//

The 18.96 carat pink diamond costs like other 310 jewels auctioned by Christie’s in Geneva ♦ ︎

Total of the sale inclusive of the buyer’s premium: 110.211.750 Swiss francs approximately 96 million euros, equivalent to 108 million dollars. Very. But it makes an impression that half of this mountain of money resulting from Christie’s Geneva Magnificent Jewels auction is the result of a single jewel: The Pink Legacy, a 18.96-light-pink rectangular cut diamond, mounted on platinum.

The stone, of an exceptional size, of a vivid color, with a perfect appearance, in short, has been evaluated 50 millions, as the all other 310 jewels put up for sale. It was purchased by Harry Winston.

They were purchased for around 4.5 million dollars. The Egyptian-style pendant necklace by Van Cleef & Arpels, made in 1924, has surpassed the expectations. It is made up of antique and rose cut diamonds, cabochon and calibré rubies, cabochons and emeralds, gilt, onyx, platinum and gold. The diamond of Cardinal Mazarino

The diamond of Cardinal Mazarino, from the four Musketeers to Christie’s auction ♦
Cardinal Mazarino, in addition to being a character used by Alexandre Dumas in his novels with the four Musketeers, was really a great statista. Giulio Raimondo Mazzarino, born in Pescina (Abruzzo, Italy) in 1602, also known as the Franch name of Jules Raymond Mazarin, was a kind of Prime Minister of Louis XIV and, at the death of the king, became in practice the regent of France. He left as inheritance to the mortals not only an intense and important political life, but also a diamond. And now this diamond is auctioned out by Christie’s on November 14 in Geneva. The stone is called Grand Mazarin and was part of the jewelery of the Crown of France.
The name sparks the fantasy, but in any case the stone is of value: it is a fancy pink diamond of 19.07 carats. It was extracted in the now depleted mines of Golconda, India, and was part of the crown treasure. Hand by hand, in 1810 the diamond was worn by Empress Maria Luisa, mounted on a tiara on commission by Napoleon I at jeweler François Regnault Nitot. Napoleon III then handed it over to Empress Eugenia. The Grand Mazarin was auctioned in 1887 and bought by the great jeweler Frédéric Boucheron. In 1962 he came back to the fore, until he was bought by a private person in Europe. The same one that now sells the diamond from Christie’s. The estimate varies between 6 and 9 million dollars. Van Cleef & Arpels wins the heart

At Christie’s, Van Cleef & Arpels diamond beats the heart shaped diamond. Here are the results of the Magnificent Jewels auction ♦
Christie’s closes the Magnificent Jewels auction in New York with a result of $ 35.2 million, with 90% of the sold lots and 85% in value. The day’s champion was the Lot 151, which was a Van Cleef & Arpels ring with an emerald-cut, D-color, perfect inside, of about 22 carats. The jewel was sold for $ 2.6 million, almost the top of the range of the starting estimate. A ring with diamonds and a big ruby of 8,6 karat, however, in proportion was go better: estimated at between $ 600 and $ 800,000, it has touched the 2 million. It is no finish interest to pink diamonds. A ring with a pink diamond with an unusual rectangular cut with beveled corners of over 3 carats was beaten for 1.9 million.
There was a lot of curiosity on the auction, also for a heart-cut stone: a 15.87-carat diamond suspended from a platinum chain. It was sold in compliance with forecasts for $ 1.86 million. Finally, a Cartier bracelet of 1930s, platinum and diamonds, Art Deco style: sold for $ 991,000. Tom Burstein, head of Christie’s jewelery department in the US: “Our goal was to align the contents of the April auction with what is currently in demand and provide estimates that fit well into the context of today’s market prices. This approach led to a very strong sell-through resulting from competitive bidding on diamonds, colored stones and signed jewelry, thereby demonstrating strengths in the most vital areas of the jewelry market.” Federico Graglia

The 5.3 million earrings

The six-faced emerald beaten by a pair of diamond earrings at Sotheby’s auction in New York ♦
The emerald Stotesbury, mounted on a ring with diamonds, designed by Harry Winston, was sold by Sotheby’s for $ 996,500, halfway through the starting estimate ($ 800,000 to $ 1.2 million). The colombian emerald from the unusual hexagonal cut, 34.40 carats, were part of an agreement involving the Hope diamond, which was signed 100 years ago between Cartier and hereditary Evalyn Walsh McLean. His intricate history, as well as his original form, had attracted attention to the auction held in New York.
The real big bang, instead, was done with a pair of earrings, with two 20-carat diamond, emerald cut, D, impeccable, sold at about $ 5.3 million, almost at the most of the initial estimate. With this contribution, Sotheby’s totalized totaled 29 million at Magnificent Jewels auction, with 85% of the sold lots. The earrings were bought by an anonymous Asian collector, who paid $ 131,481 per carat.

The adventures of an hexagon-shaped emerald

An hexagon-shaped Classic Colombian emerald with an adventure story and other great pieces at auction at Sotheby’s ♦
The emeralds are usually cut with a roughly rectangular shape. Exceptions are rare. One of these is the Stotesbury emerald, one of the pieces put up for auction at Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels in New York on April 25. But the most surprising aspect is that, beside the rare hexagon-shaped this stone, there is a rather complicated and charming story. The 34.4 carat Colombian emerald, which has a sales estimate 800,000 to 1,2 million dollars, looks back on a path that began in 1908, when Cartier used it for a necklace intended heir of a mining empire, Evalyn Walsh McLean.
The emerald was combined with a diamond of 94.8 carats. Three years later, the Parisian house and Miss Walsh McLean, however, have started a dispute which ended in 1912 with emerald regained control of Cartier. Then the stone was purchased by Eva Stotesbury (hence the name), wife of a wealthy banker of Philadelphia. In 1946 the family sold the stone to the New York jeweler Harry Winston, which has mounted ring and sold it to Bonfils Stanton, another lady of high society. It was sold again and has been part of a private collection since 1971.
The emerald Stotesbury, in any case is not the only piece of rod class. There are, for example, 12 historic pieces of designer Louis Comfort by Tiffany. Or it should be noted a ring with a rare diamond from 1.64 carat Fancy Vivid Green, and a crossover ring set with two Fancy Vivid Blue diamond. Besides valuable piece are a pair of earrings with square emerald cut diamonds, both more than 20 carats and classified as D color, Internally Flawless, lla type with excellent finish and symmetry. Betsy lights Christie’s

The Betsy Bloomingdale jewels illuminate the Christie’s auction in New York, but the top lot is a platinum ring.
The jewels belonged to Betsy Bloomingdale were sold out. Stones and jewels were of excellent quality and, perhaps, also the history of these pieces auctioned at Christie’s in New York fascinated buyers. They were eventually collected over $ 4 million from the sale of these Magnificent Jewels. Betty Lee Newling, Betsy, had married Alfred Bloomingdale, heir to the dynasty that gave birth to Bloomingdale stores. In america was a well known couple. She died last summer at age 93. Her ring with diamond from 1.29 carat, pear-cut, flanked by three baguette diamonds, was sold for 1.9 million dollars was the fourth in the sale price. A diamond necklace signed Harry Winston has instead been sold for 1 million. Always the same jeweler was for sale a pair of earrings with diamond pendants, each with marquise and pear cut diamonds group: they were beaten at $ 487,500, while a diamond brooch rose from pre-sale estimate of 150,000 dollars at a price of 223,500. But the top lot was a platinum ring with a 51.35 carat diamond, rectangular cut, sold for 5.6 million, followed by a ring of cushion-cut sapphire of 75.41 carats, went to 3.8 million. Sotheby’s is more pink than blue

Festival of pink and blue diamonds at auction by Sotheby’s in Geneva of Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels.
The diamond Sky Blue (8 carats), Fancy Vivid, mounted on a ring with two other colorless stones, highlight of the sale, was sold for 17.1 million dollars. He must have breathed a sigh of relief rod hitter in Geneva of Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels. The blue diamond, in fact, had focused the attention of the media. But everything went smoothly: the sale of jewels totaled 136.4 million dollars, a figure that rises jewelry sales of the 2016 auction house to the record level to 311.5 million, exceeding the 300 million in last year.
“Tonight’s result is a great finalé to what has been yet another phenomenal year for jewellery in Geneva. Earlier this year, in May, we set a world record for any jewellery sale, and tonight the momentum continued, making 2016 the second record year in a row for Geneva. The very best coloured diamonds of all hues remain highly desirable, but tonight pink and blue were undoubtedly the hottest colours accounting for many of the top prices this evening, with new records set for deep blue, fancy light blue and light pink diamonds, and with the fabulous Sky Blue diamond selling for US$ 17.1m – an increase of over 30% on the US$ 12.8m it realised at Sotheby’s in 2012” said David Bennett, chairman of the International Division of Sotheby’s Jewellery.
Several records
But the piece that got the higher price was not the blue diamond, but pink. A Fancy Intense pink was sold for 20.8 million dollars (1.2 million per carat). Perhaps foreseeing this exploit Bennet wore a tie with the same color. Another diamond Internally Flawless 13.20 carat Fancy Intense Pink has reached 16.2 million. Both of these diamonds were acquired by Graff Diamonds. Still pink: a new auction record was set for a Fancy Light Pink Diamond pear-shaped weighing 40.30 carats sold for 7.5 million.
In addition to the Sky Blue Diamond, it was also sold a Fancy Deep Blue. To conquer it came forward nine bidders: After a battle of raises, the diamond was sold for 13.7 million, a new record for a blue debb all types (1.7 million per carat). It’s not over: a second record he did score a Fancy Light Blue Diamond, sold for 2.2 million. Federico Graglia

The diamond named after the previous owner, Sir Philip Oppenheimer, a member of the family that once controlled the De Beers Mining Company. Federico Graglia

Sotheby’s, diamond record: 22 million

And it is a perfect stone, as it is defined by Gary Schuler, head of jewelry department in New York, with its color D, which is the maximum for colorless diamonds, a kind of white blue, Internally Flawless then without internal blemishes, and so clear that it can be compared to water ice. In practice, a great gem. So, the world trip to attract wealthy buyers has been effective. Wallis Simpson all’asta da Christie’s

About King Edward VIII and his abdication the throne to marry an American divorcee, Wallis Simpsons, we know everything, less known is the great love and subsequent marriage between the soprano Sarah Brightman and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
