Damiani focuses on online and enters LuisaViaRoma

The Damiani group perhaps started from this consideration when it decided to invest in LuisaViaRoma (luisaviaroma.com), one of the most solid and successful marketplaces in fashion and jewelry. The company led by Guido Grassi Damiani, in fact, acquired a (minority) stake, through the corporate vehicle Florence, the majority of which is held by the private equity fund Style Capital, led by Roberta Benaglia.

Despite the changes brought about by the pandemic that have revolutionized the economic scenario and the luxury market, the Damiani Group has not stopped its strategic plans for the expansion of its leadership.
The rethinking of investments has led, on the one hand, to the strengthening of digital, intended as a complementary lever for business growth, through the construction of a structured division at Group level, while on the other hand new development plans have been implemented at retail and wholesale.
In 2020, for example, an agreement was signed with the Fosun Group for the establishment of a new company under Chinese law which has the ambitious goal of strong growth in the region through the opening of over a dozen Damiani mono-brand boutiques and a hundred of Salvini stores. In the same period, the Group became Category Partner of the Rinascente di Milano for the distribution of high-end jewelery and watches, it inaugurated a prestigious Rocca boutique in the very central Via Nassa in Lugano but also two stores in Malpensa and in the coming months, the reopening (after a renovation) of the Rocca di Bologna boutique, a boutique at the Milan Linate airport and a Rolex mono-brand boutique in the prestigious Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, as well as a series of new openings and strategic operations such as, just completed, acquisition of the majority of the Bruno Maria Zimmitti jewelers: well-known Italian retailer, founded in Syracuse in 1858, which distributes prestigious high-end watchmaking and jewelery brands within its three stores, including Damiani, Salvini, Rolex and Bulgarians.

Space for managers. Damiani, the largest Italian jewelery group, introduces a new managerial figure: Jérôme Favier has been named CEO of the jewelry group. Giorgio Grassi Damiani, on the other hand, remains the managing director of Damiani spa, listed on the stock exchange.

Nothing changes with regard to the corporate aspect: Damiani is a 58.9% subsidiary of the Luxembourgish Leading Jewels, a financial company owned by the Valenza family. Guido Grassi Damiani remains president of both Leading Jewels and Damiani.

Jérôme Favier has a consolidated management experience, started in Danone and Unilever, to then define himself in the luxury sector. In 1994 he joined Richemont and worked on the strategies of Cartier and then Jaeger-LeCoultre. Damiani, explains a company statement, aims “to define a business model that knows how to weave the most innovative managerial methodologies, innovation and craftsmanship heritage of which it is the custodian”.

Following this appointment, Damiani has also changed the sales organization with the aim of enhancing collaboration with partners in the field of branded jewelery and with the will to privilege those who will invest in the range of brands of the Group.

New ceo at Damiani group

The Damiani Group is the only one luxury company listed on the Italian Stock Exchange. As such it is required to give account of his business every three months: an exercise uncomfortable, but that provides transparency to investors. Here, then, the accounts of the company from Piedmont in the first nine months of 2014-2015 (the budget closes every 31 March). Positive gross margin (Ebitda) is of 5.2 million euro, with an improvement of 4.9 million euro compared to 31 December 2013. But the result remains a negative, albeit reduced: the nine months closed with eur -1.4 million, which still means an improvement of 61.6% compared to a year ago. No good news also from the negative net financial position of 50.2 million euro (40.8 million euro at March 31, 2014), but “as a result of seasonality and investments made during the period.”

I prossimi 90 anni di Damiani sono iniziati. Alla Galleria di Arte Moderna del Museo di Palazzo Pitti di Firenze è stata inaugurata la mostra Damiani 90 Years of Excellence and Passion, per celebrare la storia e i gioielli del brand piemontese. Alla presentazione erano presenti sia il presidente del gruppo, Guido Grassi Damiani, che la vice presidente, la sorella Silvia. La mostra resterà allestita fino al 7 settembre ed è organizzata nella Sala del Fiorino di Palazzo Pitti. Sotto le bacheche sono esposte le 18 opere premiate con il Diamonds International Award, in pratica l’Oscar della Gioielleria. Un record: Damiani è l’unico gioielliere al mondo ad avere ricevuto tutti questi riconoscimenti.
