The noble jewelry of Pippa Small

Social activity and jewelery: this is how Pippa Small got a the title of Lady of the Order of British Empire ♦

She creates jewelry, but is also a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, an order of chivalry that rewards contributions to the arts and sciences, collaborates with charitable and welfare and public service organizations outside the civil service. But Pippa Small, in addition to being a designer, is also an anthropologist, a human rights activist and an ambassador for survival. The London-based designer who also shops in Los Angeles and New York, not surprisingly, is liked by a (former) members of the royal family, such as Meghan Markle, who often wore earrings by Pippa Small.

To this list one could add that she is in love with stones (but this aspect is common to many jewelers) and that she often frequents the East, from Thailand to India, in search of gems and to restore the spirit, as well as to carry out activities of charity. The stones of her jewelry are often simply cut, as was often the case at the time of the maharaja. Among his initiatives, for example, he took part in the Turquoise Mountain initiative, in Afghanistan, to revive goldsmith craftsmanship. The activity was then extended to Myanmar and Syrian refugees in Jordan. In short, Pippa Small is also active in the social field, but this does not mean that her jewelry production is neglected.

5 rules for choosing pearl earrings

How to choose pearl earrings? To decide, look at what Kate Middleton wore ♦ ︎

Pearls, especially earrings, have always been a must for queens and princesses. When, for example, Prince Louis was baptized, no one was surprised that his mother, the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, wore pearl earrings (along with a cream Alexander McQueen dress). The earrings, if you’re curious, were by London jeweler Cassandra Goad and cost £ 4,360. Each pearl features a small diamond set, surrounded by 18K yellow gold. Fun Look: The design of these earrings was inspired by clusters of cauliflower in a Sicilian market.

In short, this is just one example. Pearl earrings are regularly worn on the most diverse occasions. There are those who choose pearls and combine them with jeans or those, like Kate Middleton, who use them as a classic and always fashionable jewel also for official occasions, evenings and ceremonies. According to the International Gem Society, white pearls have a link with innocence and purity. In Asia, pearls are considered a symbol of divinity and a higher power due to the external appearance and circular shape of the gem. However, pearl earrings are not all the same. First of all, pearls can have different shapes, not necessarily circular. And, moreover, pearls also have different colors: from pearly white to shades of gold, green or dark gray.

How to choose pearl earrings

1 Choose earrings with dangling pearls, perhaps in the shape of a drop, if you have a rather round face.

2 Better earrings with button pearls, or clusters like those worn by Kate Middleton, if you have an elongated face.

3 The color of the pearls can also be matched to the skin tone. White or golden pearls for those with fair skin, Tahitian pearls with a gray color or with purple hues for those with brown or dark skin.

4 A pair of pearl earrings can be worn on any occasion as long as it is simple, such as stud earrings. Pendant earrings, perhaps combined with diamonds or other precious stones is better if they are reserved for busy evenings.

5 Matching with the dress: white pearls are neutral and can be combined with any outfit. Colored pearls, on the other hand, are to be considered in all respects as jewels to be coordinated with the color of the dress, such as a scarf or a brooch.

Which finger does a wedding ring go on

Do you want to know which finger is the right one to wear a ring? It depends on your hands, but also on the meaning of the ring. Here is a quick guide with things to know on which finger to wear a ring.

The rules for wearing rings: in addition to personal taste, there are some general principles regarding how to wear them. For example, rings with oval or elongated stones look more elegant and visually make the fingers longer and prettier. Large rings and large jewels are not suitable for people with small bodies and hands, who should think about finding lighter alternatives commensurate with their size. Etiquette experts recommend avoiding large, showy rings until 5pm, especially when it comes to expensive jewelry. It is no coincidence that that type of jewel is referred to as a cocktail ring. Finally, it is not superfluous to remember that choosing a beautiful ring is not enough – it is necessary to have clean fingers and nails. A ring draws attention to the hands: it is better to use creams suitable for the skin and properly care for the nails. Wearing numerous rings on one or more fingers was once considered a sign of bad manners. Today this is not the case, as long as you choose well and have thin, tapered fingers.

On which hand to wear the ring? It also depends on the culture and customs of the country where you live. For many oriental peoples, the left hand is Yin (a concept that symbolizes female, moon, darkness, earth and water, passivity and cold) and the right hand Yang (male, light, solar fire, hot). A ring on either finger is equivalent to enabling or enhancing these characteristics.

On the thumb

The ancient Greek associated it with manly dignity. Nowadays, however, wearing the ring on the thumb is a sign of determination and personal achievement by any means possible, of a fiery temperament associated with a strong interest in the sexual sphere. The ring on the left thumb (yin) means assertiveness, a person who is able to express his ideas clearly and convincingly, and the desire to impose his will on others, while on the right (yang) he expresses a flexible and extroverted.

On the index finger

According to the ancients, the index finger was linked to Jupiter and therefore to the concept of authority. Wearing a ring on the index finger would therefore represent the desire for power. On the left hand, however, it would show a desire for transgression. According to the theory of yin and yang, in the first case leadership is sought, while on the right it means being ready to accept the leadership of others and the willingness to take a passive role. But not everyone agrees on this. In any case, it is important that the index is lean, healthy, well-groomed. Wearing a ring on this finger is sure to attract attention.

Anello al dito medio

On the middle finger

This finger expresses the desire to be admired, to boast about: even Marilyn Monroe wore a large diamond ring on her middle finger when she sang to the notes of the famous song Diamonds are girl’s best friends. According to the Yin theory, the ring in the center means that the wearer has the ability to distinguish between right and wrong and is able to make decisions about it, while the concept of yang (right hand) means the inclination to seek guidance from others.

On the ring finger

Indicates the family status of a person. The habit dates back to the ancient Romans: they believed that in this finger there was a nerve that goes straight from the ring finger to the heart. Furthermore, they are the ones who introduced the habit for married women of wearing a ring, as a sign of marriage. Even today, the ring on the ring finger indicates that the wearer is a person who has already made a sentimental commitment to another. In the yin tradition, wearing a ring on the ring finger means being creative and resourceful, able to solve problems easily, while in the yang side it is the desire to teach others how they can be creative and use their skills for their own profit.

On pinky finger

It is the symbol of artistic and creative quality, of eloquence and persuasion, of cunning and resourcefulness. Not only that: the chevalier ring worn on the little finger is a sign of noble ancestry: in this case the ring has engraved the noble family crest. In the East, a ring on the little finger indicates a distinctly communicative but also manipulative yin, while on the right hand, yang, it signals one’s ability to grasp everything that everyone else is trying to say.

How much are the Windsor jewels worth?

British princes, kings and dukes buy jewels of great value. Which over time are re-evaluated.

The jewels of the British royalty, the crown jewels, consist of more than 140 pieces. The entire collection uses 23,578 precious stones, including Cullinan I, the largest cut diamond in the world with its 530 carats: its value is estimated at 400 million pounds, about 440 million euros or 521 million dollars. The most recent addition to the collection was a 22-karat gold bracelet that was presented by the late Queen Elizabeth II at the time of her coronation in 1953. Giving a global price to the jewelry collection is difficult, not least because there is no possibility that the jewels are put up for sale. Some time ago, however, a rough calculation estimated the real collection at over 3 billion pounds or 3.3 billion euros or almost 4 billion dollars.

La corona britannica: sulla fascia in basso il diamante Cullinan

The collection is kept inside the Jewel House in the Tower of London with the exception of the jewels usually used by the royal family. The ring was worn by Kate Middleton and, before her, by Diana Spencer, it was arguably the most recognizable royal engagement jewel in history and is now priced appropriately for her fame. The 12-carat Ceylon sapphire surrounded by 14 diamonds worn by the Duchess of Cambridge has been valued at £ 300,000 (about € 360,000), ten times the amount paid 34 years ago. The ring, which originally belonged to the mother of Prince Williams, Princess of Wales, was purchased by King Charles of England in 1981 for £ 28,000.

Even the one that belonged to Queen Elizabeth, a 3-carat solitaire diamond mounted on platinum and surrounded on each side by five small diamonds, has been revalued: it was purchased for 28,000 pounds in 1947 and is now valued at 100,000 (about 120,000 euros). From the Queen Mother to the new Queen: the Camilla ring received by Charles in 2004 is also revalued. It is an Art Deco example from 1930, consisting of a large emerald-cut diamond flanked by three baguette-cut diamonds on both sides. It was valued at 100,000 pounds in 2004, 250,000 (300,000 euros) today.

Give back the ring? Here are the rules

/

In case of separation or divorce must return the ring and jewelry received as a gift? Here is what the law says. And the common sense ♦ ︎

When you browse through the album of memories, everything looks so beautiful. He, she, the smiles, the happy moments. But love does not always last long. Divorces, separations, goodbyes are to be considered when starting a relationship. Paris Hilton, for example, held a $ 2 million solitaire that ex-boyfriend Chris Zylka asked back to her after the relationship broke. The singer Ariana Grande, instead, has delivered to her ex, the comedian Pete Davidson, the ring he had given her. It had cost only $ 93,000 after all. But the opposite also happens: that she, indignant, to return the ring. It happened, for example, to the Italian footballer Mario Balotelli, years ago who received back a 117,000 euro ring that he had given to the model Fanny Neguesha.

In conclusion, the painful aspects at the time of the division of the couple there is also the non-secondary aspect of the attribution of material goods. Houses, cars and, last but not least, the jewels. Yes, because there are men who claim to get back what they have donated and women who feel compelled to point out the distance by throwing back the engagement ring or the earrings received for the birthday. But is this attitude right? And the law what do you expect?

Scambio di anelli
Scambio di anelli

Divorces and separations

American way. The United States, from the point of view of the legal aspects of separation and divorce, is a school, but even here there is no single rule. Some examples: after the divorce from Donald Trump, in 1999, Marla Maples sold her diamond of Harry Winston from 7.45 carats to 110,000 dollars. He then donated the money to charity, at least that’s what he reported. The former president of the USA has defined the “rather boring” affair. The federal state law in New York believes, for example, that an engagement that ends is no one’s fault and the ring should be returned to the donor, with few exceptions. Different, however, if the couple breaks out after marriage. And most states have adopted this approach. But not all. In Montana, the ring is considered an unconditional gift and therefore remains to those who received it. In California and Texas, if the request for engagement and marriage is accepted, the ring becomes a sort of contract and therefore stays with the bride or bride in case of separation.

Family jewels

And in Europe? In the Old Continent, family traditions weigh more than in the US. Although in most countries gifts are gifts and, therefore, no one thinks of returning necklaces, rings and earrings. In the event of a break in the engagement or marriage, the jewels therefore remain in the hands of ex-girlfriends or wives. However, there are exceptions. One of these concerns the so-called family jewels, which are linked to ancient traditions or have belonged to mothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers. In most cases it is not a question of jewels of great value (unless you are Meghan Markle or Kate Middleton). However, these jewels have a very strong emotional value, not only for those who gave them away, but also for the family context behind them. In this case it is good practice to return the jewelry to the him or, better, to the history to which they belong. In short, it is not provided for by law, but by common sense.

Il difficile momento della separazione
Il difficile momento della separazione

Communion of goods and jewels

Another exception is that envisaged in some countries, such as Italy, where there is the possibility of opting for the communion of assets at the time of marriage. This type of marriage agreement provides that all purchases made by one or both spouses after the moment of the “yes” are co-ownership between husband and wife. But Article 179 of the Civil Code mentions among the goods that do not fall within the legal communion those of “strictly personal use of each spouse and their accessories”. Among accessories are easy to locate jewels. But, beware: in February 2017 the Court of Cassation (the third degree of judgment according to the Italian legal system) ordered the seizure of a wife’s jewels because of the crimes committed by her husband. According to the judges, “in the case of the legal communion of goods, the purchases made after marriage are also the property of the other spouse, unless the goods are strictly personal, completely subtracted, as such, at the other”. According to the magistrates, “the use demonstrates the availability of the good by the spouse but does not exclude that of the other”. So the jewels were considered common goods of the couple. But just in case in regime of communion of goods.

The rings of the British royals

/

Engagement rings of the protagonists of the British royal family. Those of Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle, Camilla and … ♦ ︎

The many fans of chronicles from the British royal family are preparing for a new wedding. After those of Prince Harry and Maghen Markle there were those of Eugenie, second child of Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, with Jack Brooksbank, then those of Beatrice of York with Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. Or of nobles linked in some way to the royal family, such as Lady Gabriella Windsor, daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, who married Thomas Kingston.

Lady Gabriella Windsor con Thomas Kingston
Lady Gabriella Windsor con Thomas Kingston

The father of the bride, Prince Michael of Kent, is the son of George, Duke of Kent and Navy of Greece. He is also the nephew of King George V, who reigned from 1910 until January 20, 1936. He is therefore the first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II. In short, it is always part of the royal family, as evidenced by the fact that Lady Gabriella got married in the same place where the weddings of Meghan Markle and Princess Eugenia were celebrated (Kate Middleton and William instead said yes in the Abbey of Westminster).

As always, attention is also paid to everything around events of this type. For example, to the jewels that noble brides wear. Often the jewels worn by members of the royal family, in fact, reveal bonds and hierarchies, as well as being particularly valuable objects. In particular, the rings worn by girlfriends and brides of the British royal family all have a story to tell.

Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge

Kate Middleton presented herself in public with the ring of engagement that belonged to Princess Diana: a way to emphasize also a leading role and an unconditional entry into the royal family. The ring has a 12 karat Ceylon oval blue sapphire and is surrounded by 14 diamonds. The gift was a symbolic act and also a decision on which Prince William has meditated: before offering it to the future bride it seems that he kept the ring in his pocket for three weeks while on vacation with Kate in Kenya. In short, it is certainly not an impulsive one.

Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex

Meghan’s engagement ring was designed by Prince Harry personally. The ring is of the trilogy type, with three diamonds: the center stone, larger, comes from Botswana, where the couple had spent their holidays together. Not secondary aspect: the other two diamonds belonged to the Princess Diana jewelry collection. Also in this case, in short, there is a clear connection with the family history.

Queen Elizabeth II

Like his nephew Harry, Prince Philip, husband of Elizabeth II, who passed away in 2021, also designed the engagement ring. This is a square diamond ring of approximately 3 carats, made for her more than 70 years ago. This is not an exceptional link, but for a reason: austerity after the Second War advised against excessive ostentation of wealth. The diamond had previously been set in a tiara that belonged to Philip’s mother.

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall

The second wife of Prince Charles (from February 2005), received a ring with five carat diamonds. In this case it is a family ring: it was built in 1920 and belonged to the Queen Mother. The central diamond is square cut and is surrounded by six baguette-cut diamonds.

Zara Phillips

Zara (Anne Elizabeth) Phillips, married to Mike Tindall, is the daughter of Princess Anne, sister of the Queen, and her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips. She is therefore the second granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth. For engagement Zara received a diamond solitaire ring set by Mike Tindall on a platinum band studded with small diamonds.

Princess Eugenia

Sarah Ferguson’s daughter sported a ring with sapphire padparadscha, one of the rarest varieties of stone. It is an oval sapphire surrounded by diamonds and set on a Welsh gold ring, perhaps a gift from the queen. Among other things, the ring resembles that of Eugenie’s mother, Sarah Ferguson, when she became engaged to Prince Andrew in 1986.

The engagement ring of the Duchess of York was a Burmese ruby surrounded by diamonds, designed by Prince Andrew. Which, however, has confessed to having been helped by jewelers in charge of making the ring.

Princess Diana

In 1981 Lady Diana’s engagement ring was the first tear to the royal protocol: it was chosen, in fact, from the catalog of Garrad, a London jeweler. The tradition, in fact, foresaw that members of the royal family did not wear jewels that could be bought by any citizen (obviously rich enough to be able to afford it).

Meghan stays true to Birks

/

At the end of September, Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, decided to stroll the streets of New York. Nothing strange. But the newspapers that follow the gossip have taken note, as always, of the clothing and jewelry worn by the former actress. Alongside a Lorraine Schwarts ring, Prince Harry’s wife opted for her engagement ring and a white gold diamond Birks ring. Not only that: Meghan Markle has also chosen another jewel of the Maison Birks: earrings with an estimated value of 15,100 dollars.

That the Duchess of Sussex had a predilection for Birks Bijoux, a Canadian company founded in 1879, based in Montreal, in fact, is not new. The jewelry company, a couple of years ago announced that sales had increased precisely in relation to the preference granted by Meghan Markle to the brand’s rings and earrings. The Maison’s jewels are very modern, but without adding oddities. Indeed, in theory the design of Bijoux Birks is inspired by Canadian nature, even if it is not easy to find the reasons in the appearance of the collections. Which remain, however, pleasant. Which must also be Meghan Markle’s opinion.

In ancient times there was King Midas, who transformed everything he touched into gold, while today Meghan Markle transforms the gold he touches into successful jewels. Or rather, the jewelry he wears. British newspapers report on the umpteenth miracle performed by the Duchess of Sussex before her self-exile in Canada.

Here is Beatrice of York’s engagement ring

/

The engagement ring between Beatrice of York and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi: was made by Shaun Leane ♦ ︎

Another ring enters the history of the British royal family. And, this time, it also has a pinch of Italy. It is the ring of Princess Beatrice of York, first-born of Andrea, Duke of York and Sarah Ferguson. She is therefore the grandson of Queen Elizabeth II and Philip of Edinburgh. Beatrice will marry Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, an Italian entrepreneur active in the real estate sector, who has long since moved to London. At the official announcement of the engagement (but he is divorced and with a son), the ring was followed.

Edoardo, Edo for his friends, designed the engagement ring with Beatrice in collaboration with British jewelry designer Shaun Leane. He is a designer that appeals to real young people, and in particular to Meghan Markle. His jewels are very modern, often with unusual shapes. The engagement ring with Beatrice, however, is very classic. It was made of platinum, with a central brilliant-cut diamond of 2.5 carats and flanked by two other tapered baguette diamonds.

It is not a stone of exceptional size, but still above average and, above all, the diamond is of the best quality for cut and clarity, Gia certified. Butani from Meghan to Ariana

//

The new jewels by Butani, with many diamonds that also like to Meghan Markle and Ariana Grande ♦ ︎

Last winter the name of Butani has become famous also to women who do not have many opportunities to admire high jewelry pieces. A pair of Butani earrings, in fact, was worn by the Duchess of Sussex at the gala dinner organized by President Jioji Konrote in the Fiji Islands. To be precise, chandelier earrings with white and yellow diamonds, valued at $ 500,000. In fact, those earrings were also one of the many exception to the rules by Meghan Markle: the earrings, in fact, were borrowed from Meghan, just as the movie stars do on the red carpet. But according to the etiquette for the official events the British royals usually wear only family jewels. Problems, in any case, that do not seem so fundamental.

It’s focused on jewels of great value, rich in stones, especially diamonds. The Duchess of Sussex continues to be an influencer in the field of jewelry. What Meghan Markle wears has immediatly a reflection on sales, not least because Prince Harry’s bride often chooses jewelry for everyone.

Now, however, another type of choice may also weigh: that relating to synthetic diamonds.

Meghan Markle, in fact, during her first visit as Royal Patron for SmartWorks (a charity that helps unemployed and vulnerable women), what has been described as her “most daring to date” jewel, that is a pair of earrings with three drops. The jewelry brand is Kimai, specialized in ethical jewelry: the earrings were made of 18 carat gold and the diamonds are obtained in the laboratory and cost only 315 pounds. A fact that surprised many: are synthetic diamonds quite “noble”? It seems so. And perhaps this time the choice of Meghan Markle will push many women to opt for this type of stone. The choice has already opened a debate in the British press and on the options represented by ethical jewels. On the other hand, the largest natural diamond company, De Beers, announced long ago the opening of a laboratory for the production of synthetic diamonds.
From her engagement with Prince Harry the Duchess of Sussex has always been wearing the latest jewelry trends, from brands like Birks, Missoma and Shaun Leane. And all have seen an increase in sales thanks to the young new member of the royal family.

The alternative jewels of Meghan Markle

//

The jewelry worn by Meghan Markle is from the “alternative” designer Pippa Small ♦ ︎

Meghan Markle is pregnant and it’s the news that has thrilled all the fans of events of the British royal family. But those who follow the Buckingham Palace and its news with assiduousness also monitor the clothes and jewels worn by the protagonists of the royal house. In addition to the diadem of Princess Eugenie, of which we have spoken, the profusion of rings, bracelet and earrings, all in yellow gold (her favorite metal), worn by Meghan Markle on the occasion of the wedding ceremony, has aroused curiosity.

We can unveil the origin of the Sussex Duchess’s jewelry: they are from Pippa Small.

It was probably not a casual choice: Pippa Small, in fact, is not an elite jewelry brand. Indeed, it is just the opposite: it is a brand that brings with it words like sustainability, fairness, respect for minorities. And with this choice, Meghan reiterates her role as a nonconformist woman in the royal family.
Pippa Small, in fact, is a London designer who loves to travel and “was inspired by the many fascinating cultures she met”. He completed a master’s degree in medical anthropology and has since focused his interests on human rights among minorities, indigenous groups. It is not by chance that she was appointed ambassador of the human rights organization Survival International in 2008 and in 2013 she won an Mbe by the Queen for ethical jewels and charity works. He worked with the first fair trade gold mine registered in the world in Bolivia and with the esteemed Fair Trade Fair company based in Kibera, a shantytown in Nairobi. When he started his second life as a designer, he also collaborated with famous brands such as Gucci in Tom Ford, Chloe, Bamford. In 2016 he also won the Ethical Jeweler of the Year award and the prestigious Walpole Corporate Social Responsibility award.

Meghan Markle, boomerang effect for Birks

The other side of the Meghan Markle effect on the Canadian Birks ♦ ︎

Meghan Markle is in the spotlight. The people love the casual way of moving, the smile, some small transgression to the rigid label that surrounds the royal family. And, consequently, it also likes what she wears, including jewelry. We have already told about the Sussex Duchess’s preference for a Canadian jewelery brand, Birks (we talked about it here). When this predilection for the “Canadian Tiffany” was discovered, the jewels of that brand worn by Meghan Markle snapped up.

The earrings of Birks that Prince Harry’s wife wore at the time of the official engagement announcement were sold out in a few minutes
Do you think the Birks is satisfied? Yes and no. In an interview with Maclean’s, a Canadian magazine, the marketing manager and vice president of Birks, Eva Hartling, explained that the Meghan Markle effect is a double-edged sword for the jewelry company. “On the one hand is a textbook example of what should be the work of organic pr: a consumer in love with the brand (Meghan Markle) becomes the best known person on the planet. Obviously we do not complain. But all the image related to Birks right now has to do with the Duchess wearing our pieces. We are launching new collections for the fall, but nobody cares if the duchess does not decide to buy a piece and wear it”. In short, Birks suffers from dependence on the Duchess of Sussex: from his choices will depend on the success or a boomerang effect for the Canadian Maison. A truly royal power. Cosimo Muzzano

The queen’s pearls to Meghan

Queen Elizabeth gives a pair of pearl earrings to Meghan Markle ♦ ︎

The jewels of Meghan Markle, wife of Prince Harry and Duchess of Sussex, continue to intrigue. In her first official release with Queen Elizabeth, for the inauguration of a bridge over the Mersey River in Widnes, Cheshire, Meghan wore a pair of earrings that has not escaped the attention of Buckingham Palace fans.
Someone has immediately attributed the earrings in gold, small diamonds and pearls, to Birks, the Canadian Maison favored by Harry’s wife (we talked about it here). In reality, the earrings bear witness to the Queen’s strong sympathy for Meghan, also recorded by the smiles during the event: it is, in fact, a gift that comes directly from the royal collection. Indeed, according to some it is the same earrings worn by the queen on the occasion of the wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton. In short, it is not about whatever earrings, but about a jewel tied to important occasions. What time, at 92, the queen has yielded to Meghan. Rudy Serra

Birks, petals for Meghan

/

Birks, the favorite jewelry brand from Meghan Markle, launches the new Pétale collection ♦ ︎
Birks is a Canadian jewelry company that has a long tradition, started four centuries ago in Sheffield, England. The current brand was born however in 1879 when Henry Birks opened a jewelry boutique in the heart of Montreal. In North America it is now a small empire. Well known in Canada and the US, however, in Europe it became famous because it is the favorite brand of Meghan Markle, at least until before the marriage with Prince Harry (now who knows).
In any case, Birks did not allow herself to be impressed by the fame that was added thanks to the Duchess of Sussex and launched a new collection, Birks Pétale inspired by the petals of a flower. A simple shape, which translates into rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings in gold and pavé diamonds (but there is also a cheaper version in silver). Prices are low: it starts at less than $ 200 for silver jewelry, and goes up to 1500 for the two biggest diamond earrings. Lavinia Andorno

Kate Middleton’s jewels

The jewels of Kate Middleton are not just those of the royal family. Here are the favorite jewelry brands from Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge ♦

When he was born the eldest son, George, Kate Middleton presented herself to the public with the royal baby and ring that William gave her for the engagement. And with the birth of the second child, the ritual is again repeated. And the one worn by Kate is not ring whichever: it is a jewel with a big sapphire and diamonds, belonged to William’s mother, Princess Diana. And it is the engagement ring that Diana Spencer received in turn by Charles. After the death of Diana, Charles gave the ring to his eldest son, who in turn gave it to Kate when he asked her to marry him. To be precise, the ring was made by Garrard, who claims to be “the oldest jewelery in the world”: although the definition seems risky (the Mellerios were in Paris already in the seventeenth century), but the house has solid traditions, since it was founded in London by George Wickes Garrard in 1735. The Duchess of Cambridge, wife of William, second in line of succession to the throne of England, after his father, Charles, has a passion for jewelry . But not only for those very precious that has received with the princely marriage. Kate Middleton, in fact, also likes to wear the jewelry of Zara, or those of the online boutique Merci Maman. Or, again, the jewels of Monica Vinader, that Kate wore before the wedding and the jewelry of Claudia Bradby, who is a personal friend of the princely couple Williams and Kate Middleton. Meghan Markle’s Canadian jewels

The other jewels of Meghan Markle, the bride of Prince Harry, belong to the Canadian Maison Birks ♦ ︎

When first shown to photographers, Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, did not wear only the ring with three diamonds designed personally by her future wife. The Canadian actress and now Duchess of Sussex, in fact, also wore a pair of 18K yellow gold and Birks opal earrings. The Maison is the oldest in Canada: it was founded in 1879 by Henry Birks in Montreal. Over time, the jewelry has expanded: from a small shop has turned into a large company with stores in Ottawa, Winnipeg and Vancouver, but the jewels are also distributed in Britain. In the company, in 1993, a bit of Italy also entered: Birks, in fact, was sold to the Regaluxe group, led by Lorenzo Rossi di Montelera. But he continued in his rather traditional jewelry production, even if there is no lack of jewels with a more modern shape, in some cases with slightly art déco geometries. I wonder if now the publicized preference of Meghan Markle will take off sales. Alessia Mongrando

The jewels of Meghan Markle

The jewels for the wedding of Meghan Markle with Prince Harry. The royal tiara, the ring of Diana and two Cartier ♦ ︎
It was one of the questions surrounding Meghan Markle’s wedding with Prince Harry. Now the curiosity has been satisfied: the new Duchess of Sussex wore the tiara Diamond Bandeau of the royal collection on her wedding day. In particular it is the tiara in platinum and diamonds in the art deco style that has a long story. In fact, it belonged to Queen Mary and, later to Queen Elizabeth. And, for the occasion, by Harry’s wife, that is also the new Duke of Sussex. The royal tiara was not the only jewel worn by Meghan. Her face was also illuminated by a pair of Cartier earrings from the Windsor collection, while her wrist had a new bracelet, also by Cartier. The choice was not, of course, random.
According to tradition, Meghan has worn something new, something old, something used. And something blue. In the party after the official ceremony, the former actress showed off a ring with a large aquamarine. According to the experts of the royal house, it is the same ring worn by Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, during a private visit from Christie’s in 1997, on the occasion of the auction of her clothes. Perhaps a way to remember Diana too: during the ceremony, a seat was left empty just to remember the missing princess. Giulia Netrese

Wales Ring for Meghan Markle

//

The wedding ring of Meghan Markle will be made in Welsh gold. According to tradition ♦ ︎
The countdown fuels the curiosity about the wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. List of the guests, the dressed and, of course, the jewels, are the result of hypotheses and speculations. A hypothesis, however, is more likely than others and concerns the raw material with which the wedding ring of the prince’s future wife will be made (but not a princess, maybe she will be Duchess of Sussex or another county). In fact, since 1923, the wedding rings for the British royal family have been made with the gold of Clogau St David in Bontddu, Wales, a gold mine now exhausted. The first to use it was George VI for the marriage to Elizabeth Bowes Lyon (ie the Queen Mother, Harry’s great-grandmother).

Anello di Meghan
L’anello di fidanzamento di Meghan Markle

Even though the mine has long since run out, Buckingham Palace had provided themselves with a gold nugget from which to derive the rings. From that nugget, therefore, were created the rings of the Queen Mother (1947), Princess Margaret (1960), Anne (sister of the Queen) (1973) and Diana, Princess of Wales, wife of Charles (1981).
After these marriages, the nugget had to be reduced badly, because in 1981 Queen Elizabeth managed to get another 36 grams of Wales gold. The first wedding ring to be packaged with the new gold supply was the one for Sarah, Duchess of York. It did not bring much good, actually. The marriage between Kate Middleton and Prince William, also celebrated with a gold ring of Clogau, seems to be much better. For the record, in that case the Duchess of Cambridge ring was created by Wartski, an ancient jewelry company founded in Wales in 1865.
There is also a technical detail that should not be underestimated: 21-carat Welsh gold contains a higher percentage of pure gold than the standard one, usually 18-karat. According to the lovers of true British gold, it also has a richer and warmer color. But, since it is purer, it is also more delicate: it is easily scratched. Matilde de Bounvilles

Harry’s ring for Meghan

/

The engagement ring from Prince Harry to Meghan. And the jewels of the British royal family ♦ ︎
It is official: Prince Harry, 32, will marry Meghan Markle, 36 years old. Wedding sets for the spring of 2018. The couple, as they have told all the media, is not traditional. Divorced she, with her ancestors for nothing of blue blood, while he is sixth in the scale of possible future kings of England, and he is younger. After the wedding of Kate Middleton and William, therefore, the lights are ready to illuminate the next princely marriage. With many questions. For example, which jewelry Meghan Markle will be able to compete with Kate? The game has just started. Cambridge’s Duchess, when he was engaged to William, received a sapphire ring, made by London’s jeweler Garrard, who belonged to the groom’s mother, Diana. Meghan, on the other hand, to her first official Harry promised wedding release, showed a ring made using a diamond from Botswana (where the couple was on vacation) accompanied by two other diamonds from Diana’s personal collection. In short, this is something that connects the future Harry Windsor with the groom’s mother.

Real estate
In short, that is the official engagement ring. In family patrimony, however, in the future Harry could find other jewels. Another family ring, for example, belongs to Princess Margaret, who has a ruby surrounded by diamonds in the center, made by Anthony Armstrong-Jones. There are, of course, many other alternatives in real estate. The Queen Mother, who died in 2002, had two engagement rings. The first was a large gold sapphire, later replaced by a pearl surrounded by diamonds in the 1950s.
Windsor’s rings
With a jump back in time, one could remember another wedding between a real British and an American womand, Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson. The king immediately after abdicating gave Wallis (even her divorced) an emerald ring of 19.77 carats. The jewel engraved the words “We are now 27 X 36”, referring to October 27, 1936, the date Wallis obtained his second divorce. The ring belonging to Wallis Simpson was however sold in 1987 for 1, 8 million pounds to a Japanese businessman.
Queen Elizabeth often wears an impressive square cut diamond designed by Prince Phillip. The diamond comes from his mother’s tiara: it is difficult to surrender to Meghan. Yet another ring that is not available is that which belongs to Camilla, wife of Charles, father of Harry. It is an Art Deco ring that formerly belonged to Queen Mother.
Meghan’s jewels
Like Kate Middleton, however, Meghan Markle also loves wearing too precious jewels. For example, in recent years he often wore jewels to a young Australian designer, Natalie Marie, based in Sydney. Natalie sent that to a few months ago was a mere actress some jewels and Meghan posted them on her Instagram account many times with thanksgiving. Margherita Donato
