Of course, to be the daughter of Stephen and Janie Burton, owners of the Hancocks vintage jewelry boutique in London, offers a good advantage. But Amy Burton did not take advantage of the custom with large, precious jewels of the period to conquer a space behind the family windows. In fact, in 2016, she decided to start her own business with a high-end jewelry shop: unique pieces, not at all tending to an antiquated or even classic taste.
Her journey began with a gemology degree at the Gemmological Association in London and she continued to take inspiration from different subjects. For example, the Disorient collection is inspired by a Venetian gate.

The Unum jewelery line recalls Latin and indicates that they are unique pieces. Amy Burton’s jewels sign a marriage between great exceptional stones, in the sense that they are for cut or color different from those usually found in jewelry, and intricate geometric constructions that, despite the often generous dimensions of rings or bracelets, succeed to offer a pleasant sense of lightness. Its jewels, among other things, unlike some other luxury jewelry brands, are all made in London, obviously by expert hands of craftsmen. The Dior palette is filled with colors with its new high jewelery collection which is simply called Gem Dior. It is a particularly important collection, as always sprung from the mind of the creative director of Dior jewelry, Victoire de Castellane, because it celebrates the French Maison’s 20 years of haute joaillerie.

As the name indicates, the collection is based on the choice of large gems, which make up unique pieces of sure impact: bright tourmalines, contour diamonds, bright opals, deep emeralds, multicolored sapphires, next to a few touches of lacquer. But not only. Two other aspects emerge. The first concerns a style that owes a lot to art deco, with immediately recognizable geometries. The second aspect is, instead, the reference to the Belle Epoque with the choice of Toi & Moi rings, with two poles that use reverse-type stones. In all there are 39 pieces, including bracelets, rings, earrings and necklaces, all of exceptional richness, as is the Dior tradition, presented in Paris during the haute couture week.

The new jewelry by Tomasz Donocik and the extraordinary necklace created for London goldsmiths ♦︎

Some time ago the Goldsmiths Company commissioned Tomasz Donocik, a designer of Polish origin, but now a Londoner, to create a diamond necklace to commemorate the year of Michael Wainwright, Prime Warden of the British goldsmiths’ association, one of the Twelve Great Livery Companies of the City of London, which received its first recognition by the king in 1327. The result was the Stellar Diamond Necklace.
The necklace is composed of baguette-cut diamonds for 19 carats, set with 266 18-karat gold links perfectly articulated. An encounter between the strength of the diamond and the elasticity of the layers that make up this architectural creation, explains the designer.

In addition to that piece of fine jewelery, Tomasz Donocik continues to design his jewels that always have geometric dynamism, with stones often cut into baguette, thin and colored. Like the Electric Night collection, where blue topazes and amethysts are tuned to the colors that light up the London hours from midnight onwards.

High jewelery with blazon. The new jewelery series created by Charlotte Dauphin de la Rochefoucauld, descendant of one of the noblest French families, is composed of two sets: Paraboles, which is an evolution of the iconic fluid structures of the Maison Dauphin, and Monuments, which finds its own roots in the most architectural collections of the jewelery brand. Among other things, the novelties also represent an important anniversary, because they celebrate the fifth of the Maison’s birth. The jewels were admired in the heart of the eighth arrondissement of Paris, through a set designed by Félix de Montesquiou and photographed by Paolo Roversi.

I wanted to display my work in this personal, intimate space that is a family house and create a conversation between the creations and the space. Like a mise en abyme, a vast mirror in which we would be enclosed, trapped, and see ourselves. I see my creations as mirrors of the self. So is a monument, the intimate space of a house. “Form is the essence brought to the surface” says Victor Hugo. The mirror may be a surface, an in-between space between the inner and the outside worlds. Two worlds that can never meet and that language in all its forms desperately tries to reconcile.

Born in 1963, Carlo Palmiero developed a passion for beautiful objects and precious gems as a boy. Céline Assimon, the CEO of de Grisogono who replaced founder Fawaz Gruosi in December, took just four months to introduce novelties to the Maison. The first move is to introduce a sort of internship for designers in the Geneva company. The idea was articulated under the name of Creativity in Residence and provides, in fact, a period of collaboration in house, of one-year, for a guest designer, with the intention of injecting new creative lymph. However, the project is more extensive. It includes, for example, the identification of a well-known artist in another discipline, such as figurative art or music, who will be de Grisogono’s inspirational muse. This man or woman has not yet been identified, but it is possible that this is a relationship like that of Lady Gaga for Tiffany or Rihanna for Chopard, representative artists and internationally known.

Today de Grisogono launches a triple platform that will breathe new life into the Maison’s unique creative approach, capable of giving life to notoriously daring jewels. The peculiarity of the Creativity in Residence program is the transformation of the internal Creative Studio into a stimulated hub, nourished and enriched by all three aspects of the program; in turn the Studio will open its heritage and its extraordinary skills to new eyes, external talents and curious young minds.

There is also a third project: a scholarship in collaboration with the Haute École d’art et de design (Head) of Geneva, one of the main European schools of art and design, a concentration of talents in the expressive field and artistic. The initiatives are, in short, a sign of the Maison’s vitality, which just a year ago announced a plan to reduce 41 jobs (31 in Switzerland and 10 worldwide) out of a total of 104 employees. The Ginevra Maison of high jewelery de Grisogono has two fixed points: participation in the Cannes Film Festival and a good dose of humor. For 2019 he decided to combine both aspects for the 17th appointment in Cannes: de Grisogono chosed to call his creations under the name of Technicolor. A name that has made the history of cinema: Technicolor was the second color cinematography procedure to be used on a large scale and, untill 1952, the most used in the United States. It was a synonym of great quality, of strong visual impact, of great films.

But for de Grisogono the word Technicolor brings together five new high jewelery rings. Obviously with very colored stones.

The five rings have as many central stones: ruby, emerald, sapphire, yellow diamond, white diamond. These stones combine with other stones. Combinations that the Maison sees as allusions to the history of cinema. Like the great masterpieces signed by great directors, also these rings are unique pieces. In short, each of these rings has its own script and a director (de Grisogono) who tells their story and their virtues.

The first ring is in green tone. It is made of 18K white gold, with a coussin-cut Colombian emerald (11.60 carats) and 532 black diamonds (approx. 11.30 carats) in the center. A contrast, between green and black, reinforced by the large lower corolla that rotates around a magnetic beryl that can move.

The asymmetry between the cuts of the ruby (cabochon and brilliant) goes up to the profile of the ring, covered with over a hundred brilliant cut diamonds. In addition, the ring is dotted with rose gold and black rhodium gold beads. In the center, mounted on a setting of pink gold, there is the white diamond of over 7 carats.

The perfect symmetry of the marquise cut contrasted by the asymmetry of the setting which for diamonds and emeralds reaches the bezel of the blue sapphire.
