Ieg changes the manager of Vicenzaoro

Matteo Farsura, former Exhibition Manager of Vicenzaoro, takes over the leadership of the Jewelery & Fashion division of Ieg, the company that organises, among other things, the fair dedicated to jewellery. Farsura replaces the division’s Global Exhibition Director, Marco Carniello, who takes on the role of Chief Business Officer at the helm of Ieg’s new Business Management, which will coordinate all the industries presided over by the exhibition player. In essence, a promotion for Carniello and a new responsibility for Farsura, which will manage the events of Ieg’s Jewelery Agenda: Vicenzaoro, Oroarezzo, T.Gold, Summit del Gioiello, Valenza Gem Forum, VO’Clock Privé, VO Vintage, as well as JGTD and SIJE in Dubai and Singapore respectively.

The manager will also have responsibility for Fimast, which falls within IEG’s J&F division. From Padua, born in 1975, Matteo Farsura has worked at IEG since 2017, where he contributed to developing first the technology segment, then the Arezzo events and finally Vicenzaoro. After his scientific studies, a degree in Business Economics in Venice Cà Foscari and an MBA Master’s degree from the CUOA Foundation with the US University of Michigan Dearborn (International Program), he developed managerial skills in the luxury sector and event organization, operating – among others – in a leading Italian fashion jewelery company, and drawing inspiration from the values of sport, borrowed from consolidated experience in rugby in the dual role of player and coach.

Vicenzaoro, Palakiss passes to Ieg

In Vicenza the pavilion located in front of the space that hosts Vicenzaoro, i.e. the Palakiss, passes to the Italian Exhibition Group. The operation has a modest value (around 1 million euros), but offers further opportunities to the exhibition centre. Ieg, the company that organizes Vicenzaoro and which is listed on the Milan Stock Exchange, acquires 51% of the capital of Palakiss srl. The agreement was signed with Andrea Marcon, who will remain CEO of Palakiss, a goldsmith center a few steps from the exhibition center and which since 1999 has organized four annual events in which Italian and international manufacturing companies in the gold sector participate.

The operation represents a further step in the strategy defined by the Group to increase and enrich the Ieg product portfolio. The acquisition constitutes, in fact, an opportunity to strengthen the sectoral specialization of the goldsmith industry that we serve and contribute to supporting in order to create continuous business opportunities.

The terms of the agreement also include a call option for the purchase of the remaining 49% of the share capital, exercisable 30 days after the approval of the 2024 financial statements and valid for the following three years, at a price to be determined on the basis of the average Ebitda resulting from the two financial statements approved prior to the date of exercise of the option. Closing date to be determined.

The acquisition will allow Ieg to expand its offering in the Jewelery & Fashion sector, creating interesting synergies with the main events already consolidated for Vicenzaoro, T.Gold and Oroarezzo. Under shared and unified management, the international operator visiting Vicenza will be able to access an even wider range of products and services related to the world of jewelery and will have a single interlocutor capable of guaranteeing the best business experience.

Third Jewelry Summit in Arezzo

Third appointment, now a classic, with the Jewelery Summit in Arezzo. Also this year, the Italian Exhibition Group (a company that also organizes Vicenzaoro and Oroarezzo) has put on the agenda for December 1st, together with the Municipality of Arezzo, the Chamber of Commerce of Arezzo-Siena and Arezzo Fiere e Congressi, a talk on the jewelery system and Italian goldsmithing: the goldsmith district in Tuscany is the largest in Europe. Subject of the meeting: supply chain and market dynamics, opportunities and challenges such as the need to guarantee sustainability and continuity to the sector. With a focus on young people: the gold sector attracts few.

2023 is still one of growth for companies linked to the processing of precious metals and jewellery, but there is a slowdown, linked to the general situation of the economy: exports of Italian gold, silver and jewelery still marked +15, 3% in the first half of 2023. And Tuscany leads the exporting regions with +13.5% and a 35% share of the national total. Furthermore, Arezzo is in first place among the goldsmith districts with a +5.6% compared to 2022.

Oroarezzo renews the spaces

New exhibition layout for Oroarezzo, the fair organized by the Italian Exhibition Group dedicated to companies in the gold, silver and Made in Italy jewelery sector (Arezzo Fiere e Congressi from 13 to 16 May). Ieg has rethought the exhibition itinerary, which will be centered on itineraries that aim to offer a better organization of the product communities and improve the visitor-buyer experience.

Ieg conquers the Singapore jewelery fair

The fairs dedicated to jewelery are increasingly global and the challenge is played out across the board. Thus, after the agreement and the relaunch in the Middle East with the JGT Dubai, Ieg flies to Asia. The Italian company, which organizes Vicenzaoro and Oroarezzo lands in Singapore with its own wholly owned company Ieg Asia Pte and with two exhibitions, respectively in the jewelery and food & beverage sectors, acquired by Cems (Conference & Exhibition Management Services) . The two fairs are Sije, Singapore International Jewelry Expo and Café and Restaurant Asia.

Singapore is already one of the nerve centers for jewellery, where Jewelery & Gem World Singapore takes place, organized by Informa Markets Jewellery, which organizes the big event in Hong Kong. In short, the challenge on the Singapore field is open.

First of all, we are pleased to confirm the partnership with Stb, a guarantee of development and success for the exhibitions acquired. We also wish to underline how important the synergies are between the exhibitions in Italy and those acquired, highlighting the consequent impact generated by the internationalization of our exhibitions also on the Italian territory

The goal is to grow the exhibitions in Singapore, also by leveraging a mutual and productive exchange of the great success of the last edition of Vicenzaoro in January 2023 which saw the presence of over 1,300 exhibiting brands. The same can be said for Sigep with its 1,000 companies in the 2023 edition in Rimini.

JGTD-Jewellery, Gem & Technology in Dubai kicks off

Jewelery world focused on Dubai. The second edition of JGTD-Jewellery, Gem & Technology in Dubai, the event reserved for operators organized by Italian Exhibition Group together with Informa Markets at the World Trade Centre, will take place in the city of the Emirates from 12 to 14 February. The new edition also offers 46% more exhibition space, for 350 exhibitors from 25 countries. Italy is also the country most represented at the Dubai show: there are around 70 goldsmith and jewelery machinery companies from Veneto, Tuscany, Lombardy, Piedmont and Lazio.

JGTD thus becomes one of the major B2B jewelery trade fairs, with the presence of companies from the various supply chains of the gold and jewelery sector: from finished jewelery to precious stones, machinery, equipment and high value-added services. Dubai also presents itself as a bridge between East and West, from the Middle East to Western Asia, from the Indian subcontinent to Africa, in addition to Made in Italy.

Vicenzaoro January hit the mark

The Vicenzaoro January outcome reflect the numbers relating to the jewelery business: they are gold. The organizing company of the event, Italian Exhibition Group, defines it as the edition of records. In fact, Vicenzaoro and the jewelery sector have put the crisis caused by the covid behind them. Also from an aesthetic point of view: the fittings of the standard editions have reappeared, more spacious and welcoming. As for the reverberation of the war in Ukraine, perhaps it is too early to count its weight. Vicenzaoro will be back at the end of the summer (8-12 September) among other things, in an exhibition environment renewed by a restructuring that has just begun.

But let’s get to the official numbers: 1,300 exhibiting brands and 400 foreign buyers. Compared to a year ago, foreign buyers doubled (+105%). More generally, the turnout was record (+11.5%) compared to January 2020. And this, Ieg points out, despite the duration of Vicenzaoro 2023 being one day shorter. Visitors from abroad are 60% of the total and have arrived from 136 countries around the world. In particular, from Europe (54.5%) the Middle East (9.5%), Asia (9%), Turkey (9%), North America (7.2%), Africa (5.4%) and Latin America (4.7%). Among the most represented countries are the United States, Turkey, Greece, Germany, Spain, the UK, France, the United Arab Emirates, Israel, Saudi Arabia, India, Japan and Thailand. However, the absence of Russia from China should be noted, at least from the official balance sheet.

Among the novelties of Vicenzaoro, moreover, there is certainly the substantial entry of the world of contemporary watchmaking and its supply chain with the Time platform, alongside the public entry of Vo Vintage, for open vintage watches and jewellery.

Vicenzaoro January starts and is sold out

Vicenzaoro is back, the largest fair dedicated to Italian and European jewels. After the depression of the covid period, the gold sector is back perky. Witness the pavilions and spaces all occupied, with over 1,300 brands, exhibitors arriving from 36 countries. In short, an announced success for the organizers of Italian Exhibition Group? The sums are drawn in the end, but the premises, despite the leaden cloud that hangs over Ukraine and Russia, seem to exist.

Vicenzaoro lasts five days, until Tuesday 24 January, flanked by T.Gold, an international event dedicated to jewelery technologies and, from 20 to 23 January, by the fourth edition of Vo Vintage, open to the public and dedicated to vintage watches and jewellery. Not only that: the pavilions host a dense series of events, which we have listed here.

Other numbers on Vicenzaoro: 40% come from 36 foreign countries, while 400 buyers are hosted, coming from over 60 countries, thanks to the support of the network of ICE (government body for export) offices around the world. In fact, Italy exports a lot of jewels and semi-finished products, even if the statistics signal a slowdown in the third quarter of 2022. The cumulative value of the gold sector for the first nine months of 2022 records a growth in value of 27.2% on January – September 2021, at just over 7 billion euros. This is an increase of +41.4% compared to the 5.07 billion euros exported in the first nine months of 2019. But, perhaps as a sign of the impending recession, growth in the third quarter of 2022 slowed down: after the increases over 30 % in value of the first and second quarters, from July to September exports recorded +14.6% according to the estimates of the Centro Studi di Confindustria Moda on Istat data for Federorafi).

The jewelery summit in Arezzo

According to data from the Confindustria Study Center in collaboration with Federorafi, in 2021 the jewelery sector in Italy recorded sales up by 59.7% in value on 2020 and by 15.6% on pre-covid levels. A path that continued this year, with exports in the January-July period up by 29.7% on 2021 and by 42% on 2019 for a total of 5.77 billion euros.

From the comparison around the strategic guidelines for the future development of the national supply chain, the ability to create a system of manufacturing, retail, associations and institutions emerges even more strongly. And Ieg renews its commitment to offering ever more qualified tools and opportunities to seize the opportunities of a global market, starting with the next Vicenzaoro January which will open the Jewelery Agenda 2023 from 20 to 24 January.

For the moment, the industrial sector in good health was the focus of the Jewelery Summit promoted in Arezzo by the Italian Exhibition Group, the trade fair company that organizes Vicenzaoro. A long chat between operators in the sector, who embraced topics such as exports, training, from the value chain to production innovation, up to the uncertainties due to geopolitical tensions. Creativity, innovation and digital have been identified as keys to the future of the sector.

It was an opportunity to retrace the evolution of the world of jewellery, especially the Italian one. A sector that is always evolving, never static, which has led to the convergence of two trends in the idea of elegant wearability of jewellery. The first is that of the designers who over time have increasingly linked their creativity to the fashion system, inspired by the idea of well-made and high quality. The second is the consumer one, for those who choose a jewel to make it an integral part of their style and personality. Clothes, accessories and jewels enter into a single context in which Italian designers move with cultural references that always make the product of Italian jewelery unique and inimitable in the world.

Together with Vicenzaoro, from 20 to 24 January 2023 TGold returns, an event dedicated to goldsmith production. The next edition, according to the organizers of Italian Exhibition Group, will be an edition enhanced by the larger exhibition area and with an even more complete offer, testifying to the strategic value of Made in Italy and international manufacturing. Particular attention will be paid to sustainable processes and innovative processes.

Among the major players in the segment, Italian companies stand out, in which the market recognizes the leadership on a technological know-how that has consolidated over time and has spread from the peninsula throughout the world. In Vicenzaoro hands on the Time

To say that Vicenzaoro wants to transform itself into a new Baselworld would be wrong. But it is certain that the company organizing the most important jewelry event, Italian Exhibition Group, is thinking of expanding the business space. This is indicated by the decision to create a new area, called Time with not excessive originality, dedicated to watchmaking. To tell the truth, Vicenzaoro had already added a mezzanine to the space reserved for jewelry for a couple of years, where Vo Vintage was held, a space for watchmaking open to the public, with most of them a few vintage jewelry dealers.

After this taste, therefore, the new community dedicated to contemporary watchmaking and its supply chain is enriched, but in a B2B version. The debut is scheduled at the same time as Vicenzaoro, from 20 to 24 January 2023, again in the premises of Fiera Vicenza. The main buyers and operators of international and Italian distribution will be present, a selection of brands such as Edox, U-Boat, GaGà Milano, Locman, independent brands, a collective of Swiss brands curated by Swiss Creative Lab and a selection of Italian and micro-brands. high potential start-up by Watches of Italy. The Time space will also host after-sales components, accessories, tools and services companies, such as Oisa 1937 and Bergeon. VO Vintage, however, does not retire and is always open to the public.

In short, Ieg wants to create a high-level event dedicated to watchmaking. To convince operators, the company recalls that in the last edition of Vicenzaoro, in September, arrivals from abroad recorded an increase of 10% compared to 2019 and represent more than half of the total attendance (51%), with buyers from 124 countries.

Ieg conquers the Singapore jewelry fair

Vicenzaoro or, more precisely, Italian Exhibition Group, the company that organizes the great Italian jewelery fair twice a year, lands in Singapore. Ieg and Singapore Tourism Board have signed an agreement (Memorandum of Understanding) for the development of events and congresses. The deal was presented in the Asian city-state.

The partnership with Singapore Tourism Board marks a further, important step forward in the internationalization process of IEG, which consolidates its presence in the Asian continent. Singapore today boasts a highly developed economic structure based on high value added services and manufacturing. This is an important piece of our strategy which aims to affirm IEG in all respects as the community catalyst of the industries represented at our events, taking them to the most promising markets, generating value in terms of business for the exhibiting companies, associations and all stakeholders.

According to the agreement, Ieg will open its own office in Singapore, where it recently also signed a letter of intent for the acquisition from Cems-Conference & Exhibition Management Services of two strategic trade fairs in the luxury and food segments: it is Sije, Singapore International Jewelry Expo and Cafè Asia, Sweet and Bakes Asia, Restaurant Asia.

According to Francesco Santa, International Business Development Director of Ieg, “Singapore Tourism Board and Ieg start a long-term collaboration”, and the agreement for the acquisition of the jewelery and food fairs are a confirmation of this.

The plans of Ieg, the mother of Vicenzaoro

The future of Vicenzaoro & C. in the plans of Ieg, the company that organizes the main event related to jewelry, but also Oroarezzo, T / Gold and many other fairs in Italy and abroad. Italian Exhibition Group has developed the strategic plan called Community Catalyst. Objective: to reach 267.2 million euros in turnover in five years and with an adjusted Ebitda (gross margin) that rises from the 13 million euros forecast for 2022 to 69 million in 2027.

Vicenzaoro September. Copyright: gioiellis.com

After the lean years for the entire exhibition sector, in Italy and in the world, caused by the pandemic, now the sector can look to the future with greater confidence. Visitors may be wearing masks, but travel has resumed, even though Ukraine and Russia are out-of-the-way markets. And partly, due to the intermittent blockades, China too. In any case, IEG sees pink already for 2023-2024 with a growth of 49.2% on 2019, i.e. in the pre-covid era. To be precise, it should be added that the expected consolidated turnover also includes the revenues of 50% of the activities in the USA and Mexico just acquired by Deutsche Messe.
Vicenzaoro marzo 2022. Copyright: gioiellis.com
Vicenzaoro marzo 2022. Copyright: gioiellis.com

In any case, progress is significant, considering that in 2021, even with the pandemic limitations, the turnover had risen to 103 million in revenues, also thanks to the contributions made by the government. The strategic plan just approved by the board turns the page and foresees global growth. From 2024 the distribution of dividends to shareholders is scheduled again. The idea is that the trade fairs are a sort of community catalyst of the industries represented through the integrated use of regional and international events that complement the main event held in Italy. This is a bit like what is already happening for Vicenzaoro, which crossed the Red Sea to land in Dubai.
Lorenzo Cagnoni, presidente di Ieg
Lorenzo Cagnoni, presidente di Ieg

Furthermore, Ieg has as its objective agreements and alliances with other operators and trade associations to increase the visitor base of leading trade fairs. There is no lack of emphasis on communication strategies. But, above all, the company hints at “new exhibition clusters”, which integrate segments and product categories in the main events. It is not clear, however, what this means in practice.
Corrado Peraboni, Ceo di Ieg
Corrado Peraboni, Ceo di Ieg

Abroad, after landing in the Emirates and the acquisition of overseas, Ieg aims to duplicate and create spin-offs of its most relevant events in the areas most interesting for the various products. In Brazil, for example, he set up a new company with the aim of organizing at least five new events. The Plan also mentions the loyalty of the customer portfolio, the efficiency, optimization and monitoring of M&A opportunities for related services and even new magazines linked to the main exhibitions, a further showcase for the Group’s customers.

All with investments in five years of 134.9 million euros divided between maintenance, expansion and acquisitions, the latter concerning Italy, Asia, North America and South America, the construction of the Vicenza pavilion and the expansion of the Rimini district. To guarantee space for the growing events, from 2025 to 2027 IEG will rely on temporary structures.

The restart of Oroarezzo

It’s time to take stock for Oroarezzo (May 7-10), the event organized by the Italian Exhibition Group focused on goldsmithing from the main Made in Italy goldsmith districts. The final data indicate over 300 exhibiting brands, including jewelery and technology, 200 foreign buyers from 50 countries. To summarize, the organizers speak of a “widespread sentiment of trust towards a restart path”. If the sentiment has translated or will translate into business, a significant milestone would have been reached, if we take into account the moment characterized by inflation and war in Ukraine, with the relative marginalization of the Russian market.

In the final press release, IEG emphasizes the presence in Arezzo of buyers from the Middle East and Europe (especially from the East), the international vocation and the positioning in the key target markets. But Oroarezzo also recorded arrivals from the Americas and South East Asia (Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam) as well as emerging markets such as North Africa, with buyers arriving in downstream cities thanks to IEG’s scouting activity, with the aim of generate new perspectives for companies. The Cash & Carry offer recorded the presence of Italian retailers, in view of the seasonal restocking. The next appointment with Oroarezzo will be in May 2023.

Vicenzaoro warms up the engines

In Italy, the spring of events dedicated to jewelry has already begun. After the postponement of Vicenzaoro to March (an event that was scheduled for the end of January) due to the pandemic, the improvement in health conditions led to a general redefinition of the dates by Ieg, the organizing company. Vicenzaoro January, therefore, has been moved to March 17-21, 2022, together with T. Gold (fair dedicated to machinery for jewelery). Thanks to vaccinations, safety measures and descent of the pandemic peak in all countries, from mid-March Vicenza will be able to reopen the pavilions in complete safety according to the health safety management protocols (#Safebusiness by Ieg and Gbac Star) by now successfully applied and tested in the editions of September 2020 and 2021 as well as in all the events that took place on the various exhibition plants affected by Ieg.

VicenzaOro January 2020

On the other hand, VO Vintage, an event open to the public of collectors and fans of vintage watches and jewels, has slipped to September. In its place, a new project dedicated to the presentation of the most important innovations in the contemporary watchmaking sector is planned. Vo Vintage, which was on the agenda with Vicenzaoro January, does not seem to work on the new March dates.

Italian Exhibition Group has already begun the discussion on operational details with exhibitors, and is defining, together with the tourism promotion agency of Vicenza (Vicenzaè) and the hoteliers of the whole province, an agreement that guarantees the possibility of moving bookings already made for January to the new March dates without any penalty for Vicenzaoro exhibitors and visitors. This is not a secondary aspect from an economic point of view.

Therefore, in March, Vicenzaoro, the largest European event dedicated to the gold and jewelery sector, returns, simultaneously with T. Gold, the international exhibition of the most innovative machinery and technologies applied to goldsmithing and precious items organized in partnership with Afemo. The event, a real flagship of the events on Ieg technology, will show the hardware of the sector, with the innovations that affect the production process. In agreement with Ieg, the Municipality of Vicenza has also decided to reposition Vioff, the Fuori Fiera di Vicenzaoro, in the new dates of the event between business, culture, music and pleasure of Italian flavors.

In the coming months, in addition to Vicenzaoro, TGold and VO Vintage, Ieg’s jewelery agenda includes further important events for the entire world jewelery community.

Jewel Summit in December

It was expected in mid-November but, for organizational reasons, the Summit of the Italian Jewelery scheduled in Arezzo is postponed to December 14th. The event organized by Italian Exhibition Group takes the place (symbolically) of Gold / Italy, an international workshop that connects the Made in Italy jewelery of selected manufacturing companies and international demand. But the limitations related to the pandemic led the organizers to postpone Gold / Italy to October 2022.

In its place, therefore, there will be the first Summit of Italian Jewelery, an institutional event by invitation, which will involve the leaders of the national jewelery and goldsmith sector. Organized by the Italian Exhibition Group in collaboration with the Municipality of Arezzo, it points out a press release from the trade fair company, the Arezzo-Siena Chamber of Commerce, Arezzo Fiere e Congressi, and with the participation of all relevant trade associations. The summit will offer concrete food for thought and opportunities for direct confrontation between all the representatives of the Italian Jewelery System, gathered in the Auditorium of Arezzo Fiere e Congressi, in the heart of the historic goldsmith district. On the agenda issues such as sustainability and branding, central challenges in creating value along the goldsmith supply chain and in competition on the global market.

The word downsizing is the one that runs the most on operators’ lips. The three days organized by Italian Exhibition Group in Arezzo, the Italian capital of gold processing, does not return due, in essence, to the still unconcluded pandemic emergency, which slows down movements, especially those at an international level, in particular those of Asian and American buyers. In place of Gold / Italy, in mid-November, a summit with the leaders of the jewelery and goldsmith sector will be held in collaboration with the Municipality and the relevant trade associations. Objective: to discuss the strategies in this relaunch phase. Obviously it is not the same thing, but one must make a virtue of necessity.

In any case, We Are Jewelery will not have a link with Vicenza, but with Arezzo, a district specialized in gold processing. The setting of the connections, in fact, was designed to highlight the monumental and tourist aspects of the Tuscan city.

Vicenzaoro postponed to September

Vicenzaoro slips again. The largest Italian fair dedicated to jewelry, in fact, will be held in September. This was decided by Ieg, the company that organizes the event at Fiera Vicenza. Last October, in a moment of optimism, Italian Exhibition Group had set for March 12-16 (therefore three months after the classic January appointment) the exhibition dedicated to jewelry. Now, however, there is a stop. In fact, the pandemic is still too widespread to allow Vicenzaoro to run smoothly. In March, however, there will be an unprecedented digital edition.
