The high spheres of Elie Top

//

His jewels are reminiscent of the romantic atmospheres of the mid-nineteenth century, between devices to scan the sky, mechanical dolls, the first scientific laboratories: Elie Top has the merit of offering a type of refined, completely different jewelry, intended for a select few. Who, in any case, knows how to appreciate his creations that use the principles of mechanics applied to jewelry. His idea is to make jewelry that can be placed in the past as well as in the future. He did it.

The first steps in the world of work, however, took them in the fashion sector, after studying at the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture in Paris. At 19, the internship at Yves Saint Laurent, alongside the legendary designer Jean-Paul Knott and then with Alber Elbaz. Switched to Lanvin, he started to design the jewels of the fashion brand, then to Baccarat and Roger Vivier. In 2015 the jump with the jewelry line that bears his name and new life as an independent jewelry designer.

But, above all, with an unmistakable style: he uses 18-karat gold and aged silver to make jewels that seem to have come out of a mysterious laboratory, and that contain moving parts, such as the Sphère Rings, with metal bubbles that open and close and reveal pearls , diamonds, onyxes.

Elie Top traveling on the stars

The new mysterious cosmos of Elie Top, between zodiac, hidden mechanisms, symbology… ♦ ︎
Secrète Cosmogonies. That is the secrets of the cosmos or, better, of the stars loved by astrologers. The zodiac signs, in spite of scientific findings, are a game of society that still thrills many people, men and women. For some, associating zodiacal signs with behaviors and forecasts is fun, for others it is a faith. For all of them the whimsical French designer Elie Top has launched Cosmogonie Secrète, a collection that reveals and obscures the zodiacal signs engraved in the jewels, which have movable elements. Jewels that the designer presented at the Couture in Las Vegas.
The passion for the stars, in any case, is not new for Elie Top, who launched his jewelery brand in January 2015, after having worked for many years with important companies and designers such as Alber Elbaz, Lanvin, Yves Saint Laurent , Loulou de la Falaise, Baccarat, Roger Vivier. It is no coincidence that his first line of jewelry is called Mécaniques Célestes, which was followed by the Etoile Mystérieuse collection. All jewels are also complicated objects that seem to come out of a fantasy tale, amulets or mysterious mechanisms capable of producing spells. Who knows if Elie Top’s horoscope had predicted it. Pearls that surprise

The pearls not everytime are used with traditional jewelery, such as the classic one or two-strand necklace. Here are some pearl jewelry that are amazing ♦

Pearls that break the model, contradict the classic form of jewelry that use this fruit of oysters, so prized and used. But beware, these five jewels not spring from strange idea of some designers which want to amaze. On the contrary, they are great and fine jewelry offered by affirmed Maison or run in from creators of unique pieces. The selection, made by the New York Times, simply goes against the current, with a small parade of jewels able to debunk the common use of pearls: necklace, earrings, rings sometimes, but in a context of simplicity. On the contrary, in this case the pearls are capable of amazing, even when they are white, the most common. The secret is in the re-interpretation of the role of pearl, in pairs or alone, but determined to act in tandem with the fanciful gold frames. An entire gallery to watch.

In VicenzaOro the design wins

The Design Room in VicenzaOro January 12 outstanding authors of tomorrow’s jewelry.
One of the best innovations of VicenzaOro January edition was the introduction of the Design Room. While some traditional jewelry are missed and don’t are come back at the fair (for example, historical brands like Chimento or Verdi Gioielli), there are new characters that are climbing, successfully, in the world of jewelry. Often, however, they do not have a consolidated organizational structure behind on which to rely. VicenzaOro thought so in an area with all their spaces organized in a simple and recognizable, at an affordable price. The initiative is excellent. For visitors, who were able to bring designers who would otherwise have followed from afar, and designers that have landed in the crucible of Vicenza, since the homogeneity of Design Room (as it was called the space inside the Icon pavilion), it made it more interesting the comparison. Were 12 international designers, young but already established (one of them, Nikos Koulis, also won one of the awards Palladio), who were invited: Netali Nissim, Federica Rector and Qayten (Italy), Rodney Rayner, Sarah and I Zara Simon (UK), Nikos Koulis (Greece), Magerit (Spain), Daniela Villegas and Sutra (USA), Fernando Jorge (Brazil), Elie Top (France). Experiment, hopefully, to be repeated. Giulia Netrese

The celestial mechanics of Elie Top

Elie Top, the creative mechanism between the Seventeenth and 3D technology.
It is one of the new names of the jewelry, but is already talked about him. Because it’s hard to forget Elie Top: his jewels have the rare advantage of being completely different from the others, without incurring the sin of bizarreness. He began his career in jewelry design with the legendary Loulou de la Falaise to Yves Saint Laurent, to work then with Alber Elbaz at Lanvin. Well, as always it happens to the creative people who have something to add, he now is out on his own. Everything is produced in France, but without ignoring the more advanced techniques, such as 3D. In fact, her jewelry is a masterpiece of engineering. The collection Mécaniques Celestes, for example, is inspired in part by the astrological clocks of the seventeenth and eighteenth century, with rotation of the discs elements that reveal previously hidden elements, such as the central sphere diamond-studded ring in gold and silver (price: $ 13145). The idea is to play on the concept of open / closed. She loves working with hard gemstones and semi-hard, as labradorite, rock crystal, chalcedony, tourmaline, citrine, quartz. It’s a largely aesthetic aspect linked to the jewel plus the desire to accumulate precious materials. If you like her jewelry, Elie Top opened a boutique on the rue Saint-Honoré, Paris. But you do not think it’s a jewelry store like everyone else: look for yourself. Lavinia Andorno

An astral travel with Elie Top

It has been for over ten years the designer of Lanvin. And now Elie Top launches its first jewelery collection, with the same fantasy used to design for the fashion brand. It includes necklaces of great impact. The collection is called Mécaniques Célestes and it’s as a journey through the mysteries of space, between constellations of precious stones and diamonds. Planets bathed in sunshine on rings and earrings in gold or silver. Jewelry or satellites to gravitate around a finger or around your wrist: it makes no difference in this cosmology valuable.
