The architectures of Gaudì in the collection of Carla Amorim

Carla Amorim is a Brazilian designer who follows a path a little different from that of her colleagues. Perhaps she too depends on her religious faith, which she openly manifests and which has inspired several jewelry collections. But the Christian faith is not the only source of interest. The designer must also be fascinated by the world of architecture, but of a particular type, out of the ordinary. Her Maison has recently launched a collection dedicated to Antoni Gaudì (1852-1926). It is worth remembering, for those who have never visited his works in Barcelona, that Gaudì was a Spanish architect, Catalan, considered an exponent of modernism, but with a completely eclectic interpretation. Seven of the buildings he designed in the Catalan city are Unesco heritage.

In any case, the collection of Carla Amorim dedicated to Gaudì has nothing extravagant: it offers earrings, rings and necklaces in rose gold, with the use of stones such as diamonds, peridot, morganite and chrysoprase. Each jewel, however, has the name of one of the architect’s works.

New jewelers in support of Ukraine

Jewelers in support of Ukraine. In March, some jewelers launched a fundraiser for children who were victims of war. So far they have raised around £ 25,000 for Hope and Homes for Children, an NGO currently working in Ukraine, in combination with gems extracted from a Brazilian Cruzeiro mine. The support action continues and other designs have been added in recent months. Brazilian-born designer Ana Khouri, for example, has just donated a pair of earrings in yellow beryl and blue indicolite tourmaline, the colors of the Ukrainian flag.

The idea of the jewelry for Ukraine is by Annabel Davidson of Vanity Fair on Jewelery: when Russia started the war she was in Brazil visiting the Cruzeiro mine, which is located in the state of Minas Gerais, north of Sao Paulo . The mine produces tourmaline, quartz, morganite, aquamarine and garnet, as well as blue indicolite tourmaline and yellow heliodine, the colors of the Ukrainian flag. Davidson put two and two together.

The CEO of the mine, Douglas Neves, immediately agreed to donate the gems for the project to support the Ukrainian people. They joined immediately: Carla Amorim, Ara Vartanian, Prasi and Kika Alvarenga from Brazil, Jessica McCormack in London,  Ana Khouri in New York and Maggi Simpkins based in Los Angeles, together with Ruth Tomlinson and Sophie Breitmeyer. Other jewelers, such as Solange Azagury-Partridge, Anabela Chan and Robinson Pelham, have instead decided to support the Red Cross or organizations such as Care and Save the Children UK.

The support is also an opportunity for jewelry lovers, who are drawn by lot. The money raised is passed on to Hope and Homes for Children, which supports volunteers in Ukraine.

The poetic hope of Carla Amorim

A poet gives away the most precious jewel: hope. And a jewelry designer transforms this feeling into a collection: this was Carla Amorim‘s inspiration. The collection is Esperança. The designer is one of the big names in Brazilian jewelry, known for having her creative work based on nature, architecture and religiosity. But not only. “I entered the universe of Cora Coralina, and she continues to be enchanted by her wisdom. She touched my heart with words full of hope, which is all we need for the time we are passing, ”explained the designer.

Cora Coralina is the pseudonym of the Brazilian writer and poet Anna Lins dos Guimarães Peixoto Bretas, who passed away in 1985. She is considered one of the most important Brazilian writers: her first book (Poemas dos Becos de Goiás and Estórias Mais) was published in 1965. But don’t think of an intellectual locked in her ivory tower. Cora Coralina spent her working life working as a pastry chef in a small bakery. And the jewels? They are made of gold, with delicate metal processing and with the addition of diamonds, emeralds, tourmaline. The hope is also to be able to wear them.

Carla Amorim’s Luz

Brazil’s light proposed through the jewelry of Luz collection by Carla Amorim ♦ ︎
Brazil is an immense country with great spaces. And with breathtaking views. But it is also a country that has an intense light that is reflected on the Amazon’s woods, Sertao plains, as well as among the skyscrapers of St. Paul. And in Brazil’s light, Brazilian designer Carla Amorim devotes a collection of jewels. It’s called Luz the collection with earrings, bracelets, necklaces that does not differ from the historical style of the brand. The jewels are gold, so gold, in four different colors: in addition to the classic yellow, white and pink, it adds a dark tint. Black gold has a obscure feature that recalls light, but that of the evening. In addition to the noble metal, the real protagonist of the Luz collection, Carla Amorim has used diamonds and, in a few pieces, emeralds, pearls and tanzanites. Throughout the collection is made up of 14 different jewels, presented in the different colors of gold. Giulia Netrese

The domestic jungle by Carla Amorim

There is the Brazilian flora in the new collection by Carla Amorim, a designer jewelry that reconnects to the Brasilia’s architectures  by Oscar Niemeyer and the exuberant nature of the great South American country. Leaves, plants and flowers are the source of inspiration of the 25 pieces of O meu caminho, a collection that reproduces shapes, colors and volumes of plants like tulips, monstera deliciosa (also called Adam’s rib in Portuguese), or a hanging plant with many small spheres that not coincidentally is named Rosario and the best known Heliconia among others. So, the designer proposes a walk in the garden of a house in San Paulo, in the Brasilia’s parks, in the Inhotim’s hills of the State of Minas Gerais, from where come the precious stones of the country. And that is why you are ideally walking between gold, diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, tourmalines Paraiba blue pool and tsavorites. Matilde de Bounvilles

The miracle of Carla Amorim

Sagrado, Carla Amorim signed a collection dedicated to the icons of Christianity.
Sometimes the jewelry takes other roads. Less worldly. The jewelry, in fact, not just recently have also been interpreted as a sign of belonging to a religion. The ancient Catholic Western tradition, for example, records the habit of wearing necklaces with crosses or other signs of adherence to religion. She has choosed to go down this road Carla Amorim, Brazilian designer who usually centers the collections on cheerfulness, color, with shapes rather strong.
The Carla Amorim jewelry is worn, not surprisingly, a good number of Hollywood stars. The designer was born in Brasilia, however, he decided to open a parenthesis and presents the collection Sagrado (a word that means sacred in Portuguese). The jewels reproduce not only forms such as that of the cross, but also devotional images that are part of the Catholic folk tradition, such as the heart, dove, saints. So much gold, yellow or pink, a few stones, such as diamonds blacks, some pearl. And a Baroque style, like that seen in the Portuguese churches of the seventeenth century. Lavinia Andorno

Carla Amorim in the Cerrado

The Cerrado: the new collection signed by Carla Amorim inspired by the wild nature of Brazil.
A collection dedicated to a land, a region, an expanse of plants and landscapes. The Cerrado is a vast tropical savanna ecoregion of Brazil and (occupies 22% of the whole territory): the area is characterized by a large flora and fauna biodiversity. According to the WWF, it is the most biologically rich savanna in the world. It is logical that a Brazilian which be fond of the nature is in love with the Cerrado. And so did Carla Amorim, San Paulo designer who is among the international stars of the jewelery. His new collection, in fact, it is even called Cerrado: earrings, rings, pendants and necklaces are made with gold and stones, but also have names that are inspired by the subtropical region. Waterfalls, springs, streams, rock formations and flowers are reflected in the forms of the collection. Also stand out pieces of an exceptional vivacity, as the big ring with sapphire orange, or earrings rays, they too with an orange sapphire in the middle. If you really inspired jewelry like these, you have one more reason to visit the Cerrado. Alessia Mongrando

Hot summer for Carla Amorim

A hot summer for the Brazilian brand Carla Amorim. Kelly Amorim, co-owner along with her sister, Carla, of luxury jewelry with headquarters in Sao Paulo, participated in Tuscany to a charity treasure hunt, the Art Treasure Hunt, between Siena and Florence. At the same time, the Maison debuted with the insignia of the exclusive store Moda Operandi. Kelly was in Tuscany among wine cellars with wine barrels and contemporary works of art: the hunt it also served to put up for auction, in favor of a center for Syrian refugees in Lebanon, a earrings with emeralds and diamonds for 13 carat designed by Carla Amorim, and donated for the occasion. On the online store, however, the brand follows the philosophy that connects the architecture to jewelry, with the use of four shades of gold combined with peziose stones like diamonds, but also to the moonstone, morganite, turquoise and pearls. They are jewels with a substantial presence, but at the same time they can also be worn during the day. Prices: from 1,800 to 4900 dollars for a pair of gold earrings and diamonds. Lavinia Andorno
