Geometrical Cadar

The geometries by Cadar: here is the Maison who won the Couture Design ♦ ︎

In 2016, Fashion Group International had named Cadar as the Rising Star of jewelery. And in 2017, the New York brand won the Couture Design Awards as Best in Gold at its second appearance in Las Vegas and in 2018 it was the turn of the Gold Design of the Year at the Town & Country Magazine Jewelry Awards. Where will goes the maison created by Michal Kadar, former fashion designer in Tel Aviv and art scholar, come? The designer’s second life in the Big Apple seems a triumphal march. But creating objects in three dimensions is not new to her. Her father was a sculptor and Michal picked up shells for him, that he then used for his works.

But her cultural background also includes the simplicity of Japanese tradition, the mystery of the North African desert and the Florentine Renaissance: not by chance a part of the processing of her jewels is made in Italy. Unlike other designers, the Cadar’s founder chose a rigorous and precise style: gold, with some small contour diamonds. But the geometry and the volumes of jewels are the ones that distinguish the style of the little Maison. Simple but very effective shapes, combined with the ability to create easily wearable jewels.

All the winners of the Couture Design Awards

Here are the 14 winners of the Couture Design Awards 2017: four are Italian ♦ ︎
The Couture Design Awards is one of the most sought-after occasions by jewelers for the international prestige that offers the stage at the show in Las Vegas. The prize awarded in the various and numerous sections of the event is as a designer or brand medal. Here are the 2017 winners. Now look: four out of 14 prize-winning are Italians. A remarkable percentage, also because the recognition concerns “heavy” categories. In particular, the Maison Pasquale Bruni was awarded for the Best in Haute Couture category, Giovanni Ferraris went Best in Editor’s Choice, to Mariani 1878 the Best in People’s Choice and Garavelli, the Best in Diamonds Below 20K dollars.
The Best in Silver award went to Atelier Zobel for a pendent with honeycomb shape, while Nadine Ghosn, a young designer who made his debut in Las Vegas this year, received the Best in Innovative Award for his burger-ring, luxury with irony. The Israeli brand Yvel, won the Best in Pearls award for his baroque pearl ring, the Best in Platinum award went to Heinrich and Denzel, a German brand specializing in jewelery with this metal, and Jade Trau obtained the highest degree of consensus Best in Bridal category. The jeweler of New York Cadar won the Best in Gold prize, while designer Sara Freedenfeld was awarded the Best in Colored Gemstones Below 20K Dollars, and John Hardy the Best in Colored Gemstones Above 20K Dollars. Best in Diamonds Above 20K dollars was touched by Brazilian Fernando Jorge and Best in Men’s Jewelry at Furrer Jacot. Finally, Best in Debuting at Couture deserves Leyla Abdollahi London. A Prize to Mariani 1878

Mariani 1878 wins the Couture Design Awards in the Best in People’s Choice category ♦
Mariani 1878 is the jewel winner in the Best in People’s Choice category of the Couture Design Awards 2017. The Italian Maison, based in Monza, nearby Milan, brings home, from Las Vegas, an important prize. The company has a tradition that, as its name suggests, dates back to the nineteenth century. In fact, its first jewels were created almost 140 years ago by Camillo Mariani, a silversmith and master goldsmith active in Milan where, it’s not by accident, one of the streets of the center is called via Orefici (means goldsmiths). The Mariani of that time specialized in jewelry and sacred ornaments, such as goblets and crosses. But artisan skill has briefly moved to jewelery, which has now received a completely new secular consecration in Las Vegas. Mariani 1878, on the other hand, has a large audience of admirers, and sells quite a lot out of Italy, particularly in the Middle East and the United States. Rudy Serra

Garavelli on the podium of the Couture Design Awards

Garavelli wins the Couture Design Awards with a gold jewel and diamonds ♦ ︎

Last year at the Couture Design Awards there was no Italian name either. This year is different. Among the winners, in fact, there is also Garavelli, a historic company in Valenza, which was first in the category of Diamonds under $ 20,000. Gaining points at Garavelli was his bracelet in gold and diamonds, certainly a jewel of great impact. Black color is the result of a process called nanoceramic, but it has nothing to do with ceramic productions: it is a finish, a color, that is gold.
Elisabetta and Stefano Molina, designer and gemmological soul of the brand that is going to be one hundred years (in 2020) can be legitimately satisfied. The process has already been used for one of Garavelli Aldo’s most successful collections (the full name of Maison), such as the Dragon Jewelry line, where aesthetics combines technology. In the case of the prize jewel, the jewel has a wavy volume, defined by squares that are delimited by thin lines made up of diamonds. Lavinia Andorno
