Sotheby’s sells a record sapphire to Moussaief




The sale of Magnificent Jewels was included in Sotheby’s Luxury Week, a series of auction sales that began in November 2020, between Geneva, Hong-Kong and New York. A pink diamond ring by Moussaieff has reached the highest price at Christie’s auction in Hong Kong ♦

Although it weighs only 3.43 carats, a fancy vivid pink diamond mounted on a Moussaieff ring and surrounded by pear-shaped and marquise-shaped white diamonds, jokingly called Bubble Gum Pink, was the most requested jewelry for the sale of Magnificent Jewels in Hong Kong organized by Christie’s, which totaled 44.4 million. The price of the ring was within the estimate: 7.5 million dollars (it was between 6 and 8 million).

The auction included more than 260 lots of rare jewels, including jade ones, as is traditional for sales in the Chinese city. But it was another type of green gem to soar: the Grand Muzos earrings, with untreated Colombian emeralds of 23.34 carats and 23.18 carats with pearls and brilliant-cut diamonds (3.01 carats each) in platinum. Also, in this case, we remained in the valuation fork, with 4.4 million (the estimate was between 3.8 and 6.5 million).

Jade, however, did not disappoint: a jadeite necklace with 47 pearls of green stone of about 13.3-9.8 mm, with an oval cut ruby ​​clasp and circular-cut diamonds and baguette, was awarded for 1.9 million. The Bulgari necklace was also well received with a diamond F, 11.69 carats pear-shaped IF and a brilliant blue-green diamond of 1.02 carat, sold for 1.6 million.
