From the center of Brazil, the Hueb brand has conquered the United States and the Middle East with its lively and refined jewelery
Brazil is one of the richest country of gemstones. It is not surprising that from Brazil come designers also with high-level. Like Cristina and Rogério Hueb, who in 1987 founded their Hueb jewelry brand in the city of Uberaba, in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, one of the high-density mining areas. But since 1970 the matriarch, Fádua Hueb, had begun selling jewels to his friends, with a success that gave life to the business.

Today, Hueb’s flagship store is located in downtown Manhattan, in Madison Avenue. As of 2010, the brand has focused on developing the Middle East market in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Kuwait and Doha. In 2012, Hueb opened its first Dubai international retail store. Obviously, in Hueb’s jewelery, precious stones are never missing, first the diamonds. Like in the Luminus collection, which combines a glittering design with a lightweight look.

Ondyn’s jewels, winner of the Couture Design Awards in the Best in Diamonds Below $40,000 Retail category.

Ondyn, the creature of New Yorker Tara Maria Famiglietti, has distant origins. Tara’s father created bespoke suits and shoes for Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, John Lennon and Jimmy Hendrix. Her mother and aunt owned the Boutique Menage at Trois on Madison Avenue, New York, and designed dresses for Diana Ross, Bianca Jagger, Barbara Streisand and Diane von Furstenberg. She, the founder of Ondyn, started making jewelry at the age of twenty. Her contemporary jewelry Maison uses diamonds and 14 or 18 carat gold, accompanied by diamonds set to form long threads that are used for necklaces, rings or earrings.

Tara graduated with a degree in jewelry design from New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, she has collaborated with some of the big names in the fashion industry to create pieces that have been sold in exclusive boutiques and department stores around the world. Alongside her jewels, she also cultivates another passion: the sea. For a while, the designer lived on a sailboat, traveling across the French Riviera, the Amalfi Coast, the Balearic Islands, the African Coast and the Caribbean. And it is no coincidence that her brand is called Ondyn (a name that resembles the Italian word onda, wave). And, after all, New York is also a seaside city.

The image that is fashionable now is that of a designer who looks a lot like a model (in some cases it was also) that designs very minimal jewelry or, on the contrary, with a wild imagination. Very active on social media, this type of designer is also at home on the social occasions of London, Paris, Milan, New York. There is, however, another type of designer, who is represented by Renee Lewis. Gray hair, 40 years of professional background, large bracelets and wristbands that clink to the wrist: Renee Lewis lives and works in New York. But she has not forgotten Lisbon, a small town in Ohio where she was born and where recently she has restored a period building, turned into a restaurant and bar.

Renee Lewis has been working in Manhattan for decades, making jewelry in platinum or 18k gold, with diamonds and rubies that are reused from vintage and antique jewelry. before becoming a jewelry designer she painted, sculpted and made furniture. The most famous collection is called Shake and uses small free gems that float inside a faceted crystal case. She claims that it is not a habit: “The newly extracted diamonds are often altered through heat treatment or the filling of imperfections with the laser. Their reflections may seem artificial,” she explains. A risk that do not run the diamonds mined decades ago.

It is a cascade of diamonds the one that Casato chooses for his new collection New York-New York, inspired by the Manhattan skyline. Its sinuous lines lie on hands, fingers and décolleté, and remind of the city landmark skyscraper, for years the world’s tallest building: strands of stones of different lengths, set on white gold, outline the Empire State Building’s flagpole and terrace upside down. From brilliant flashes of diamonds to the sheen of sapphires, emeralds and rubies: Noor, which in Persian means light, is the collection of colors. Gems set in pink gold featuring volumetric feathers and leaves with a a sense of lightness, due to the contrast between blue, green and red stones with black metal bezels and with white diamonds on the extremity.
