Swarovski opens the Crystal Studio concept store in Milan. Paris, Shanghai and … ♦ ︎

Swarovski opens its first Crystal Studio concept store in Milan. Milan will be followed by openings in Paris and other cities with strong links with the brand, such as Shanghai and Beijing, which Swarovski considers to be key locations for innovation and creativity in the fashion retail sector.

The opening in Milan was also facilitated by the fact that the city is the headquarters of Studio Urquiola, the creative design team that studied the new concept store, as well as being the Italian capital of fashion. The idea is to create a modern environment that can offer a highly interactive and social use experience that communicates glamor, experience and innovation. in the company’s goals, the customer will be encouraged to experiment with his creativity. The interactive digital touch points of the entire store aim not only to improve the purchasing process, but also to create a welcoming space, allowing customers to immerse themselves in the glittering world of Swarovski.

Materials and colors of Crystal Studio are designed to make the idea of a place to experiment. On the tiled floor in gray porcelain, the exhibitors present themselves as open and modular showcases defined by a wire mesh in a refined rose gold shade, ensuring greater emphasis on product display.

Innovation, creativity and the consumer are the center of this new and exciting concept store. Before starting to work on aesthetics, we thought of functionality: the ambition is to satisfy the digital demands of our consumers, offering them, at the same time, a unique and engaging shopping experience with the brand.

The heart of the shopping experience is the Sparkle Bar, a location where customers can devote time to discover new products, create new looks with jewels with the advice of Swarovski in-store experts, and virtually explore the sets. A bit like the Apple Store Genius Bar, in short. Within this space with attention to the smallest details, each customer can create their own look. Consumers are encouraged to touch and test products using mirrors that offer different lighting possibilities and to explore, through digital screens, the style tips proposed by the influencers of the Swarovski community.

The Sparkle Bar also offers a wireless charging station for smartphones to be used during shopping. Different gift cards are also available for purchases for friends, partners or for themselves.

The Milan Jewelery Week program

The Milan Jewelery Week program with 150 designer-artists and the Artistar Jewels competition ♦ ︎

We must congratulate Prodes, a company that organizes events of different types and its founder, Enzo Carbone. In seven years Artistar Jewels, which had started as a jewelery show-competition of avant-garde designers, has turned into a kermess up to the point of standing in a Jewelery Week (24-27 October) with many events scattered around the city.
This is not a replica of fairs dedicated to high jewelry, but the event seems to be able to attract interest and creatives from half the world.

Artistar Jewels remains at the center of the program. This is a collective exhibition of artists hosted at Palazzo Bovara (Corso di Porta Venezia 51, free admission).

Artistar Jewels is a project that has grown exponentially in recent years, gathering support from both insiders and a growing number of enthusiasts. The success of Artistar Jewels has allowed us to intercept the need to give the right emphasis to contemporary jewelery, in strong expansion in recent years, creating an entire week dedicated to it: hence the idea of launching the first in Milan Jewelry Week.

It should be added that the pieces on display do not often resemble traditional jewels. The techniques used range from laser cutting to lost wax, from watermark to hand finishing, through 3D printing, increasingly widespread in this sector, as well as the use of materials, from year to year more green and the result of activities of recycling and upcycling. Also this year the works will end up in a book.

The carnivorous jewels of futuroRemoto

///

Carnivorous plants become the subject that inspires the Carnivorous collection of the futuroRemoto by Gianni De Benedittis ♦ ︎

It is a paradox: while the number of humans who choose to be vegetarian and do not eat meat is growing, there are plants that are carnivorous. They represent almost a revenge against the animal kingdom, a bridge between the two worlds. And, precisely for this reason, they fascinate everyone, jewelers included. The Carnivorous collection by Gianni De Benedittis is dedicated to these plants capable of swallowing naive flies. A collection presented at Milan Jewelry week, of which the designer with his Maison futuroRemoto is special guest.

The pieces of the Carnivorous collection are all in silver and gold, designed in 3D and made with the precision casting technique. Carnivorous plants are also enriched with emeralds, rubies and diamonds. The shape of the jewels recalls that of the plants to which they are inspired but, obviously, without being a naturalistic reproduction of the plants.

Another counter-current collection is Bacterium, inspired by micro-eating plastic organisms, reproduced in jewels: small silver spheres with a gold bath, always made with the technique of casting and the use of colored enamels, with peduncles to form rings and bracelets, or pendants and earrings.

Furthermore, on Friday 25 October 2019 De Benedittis will proceed with the assignment of the futuroRemoto Jewels Prize, established in collaboration with Artistar Jewels (the winner will receive a cash contribution plus a trophy consisting of a gold ruler made for the occasion). The prizes are destined respectively to an artist of Artistar Jewels and to a student of one of the schools participating in the Milan Jewelry Week who will have distinguished themselves for their excellent mastery of the goldsmith’s technique and for the attention to the needs and trends of the fashion system.

New spheres for Alex Ball

//

The new spheres of Alex Ball, the jewelery brand that focuses on roundness ♦ ︎

A jeweler who does not want to make simple jewels: an object that is too usual, according to Alessandro Pallavidini. In 2003 the entrepreneur, owner of the historic company of Valenza Guerci Pallavidini, with 60 years of activity in the production of high-end frames, gave life to Alex Ball, a transposition in English of his Italian name.

Anelli in corallo rosa e turchese, con tsavoriti e spinelli
Anelli in corallo rosa e turchese, con tsavoriti e spinelli

Over the years it has kept faith with the philosophy of the brand: its non-jewels are mostly played on the shape of the sphere, an eternal form and at the center of many works of art (Giovanni Pallavidini, father of the founder Dario, was a well-known painter .). But the ball is not the only geometric shape used. For example, the Colors of Iceland collection has as its theme the explosion and includes 18k gold rings, diamonds, pink and tzavorite coral or turquoise and spinels, which do not have the classic sphere in the center, even if the overall volume is rather rounded .

Last February, Alex Ball opened a new boutique in Milan, in addition to those in Courmayeur, Forte Village, Ischia, Chia Laguna, as well as in Valenza.

The curves of Gavello

The jewels of the Milanese Maison Gavello: the nostalgia of the Seventies with unpredictable variations ♦ ︎

At the end of the seventies, in Milan, Rinaldo and Martha Gavello started their jewelry company. Gavello, almost half a century later, is today led by his daughter Elisabetta, responsible for the design and identity of the brand. But it is still a jewelry brand that loves to invent. Always, however, with a stylistic link linking creativity to what was a golden age (it must be said) for design. The jewels of Gavello, in fact, do not look for special effects with the assembly of an array of colored gems or diamonds with an unattainable number of carats.

Orecchini in oro rosa 14 carati
Orecchini in oro rosa 14 carati

The jewels of Gavello play instead on the shape, on the geometries, on a sinuous design, with the surface of 14 or 18-carat gold that is interrupted at times to leave space for some diamond, alone or in pavé. Or with precious or semi-precious gems such as moonstone and turquoise, amethyst, but also rubies and emeralds. Alessia Mongrando

A century of Buccellati

The Maison Buccellati celebrates one hundred years since the opening of the first store in Milan and celebrates it this way ♦ ︎

One hundred years of gold. With the prospect of another hundred equally valuable. Buccellati, a historic high-end jewelery Maison based in Milan, but which has recently opened a boutique in the prestigious rue St.-Honoré, in Paris, celebrates a century. And he decided to celebrate the date with private events around the world, in which he showcases about thirty jewels. In addition to Paris, these invitation presentations are held in New York, London, Tokyo and Hong Kong. Among the jewels on display is the pearl necklace donated by the poet Gabriele D’Annunzio to his lover, actress Eleonora Duse.

Andrea Buccellati e sua figlia Lucrezia
Andrea Buccellati e sua figlia Lucrezia

The Buccellati, Tuscan-born, began their activity as jewelers in Milan, right next to the Teatro alla Scala, in 1919. The Florentine style, then elaborated, was successful: the Buccellati jewels have become famous for their work in perforated gold , delicate and rich at the same time, with stones set instead of being hooked with prongs. The style of the Maison also includes a preference for slow and difficult work with the burin rather than relying on large colored stones or diamonds with too many carats.

Mario Buccellati, tiara sforata a tulle in argento platinato e foderato di oro giallo, incassato con diamanti taglio brillante e taglio rosa, 1929

A success story, which has only one aspect of uncertainty: 85% of Buccellati was purchased in August 2017 by Gansu Gangtai Holding, one of the largest jewelry distributors and online retailers in China. 15% is still in the hands of the family. But in jewelery circles it is assumed that the Chinese group could decide to sell its share due to the policy direction decided by the Beijing government. Someone even went so far as to indicate Richemont and the Qatari company Mayhoola as the possible buyers of Buccellati.

Certainly, apart from its shareholding, the Buccellati family is still very much represented in the company: Andrea is creative director, his daughter Lucrezia is a designer, Maria Cristina, she is in charge of marketing, Luca manages the most important customers, while Gino he resigned in 2018 (he was involved in the production of silver objects). All at work preparing the next hundred years.

A marquise cut diamond wins with Faraone Casa d’Aste

A Rolex and a marquise-cut diamond the most prominent pieces for the sale of Pharaoh Casa d’Aste ♦

Collectors, professionals intrigued by the selection of watches and private customers in search of a bargain, faces that are always new and exponential in number, have begun to work alongside traders who had always been in the front row seat in the two annual auctions of May and November. The May auction of Faraone Casa d’Aste, which was held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Milan, totaled purchases for 703,067.60 rights included. 50% of purchases were made by 31 private individuals, the rest by only seven traders. A fact that satisfies Faraone Casa d’Aste, which not only guarantees the excellent selection of the pieces placed at auction, but that has managed to convey the message that the purchase of jewelry and watches through the auction is convenient for an audience wider and not just exclusive to the sector operators.

Rolex Cioccolatone

In the rounds dedicated to watches, in the early hours of the afternoon, the auctioneer Luciano Carnaroli beat a Rolex Cioccolatone 1945 Ref 4645 with a rose gold case and bracelet worth 14,500 euros against a starting value of 9,000, in favor of a bidder on the telephone. A sale that has positively confirmed the intuition of the auction house to dedicate a special space to watches with its own auctioneer. In the part reserved for jewelry, the Patrizia di Carrobio auctioneer decreed the sale of lot 315, a marquise-cut diamond, D Color VVS2 of 4.98 Ct. Gia certificate, at the center of a series of raises between traders in the room and on the phone, for a final value of 90,000 in favor of a written offer from the United States and delivered a few hours before the start of the session.

We were used to an ever increasing turnout by private individuals at our previous auction dates, but we did not expect such a decisive role at the spring auction, usually attended by traders. This is a positive sign, a satisfaction and a praise of professionalism that I turn to all my team.

The gears of Dexter against Aids

//

Dexter’s gear-jewels join an anti-AIDS charity initiative at the Salone del Mobile in Milan ♦ ︎

It’s called Dexter. No, it has nothing to do with the hit television series. The name derives, instead, from the Latin word dexter, which means skilled, expert, well done. But, in addition to ensuring craftsmanship in jewelry making, Dexter has another peculiarity: it proposes jewels that have a mechanical gear as a base. This eight-edge gear can itself be the jewel, or contain other iconic or decorative elements within it.

Dexter, il ciondolo in oro o argento creati per AnlAids

On the occasion of the Fuorisalone, an event widespread in Milan during the Salone del Mobile, Dexter also associates a social initiative with the commercial proposal: the collaboration with AnlAids (association to fight AIDS), alongside which for years it has been participating in Convivio, charity show-market promoted in Italy by the fashion world in support of the Association.

For the occasion Dexter proposes a special collection, always with its gear, called Gear People, which becomes a symbol of the fight against AIDS. Gear People is a jewel (unisex bracelet or necklace charm) made in silver and gold. The people who will wear it, in the intentions of the brand, “will become the testimonial of a lifestyle conscious and attentive to detail for care and health and, therefore, of what matters for each of us: love, friendship , the well-being of men and the planet, animal friends. In fact, the jewelery will be engraved with eight key words that embody this philosophy: respect, life, enjoy, karma, share, love, be, proud. The jewel will also be customizable, on request, with a special date.

The new solidarity collection will be launched in the Dexter Milano exhibition space at Fuorisalone, the Scuola Orafa Ambrosiana in via Tortona 26, from 9 to 14 April, where it will also be possible to follow Dexter’s crafted gear chain jewelry design, from design to design, up to observe the different processing phases live.

A jewel contemporary to design in Milan

In Milan, jewelry and art at the Rossini Gallery on the occasion of Design Week ♦ ︎

For a week, every year, Milan becomes the capital of design. Salone del Mobile (in the spaces of the Fair) and Fuorisalone (the exhibitions in the city) attract crowds and operators from all over the world. The proposal of the Rossini Gallery is also punctual, which organizes the exhibition Outsidelounge 2019. Gioiello Contemporaneo, on the occasion of the design week. Even the jewel, in fact, is the result of design, in particular that which comes from a link with the world of contemporary art. In short, jewels, but of research, unique pieces.

Calcagnini Gioielli
Calcagnini Gioielli

The exhibition will be open from 9 to 20 April, in collaboration with the curators Marina Chiocchetta and Sonia Patrizia Catena. The jewels are heterogeneous, born from the research and creativity of Italian and foreign designers, goldsmiths and artists. Pieces not necessarily created to be worn, but like small sculptures. The jewels on display focus on two main strands: the so-called biomorphic language, that is, of a formal imitation of nature, or on the study of regular geometric shapes linked to the world of architecture.

Antonini, luxury is green

Earrings with 12 emeralds by Antonini and other Extraordinaire jewels made with the green gem ♦ ︎

One thing is certain: green is an extraordinary color. It is the hue of the leaves, of the woods, of the forests. But also some sea beds, many foods and, last but not least, emeralds. Perhaps this is why Antonini has dedicated some pieces of his Extraordinaire line to this precious stone.
This is the haute couture production of the Milanese Maison. These are unique pieces that every year Sergio Antonini combines with other collections. Sophisticated design and particularly fascinating stones are the ingredients of these jewels.

For example, a pair of earrings with 12 round-cut emeralds, ending with a rhodium-plated white gold pendant covered with diamonds, is the latest Extraordinaire creation.

And that the emerald is one of the stones that most stimulate the designer of the Milanese house is witnessed by the fact that other haute couture jewels use the green gem. Like the ring that has a cushion-cut emerald in the center, surrounded in turn by a surface covered by other small emeralds, a mosaic that seems to have come directly from the forests of the Amazon. A Bolaffi auction dedicated to jewelry returns to Milan. Includes a wide selection of diamonds and a prestigious Ceylon blue sapphire. The auction is scheduled for Tuesday, March 26th, at the Grand Hotel et de Milan, in Via Manzoni. The catalog includes 489 lots and, in addition to precious stones, indicates jewels of fashion houses such as Boucheron, Cartier and Bulgari, jewelry by Illario, historical family of Valenza, and Orisa, stage name of Anna Bacchelli (1898-1975), pieces early nineteenth century and even a jewel designed by Renzo Arbore.

Top lot of the auction some diamonds of exceptional color, such as the emerald-cut diamond of 5.20 carats, color D, purity VVS2 (lot 487, base 120.000 euros), the brilliant cut of 3.08 carats, color E, purity VS1 (lot 486, base 38,000 euros) and another emerald cut diamond of 5,65 carats, color F, clarity VS1 (lot 484, base 80,000 euros), all accompanied by Gia certificate.

The Ceylon blue sapphire without heating marks of 18.39 carats, mounted on a platinum ring with two 3.85 carat triangular diamonds (lot 489, stands out in the catalog, both for its crystal clarity and for its color intensity) base 100,000 euros).

Of refined manufacture, the demi-parure by Boucheron from the Sixties, composed of a flower-brooch pendant and earrings with brilliant-cut diamonds and baguettes of about 18.50 carats decorated with turquoises (lot 488, base 17,000 euros) is among the most important lots of the auction, together with an elegant bracelet of the thirties in geometric mesh platinum with Old European cut diamonds and round ones for about 19 carats in total (lot 273, base 12,000 euros).

Among the Illario jewels there is a necklace in diamonds and mother-of-pearl (lot 450, based on 5,500 euros), and a group of creations by Orisa from the Sixties, always characterized by great attention to the naturalistic element and the asymmetry that make them unique.
Finally, the catalog is enriched by the interesting creations of the ceramist and goldsmith Esa d’Albisola, also appreciated by Picasso, such as the large necklace in yellow gold and green tourmalines (lot 347, based on 2,500 euros) and a unicum by Umberto Mastroianni, very significant within his artistic career as a sculptor-goldsmith: the round neck with a large round pendant adorned with mechanical elements looks like a real “wearable sculpture” (lot 454, based on 5,500 euros).

Busatti Milano between titanium and virtuosity

/

Virtuosismo orafo. Giulia Netrese

Titanium and goldsmith virtuosity mark the return to Baselworld of the Maison Busatti Milano ♦ ︎

Busatti Milano returns to Baselworld with the addition of a novelty, recently introduced by the jewelery brand: the use of titanium, a metal that has become a sort of frontier for many jewelery companies. In fact, from the industrial use, titanium has moved into the goldsmiths’ workshops with some difficulty: it is light, flexible, hypoallergenic. But it is also difficult to work with. Now, however, the use of titanium spreads, as in the case of the set that Busatti has decided to present at the Swiss fair of jewelery and watches.

The titanium set includes a bracelet, a ring and a pair of earrings. Diamonds and sapphires of an intense blue are mounted on the metal.

But these are not the only titanium jewelry. There are also other pieces that use this metal, such as the ring with a cushion emerald in the center, set in a thick rock crystal crown and surrounded by a frame that, as in a comic book, seems to indicate a dip in the stone: splash . Goldsmith virtuosity. Giulia Netrese
