Tiaras: a brilliant idea

Diadem and tiaras are all the rage, they can be precious or simple bijoux. Here is a selection and advice on how to wear a tiara or a diadem. And not just at the wedding ♦

Today, the word tiara has become synonymous with diadem. The tiara is often translated with a tiara-like word in many languages. Both words, however, derive from the ornaments worn on the head by men and women in antiquity. These ornaments indicated high status. But today this is no longer the case. The tiara is often worn on formal occasions, particularly if the dress code is a white tie, or for ceremonies such as weddings. And not only that: a tiara can also be worn with informal clothing. Of course, in this case, it will be different from the tiara used for a ceremony.

The first woman to minimize the royalty of tiaras, tiaras and crowns, the prerogative of high jewelery and high society, was Courtney Love, in 1995, when she showed up at a concert with a statement circle fakest crystals that looked like diamonds. Something similar to the crown of Miss America, pity the lipstick was deliberately smudged.

It was 20 years ago and now there are girls in New York who do not give up a jewel in the hair even to go to the office, while the fashion designer Vivienne Westwood wears a crown of coral when she goes on a bike ride to London. And so, like Borsalino hat is back in fashion for young men and casual dress, an outfit is not complete if it lacks the right ornament on head.

How to wear the tiara

That, pay attention, is no longer an expression of a rank, but a free choice. The most interesting thing is that the democratization of the tiara has even changed the label of the young princesses and queens in Europe, with Kate Middleton in the head, you should say, rather than the back door, in line with your ears and tilted at least 45 degrees, while the custom would like placed far ahead and almost horizontal. Now that you know even the proper way to bring here is a selection suited to weddings and less formal occasions.

Tiaras are often worn by actresses in movies, comedies and on television. In 2013, Cartier created a replica of the ruby and diamond tiara they had originally made in 1956 for Princess Grace of Monaco for the film Grace of Monaco, starring Nicole Kidman. But the tiaras can also be made of plastic, rhinestones, Swarovski crystals or any other non-precious material. They are worn by women on occasions such as a party or prom. They are also worn by beauty pageant winners and children who dress up as Disney princesses.

If the ring is rainbow

Jewelers offering marriage rings for people of the same sex are on the rise. And men prefer rings made in … ♦

Do you remember Tiffany’s same sex ring campaign ? It’s been all over the newspapers, often with appreciative headlines and even with a hint of cynicism: a step forward for marriage rights or a step forward for sales? In fact, the advertisment has not only expanded this market segment, but actually has identified a new trend: the engagement ring from man to man or woman to woman. Of course, this is a niche, but is growing: for example, legalising gay marriage, in England, Scotland and Wales in 2014, has increased the demand for wedding bands.

And, in fact, if once sales are focused on informal rings as a symbol of a private commitment, now there is a shift to something more institutional, a choice more considered and custom made. Men are looking for something less flashy, but not necessarily less precious: diamonds, pink gold palladium and titanium are at the top of the charts. Customization is the key to win the English customers, who are also interested in the finish, which is polished, matt or brushed finish is not important, but they want to contribute to the design ring. Which brings greater creativity, although jewelers facing so much talent always give the same advice: because it’s supposed to last several years the band should follow personal taste rather than the latest trend.

La firma del registro
The signature on the marriage register

In a female marriage, for now, a trend closer to faith seems to prevail, to the classic wedding ring, a gold circle that symbolizes the union between two people. Even with small variations, for example, with a small diamond set inside the metal band. But, essentially, women seem to prefer more sobriety. It is also an aesthetic question: men have on average larger hands and, therefore, even the rings are larger and are more visible.

Cerimonia di matrimonio gay al femminile
Female wedding ceremony

Although same-sex marriages are now permitted in a large number of countries, it does not seem that a common formula has been codified regarding the jewels to wear, starting with rings. At the moment, in short, a simple transposition of the characteristics for wedding rings used by heterosexual couples prevails. It’s the tradition. But it is said that in the near future the rings may take on a different appearance: it is a universe that is still unexplored.

How to wear jewels, the new rules of etiquette

How many jewels to wear? Does the watch go well with an evening dress? And the rose gold … Six rules to break, but be careful ♦ ︎

Don’t wear a watch in the evening. Diamonds are only allowed after 6pm. Rose gold is of poor quality … These are some of the rules that have been respected by generations of women for many years. Those, at least, of a certain social class. Even today there are those who follow these unwritten precepts. But do they still make sense? Here are six rules that are all or in part outdated and which, therefore, you can safely break. But, be careful: as long as you don’t bury the aesthetic sense.

Rule number 1
Rose gold is not of bad quality

At the beginning of the 19th century, rose gold was very popular in Russia and for this reason it was also known as Russian gold. Pink gold is obtained by adding copper to pure yellow gold. Of course too much copper makes the alloy less valuable (because it contains less yellow gold), but it also gives it a too bright hue. Today, however, this is no longer the case. Rose gold is back in fashion and jewelers carefully dose the amount of copper in order not to obtain an excessively charged color. Therefore, it is better to choose jewelry made with a metal that is not too redish.

Rule number 2
Pearls are worn even before the age of 40

The classic string of pearls around the neck has been the jewel worn by mature women for decades, especially when paired with classic dresses: a cashmere sweater or blouse under a full dress. These have been the uniforms of entire generations. Today, however, pearls are also used by many jewelers in a very creative way, both for very expensive and affordable jewels. And today a pearl necklace can also be worn very well on jeans. So, wear pearls even if you are under 30.

Collana con perle barocche

Rule number 3
When to wear diamonds before 6pm

Know that, according to some, this rule is still in effect. But only a few are required to respect it, for example members of the British royal family. Yes, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle (who probably does not think about it after their farewell in London) cannot wear diamond jewelry before evening, that is by convention before 6pm. With one exception, however: rings are allowed. engagement or diamond jewelry in some particular ceremonies. What about the rest of the world? He certainly doesn’t pay attention to rules like these. Apart from engagement rings, which are always allowed, earrings, necklaces and bracelets can be worn. But only as long as the context is adequate: on the occasion of important shows, elegant parties, ceremonies. In short, diamonds yes, but not to go to the office or go shopping: in this case they are really excessive.

Kate Middleton al Bafta con collana e orecchini di diamanti e smeraldi

Rule number 4
When to wear the watch in the evening

Once leaving the house in the evening meant a special occasion. The watch was worn by her husband or boyfriend, so it was not necessary for a woman to wear it. Fortunately, this is no longer the case. But the watch should be considered, however, as an accessory to coordinate with the rest of the dress. A sporty brown leather strap does not go well with an elegant black evening dress. Better, if anything, a watch with a white or yellow gold mesh strap with a small case. In short, in the era of smartphones, the watch has increasingly an ornamental function: no one leaves their mobile phone at home, while a timepiece can be done without. So if you want to wear it in the evening, consider it as a jewel to coordinate with the occasion.

Rule number 5
How to mix gold and silver

This rule is definitely out of date. There are even jewelers who offer earrings, rings or bracelets made simultaneously in gold and silver. Rather, it is the quality of the jewel that counts. Silver that is passed off as white gold is certainly not a great idea. A design jewel that uses both gold and silver together can be very precious. And different jewels? Also in this case what matters is the combination, the mix of styles that must be pleasant and homogeneous.

Anello in argento, con oro rosa e giallo di Spinelli Kilcollin
Anello in argento, con oro rosa e giallo di Spinelli Kilcollin

Rule number 6
How to wear more than five jewels together

Be careful: turning into a Christmas tree is not advisable even today. But it can be fun to wear lots of different bracelets, or to stack thin rings. This way you can easily cross the roof of five jewels together, but that’s fine. The real problem, if anything, is choosing the right jewelry. Increasing the number is no guarantee of a pleasant effect. For this reason, some jewelers offer jewels that are specially designed to be combined.

Which tiara to choose for the wedding?

Which tiara to choose for the wedding? Better to take some examples from the famous ones. This was explained in a book by Enrica Roddolo, a journalist for Corriere della Sera

It’s better the Halo tiara of Kate (Middleton) or Meander Tiara of Zara (daughter of Princess Anne)? There’s not a Royal wedding without a glittering tiara, as wrote by «Yes! Real weddings, royal weddings», book written by Enrica Roddolo and Giuliana Parabiago (Vallardi). Yeah, but what kind of circle of diamonds, precious stones or pearls choose? Here’s what they chose princesses and queens, as told by the volume about the most fascinating Royal weddings in the history of the twentieth century.

Kate Middleton con la Halo tiara
Kate Middleton con la Halo tiara

The wedding tiara of Kate, dubbed by its creator, the Maison Cartier of Paris, Halo Tiara – shimmering with nearly 800 diamonds round cut and 149 baguette cut – was a gift of love of King George VI for the Queen Mother. And he was commissioned in Paris and worn on various occasions by Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, later better known as the “queen mother”, above the fringe in vogue in the Twenties. Not surprisingly, the 1923 outfit, worn by Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, it seems that the “flappers” dancers. As the daughter of King George, Elizabeth II, he would have raised as a glittering circle to stop his curls resting behind. And, before ending up on the black head of Kate, he had already been given by the queen to her sister Margaret and her daughter Anna.

Zara Phillips
Zara Phillips

Even more fascinating the story, which unfolds over time, of the tiara worn by Zara, the daughter of the Princess Anne, for her “yes”, pronounced in Edinburgh at the end of summer 2011, with the champion of rugby Mike Tindall. It is the Meander Tiara, which is inspired by the clean lines of classical Greek. Not surprisingly, it belonged to the mother of Prince Philip of Greece, Duke of Edinburgh. Ethereal and very classic, the tiara had been given as a wedding gift, just to Elizabeth Princess Alice of Battenberg, who had been married to Prince Andrew of Greece. In fact, Elizabeth did not wore it on and never passed it a few years later a young Princess Anne, who instead has wore it very often enthusiastically.

Meghan Markle con orecchini e tiara

Even the Queen Mother, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, she wore a magnificent tiara for her “yes” to the future George VI: the beautiful Strathmore Rose, handed down over time, in the family. And, again, a bright circle of diamonds and precious stones for many years after will also to choose princesses more unconventional as Sarah Ferguson, who married the Duke of York, Andrew, in 1986, in an ivory dress designed by Lindka Cierach; and then Sophie Rhys-Jones in 1999, for his “yes” to Prince Edward, put on a white dress Samantha Shaw, fluid lines. Until the tiara worn by Kate Middleton also, for the “yes” of 2011.

Sofia di Borbone
Sofia di Borbone

And in Spain, the Bourbon court? In 1962 Sofia was married to a king without a kingdom, but on his head shone a magnificent tiara. To bring at the altar Juan Carlos – he was only the son of the Count of Barcelona, and was away the throne of the Bourbons that he would resume only in the seventies, after the death of General Franco – Sofia had to agree to three weddings. The royal house of the Greek Orthodox faith, the Catholic beliefs of Juan Carlos and in the midst of a thousand other political and diplomatic issues, including discontent Greek opposition that presaged trouble, made inevitable that complex ceremonial. The same tiara, May 22, 2004, framed the face of Letizia. Yet, little else unites those distant orange blossom sixties between Juan Carlos and Sofi to ones, still fragrant, between Felipe and Letizia. A tiara-love relationship between generations.

Things to know about wedding ring

/

Why is the wedding ring worn right on the ring finger (in many Western countries)? It’s a long, but interesting story. Here’s what you need to know about the wedding ring ♦

1 A magical story. In ancient times, the ring finger was considered magical in many cultures. This is shown still by many names given to this part of the hand, in several languages. In Chinese, the ring finger is 无名指, ie a finger without a name. Even in Sanskrit, the ancient language widespread in India, the name for the ring finger is anamika (unnamed). In the past it was also a widespread belief that from ring finger was departed a vein that went straight to the heart. No coincidence that vein was called amoris vena, that is, in Latin, “vein of love”. Consequently, the wedding ring was worn right on the fourth finger of the left hand.

2 From the Romans to the Middle Ages. The ring on the ring finger of the left hand was already in vogue at the time of the ancient Romans. The wedding ring, annulus pronubis, it was the beginning of iron and then gold. It was donated by the groom during the engagement ceremony. Only in the Middle Ages, after the year one thousand, was introduced the custom to bless the wedding ring on bride’s finger and insert this in a religious ceremony. In medieval Europe, in the Christian marriage has become a tradition to give the ring. At first it was inserted in sequence on the index finger, middle and ring fingers of the left hand. In the end, the ring was left on the ring finger. But theoretically, in England the choice of the finger is free: the 1549 Prayer Book states that “the ring should be placed on the left hand,” without specifying the finger.

3 Vive la difference. In any case, not in all countries the wedding ring is worn on the left hand. In some European countries, the ring is worn on the left hand before marriage, but then transferred to the right during the ceremony. A bride who follows the rite greek-orthodox (in Greece or Russia, for example), wearing the ring on the left hand before the ceremony, then moves it to the right after the cerimony.

4 Turn right. In the countries of Orthodox Christian ritual, but also some of the Roman Catholics or Protestants, the wedding ring is worn on the ring finger of the right hand. You must behave in this way if you marry in Serbia, Bulgaria, Armenia, Russia, Greece, Georgia, Ukraine, Poland, Austria, Hungary, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Spain, Venezuela.

5 Who goes to the left. The ring on the left hand instead remains in Italy, Ireland, Sweden, Croatia, Slovenia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Mexico, Australia, South Africa, Canada, New Zealand, United States and United Kingdom. Even if somebody wear it on your right hand. Brazil is in the middle: the ring is worn on the right hand until the day of the wedding, when it is moved to the left hand.

6 Third Way. There are traditions which have a different choice from ring finger: in the ceremonies of the Jewish wedding, the ring is placed on the index finger, although other customs may require the use of the middle finger or thumb. Today many Jews usually move the jewel to the ring finger after the ceremony.

Anello sul dito indice

7 Unsure. The wedding ring is not part of the traditional Muslim religious marriage. But there who want to wear it or give it away it away as a testimony of love. In this case, in an Islamic country, the ring can be worn on the left hand (in Iran) or on the right ring finger. In Islamic countries it is still very popular to give the engagement ring. Even in India the rings are not a tradition in marriage, even though the practice is spreading, as a token of love. The men generally wear rings on their right hands and left hands on women.

In questo caso, in un paese islamico l’anello può essere indossato sia sulla mano sinistra (in Iran) o sul dito anulare destro

8 Right or Left? Depends: there are good reasons for choosing one or the other hand. On the right is more noticeable, since most people use this hand to move objects or greet. By contrast, the ring on the right  will wear before and, if you have set a stone, there is a risk to bump and ruin the jewel.

Mayumi’s new pearls

/

Fasoli Gioielli, a company from Verona, is famous for its brand entirely dedicated to pearls: Mayumi. The Maison continually renews its collections based on the pearly fruit of oysters, and often mounted on jewels even in pink, mauve or black versions. Freshwater pearls are mounted on gold or 925 rhodium silver, an aspect that helps to maintain affordable prices. Mayumi’s experience began in 1985 in one of the largest pearls farms in Japan: the founder Alberto Fasoli learned all the secrets of the trade here and discovered the restricted pearl market. In 1991 the entrepreneur then transformed his company from a simple importer to a producer of pearl jewelery.

The name of the Venetian brand is composed of Ma, which in Japanese means bow, and Yumi which means strength. The basic idea of Mayumi, in short, is that of a tribute to nature which, in the depths of the waters of distant countries, gives life to pearls, a symbol of perfection and purity. The pale spheres are then used to make jewelry with a modern but classic style.

What jewelry to wear at the wedding

x

What jewelry to wear on your wedding day? If you are thinking about what to choose besides the wedding ring, read this article. The first rule is … ♦

You have identified the dress. You decided the banquet room. You have found an agreement (tiring) about the guest list. One question remains: which jewels to wear on the wedding day? All right, there’s the wedding ring, but then? If you have any doubts here are 9 useful tips.

Anello nuziale sulla mano sinistra
Anello nuziale

1 Match fabrics and gold. Gold also has a color: it can be white, yellow or pink. If the gold color matches that of the dress the effect will be better. Did you think about it? The ivory color of a fabric, for example, is best combined with yellow gold, because it is in nuance with the shade of the fabric. If the dress is candid without shades, it is best combined with white gold or platinum and maybe even with silver, provided it is of design. Beware of pearls: even those small balls can be more or less white and match with the dress. Pink gold goes better with a colorful dress: not all of them are married in white, right? Another thing to keep an eye on: often the wedding dresses are adorned with beads or silver decorations: in this case the jewels must be coordinated with the type of precious decor chosen.

Gioielli abbinati con il colore del tessuto

2 We must not overdo it. Even if you have lots of jewels in your drawer, or you have the option to buy them at will, on your wedding day, it’s best not to look like a Christmas tree. It is not necessary to wear diadem, earrings, necklace, bracelet and perhaps other rings at the same time. Better to choose one or two quality jewels, but that are appropriate with the dress. The old “less si more” is also valid when you get married.

Per i gioielli nel giorno del matrimonio vince sempre la semplicità

3 Earrings only if … You must pay attention to the earrings: not only must they be in tone with the rest of the clothing, but also to the shape of the face. They could also be too much, for example, if you have opted for a very rich tiara.

4 Simple necklace. A necklace is almost obligatory along with a dress with a neckline. A thin chain with a not too big pendant is as good as the classic string of pearls, single or double. Those who have a thin and slender neck can also venture into the choice of a choker, provided that it is coordinated with the dress and does not seem to be found by chance in the jeweltrunk of the grandmother. No necklace, however, in the case of a one-shoulder dress.

5 No watches. The time has come to say “yes”. But just this day is not the case to consult the watch, do you agree? Others will think of telling you not to go too early or late. If you feel the need to wear something on your wrist, better a bracelet that matches your dress. Remember that the hands are very photographed on the wedding day: one more reason for a reasoned choice of the bracelet that must be in tune with the ring.

6 Respect the times. There is nothing worse than to be at the last moment for the choice of jewels: they are a fundamental part of the look for an equally fundamental day of life. Choose and try the pairings at least three months before.

Il rischio di arrivare alla vigilia del matrimonio senza l’anello

7 Budget. It is not the case to wear so many cheap jewels. If your wallet does not allow you a large expense, better to choose one only, but of quality: it will remain with you the rest of your life and it is a small investment.

8 Tiara yes or not? The diadem in the shape of a small circle or crown, decorated with pearls, precious stones or flowers, is the jewel that is more visible than others. Therefore, great caution is needed in the choice, also because a tiara risks overwhelming the effect of the dress. First of all, the diadem should be coordinated with the dress: for example, if the dress has beads, even the diadem will use pearls. Moreover, it is certainly combined with other jewels: usually a tiara is in silver or white gold. Pay attention that the color corresponds to that of earrings or of the bracelet, if you wear one. Another important point: the diadem must correspond to the quantity and type of hair. Needless to wear a small circle between a mass of curly hair: it will disappear. Finally: it is absolutely necessary to try the tiara first, and with the type of hairstyle of the hair that will be used on the wedding day. When you do the test, wear it for a while, to see if it’s comfortable or turn into a mechanism that causes a headache.

Una tiara può anche essere un semplice cerchio con perline
Un diadema può anche essere un semplice cerchio con perline

9 Choose the ring. It seems obvious, yet there are those who are reduced at the last moment in choosing the ring to be exchanged at the time of “yes”. It is a mistake: that ring will be the most worn jewel in the years to come, better to weigh well the purchase. It is said that the ring should be a simple yellow gold faith: now there are wedding rings in all three colors of gold. There are also those who choose a ring with colored stones but, in that case, it is more difficult to combine with the dress and everything else. A useful tip: consider the type of work or habitual occupation and choose a ring that allows you freedom of movement or do not risk ruining yourself with daily use.

Marriage in jewelry, there are those who do it

/

The Helzberg Diamonds chain of jewelery stores offers the possibility of getting married directly in the shop (after buying wedding rings) ♦ ︎

The story told by the New York Times is perhaps a sign of the times: in the US to attract customers, jewelers also organize a wedding directly in the store. Naturally, thanks to the American laws that allow it.

Scambio di anelli
Scambio di anelli

Helzberg Diamonds, a Kansas City-based company that controls 216 stores throughout the United States, offers the chance to say yes to the counter selling wedding rings. With a service that started on October 2nd, Helzberg Diamonds offers couples who buy wedding rings in one of its stores the opportunity to get married with the blessing of special sales agents who are licensed to officiate the ceremony. In the era of Instagram, where speed prevails, buying faiths and getting married at the same time can appeal to many. Of course, the pleasure of the ceremony is lost.

But Beryl Raff, managing director and president of Helzberg, thinks it’s funny. The idea, it seems, was born after, over the years, several couples got married directly in the Helzberg Diamonds jewelers. But, in addition to appearing with the marriage license, necessary to obtain the legal validity of the marriage, these couples also brought an authorized officiant. Now this will no longer be necessary, the company offers.

Before introducing this service, the jewelry company conducted a survey of 1,000 young people and adults aged 23 to 38 years. Result: 91% hoped to get married and considered the possibility of secretly escaping to get married, especially without parental consent. But also to save money and avoid an expensive ceremony. In addition, 56% said they preferred that the marriage be officiated by someone other than a religious. In short, they like fast marriage. How to take a selfie.

Rings inspired by the shape of DNA, the double helix that is the basis of life: it is the idea of the Japanese artist Takayas Mizuno ♦

A jeweler who is also an Artist Ikebana (teacher of Japanese flower arrangement): Takayas Mizuno, based in Los Angeles, is no ordinary designer. He grew up in Tokyo, world traveler, and in the United States has joined the tradition of the composition of Ikebana, with the composition-based of gemstone jewelry. Takayas decided to add to its line of jewelry a small collection of rings and earrings that have design as that of the DNA.

This “biological brick” that is the basis of the characteristics of each human being (each has a different DNA by the other) has the shape of a double helix. And since the marriage, or at least the union of two people in love should last eternity, the double helix symbolizes infinity and at the same time his own personality. Rings and earrings are available in silver versions 14K, 18K gold, and platinum. The rings are decorated with diamonds. Giulia Netrese

What a surprise Eugenie’s tiara

/

The long story of the tiara chosen by Princess Eugenie for the wedding ♦ ︎

Everyone looked her, the tiara. The marriage between Princess Eugenie, second-born of Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, with Jack Brooksbank, manager of a company of spirits, has attracted the glances on the dress, but also on the jewels worn by the young bride.

The tiara whic she wore is owned by Queen Elizabeth, who lent her to the niece for the occasion.

But it’s not just any tiara: it has a story. It is, in fact, the Greville Emerald Kokoshnik tiara, created by Boucheron in 1919.

It is made of platinum and rose cut diamonds, with an enormous 93.70 carat emerald in the center, plus six other smaller emeralds on the sides.

Il bacio dopo la cerimonia

This jewel was part of the so-called Greville legacy, a special collection of jewelry left to Queen Mother by Margaret Greville. She was the wife of a politician, Ronald Greville, was part of the good London society as and she was a intimate friend of Queen Mary. When the Queen Mother died in 2002, Elizabeth inherited the tiara in addition to other jewels.
The choice of this tiara surprised the experts of the royal family, who had predicted that the choice would fall on the diadem of York, made by Garrard for the wedding day of Sarah Ferguson, in 1986.

Rings for asymmetrics bridal

The asymmetric rings of the British designer (awarded at Couture 2016) Polly Wales ♦

Are you getting married? You have an engagement you want to seal with a jewel? Take a look at the designer who in 2016 won the Couture Awards in Las Vegas for the bridal category: Polly Wales. If you like her jewelry, you can also buy them online (the headquarters of the Maison are in the UK). Designer and owner of the brand that bears her name, says she prefers an natural “imperfect beauty ” to the  mass produced jewelry. Polly studied jewelery at the Royal College of Art, in London, and before that she was focusing on sculpture. But the jewels, she explains, have enabled her to get in touch directly with people. Her style? It’s a mix that also includes Byzantine and Indian jewelry. The shapes of the rings, even the engagement and wedding ones, are slightly irregular, and small stones embedded in the metal are arranged without always having the usual symmetry. But this doesn’t make them seem less valuable: white, yellow or pink gold is matched with sapphires, diamonds and rubies. And even the solitaires are rather original. Margherita Donato

Kate Middleton’s jewels

The jewels of Kate Middleton are not just those of the royal family. Here are the favorite jewelry brands from Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge ♦

When he was born the eldest son, George, Kate Middleton presented herself to the public with the royal baby and ring that William gave her for the engagement. And with the birth of the second child, the ritual is again repeated. And the one worn by Kate is not ring whichever: it is a jewel with a big sapphire and diamonds, belonged to William’s mother, Princess Diana. And it is the engagement ring that Diana Spencer received in turn by Charles. After the death of Diana, Charles gave the ring to his eldest son, who in turn gave it to Kate when he asked her to marry him. To be precise, the ring was made by Garrard, who claims to be “the oldest jewelery in the world”: although the definition seems risky (the Mellerios were in Paris already in the seventeenth century), but the house has solid traditions, since it was founded in London by George Wickes Garrard in 1735. The Duchess of Cambridge, wife of William, second in line of succession to the throne of England, after his father, Charles, has a passion for jewelry . But not only for those very precious that has received with the princely marriage. Kate Middleton, in fact, also likes to wear the jewelry of Zara, or those of the online boutique Merci Maman. Or, again, the jewels of Monica Vinader, that Kate wore before the wedding and the jewelry of Claudia Bradby, who is a personal friend of the princely couple Williams and Kate Middleton. Wales Ring for Meghan Markle

//

The wedding ring of Meghan Markle will be made in Welsh gold. According to tradition ♦ ︎
The countdown fuels the curiosity about the wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. List of the guests, the dressed and, of course, the jewels, are the result of hypotheses and speculations. A hypothesis, however, is more likely than others and concerns the raw material with which the wedding ring of the prince’s future wife will be made (but not a princess, maybe she will be Duchess of Sussex or another county). In fact, since 1923, the wedding rings for the British royal family have been made with the gold of Clogau St David in Bontddu, Wales, a gold mine now exhausted. The first to use it was George VI for the marriage to Elizabeth Bowes Lyon (ie the Queen Mother, Harry’s great-grandmother).

Anello di Meghan
L’anello di fidanzamento di Meghan Markle

Even though the mine has long since run out, Buckingham Palace had provided themselves with a gold nugget from which to derive the rings. From that nugget, therefore, were created the rings of the Queen Mother (1947), Princess Margaret (1960), Anne (sister of the Queen) (1973) and Diana, Princess of Wales, wife of Charles (1981).
After these marriages, the nugget had to be reduced badly, because in 1981 Queen Elizabeth managed to get another 36 grams of Wales gold. The first wedding ring to be packaged with the new gold supply was the one for Sarah, Duchess of York. It did not bring much good, actually. The marriage between Kate Middleton and Prince William, also celebrated with a gold ring of Clogau, seems to be much better. For the record, in that case the Duchess of Cambridge ring was created by Wartski, an ancient jewelry company founded in Wales in 1865.
There is also a technical detail that should not be underestimated: 21-carat Welsh gold contains a higher percentage of pure gold than the standard one, usually 18-karat. According to the lovers of true British gold, it also has a richer and warmer color. But, since it is purer, it is also more delicate: it is easily scratched. Matilde de Bounvilles

Bliss makes Lumina between him and her

The Bliss Lumina jewelery line: white gold and diamonds for engagement or marriage (and not only) ♦ ︎
When it comes to classics, it means something that lasts over time, which has already been appreciated, which can be re-proposed because it will be valid even in later years. This is the case for the Bliss Classic Line, which is part of the bridal line, and is intended to offer jewelery from universally accepted modes such as solitaire ring, but at an affordable price. In short, the classic jewelery for engagement or marriage. The Classic Line consists of three different collections. The most large is Lumina, now proposed with a new frame that captures a stone embedded. The frame is in 18 carat gold. Lumina also includes particularly elaborate rings, with diamonds running even wrapped around the curved jewel of the jewel. It is a complete jewelery line that, in addition to the rings, also includes spot light earrings and pendant necklaces, always centered on the brightness of the stone. On the other hand, the name of the collection leaves no room for doubt: the objective, achieved, is to tame the light, let it pass through the worn jewels and reflect it. Margherita Donato

48 ciak for Recarlo

The love statement (with ring) seen by 42 filmmakers for Recarlo ♦ ︎
There is nothing better than a video to communicate something. There is nothing better than a ring to communicate love. The union between these two factors is the contest has involved 42 filmmakers from 11 countries, including Italy, the United States, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Spain and Russia. The young directors have produced 48 short films. Promoter of this film festival is Recarlo. The theme of the movies was, in fact, a story where the protagonist is Anniversary, a ring by Piedmont Maison and, of course, he and she. The lonely is the 18ct white gold ring with round cut diamond, the classic engagement ring. Every filmmaker has interpreted the fateful moment of the ring statement in a different way: there are those who chose the classic romantic atmosphere, who used a bit of humor, who opted for the surprise.
The winner was Photo Boot, a film by Russian director Andranik Saatchyan: the action takes place in a photo box, selfie style. The second acknowledgment went to Night Light by Italian director Marcello Di Noto, which transforms a homely intimacy into an exciting statement with a sixties soundtrack. On the podium also Il Sogno Recarlo, signed by another Italian, the actor and filmmaker Giulio Scarano. Here are the movies.
