federico Graglia

(Italiano) Chanel a sorpresa vende online

Sorry, this entry is only available in Italian. For the sake of viewer convenience, the content is shown below in the alternative language. You may click the link to switch the active language.

Monica Battistoni
