Vrai’s green choice

For some years the world of jewelry has been divided in two: on the one hand those who support the use of artificially created diamonds with sophisticated machinery, on the other those who do not want to give up natural diamonds, extracted from the earth. Vrai is a jewelry brand that has chosen to use diamonds created in the laboratory. At the base is the initiative of Martin Roscheisen, an Austrian-American entrepreneur. Roscheisen was among the first to understand the commercial potential of the Internet in the late 1990s, and he was also one of the first Silicon Valley entrepreneurs to focus on green energy technology. In 2015, Roscheisen launched Diamond Foundry, with backing from Leonardo DiCaprio, and in November 2016, Diamond Foundry bought jewelry brand Vrai.

The brand is keen to underline the green aspect: Vrai diamonds are produced by Diamond Foundry in Wenatchee, in the State of Washington, USA, using 100% hydroelectric energy. The company has been Carbon Neutral certified since 2017. Vrai’s jewels are made of 14-karat gold, with a modern, fairly simple design. The 14 carats together with laboratory diamonds allows prices to be contained: a gold ring with a 0.5 carat stone, sold online, is offered at around 1500 dollars.

A ring made from a single diamond, even if artificial. It is designed by the designer father of iPhone, iMac, iPad … This exceptional creation will be on sale on December 5 in Miami, in an auction organized by Sotheby’s. The proceeds will go to charity, for an organization, Red, which deals with AIDS patients.

The ring was designed by Apple’s chief design officer, Sir Jony Ive, in collaboration with industrial designer Marc Newsom.

The artificial diamond, on the other hand, was produced by Diamond Foundry. The ring has no metallic part. Diamond Foundry is the leading American producer of stone produced in the laboratory and aims to present itself as a sustainable company. It boasts the star of Blood Diamond and among the shareholders there is Leonardo DiCaprio, who was the protagonist of a film about the extraction of illegal diamonds.

The diamond used for the ring is about 45 carats, one of the largest laboratory stones in the world.

The ring, however, does not yet exist: if a buyer is found, the rough diamond created in the laboratories of the Bay Area of Diamond Foundry will be sent to master cutters in Antwerp to be customized to the extent of the finger of the new owner.
To realize the ring’s design, which has 2-3,000 almost microscopic facets, Ive and Newsom have also designed special tools, including a device that will project a laser beam through a micrometric water jet to create the cylindrical cut of the interior ring. The price? Among 150000 and 250000 dollars. Cosimo Muzzano

The Oscars of the jewels

Who won the Oscar of the jewelry? Whenever the headlights are lit on the most famous awards, attention also focuses on dresses and jewelry of movie stars. But for 2016, perhaps, it will remain the memory of the jewels of two pop star, Lady Gaga and Priyanka Chopra. Both wore jewelry that have left gaping. Lady Gaga wore a set of earrings with emerald cut diamonds estimated $ 8 million. Yes, 8 million. It was slightly less than the value of the jewels of the Indian model and singer Priyanka Chopra, since the earrings with diamonds 50 carat Lorraine Schwartz, valued at more than $ 3 million, as well as diamond rings, including a 10-carat value rose $ 850,000, and another 8 carats from 300,000, plus a fancy pink 20-carat Golconda. In short, he had on his hands a total of 67 carats with a value of about 2.5 million.
In comparison of this, the jewels to 2.8 million of Chrissy Teigen seemed a small thing (so to speak). Others spotted jewelry on the red carpet: Sofia Vergara chose Lorraine Schwartz earrings with sapphires 65 carat next to diamonds. Heidi Klum showed the rings she wore diamond 20, 12 and 16 carats on Instagram. Kate Winslet, before embracing Leonardo DiCaprio, has hooked earrings Indian brand Nirav Modi. He could not miss, obviously, Tiffany, worn by Cate Blanchett, Reese Witherspoon, Sophie Turner and Liev Schreiber. In particular, Cate Blanchett wore a bracelet, a ring and earrings in the collection Blue Book 2016, while Reese Witherspoon opted for bracelets and earrings with diamonds and a platinum ring with tsavorite. Sophie Turner has completed her look with a necklace, earrings and ring with diamonds, more and Tiffany, while Liev Schreiber has worn a watch Tiffany CT60. Finally, Elizabeth Banks wore jewels in platinum and diamond Tiffany & Co. Lavinia Andorno
