Among the brands present, in fact, Sicis Jewels has chosen the Emirates to present his collection of unique pieces, which stand out both for the creative style of the designer, Gioia Placuzzi, and for the technique adopted, which combines precious stones and gold with tiny chips of micromosaic, a centuries-old technique that the Atelier of Ravenna (Italy) brought it back to life. Sicis, rhombus as high jewelry

//

The word lozenge is a term used in heraldry to indicate a geometric figure of four sides with the upper and lower angles acute, while the two lateral ones are obtuse. In short, a rhombus for geometry that you learn at school. But it is also a very popular geometric figure for fabrics and some dresses. Now Losange is also the name of a high jewelery necklace and earrings created for Sicis by the art director of the Maison of Ravenna (Italy), Gioia Placuzzi.

Like the other Sicis jewels, the necklace is made with tiny micromosaic tiles in glass paste, combined with precious stones and gold. In particular, the necklace is made up of diamonds, pink sapphires, sunset blue and orange, emeralds, amethysts as well as, last but not least, precious micromosaic miniatures. The necklace is composed of many rhombus-shaped elements in shades of red and blue, dotted with the green of small emeralds, and the purple and pink of sapphires. A complex composition, which transforms an angular geometry, such as that of the lozenge, into a soft jewel.

A technique that is then enhanced by the art director, Gioia Placuzzi, the soul of the brand, and her staff. The micromosaic technique was adopted by Sicis after 20 years of research and studies: it is a process born in the eighteenth century in Rome and today. The examples that Sicis brings to New York give a good idea of what type of jewelry can be produced. Like the Quetzal set inspired by the exotic tropical bird, with diamonds and tanzanites. The butterflies that seem to fly on bright gold threads and diamonds in the Butterfly set. Or the Calipso necklace, designed remembering the nymph told in the Odyssey, with infinitesimal micro-mosaic tiles that form special drops that are intertwined with Akoya pearls. Another example is that of the Alphabet collection, which transforms simple letters into amulets, with the micromosaic that designs miniatures together with diamonds, rubies and other gems.

The Sicis micro mosaic between flowers and Art Deco, here are the new jewels ♦ ︎

Micro mosaic, great result. Sicis, a Ravenna-based company specialized in mosaic activity, which also brings its expertise in fine jewelry, presented the latest creations at VicenzaOro September. The micro mosaic technique, this time, is used for jewels that have a floral subject.

Sicis fine jewelery, however, is not only micro mosaic, but also gold and precious stones, such as the bright marquise-cut rubellites used for rings and earrings, or amethysts or pavé diamonds. But the micro mosaic should not be underestimated: the shades of colors on the surfaces of the jewel are made with thousands of tiny fragments of glass created ad hoc: a job that can take hundreds of hours and an indefinite number of tests to find the right nuance.

Only Sicis Jewels, as far as we know, is able to use this technique, which is declined in jewels that are inspired by art deco, or give space to the creativity of the company’s designer. Which, in addition to colors, also focuses on the originality of the form factor: for example, some elements of jewels are mobile.

Sicis among the stars

Tiny pieces of gold, enamel, stones are used to compose the Etoile collection by Sicis ♦ ︎

Tiny pieces of micromosaic in glassy paste, combined with precious stones and gold. It looks like an alchemic formula and, basically, it is. The tradition of mosaic, and then of micromosaic, is ancient. But it requires considerable manual skill, which only those with long experience can understand and translate into work. Even more so when it comes to jewels, such as those proposed by Sicis, a company based in Ravenna, a city that preserves wonderful Byzantine mosaics in its churches.

The tiles, infinitely small, are enameled, hand-made by art masters who combine them one by one together with precious stones. They are composed in this way complex glue, or more simple, combined with laces, rings and earrings. M.d.B.

The Arabesque by Sicis

/

Two new pieces of high jewelery made by Sicis with the technique of micromosaic, combined with diamonds and rubies, the Arabesque parure ♦ ︎
The micromosaic becomes a jewel: it is one of the Sicis skills, a company from Ravenna specialized in the art of combining tiny colored pieces. And it is no coincidence that this skill is developed in a city that houses some of the most beautiful and important mosaics in the world. Given this, here is the new effort of Sicis: the Arabesque set. It is a pair of earrings and a ring, which whit the micromosaic design have an oriental echo. The micromosaic, supported by a set of white gold, is also embellished with lines of white diamonds and a red rubies. The same composition is repeated for ring and hanging earrings, which use rubies at the height of the closure. In this case the geometric drop shape is made with diamonds, which is superimposed on the jewel: it’s a movable set and therefore oscillates according to the movements of the wearer’s body. From Sicis a fern jewel

By Sicis, a micro-mosaic with emeralds turns into a jewel-fern ♦ ︎
Sicis’s micro mosaic is made in Ravenna, a city that houses some of the most famous Romanesque mosaics in the world. It’s not a casuality. Virtuosism in the realization of these micro mosaics manifests itself from time to time in the creation of fancy jewelery, where the merit is not only in the materials used, but also in the difficult to applying the technique to the high jewelery. After a series of animal-inspired jewels, now is a plant, the oldest in the world: the fern, which dates back some 350 million years ago. It is made up of hundreds of hand-laid worked micro-tiles, which form the leaves: a special spinning and cutting technique makes it possible to obtain shades of several colors a single splinter. On these soft shapes are cut emeralds drops-cut.
The ring consists of three leafs in micro mosaic encased in white gold with brilliant cut diamonds paved and a columbian emerald drop. Each earring is made up of six different sized micro mosaic leaves, white gold, diamond pavers and emerald brilliant cut, plus two emerald droplets. Cosimo Muzzano

Sicis plunges into Chinese legend

Sicis, Ravenna company that has made of technique of micro mosaic an art, loves to turn the spotlight on one piece at a time. In fact the jewelry that it shows, unique pieces, are to be observed more as art than craft products. After the necklace inspired by the Big Bang cosmic there is another valuable and imaginative jewel, this time linked to an ancient Chinese legend. In short, the story tells of a brave carp which climbed the falls of Dragon Gate, along the Yellow River, overcoming obstacles and evil spirits. The gods, impressed by such courage, they promoted the fish, transformed as dragon, a symbol of those who aspire to achieve great things and is not afraid to face the adversities of life. To this story is inspired by the Koi necklace, constancy and perseverance emblem. The jewel is entirely in white gold, while the line that draws a branch of coral is covered in Micro Mosaic, 14,69 carats of white diamonds and 13.84 carats of orange sapphires. There are also 7.08-carat of intense blue aquamarines. The necklace has also an amazing in the hidden side, the back side, made with iridescent nacre. Giulia Netrese

Sicis, the Big Bang in a necklace

Sicis has accustomed us to unique pieces. Unique and amazing. This time it is the case of Cosmic Egg. That is not going to end up in a pan, but means “the cosmic forces of nature and regeneration by means of them.” The jewel is designed and manufactured by the Atelier Sicis: the company of Ravenna, it should be remembered, is specialized in mosaics and micromosaics. A processing technique for this very complicated and rather rare. But this series, in addition to being complicated to implement, it is also valuable: it is composed of over 900 diamonds (totaling 9.25 carats) and 1200 sapphires (for 23,22 carats), seven Tanzanite cabochon of 43.77 carats. The tanzanite, a recently discovered stone considered to get good luck, is extremely rare and sought after for its color, an intense blue that changes when viewed from different angles. The necklace is composed of oval elements surrounded by two irregular ellipses with diamonds and sapphires, which refer to the orbits of the planets. A cosmos, in fact. Sicis also took the opportunity to add an astronomical note: according to cosmologists, over 14 billion years ago the entire mass of the universe was compressed into a volume of about 30 times the size of our sun. A small ball when compared with the entire universe. And this “ball” primordial exploded with the Big Bang and the current universe was born. Which it is now also represented by this necklace.
