When Cartier collects Cartier

/

The book of the year is The Cartier Collection: Jewelry. The history of the French Maison through 600 images ♦ ︎

It is probably the most important book on the jewels of 2019. The French publishing house Flammarion has edited a great work in two volumes, written by François Chaille, Thierry Coudert, Christophe Vachaudez, Violette Petit and Michael Spink. The title says it all: The Cartier Collection: Jewelry. If you love the great Maison of jewelry, it’s the book for you. But, beware, it costs like as a jewel: $ 425. On the other hand, it will give a classy tone to the coffee table in front of your sofa.

The book is centered on the Cartier collection, started by the Maison in 1973 and includes more than 1600 ranging from 1860 to today and is the largest collection in the world of this genre.

The Cartier Collection: Jewelry
The Cartier Collection: Jewelry

The two volumes retrace the history and testify to the originality and artistic genius that made Cartier famous. Leafing through the pages are extraordinary pieces, such as those possessed by Queen Elizabeth, purchased by the Duchess of Windsor, Daisy Fellowes, Barbara Hutton and Sir Bhupinder Singh, the Maharaja of Patiala, and so on. All this through original designs and images of legendary gemstones. In all, there are more than 600 images from the vast archives of Cartier, some unpublished. If you love jewelry break the piggy bank. Margherita Donato

The new Cartier crocodiles

//

An exceptional set of high jewelry signed by Cartier, with 14 Colombian emeralds ♦ ︎

A piece of jewelry that made history has inspired a new exceptional Cartier parure. This is a suite composed of necklace, ring and earrings inspired by the famous necklace made by Cartier in 1975 for the Mexican actress María Félix.

The high jewelry set has a set of 14 emeralds from Colombia.

Cartier, dettaglio della collana
Cartier, dettaglio della collana

The emeralds of the jewels, which reflect the shape of the crocodile, weigh a total of 46.45 carats. They are stones considered out of the norm, that is of exceptional beauty and uniformity. To the 14 large emeralds used, they are added with the shape of pearls, always of an intense green color. Also the sculptural aspect of the jewels is valuable, with the crocodile that seems ready to bite those who approach (but it will not happen). Not only that: by stretching the back part towards the tail, the pieces of the necklace can be wrapped around the neck, wrist or finger, or be suspended like a pair of dangling earrings. The legs of the animal, like its scales, have been specially designed to be comfortable even in contact with the skin.

This high jewelry crocodile is inspired, as mentioned above, in the necklace created in 1975 for María Félix.

It is a piece that is now part of the history of the Maison, in the Cartier Collection. The necklace consisted of two completely articulated crocodiles, one with emerald pavé and the other with yellow diamonds. In addition to gold, for this necklace we have used 1023 fancy bright brilliant-cut diamonds of 60.02ct, two cabochon emeralds (eyes), another 1060 emeralds, total weight of 66.86ct, two cabochon rubies (eyes) . Each crocodile is completely articulated and can be worn like a brooch. Lavinia Andorno

Christie’s in auction with rare pearls and three Jar

The Magnificent Jewels at Christie’s auction in Geneva: sapphires, pearls of historical origin and three pieces of Jar ♦ ︎

There will not be only The Pink Legacy, the 19-carat rose diamond estimated at up to 50 million dollars to attract the attention of collectors on November 13 in Geneva. The auction of Magnificent Jewels by Christie’s at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues provides, in fact, a parade of over 300 jewels. Diamonds, in fact, but also precious stones and pearls, with jewels of historic Maison and contemporary masters like Jar.

For example, the earrings with sapphires of 40.29 and 38.60 carats and white circular cut diamonds of David Morris, or a Panthére of Cartier with diamonds and onyx. Out of the ordinary is also the 16.33 carat cushion-cut sapphire set with triangular-shaped and circular-cut diamonds and a 7.83-karat Kashmir sapphire set among baguette-cut diamonds.

Christie’s also highlights the steel and diamond tiara designed by Cartier, dated 1912-1915.

Tiara in acciaio e diamanti firmata da Cartier, e datata 1912-1915
Tiara in acciaio e diamanti firmata da Cartier, e datata 1912-1915

It brings the brand of creator Henri Picq, who was responsible for some of the most exceptional jewelry made by Cartier in the early twentieth century. This tiara was not only designed by one of the greatest fashion houses of all time, but was also made by one of the best laboratories in the world at the time. After a long history, the tiara was part of the heritage of the von Fürstenberg family until 2015.
Among the pieces of the big names in jewelery, there is an Egyptian-style sautoir by Van Cleef & Arpels dated 1924, in full Egyptology of those years. It depicts a winged scarab, representing Khepri, the morning sun. In antiquity these objects were placed on the chest of the dead as a symbol of resurrection. The cartouche-shaped panel surrounding the scarab remembers those used to write the names of kings in the hieroglyphs. The hawk was the protector of royalty in ancient Egypt.

The three jewels of Jar for sale were purchased by their current owners directly from the Place Vendôme atelier in Paris and will be offered for auction for the first time.

The spectacular multi-bud brooch Bouquet of violets was created in 1993 and includes pink tourmalines, rubies, sapphires, colored and colorless diamonds, green garnets and tanzanites. The butterfly brooch dates back to 1990, while the Ivy Leaves earrings, created a year later, are set with single-cut diamonds in silver and gold.

For pearl lovers, there are some with an adventurous story. Like the pearl necklace purchased by Cartier in May 1920 by Horace Elgin Dodge (1868-1920),a former mechanics who became rich in America producing engines and automobiles. Horace Dodge gave the necklace to his daughter by paying a sum equivalent to 70 million today’s dollars. The origin of the pearls is attributed to the Empress of Russia Catherine the Great.

The jewels of Tefaf in New York

The Tefaf returns to New York for the Fall with so many exceptional jewels ♦ ︎

The Tefaf is back in New York, the great event dedicated to design, antiques and precious objects, like jewels. Born in Maastricht, the fair has long since expanded its appointments with two events in the American city, in spring and autumn (October 27-31 in 2018). The reason is clear: New York offers the ideal setting in America for a fair like Tefaf, which remains the benchmark for the European market. In short, it is a point of arrival for traders and lovers of beauty, from painting (with works until 1920) to jewelry, but in this case it is not only vintage.

At Tefaf in New York there are pieces of Maison like Cartier, Otto Jakob, Hemmerle or designers like Suzanne Belperron and René Lalique.

In addition to the commercial aspect, cultural events are also scheduled at Tefaf, such as a conference on Sunday, October 28th, which focuses on Men and Jewelry: does an earring have gender? Why, in short, are the jewels in the West seen so often as a feminine art form? Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Museum prepares an exhibition entitled Jewelry: The Body Transformed. In short, for those who happen in New York it is an opportunity to consider the jewels also from a cultural point of view. Margherita Donato

Cufflinks with Sotheby’s

Cufflinks for men made by the big names in jewelry: they are auctioned by Sotheby’s ♦ ︎

Cufflinks are probably the only kind of twins that does not worry a man. On the contrary, the jewels as buttons used to close the cuffs of the shirts are coveted by many, exhibited by some, sought after by others. In short, even if the shirts that need the twins are reserved for a minority, it is not said that in the men’s wardrobe there is not some head of this kind. Not to mention that even some women like to experience the thrill of a shirt with cufflinks.

From 19 to 29 October Sotheby’s sells a collection of one hundred cufflinks online.

There are also twins with typically male subjects, such as golf, enamel or diamond playing cards, Bulgari cartridges, vintage or Formula 1 cars, champagne bottles and, of course, female figures and skulls in coral or diamonds . “An extravagant journey into the elegance of the masculine universe with examples of high jewelery and irreverent combinations of styles and materials”, says jewelery specialist Sara Miconi.

Click: the jewels seen by Milena Mazza

The jewels seen by a top photographer: Milena Mazza ♦

It is not enough to produce jewels, we must also know how to show them. Let’s face it: 99 percent of jewelers choose the classic way to show them on a neutral background. It is usually a white or black surface, sometimes gray or of an indefinite color. In this way, attention is focused on the jewel, in agreement, but the emotion or the feeling that the object can connect with whoever buys it is not communicated. In short, it is the simplest solution, not wrong, but not even original. There are, however, other ways to portray jewels. For example, that of the great photographer Milena Mazza, who has chosen to combine the jewels with a glam, strong, emotional, dynamic and colorful image. Milena is one of the rare professionals who is able to show a jewel in a strong context without making it disappear but, on the contrary, exalting it. The idea of this series of images was that of a shooting in which rings, bracelets and necklaces were worn by a model struggling with food & drink. The contrast in the images is strong: rings and bracelets in white gold and diamonds are worn while a woman rubs the dough for the pizza, with a hand full of strawberries squeezed rings. Or rings and bracelets with diamonds sparkle on hands that break the ice with an awl. The surprising effect is assured, and it is also a bit sensual.

From movement to the still life

Milena Mazza, a photographer, was born in Bologna, but started working in the cinema: “I was the first woman in Europe to be the assistant operator, that is the camera assistant when she was filming: a very important role technical”, she says. “For years, I’ve always worked, every day, until I found myself taking pictures at the request of a client and I found out that I liked it a lot more.” A wise choice. “I started working with the images because, as soon as I finished my studies, I decided to devote myself to what I was most passionate about, since a great part of life is spent working”. A profession in which, however, there are no surprises: “I had a thousand special requests, but the most unusual was to photograph a model on the toilet for an advertisement,” she says.

Malena Mazza also adds a tip to the readers of gioiellis.com: “If you want to try to photograph your jewel, it’s better to put it in direct sunlight”. The jewels, on the other hand, are not just a job: “What I most willingly wear are my emerald and brilliant earrings. I always wear them “, she smiles.

Cartier’s Coloratura

Coloratura collection by Cartier: 240 incredible pieces of high jewelery ♦ ︎

What is more infinite than a nuance? Unable to count the individual points that make up a hue. On the other hand, it is possible to paint with colors a maxi collection of fine jewelry, as Cartier did: 240 pieces, each a world in itself. The collection is called Coloratura, an Italian word that refers to the virtuosity of lyrical singers. In Italian, in fact, it is a term that is used for a particular kind of singing, those variations, virtuosities, often improvised by the singer with vocalizations, trills and vocal preciousness. In short, something exceptional and pleasant. If you carry this concept into the world of high jewelery, the coloratura of the Coloratura collection turns into a kind of hyper virtuosity of contrasts between Asia and the West, references to Japan, the complexity of India and even the European imaginary of Africa. In this way it is also a universal collection, which meets the taste of different people, with different cultures and sensibilities. And where the coloring is, of course, that of the stones.
For example, there is a choker called Yoshino, reminiscent of sapphires and diamonds with cherry blossoms in Japan. Or a bracelet, Holika, inspired by the famous Holi Indian feast, where everyone is colored, with a 65 carat rubellite in the center, but also tourmaline and crisoberillo pearls, mounted on voluminous circle earrings. Or, again, the Chromaphonia necklace, which is composed of 22 Baroque emeralds from Afghanistan (very rare), and which is inspired by the typical costumes of Hungary. Inspired by Africa is the Kanaga suite, with triangular cut and baguette diamonds, which can be found at the end of a necklace with strands of small spinel pearls. Really a collection for specialists in coloratura, the divas. Margherita Donato

But also Hermès, because the sale also includes some bags of the Parisian brand and some watches, selected by the founder of Colette, Sarah Andelman, and photographed by Koto Bolofo, who set some of the most prestigious jewels in an unusual context of vegetables, mushrooms, berries.
The most precious piece is, perhaps, a rivière necklace by Harry Winston, with emeralds, diamonds, on platinum and 18-karat gold, circa 1985-1990, accompanied by a certificate of SSEF certifying the origin of Colombia of emeralds. A platinum ring of Boucheron should also arouse interest, with a diamond of over 11 carats, round cut. And always in the genre, in the catalog also appears a ring with emerald cut diamond of 7 carats, color D, good overall quality.

The jewels of Meghan Markle

//

The jewels for the wedding of Meghan Markle with Prince Harry. The royal tiara, the ring of Diana and two Cartier ♦ ︎
It was one of the questions surrounding Meghan Markle’s wedding with Prince Harry. Now the curiosity has been satisfied: the new Duchess of Sussex wore the tiara Diamond Bandeau of the royal collection on her wedding day. In particular it is the tiara in platinum and diamonds in the art deco style that has a long story. In fact, it belonged to Queen Mary and, later to Queen Elizabeth. And, for the occasion, by Harry’s wife, that is also the new Duke of Sussex. The royal tiara was not the only jewel worn by Meghan. Her face was also illuminated by a pair of Cartier earrings from the Windsor collection, while her wrist had a new bracelet, also by Cartier. The choice was not, of course, random.
According to tradition, Meghan has worn something new, something old, something used. And something blue. In the party after the official ceremony, the former actress showed off a ring with a large aquamarine. According to the experts of the royal house, it is the same ring worn by Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, during a private visit from Christie’s in 1997, on the occasion of the auction of her clothes. Perhaps a way to remember Diana too: during the ceremony, a seat was left empty just to remember the missing princess. Giulia Netrese

Cartier victim of a theft (but agrees)

Anne Hathaway, Sandra Bullock Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling and Helena Bonham Carter will robbers a precious Cartier necklace. It is the new film Ocean’s 8 ♦ ︎
Women. Robbers. And moreover with the aim of getting your hands on a precious Cartier necklace. It’s the subject of Ocean’s 8, the new film of the series inaugurated with Ocean’s 11. But the new spin-off of the series (there have already been Ocean’s 12 and 13), will have a cast all female. And, above all, it will have as a partner the French Maison.
The plot of the film sees Debbie Ocean / Sandra Bullock (the sister of Danny Ocean, played in the first film by George Clooney) brings together a band of women composed by Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling and Helena Bonham Carter. They must do the theft of the century: the legendary Toussaint necklace, to be worn by the actress (in the film) Daphne Kluger, a character played by Anne Hathaway. The shot takes place during the annual Met Gala, when actresses and celebrities parade on the red carpet with dizzying jewelry. In short, it is almost a partnership, given that Cartier has created a set for the robbery of the film.
And this is not just any necklace: the Toussaint series is a tribute to Jeanne Toussaint, Cartier’s creative director in the 1930s, who played a decisive role in establishing the Cartier style. The original necklace was instead designed in 1931 for the Maharaja of Nawanagar by Jacques Cartier, but no longer exists, although Cartier has preserved in his archives a design drawing and photographs of the jewel and its owner. The one worn by Anne Hathaway, however, is reduced by 15-20% compared to the original size, which was designed for a man.
The colored diamonds in the original piece have been replaced with zirconium oxides, a natural material, mounted on white gold. But it was not easy: Cartier mobilized its high jewelry workshops for eight weeks, the time (short) required by the production of the film. But that’s not all: in the film there are also other Cartier jewels and watches. In addition to the Cartier Mansion on 52nd Street. Giulia Netrese

Jewels at auction with Faraone

Faraone Casa d’Aste returns with a sale of 300 pieces: here are the most precious jewels ♦ ︎
In Milan the jewels of Faraone Casa d’Aste are back. The sale scheduled for May 14 includes over 300 lots of jewelry and watches of the twentieth century. The one scheduled at the Four Seasons Hotel in Milan is the first of two annual auction events (now a classic), while the second one precedes the Christmas period. The May auction catalog, among other things, marks a growth compared to the previous appointments of Faraone Casa d’Aste: in fact, it exceeds the 240 lots in November and 160 in May 2017.
The most precious pieces
The company, which is the arm specialized in the sales of the historic Faraone jewelry, signals in particular two rings. The first is made of platinum with Kashmir sapphire, one of the rarest gems in the world, with a cushion cut of about 9 carats, surrounded by diamonds. The second ring, on the other hand, has a 13-carat Colombian emerald wrapped in baguette-cut diamonds. Other pieces that may be among the most requested: a platinum pin, punched Monture Cartier, with a 3.10 carat Colombian emerald placed in the middle of a game of platinum bands covered with 8.20 carats of old cut diamonds and baguettes. On sale also a set of Van Cleef & Arpels, consisting of ring and earrings in platinum with 14 carats of brilliant cut diamonds and 15 carats of round rubies, plus a bracelet, also in platinum, with five sapphires for a total of 22 carats surrounded by as many carats of baguette and brilliant diamonds. As for the jewels, there is also a Bulgari punched platinum ring with a central cut diamond of about 3 carats, surrounded by brilliant cut diamonds and baguette with a total weight of about 3 carats, and a Cartier ring with an octagonal fancy yellow diamond weighing 3.09 carats with two lateral triangular diamonds weighing about 1 carat, accompanied by its original case.
Collectible watches
The auction, in addition to jewelry, also offers over 50 watches, including a Rolex Daytona Patrizzi ref 16520 caliber 4030, with steel case and bracelet oyster, desired by collectors for the unique color variation of the three counters placed on the dial, due to the natural oxidation of silver, which make it particularly sought after. In addition to a series of sought-after Rolexes, for sale an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph ref. 25770ST steel and a rare Santos Dumont Louis Cartier Ultra-Thin. Finally, Faraone Casa d’Aste offers a collection of 22 pairs of twins and five diamonds on a map weighing approximately 1.40 carats of type HVVS1. Federico Graglia

The 5 most expensive engagement rings ever

Engagement rings: here are the five most expensive ever celebrity gifts like Paris Hilton, Beyoncé or Grace Kelly. The one with the highest price is … ♦

What have been the five top engagement rings so far? There is no official ranking. There are even cases like that of Paris Hilton, who lost the $ 2 million engagement ring (the latest in a series) that was given to her by her fiancé and promised husband, Chris Zylka. In any case, it is possible to identify the engagement rings that have been awarded and have set a hammer price at a public auction. In short, on many rings given to actresses or famous women you can make assumptions. On these, instead, there is a certainty. So, here are the most expensive engagement rings.

What are the five top engagement rings of the world? You can establish a ranking considering the hammer price at auction or at shop. In this case, here are the winners.

L'anello Trombino con diamante Blu di Bulgari
The Trombino ring with blue diamond by Bulgari

The ring more expensive is signed Bulgari. On 24 April 2013, the «Trombino ring» was sold in London by auction house Bonhams to 7.9 million euro, equivalent to 9.5 million dollars. It is a ring with a 15.30 carats blue diamond. The diamond is cut to cushion within a pavé brilliant-cut diamonds and baguette cut diamonds. Blue diamonds are extremely rare. Over the last ten years, only thirty blue diamonds over five carats were beaten at auction in the world. Few if we compare with the tens of thousands of colorless diamonds sold in the same period. The blue color of the diamond is caused by trace of boron, that makes diamonds semi-conductors of electricity: the blue color is intensified when the diamond is hot. Not only: these diamonds can also become phosphorescent exposed to short wave UV light and project a red glow for a few seconds. The diamond is mounted in a ring Trombino created by Bulgari in the mid-1960s. The ring was bought by Laurence Graff, of Graff Diamonds.

Elizabeth Taylor con l'anello di fidanzamento
Elizabeth Taylor with engagement ring

Diamond ring by 33.19 carat Krupp and Taylor-Burton, sold for $ 8.8 million. The ring was given to Elizabeth Taylor by Richard Burton. The diamonds, Asscher-cut, has long been worn by Elizabeth Taylor, before being sold at auction by Christie’s in 2011 for a price of $ 8.8 million. Originally the ring was owned by the German actress Vera Krupp, wife of industrialist Alfred Krupp.

Beyoncé con l'anello da 5 milioni di dollari
Beyoncé with the $5 million ring

In third place is the Beyoncé’s 18-carat diamond ring valued at $ 5,000,000, a gift from rapper Jay Z. The ring is signed Lorraine Schwartz and features a diamond-cut emerald. The diamond, colorless, is recognized to be one of the best in the world.

Paris Hilton con l'anello porta jella
Paris Hilton with bad luck ring

In fourth place is the ring of Paris Hilton, with a 24-carat diamond worth $ 4.7 million. The heiress-starlet has received the ring from the young greek namesake  Paris Latsis. Their happiness was ended rapidly, but the 24-carat diamond with an emerald-cut mounted on a white gold band retains its charm. Paris Hilton, however, do not have it anymore: after breaking the engagement, the ring was sold at auction to raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. But for nearly half of its original price.

Grace Kelly con l'anello di diamanti taglio smeraldo
Grace Kelly with the emerald cut diamond ring

In fifth place the Grace Kelly’s Cartier ring , a 10:47 carat diamond, worth 4.06 million dollars, fruit of love of Prince Rainier III of Monaco. This also has an emerald cut diamond, and is known to be one of the best among those produced by Cartier. But if inflation is taken into account, the cost today would exceed 44 million.

Cartier in exhibition

Over 300 great jewels of Cartier in a major exhibition: there is also the Queen Elizabeth’s tiara worn by Kate Middleton ♦ ︎
There are jewelry company that resemble royal families. They have a long tradition behind them and, above all, they are considered by everyone (even by competitors) a span above the others. In short, there are Maison with blue blood. And, not by chance, they are also the favorites by royals, the real ones. One of these queens of jewelry is Cartier. Five years ago, Cartier decided to celebrate its rich tradition with a major exhibition in Paris, at the Grand Palais. Now, a little surprisingly, he replicates this exposure in Australia. The exhibition Cartier: The Exhibition is organized at the National Gallery in Canberra, city where is the Australian Parliament (no, it’s not in Sydney) and presents over 300 jewels, including owned by royal families who kindly lent them to the exhibition, or belonged to celebrities, more rare pieces that are part of the Cartier collection. There are tiaras, necklaces, brooches and earrings that are part of a piece of history: in all, 7776 diamonds, 1246 emeralds, 301 sapphires, 249 other colored gems of 3500 carats. Like the diamond brooch of the Australian opera singer Dame Nellie Melba, the imperial jadeite necklace of the heiress Barbara Hutton, the 10.48-carat diamond engagement ring of Princess Grace of Monaco, the diamond and ruby necklace from Elizabeth Taylor (third husband’s gift Mike Todd).
Many of the exhibited pieces have a long history. Like the Halo Tiara, ordered by George VI to Cartier three weeks before becoming king , in 1936. The platinum tiara, with 739 round brilliant diamonds and 149 baguette-cut diamonds, was for his future wife Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (the queen mother). Which then gave the tiara to the future Queen of England, Elizabeth II, for the eighteenth birthday. The Halo Tiara was back to shine in public in 2011, worn by Kate Middleton for her marriage to Prince William.
The exhibition also includes a selection of original preparatory drawings, portraits, historical photographs, films, advertising material, tools for creating jewelry and equipment to provide an overview of Cartier history. Margherita Donato

Faraone Casa d’Aste, the top lot is a sapphire

From Faraone Casa d’Aste the jewels come back, with a rare sapphire of Kashmir ♦ ︎
The jewelery and watch auctions in Milan are back with a collection of over 300 lots that will be beaten on May 14 by Faraone Casa d’Aste. Also on this occasion the sale will take place at the Four Seasons. And it promises to be an interesting event for enthusiasts and collectors. The historic Milanese company also notes the growing trust of the owners of pieces for sale, given that the number of lots is more than 240 in November and 160 in May 2017.
Among the pieces in the catalog, and among the many rings, there are two in particular. The stone has a cushion cut and weighs about 9 carats, surrounded by diamonds. On the second ring there is a 13-carat Colombian emerald, wrapped in baguette-cut diamonds. In addition to these two pieces, in particular a platinum pin, punched by Monture Cartier, with a 3.10 carat Colombian emerald placed in the center of a play of platinum bands covered with 8.20 ct. of cut diamonds in old cut and baguettes. Always among the most popular choices is a set of Van Cleef & Arpels consisting of ring and earrings in platinum with 14 carats of brilliant cut diamonds and 15 carats of round rubies, plus a bracelet always in platinum with 5 sapphires for a total of 22 carats, surrounded by as many carats of baguette and brilliant diamonds. Furthermore, in the catalog there is a ring in platinum punched Bulgari with a central cut diamond of about 3 carats, surrounded by brilliant cut diamonds and baguette for others about 3 carats, and a Cartier ring, with fancy yellow octagonal diamond weighing 3,09 carats with two lateral triangular diamonds weighing about 1 carat, accompanied by its original case.
What time is it
The second part of the auction is dedicated to the fans of the lancets. There are about fifty watches for sale, including a Rolex Daytona Patrizzi ref 16520 caliber 4030, with steel case and bracelet oyster, desired by collectors for the unique color variation of the three counters on the dial, due to the natural oxidation of silver , which make it particularly coveted. In addition to other Rolex, there is also an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph ref. 25770ST steel and a rare Santos Dumont Louis Cartier Ultra-Thin.

Jar and a pink diamond are the stars at Christie’s

A pink diamond and a ring of Jar are the stars of Christie’s Magnificent Jewels auction in New York ♦ ︎
Spring returns to pink, like peach blossoms and like the diamond that Christie’s sells at the Magnificent Jewels auction in New York on April 17th. The diamond is mounted on a platinum and rose gold ring. It is an 8.42 carat stone, intense rose fancy brilliant cut but «modified rectangular», VVS1 clarity and «potentially internally impeccable». On the sides the stone has two other baguette diamonds. The ring is valued between 4 and 6 million dollars.
But, of course, the auction has other interesting pieces of Maison such as Boucheron, Bulgari, Cartier, David Webb, Harry Winston, Tiffany & Co. in the catalog. It is not necessary to be a millionaire to participate (also online) in the purchase: prices start at 4000 dollars. Among the most popular pieces there are classic jewels, like a necklace of diamonds and emeralds by Van Cleef & Arpels (estimate up to 1.25 million dollars), or rings with big diamonds.
Two rare Jar
But there are also rare jewels and coveted by collectors, like two pieces signed Jar, designer who has fans all over the world. If you do not know him, know that Jar represents the initials of Joel Arthur Rosenthal, born in 1943 in New York in a family of modest possibilities. He graduated from Harvard in 1966, and then moved to Paris. Before joining the Olympus of jewelry, he worked as a screenwriter. She refined her skills with Bulgari in New York, and then returned to Paris where she opened a boutique in Place Vendôme with her partner, Pierre Jeannet. His rare pieces are received almost like an event. In this case, Christie’s auctioned jewels will benefit the Art for Justice Fund, which aims to reform the justice system in the United States.
Jar’s jewels at auction are, therefore, a Moghul style brooch, created in 1999, in silver and 18-karat gold. It consists of a kind of stylized dome with an amethyst pavé surrounding a 14.77 carat cushioned sapphire. The pendant has a border of diamonds and a tassel of natural pearls. Not only that: the back is a pavé of diamonds. Necklace and pendant are valued up to $ 300,000. The second piece is, apparently, more traditional: a ring. In reality, the 22.76-carat oval diamond, color D and VVS1 clarity, is suspended in a thin flush mount with a micro-pavé on platinum. In this case the maximum estimate is 3.5 million. Tiffany and Cartier, the stars online

/

Tiffany and Cartier have the best online services in the L2 ranking ♦ ︎
L2 is a New York-based consulting firm that specializes in comparative analysis of brand digital performance. Now L2 has released its annual report, which ranks the digital expertise of some of the world’s largest watch and jewelery brands. In short, it is a ranking of those who better use web and social media. Result: out of 70 brands examined, only two are promoted with full marks: Tiffany and Cartier.
The L2 exam focused on four factors: the website and e-commerce, with the examination of the loading speed, the product pages, the user experience and online customer support. And, then, the effectiveness of digital marketing, for example visibility in Google searches, and articles on the media, but not those paid. That is, those you read on gioiellis.com, unlike photos and quotes published on many blogs that are nothing but masked advertising. Other factors considered for the ranking are the loading speed on tablets and smartphones, and more generally the functionality tested on different devices.
After x-raying the digital activities of the 70 brands, L2 awarded points in five categories: Genius (for those who exceeded 140), Gifted (110-139), Average (109-90), Challenged (89-70) and Feeble (<70). Only two eventually returned to the Genius category: Tiffany & Co. (144 points) and Cartier (140).
Tiffany, for example, boasts the best product pages, as well as excellent feedback in articles on various newspapers. Cartier, on the other hand, earned points for the ease of booking online appointments and a strong presence on YouTube and Instagram. Just below the two best performances is Swarovski (139), followed by Alex & Ani (138) and David Yurman (136). Pandora and two brands of the LVMH group, namely Bulgari and TAG Heuer, are also classified in the first ten places. Lastly, the brands include Longines (by Swatch Group), eMontblanc, a brand instead of Richemont. These brands, however, have returned to the Gifted category. Among the jewelery brands, they collected Fabergé points (68), a trademark owned by Gemfields; Buccellati (63), and Graff (58).
