Cover for Apple Watch by Damiani

Precious covers for Apple Watch in gold and diamonds: this is how Damiani combines the goldsmith tradition with hi-tech ♦ ︎

Last year, 2018, Apple shipped around 40 million Apple Watch. And 2019 started even better: The smartwatch market continues to grow, and that of the Cupertino company continues to be the best selling, even if more expensive than the others. Counterpoint statistics for the first quarter of 2019 indicate that smartwatch shipments grew by 48% compared to the same period in 2018 and that more than one smartwatch sold out of three is an Apple Watch: 35.8%. Apple has also increased shipments by 49% on an annual basis.

This premise is the context that explains Damiani’s choice to offer the precious Apple Watch covers. The cover is in white, yellow or pink gold with diamonds and is available for both the 40 mm and 44 mm versions, ie the latest version of Apple Watch or the previous ones. The cover is made in two variants: the first recovers the texture of the iconic Metropolitan collection, which is inspired by the skyline of big cities and costs about 4,000 euros, the second, more precious, is in full paved with white diamonds and is inspired by the Gomitolo collection, for an indicative price of 11,000 euros. In short, an ancient tradition applied to the most hi-tech device.

Antonini, birthday Cento100

//

Antonini’s secular birthday celebrated with the Cento100 collection in gold and diamonds ♦ ︎

To have a hundred years and not to feel them. The recipe for longevity is simple: do not stop, change, but without changing your nature. How you do it? Ask Antonini, Maison of Milan, who has turned off the hundred candles in lightness. But he wanted to emphasize the importance of the finish line with a collection. You guessed it: the collection is called Cento100, written in letters and in number. “It is also a way to localize the collection in the various countries in which we are present”, explains the designer, Sergio Antonini. “The number, in fact, is pronounced differently according to the language. For example, the Americans say Cento-one hundred, the French Cento-cent and so on. ” Antonini, however, also uses to link the collections to Italian locations, such as Syracuse, Matera, Etna. And Cento is, in fact, also the name of a small town in Emilia Romagna, with a famous portico. Also from this point of view, in short, tradition is respected

Cento100 is a ready-to-wear collection in shiny gold and diamonds, with soft and sinuous shaped jewels.

Forms reminiscent of those of Anniversary, one of the most successful collections in the recent history of the brand, designed in 2009 for the birthday number 90. The Cento100 collection is very wide, includes many variations. Chains, rings and earrings are offered in simple yellow or white gold, or with pavé and diamonds set at 45 degrees in color F. A curiosity: the outer back of the shank of the rings has a small flat surface that allows the jewel to remain straight when it is laid, like a flower.

Syz Fireworks, the fantasy doubles

/

The jewels of the new Syz Fireworks brand, founded by Suzanne and Isabelle Syz. With the debut in GemGèneve ♦ ︎

Some say that a daughter-in-law and mother-in-law never agree. Not true, at least in jewelry. Do you want the proof? That of Suzanne and Isabelle Syz, founders of Syz Fireworks. The new brand debuted at GemGèneve and with a trunkshow on Moda Operandi. The jewels of Syz Fireworks join those already acclaimed by Suzanne Syz, who has invented a cheerful, transgressive style, also innovative from a technical point of view, since she has staked everything on the use of titanium and unconventional shapes.

The jewels of the original Maison, however, are in a price range that not everyone can reach. Syz Fireworks promises the same creative verve, but with a more affordable cost, on average from 2,500 to 8,000 euros. The jewels are always in titanium, with small diamonds set. Life is too short to wear boring jewelry, say the two Syz. And certainly the jewels of the newborn brand will not bore anyone either.

Officina Bernardi stops the clock hands

//

Officina Bernardi’s Timeless collection: 18k gold with pavé diamonds, rubies or sapphires. But there are also the moon pearls ♦ ︎

Timeless is a definition that, in jewelery and more generally in the world of fashion or design, applies to those objects that have the daunting task of surviving the change in tastes and, perhaps, also the wear and tear that derives from their use. Who knows if the Timeless collection by Officina Bernardi will remain faithful to the purpose contained in its name? Could be. Because the collection is very simple, very classic. And, we must add, with affordable prices: for a ring we start from 1145-1885 euros, to go up to a necklace with a pendant that exceeds 4,000 euros.

The jewels are in 18 carat gold, with pavé diamonds (they are the ones that cost the most) or precious stones like sapphires and rubies.

The jewelery does not lack the stylistic stamp of Officina Bernardi, that is metal pearls, called moon pearls: they are the form with which the company from Borso del Grappa (Treviso) debuted and which has evolved over time. Even if the collection it’s called Timeless. Alessia Mongrando

The baroque style of Roberto Coin widens

/

The new jewels of the New Barocco collection by Roberto Coin: bracelets, earrings, pendant in gold and diamonds ♦

Baroque marks an era in the history of art that has not yet ended. And, perhaps, it will never end. As an alternative to the cold and rational forms of minimalism, even in jewelery the exuberance of baroque shapes continues to be successful, driven by the imagination of some Maison. But it is inspired always, as in the case of the New Barocco collection by Roberto Coin, of fantasies that draw on tradition. And since Roberto Coin is an international brand that does not deny its soul, here is the New Baroque from the Vicenza company inspired by the embroidered style of the Venetian eighteenth century.

The collection, launched a couple of years ago, now offers some new pieces.

These are jewels that, however, are perfectly in line with the originals of which we have already written here, made with a thread of twisted gold and the addition of small brilliant-cut diamonds. The novelties consist of a bracelet, a pair of earrings and a pendant, which are added to the rings and other jewels of the collection. Alessia Mongrando

The new Fragrances by Giovanni Ferraris

/

The new pieces from the Giovanni Ferraris Fragranze collection: pavé of stones, colors, pink gold ♦

Too bad it is useless to smell the jewels. Rings, necklaces, earrings and bracelets are neutral to the sense of smell, even if they represent flowers or fruit. Perhaps an exception is the Fragranze collection by Giovanni Ferraris. Actually don’t expect to hear anything if you bring your nose close to jewels. But the name and the colors of the stones, as well as the shape reminiscent of wild berries, can stimulate your imagination. In short, perhaps they do not really smell, but the mind could evoke spring essences, of flowery meadow, of harvest. In a nutshell, fantasy can gallop freely.

Presented in Baselworld in 2018, the collection has been enriched with pieces and variations on the theme over the months. Now it includes smaller rings, entirely covered with fancy cut rose cut diamonds in various colors: black, blue, yellow, brown, white. Amber tones of head diamonds, combined with milky diamonds, for a diffused and warm light effect. Rose gold rings are small, classic and delicate design, but there are also dangling earrings that do not go unnoticed. Giulia Netrese

Charlize Theron shines with Messika

Charlize Theron, in Paris for the launch of her film, shines with the Messika diamond jewelry ♦

Charlize Theron has chosen to shine in Paris. The actress presented her new film, Long Shot, directed by Jonathan Levine, in which Charlize is star with Seth Rogen. But at the Gaumont Opera Capucines premiere, the actress also shone for her look: she chose to wear Messika’s high jewelery, Paris’s queen of diamonds. In particular, Charlize Theron wore Snake Dance earrings from Messika’s new collection of high jewelry Born to Be Wild and the ring Shards of Mirror from the Once Upon A Time jewelry collection.

The new Enchanté by Chantecler

//

The Enchanté collection by Chantecler expands: here are the jewels inspired by a street in Capri ♦ ︎

Every year the nostalgia of the sea, of the white Mediterranean houses, of the scents that only summer can bring, is accompanied by the rediscovery of a now classic collection by Chantecler, Enchanté. The Maison born in Capri years ago proposed an original series of jewels that are inspired by the irregular shape of the small stones used to pave a small road carved into the rock of the small island, which connects the Marina Piccola harbor. Stones that have a variable perimeter, but that manage to fit together next to each other, in an essential mosaic.

The name of the Enchanté collection probably derives from the enchantment that visitors who travel the road of Capri experience. The collection renews itself over the years, but it always remains anchored to its original design: domed rings, wide-band sculpture-rings, earrings, chokers, bracelets, all with a pavé decoration of white diamonds interrupted here and there by insertions of stones like turquoise, red and pink coral, kogolong, onyx. Here are the new pieces from the collection. Giulia Netrese

Diamonds in pills with As29

////

The new As29 jewels: gold and diamonds as a medicine to bring back the good mood. And they succeed ♦ ︎

Why 29 is her favorite number? She hasn’t explained it yet. Certainly, however, the name As29 to its trendy jewelry house also derives from the initials of Audrey Savransky, who founded it. Born in Anvers in a family that has been trading in diamonds for four generations, the designer moved to London and then to Hong Kong, where she now resides. It is in the Asian city that she decided to combine her activity as a jeweler with that of a diamond dealer.

It was 2008. After ten year and more, the Maison is remained faithful to its very aggressive style, but clean, sometimes disorienting.

Bracciale della collezione Illusion in oro nero e diamanti

The design of As29’s jewels reflects the name of the Maison: it is synthetic and at the same time new. The idea is to offer jewelry with diamonds that can be worn at any time of the day, not only in the evening or in ceremonies. Of course, there is no shortage of pieces with a large number of carats, which advise against traveling on the subway to go to the office or a party with friends. But most jewelry has a luxury that can be lived without problems. Indeed, it dispels problems.

The designer, in fact, considers diamonds as a perfect medicine for women. And all As29 jewels are sold in pill-shaped packs. A fun way to present jewelry, which is certainly a medicine for your mood. Lavinia Andorno

The half million dollar Zip

////

Diamonds and period jewels like the Zip necklace by Van Cleef & Arpels: here are the results of Christie’s Magnificent Jewels auction in New York ♦ ︎

A ring with two blue diamonds of 6.7 million dollars. It is the price realized for the most prominent piece of the Magnificent Jewels auction organized by Christie’s in New York. A sign that colored diamonds are still popular, even if the price did not reach the maximum estimate, which was 8 million dollars.

On the other hand, diamonds were still the most requested pieces. A rectangular-cut diamond of 16.33 carats, on platinum and 14-carat gold from Tiffany & Co was beaten to 1.6 million, another marquise-cut diamond ring of 16.69 carats totaled slightly less, 1.45 million, and an oval cut rose diamond ring was purchased for 1.4 million. Other stones have found buyers for figures of just under a million dollars.

The outcome of the sale of jewelry is interesting. The highest price was obtained by a Zip necklace by Van Cleef & Arpels: estimated for a maximum of 200,000 dollars, the piece was more than double: 483,000 green tickets. Instead, the diamond and sapphire bracelet sold for $ 435,000 respected the forecast. The sapphire has also won acclaim for a ring of Bulgari beaten at $ 375,000. And always of the Roman Maison, a multigemma necklace has found a buyer for $ 375,000. Federico Graglia

Butani from Meghan to Ariana

//

The new jewels by Butani, with many diamonds that also like to Meghan Markle and Ariana Grande ♦ ︎

Last winter the name of Butani has become famous also to women who do not have many opportunities to admire high jewelry pieces. A pair of Butani earrings, in fact, was worn by the Duchess of Sussex at the gala dinner organized by President Jioji Konrote in the Fiji Islands. To be precise, chandelier earrings with white and yellow diamonds, valued at $ 500,000. In fact, those earrings were also one of the many exception to the rules by Meghan Markle: the earrings, in fact, were borrowed from Meghan, just as the movie stars do on the red carpet. But according to the etiquette for the official events the British royals usually wear only family jewels. Problems, in any case, that do not seem so fundamental.

The fact remains that Prince Harry’s wife turned the spotlight on one of the most sparkling Maison of the East. Founded by the Indian family of Butani, the brand is based in Hong Kong. It’s focused on jewels of great value, rich in stones, especially diamonds. Like the necklace worn at the Grammy Awards 2019 by Ariana Grande: it was composed of over a thousand diamonds, for an estimated value of $ 380,000. Lavinia Andorno

Ileana Makri’s blades of grass

Green and the Greek sun in the Grass collection by Ileana Makri: gold and emeralds with a pinch of champagne diamonds ♦ ︎

The Greek islands, immersed in an intense blue of Mediterranean Sea, seem burned to the tourists who crowd their sunny beaches during the summer. But actually they are green the rest of the year. The summer sun and the green of the trees inspired jewelry designer Ileana Makri to design the Grass collection. The grass, in fact, gives shape to jewels, with long strands covered with emeralds, or in gold like those burned by the summer sun, with some sparkle of champagne diamonds, like the foam of the waves that break on the shoreline.

Ileana Makri, in fact, has a great passion for travel, but in the first place still remains the land where Western culture was born, Greece. After graduating in Business Administration, the designer chose to follow her true passion and studied jewelry design at the Gia (Gemological Institute of America in Santa Monica). It was a successful choice: from Athens, her jewelry was immediately sold by Barneys in New York. So many collections later, Ileana has won fans like Uma Thurman, Jennifer Lopez, Heidi Klum, Lenny Kravitz, Faith Hill, Rita Wilson, Ashley Olsen, Courtney Cox and Debra Messing.

Leo Pizzo, embroidery in Venice

///

Embroideries of Venetian architecture become jewels with the new collection by Leo Pizzo ♦ ︎

All things made at home. It may seem unnecessary for a jeweler to point out that he knows how to make his own work. But it is not. Without say names (but perhaps sooner or later we will do them), it is known that many large jewelery houses are, in reality, simple design offices. Only the design of the jewel is produced at home, when even this is not entrusted to an external company. The design is then translated into rings, necklaces and earrings from other manufacturers, perhaps in some remote corner of the planet (spoilers: in Thailand or in China).
This premise is necessary to understand that the choice of Leo Pizzo to design and produce his own collections entirely in Valenza is to be emphasized.

The latest production is the Venezia collection. Leo Pizzo designed these jewels with his thoughts turned to the famous city on water.

Anelli in oro bianco e diamanti della collezione Venezia
Anelli in oro bianco e diamanti della collezione Venezia

Not only: the shape of the jewels is inspired by the embroidery of some late Gothic architecture, with Moorish accents. For example, the decorations of Palazzo Ducale, one of the most famous examples of architecture in Venice. But for Leo Pizzo the undoubted charm of the lagoon city is also enhanced by another aspect: in Venice, in Piazza San Marco, the Maison just opened its fourth boutique.

The music of Cartier Clash

//

The Clash collection by Cartier, the new rings, bracelet, necklace and earrings of the Maison. Images and prices of ring, bracelet, earrings by Cartier ♦ ︎

The Clash were an English punk rock band active from 1976 to 1986. But the word clash in the English language is also synonymous with combat. In short, the word evokes a rough, angular, and not very accommodating concept. Translated into the world of jewelry, Clash now identifies with the new Cartier collection. Which, to be precise, is a bit sharp and is reminiscent in style of bracelets and ornaments used by heavy metal and punk fans.
But the collection, presented with great pomp in Paris, and without The Clash music, does not aim to cover the centimeters of skin of rock music fans. On the contrary, with a soundtrack that includes Brian Eno, Ryuchi Sakamoto or Earthater, he wants to be destined for a refined woman.

Exceptional diamonds and jewels transported to the wild West: it’s the Born to Be Wild collection by Messika ♦

So far, Born to Be Wild has been the title of a historical song by Steppenwolf, also well known for being part of the soundtrack of the movie Easy Rider. But from now on, however, Born to Be Wild will also be associated with fine jewelry. And, with an unusual link, a high jewelery sported in the American Wild West.

The queen of diamonds, Messika, has decided to call in this way her impressive collection, presented at Baselworld 2019 in a themed installation.

Messika, linea Black Hawk collection

So much so that a photo shoot sets the exceptional collection in the spaces usually reserved (in the movies) for incursions of native Indians, galloping cowboys, runaway bandits and so on. The collection is very wide and includes different lines, such as Snake Dance, Black Hawk, Diamond Catcher, Shaman Shield, Sun Tribe, Wild Moon.

Messika, Black Hawk
Messika, Black Hawk

Curiously, it seems that these super jewels are at ease in the midst of natural spaces, strong colors and wild nature. It is a similar, but opposite, contrast to what one feels when an element of nature, for example a ferocious animal, is transported to a civilized environment.

Roberto Demeglio plays Chess

//

Roberto Demeglio presents Scacco, a collection of bracelets and rings in ceramic, gold and diamonds ♦

Scacco: black and white square, or other opposite colors, which alternate. Chess also indicates an ancient and intelligent game of Persian origin. And now, even a jewelry collection. The line of jewelery presented by Roberto Demeglio at Baselworld is called Scacco. And, not surprisingly, the collection arrives ten years after the one dedicated to another game, the Domino. Scacco is an evolution of Domino, and also of the other connotative collection, Pura. Easy to guess the geometric motif of the collection. Maybe chess? You guessed it.

The alternation of colors and the creation of bracelets or rings made of tiles is part of the style of the Turin Maison.

Like the other collections that have made the brand famous, Scacco is composed of ceramic elements assembled on a patented indestructible system, which makes each piece flexible and elastic. Each piece is so adaptable to the wearer’s wrist or finger: not a minor aspect for those who want to wear a jewel all day long. Next to white or black ceramic, Scacco uses gold, white or pink, and a fine pavé of diamonds that can also cover the entire surface of the jewel. Giulia Netrese

The spirals of love of Recarlo

//

Recarlo has a new line from the Anniversary collection: jewels are flexible and adapt to fingers and wrist ♦ ︎

Jewelry collections also celebrate anniversaries. Even more so if the collection is called Anniversary and has been one of the classics of Recarlo for years. And given that the Maison of Valenza works almost exclusively with white gold and diamonds, the difficulty is obviously that of being able to propose something new. Yet he succeeds.

In 2019 the Anniversary collection expands by introducing a new line of wrapping jewels.

Always white gold, always diamonds, but organized with a different spiral design. Rings and bracelets are available for one, two or three laps. The spring design gives flexibility and better wearability. Not only is it easier to insert or remove the jewel, but the intervention of the goldsmith is also avoided if the wrist or fingers become too large, due to weight gain or simply due to swelling due to fatigue. In this way, according to the Maison, each jewel adapts to three different sizes.
Anniversary, on the other hand, remains faithful to the choice of heart-cut diamonds, even for tiny ones, with a four-pronged setting.

Picchiotti Classics, breathtaking jewelery

//

Four exceptional pieces of fine jewelry presented by Maison Picchiotti ♦ ︎

There are jewels that are like novels: observing, scrutinizing them, reading their history is tantamount to evading (almost) the simple price factor. Diving into the stones, on the realization, in the design that composes their prose can be an instructive as well as pleasant pastime. This is the case of most of the jewels created by Maison Picchiotti in Valenza. The production of its high jewelry, so rich above all in meaning and aesthetic sense, goes beyond common considerations: they are exceptional, unique pieces. Dot.

Often Picchiotti surprises his fans, even before the customers, showing some of the best pieces on some occasions, like Baselworld.

Thus among the proposals of the Maison this year new pieces of the Picchiotti Classics line appeared on which it is worth stopping: for example, the two defined as Fit to a Queen. It is a pair of earrings and a necklace that have a combination of classicism and, at the same time, of extraordinary nature that makes them masters of their own realm of jewelry. They are made of white gold, baguette-cut diamonds and emeralds with an unusual octagonal cut. The geometric lines that make up these pieces are reminiscent of two other jewels of the same line: the Hadi Pyramis pendant earrings and necklace, characterized by fascinating pink and blue sapphires, with a sparkling effect created by emerald and round cut diamonds. Even these from standing ovations.

Leo Pizzo, the charm of the snake

//

Snakes from the Animalia collection by Leo Pizzo: the charm of the animal symbol of temptation ♦

The animalia or animalier collections are a jewelery classic. Perhaps because the first jewels worn by mankind were made with animal elements, such as teeth or bones. Or, perhaps, because the animal world continues to have a great fascination for humans. Leo Pizzo, an Italian jeweler based in Valenza, proposed new pieces from his Animalia collection to Baselworld.

In particular, the collection celebrates the snake, an emblem of seduction and renewal, as well as one of the most used symbols.

The snake is reproduced with different materials: rose gold and diamonds, white gold and diamonds, with sapphires, or with small emeralds. Snakes have one or more coils within which to wrap their fingers, neck or wrist. La Maison also offers coordinated pieces, such as the brooch to match the ring or to wear alone.
