Nature and art jewels in London

Cop26 was held in Glasgow, Scotland. In London, however, Elisabetta Cipriani’s gallery organized another summit, but in this case it is the jewelry that answers questions about the environment. Until November 27, in fact, the gallery hosts the Force of Nature exhibition curated by Melanie Grant, which brings together the work of 17 jewelers and designers who play with the relationship between precious materials and the environment. They are all special jewels, which represent a bridge between jewelry and art. For example, Wallace Chan, Jaqueline Rabun, James de Givenchy, Satta Maturi, Ute Decker, Fabio Salini, Liv Luttrell, Grima, Bibi Van Der Velde and Melanie Eddy.

Even if the theme is the relationship of art with jewelry and nature, not all the jewels on display have shapes that can be immediately traced back to natural ones. In some cases the relationship is more conceptual than naturalistic. In fact, what the designer or artist wanted to interpret with her jewel counts a lot. There are also special pieces such as those by Wallace Chan, including Spring of Life, a 2019 ring with yellow diamonds, tsavorite, pearle, cat’s eye, on titanium: sometimes art surpasses nature.

Masterpieces, high jewelry in London

High jewelry at the Masterpieces London fair: from Boghossian to Cindy Chao, Chatila, Grima … Here are the exhibitors ♦ ︎

From June 27 to July 3, in an exceptionally flushed London, Masterpieces London returns, an antique fair, arts and great jewels. In addition to the jewels of the time, also in this edition the high contemporary jewelry is not missing. Among the Maison present, for example, there is Boghossian, the sixth generation of jewelers based in Geneva, strong in the long Armenian tradition, with a passion for researching and treating rare gems around the world. La Maison is known for its innovative craftsmanship, which requires exceptional mastery techniques to contribute to the art of jewelry, as with the Inlay, Kissing and Merveilles collections.

Another jewel of the artist at Masterpieces London is Cindy Chao, who has kept the ancient European technique of lost wax. At the London fair she presents two collections of Art Jewel products, the Masterpieces Black Label masterpieces and the White Label Collection, both sought after by the most demanding connoisseurs at international auctions. The Royal Butterfly Brooch was adopted by the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington DC in 2010.

Fabio Salini in carbon fiber

Fabio Salini’s jewels at the Masterpiece London: a hundred pieces and the new collection with carbon fiber ♦ ︎

It is fortunate that Fabio Salini has not followed the family entrepreneurial vocation to exercise his creativity in a completely different sector, jewelery. It is fortunate because Salini not only brings fresh air into a world that, in part, is crystallized on a tradition that seems immutable, but is also able to create standing ovation jewelry. Appearance that, combined with its proud will to innovate, is not a secondary aspect. The Roman designer, among other things, also knows well the high traditional jewelry: before founding his small Maison, he worked for both Bulgari and Cartier.
A wide selection of his work, Fabio Salini took her to Masterpiece London. The exhibition dedicated to antiques, design and jewelry has welcomed a hundred pieces, including its new collection that uses an unusual material: carbon fiber, next to titanium and precious stones such as diamonds and sapphires, or seeds -precious like the peridot. The result is jewels with very clean, modern, striking geometries. And also very light. Rudy Serra

Collectible Jewels in GemGenève

In Geneva, a new appointment with collectible jewelery and selected gems: GemGenève ♦ ︎
So far, the highlights of high-end jewelry have been few: Baselworld, first of all, a unique story, now resized. Then, in different ways and situations, VicenzaOro, Jck and Couture in Las Vegas, to which was added the Hong Kong Fair and, finally, Dubai. Beyond these events there was also the Sihh, Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie Genève, centered however above all on the market of high-end timepieces. Now the world of jewelery and gem fairs has one more rival: GemGenève. The event is promoted by jewelers and merchants from Geneva, with over 70 years of experience: Thomas Faerber, owner of the fourth generation of the Faerber Collection, and Ronny Totah, co-owner of Horovitz and Totah. The initiative also marks a marked split-up from Baselworld, considered unattractive for antique or collectible jewelery.

The appointment
The city that is the capital of watchmaking is also home to refined merchants of gems and vintage jewelry. Switzerland itself seems to symbolize this mix of discretion and luxury, of elegance, but also of business. GemGenève is considered by the organizers a new kind of fair, “a new approach aimed at revealing the true spirit of the jewelry world, showing off its experience and excellence”. GemGenève will be an intimate, elegant, contemporary and user-friendly show with a hundred high-level exhibitors. The fair will be held from 10 to 13 May at the Geneva Palaexpo. An opportunity for those who love precious stones, diamonds and pearls, antique jewelry, but also contemporary design jewels.
Beware of the date: it is no coincidence that the days coincide with the main auctions of jewelry and watches in Geneva, which attract the best buyers in the world, those of the Magnificent Jewels of Christie’s and Sotheby’s. And, not by chance, Christie’s has looked kindly at the initiative, with a non-secondary participation and a stand. Some names among the hundred participants: Nadia Morgenthaler, Fabio Salini, Kothari, David & Sohn, Gorgoglione. Monica Battistoni

Fabio Salini: fate is an art

A small review of Fabio Salini’s extraordinary jewelery, which plans to expand his business in London and New York ♦

Fabio Salini has on his way the fate. He is son of a great entrepreneur construction, and he could afford to cultivate his passion: designing jewelry. But fate has also sent another sign: the talent. What it could have seemed a hobby of a rich young man has shown, in fact, a professional choice rewarded by success. In short, the Roman designer has earned a place among those who count in jewelry due to its ability. To begin his degree in geological sciences. First, he worked hard to Cartier and Bulgari where, in addition to demonstrating his creativity, he also got acquainted with the process of production of jewelry. After this training in the Olympus of jewelery, in 1999 he launched his first collection.

It was a success. His pieces also liked to Queen Rania of Jordan, who has worn them on several occasions. In 2004 he opened in Rome what he calls “his Atelier” where he creates and sells rings, necklaces and bracelets of its production. It is also a passionate contemporary art, so he worked with Fernando and Humberto Campana, designers who live and work in Sao Paulo. Also had international awards: for example, Salini last year won the Talent de l’Originalité 2014, set up by the Centre du Luxe et de la Création in Paris. After this presentation, take a look at his production, well represented on Instagram. He also announced that he wanted to expand his business in London and New York and Moda Operandi put him in the selected array of his designers.

By the way: to Fabio Salini we deliver our (virtual) prize for the most journalist-friendly site. They were all like him … Lavinia Andorno
