Other serpents for Boucheron

New jewels from the Serpent de Bohème collection signed by Boucheron ♦ ︎

After turning off the 160 birthday candles Boucheron continues to offer jewelry and high jewelry. The story continues: the French brand founded in 1858 by Frédéric Boucheron, which is now part of the Kering group, does not deny its origins. Boucheron was the first jeweler to open a shop under the arcades of the Palais Royal, the center of Parisian luxury at the time. And he was the first to introduce a certain way of understanding jewelery with his Maison. For example, with one of his most classic collections, Serpent Bohème. The motif of reptile-shaped jewels is actually even older. Serpent Bohème is a collection that is renewed periodically, with the addition of new pieces, gems, original solutions. From 2017, when a updating of the collection was proposed, for example, other innovations were introduced, such as the hair band, in rose gold and diamonds, while the gold of the ring was always worked to reproduce the skin of the snake.

On the other hand, Monsieur Boucheron liked adventure: in those days, when travel was a real dangerous, he went to the most distant places to visit the precious stone mines. Starting from the gems he then designed iconic pieces like the Point d’Interrogation necklace, an emblematic piece and an ingenious invention: it was designed without a clip, with a hidden spring system that allows the necklace to curl around the neck like a feather, presented to the public at the Universal Exhibition of Paris in 1889.

The best jewels of Cannes

The best jewels seen on the red carpet of the Festival of Cannes 2019: Messika, de Grisogono, Cartier, Bulgari, Chopard and …  ♦︎

Jewels on the red carpet, jewels worn by the stars, jewels that are worth a trip to see them: the Cannes Film Festival has always been this too. The 2019 edition does not differ from this apotheosis of diamonds, colored stones, necklaces and earrings with reflections that can be spotted from miles away. Here, then, are some first-class jewels that have aroused envy, admiration and regret (for those who could not wear them).

One of the most active and brilliant houses in Cannes is undoubtedly the Parisian Messika: at the opening ceremony the Turkish actress Dilan Deniz unveiled the extraordinary North Wind necklace from Once Upon A Time’s High Once collection, the Desert Bloom earrings from the collection Born to be wild jewelry store and Mata Hari bracelet from the Paris est une Fête fine jewelry collection. As if that weren’t enough, he showed off his iconic Roman and Glam’Azone double rings and a My Twin ring.

And Valérie Messika, founder and artistic director of the brand, also appeared with Wild Moon earrings, the Desert Bloom necklace and the bracelet from the Born to be Wild jewelry collection. Valérie Messika has also recommended to Selena Gomez the Snake Dance earrings of the new collection Born to be Wild and the Toi & Moi ring, also of high jewelery. Subsequently, the actress then presented herself with a Bulgari series.

The American actress Eva Longoria presented herself on the red carpet, instead, wearing de Grisogono jewels. In particular with the Boule earrings in yellow and white gold coated with white diamonds (1.30 ct) and brown (28.50 ct). Always for the Geneva House, the German model and actress Barbara Meier showed a pair of Vortice earrings in rose gold with white diamonds (11.60 carats) and the Chiocciolina ring in pink gold with white diamonds (2.35 carats) .

With showy Chopard earrings, the Maison that is traditionally paired with Cannes, presented Julianne Moore at the screening of the film Les Miserables. He has changed two: first made only in diamonds and then with diamonds and large emeralds. Same choice (Chopard earrings) for Elle Fanning, which is part of the jury. Alessia Ambrosio opted instead for large spiral earrings in white gold and diamonds by Boucheron. Iranian actress and songwriter Golshifteh Farahani instead shined with a diamond necklace and Cartier opals.

The connections of Boucheron

//

The Jack collection by Boucheron: it’s inspired by the connectors used by the headphones to listen to music ♦ ︎

Anyone who has used audio headphones knows them well: the jack connectors are those used, in general, to connect devices to each other. They are also one of the most enduring technologies: the jack connector was invented around 1878 for telephone exchanges. By the way: the name jack comes from the fact that the patent was registered as a “connector jackknife”, that is with the size for a pocket.

The Parisian Maison Boucheron was inspired by this jack for its new Jack collection.

After having inaugurated the renovation of the headquarters on Place Vendôme, Boucheron has thought of this collection as a very little traditional jewel. It is, in fact, a flexible gold wire that can be rotated around the wrist to become a bracelet, or worn around the neck like a necklace. Closing the ends is simple: it hides two magnets. The length also changes: it starts from a circumference that is only sufficient for a wrist and extends to a six-wire version. The jewels can be in simple gold, or with small diamonds: the six-wire version uses 90, for a total of about 1 carat. But don’t try to use them to connect your headphones … Giulia Netrese

Everything about tourmaline

All you want to know about the most fashionable stone: the tourmaline. Green, blue or red, is the gem of the moment. Here is a quick tour guide ♦

Often confused with other stones, tourmaline is characterized by a wide range of hues and shades. No coincidence that the name comes from a Sinhalese word turmali, used to indicate carnelian and stones of different colors from Sri Lanka. The main varieties of tourmaline used in jewelry is one that defines the classification of the mineral as Elbaite, which is also a synonym for green tourmalines. Much used Rubellite also, which color are from red to pink, and the rare Indicolite, from a deep blue and exceptional luster.

Features Tourmaline is a dichroic stone: each crystal, usually very long, has two colors (one dark and one light), that change as intensity depending on the angle of observation. Do you know where the tourmaline name comes from? It comes from the Sinhalese word thoramalli or tōra-molli. It is a word that is applied to a group of stones found in Sri Lanka. In fact this stone arrived in Europe with the ships of the Dutch East India Company to satisfy the demand for colored gems.

Color There are many and with different shades. The most sought stones are the Paraiba tourmalines, homonymous field in Brazil, although the name is used for gems from different backgrounds such as Mozambique and Nigeria, when they have this range of shades: Caribbean blue, peacock blue, neon blue, copper green, neon aquamarine, azure, turquoise generated by the traces of chromium. A trace element, chromium, which gives its name to a deep green stones that are found in Tanzania, although the color in this case is given by the presence of vanadium. A great blue saturation, brightness and purity is the rare tourmaline Indicolite. There are, then, the Rubellite with its shades ranging from pink to vivid red, tourmaline Watermelon or watermelon, true wonder of nature, because two-tone: the center is red, surrounded by an outer layer of green, or vice versa.

How to clean the tourmaline. The tourmaline is a fairly hard stone: it is between 7 and 7.5 degrees on the Mohs scale (the diamond is at 10). It is a hardness considered right for use in jewelry. But be careful not to leave the tourmaline too close to a source of heat for a long time: it could alter it and even break. But the stone can be safely cleaned with hot water and a drop of soap, while there are disagreements on the use of ultrasound and steam cleaners.

Source The most important deposits are in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Russia, Burma, Sri Lanka, and United States (California and Maine). Many African countries have recently become major producers of tourmaline, particularly Madagascar, Namibia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Nigeria and Malawi.

Evaluation is not a simple thing due the amount of varieties and colors. The first thing to do is to examine the stone in sunlight: a green gem under an incandescent bulb may appear almost black, while a pink or red appears gray or brown. If, even under artificial light, keeps its natural tones, is likely to be a stone with a fine color. But beware, the primary color should be predominant for 70-75%. The rest of percentage is obviously a hue, ie a secondary color which, however, may change depending on the illumination, natural or artificial. Moreover, there is no general rule on dimensions and prices: some tourmalines are found only in small sizes and are used as beads in a very low cost, while others are more available in 10 or more carats. The evaluation also takes account of its clarity, which has three degrees defined by the Gia (Gemological Institute of America, the most famous center of research and teaching mineralogy of the United States): if the green tourmaline is usually classified type I, that means, has a slight inclusion visible to the naked eye, blue, orange, yellow, multi-color (except watermelon varieties) and some pink specimens stones have minor inclusions and are grade II, while the red ones , pink and watermelon belong to the third category III where noticeable inclusions are expect ed as it appears from the photos below. Tourmaline is normally not subjected to heat treatment and if this happens does not affect its value.

Artist jewelery online with Sotheby’s

In the online jewelery auction of Sotheby’s also pieces signed by great sculptors ♦ ︎

Online jewelery auctions are a well-established habit. The big sales auctions are periodically organizing sales, and often with thematic proposals, ie centered around a specific strand. This is the case of Sotheby’s, which opens the 2019 jewelery sales season with the Jewels Online auction (8-15 March).

The auction offers also a large group of jewelry signed by well-known artists, sculptors who have reserved part of their creativity to the world of valuables.

Meccaniche, collana del 1993 di Sebastiano Balbo
Meccaniche, collana del 1993 di Sebastiano Balbo

There are jewels that range from the nineteenth century to contemporary works, as in the case of the Compression of César, the Cinetica di Facchini or the brooch sculpture by Arnaldo Pomodoro. This last sculptor signs three works of this selection, all in 18-karat gold and characterized by his style. They are a ring (estimate 1.800-2.800 euros), a pair of twins (1,000-2,000 euros) and a beautiful brooch, lit by small circular cut rubies (3,000-5,000 euros). The medal of Giorgio Facchini, created by the artist on the occasion of the seventeenth Festival dei Due Mondi di Spoleto in 1974, is one of only 140 copies produced for the event (2.500-4.500).

Inspired by the laws of mechanics is Sebastiano Balbo’s signature of 1993 Mechanics, decorated in the center with a brilliant cut diamond (5,000-7,000). The auction includes a group of five lots produced by Germano Alfonsi, enriched with animal and mythological engravings and a brooch made by Pietro Consagra, inspired by his sculptures (1,000-2,000). A geometric design characterizes the Genovese and Mariani productions of the seventies. A small work of art is the pendant Comprèssion made by Cèsar (6,000-8,000). This selection of artist’s jewelery is matched with the example of a necklace with a futuristic design in steel and glass signed by Buccellati (1.000-2.000) and the set by Pomellato.
But the auction also includes jewelry signed by traditional Maison, such as Bulgari, Cartier and Boucheron.

Pisa Diamanti, in Milan new brand and salon

//

The Pisa Diamanti brand was born in Milan, and a new showroom in Pisa Orologeria hosts six big names of high jewelery ♦ ︎

Milan is the Italian capital of fashion, design and economy. But also of jewelry. Of course, in Valenza and Vicenza they are produced. But in Milan they are sold, especially in the so-called Quadrilatero, that is the area around Via Monte Napoleone. And it is precisely here that one of the most historical stages of jewelery is located, and not only. Pisa Orologeria, in via Verri, is a destination for luxury pilgrims, both Italian and foreign, who are looking for pieces that are often extraordinary. And there they find them. Now they can choose even more, because Pisa Orologeria presents two novelties. The first is its own high-end jewelry brand, Pisa Diamanti. The second novelty, however, concerns the opening of a large second floor.

The Pisa Diamanti collection now becomes a real high-end jewelry brand, born from the desire of Maristella and Chiara Pisa to express their values and vision in a line of jewels.

Pisa Diamanti, anello eternity
Pisa Diamanti, anello eternity

The jewels that Pisa Orologeria made without transforming the offer into a brand, are now connected by a strong name. What is defined as a touch of femininity to the universe of jewelry is a collection with deliberately essential frames to enhance what makes a truly precious jewel: diamonds. The collection presented includes tennis necklaces and bracelets, solitaires, earrings and pendants light points. Classic frames, first quality stones and a lancet-shaped griffe, embellished with a setting of diamonds, are the guidelines of the Milanese brand. There are also cufflinks, chevalier rings and even gold and diamond tennis bracelets for men. “Pisa Diamanti gives continuity to the values that have always characterized us according to our tradition: sobriety, elegance, attention to detail and constant research of quality”, comments Maristella Pisa, president of Pisa Orologeria. “Pisa Diamanti is the evolution of the relationship with our female clientele, to which we have always dedicated an eye to the watchmaking world”, adds Chiara Pisa, managing director.

Diamonds and high jewelery find a place on the second floor of the flagship store.

Il secondo piano di Pisa orologeria

In addition to those of Pisa Diamanti, in the bright and velvety salon there is the best of six high-end jewelery brands. There is something for everyone: Boucheron, Chaumet, Chopard, de Grisogono, Messika and Tamara Comolli. In short, from the most classic high jewelry to the light-hearted, but always on the highest step of the podium. “It is a new point of contact with female customers, to whom we have always dedicated an eye to the watchmaking world”, continues Chiara Pisa. “A new adventure that, starting from September 2018, sees the second floor of the Flagship Store destined for the diamond universe, now renamed the Salone dei Jewels”.
The project was curated by Vittorio Carena Studio. The surface is organized with a large oval of over 100 square meters, which houses the brands, plus a satellite space dedicated to the Salotto de Grisogono. Circular desk and imperial metal cases and precious fabrics are surmounted by a glass and light installation and greeted by a large pastel-colored carpet. True luxury, but sober, very Milanese.

Boucheron true flowers

///

Boucheron flowers from the Nature Triomphante collection: extraordinary high jewelery ♦ ︎

Despite the coexistence between flowers and jewels is difficult, continuing over time, almost like the one between Beyoncé and Jay-Z. Where is the difficulty in this marriage is soon said: first of all to interpret a flower is not simple, if you want to propose something original. Secondly, a jewel that does not limit itself to making just a simple idea of the flower, meets great technical difficulties. If, then, the goal is a jewel of great quality as well as precious, only a few designers succeed.
Claire Choisne, creative director of Boucheron, has succeeded it. And during the week of haute couture she presented the new high-end jewelry collection of the Maison. The jewels of the Nature Triomphante collection are a triumph not only for the refined selection of the materials used, but also for the complicated, difficult choice of construction. For example, in some cases the rock crystal was carved from the inside to accommodate diamonds and gold. The floral rings, moreover, were made with a touch of unusual naturalism, which at first glance could make the jewel exchange for an authentic flower. Also thanks to the processing technique of titanium, which takes on color and a finish that makes them become small masterpieces. More: true flower petals are applied, without pigments or chemicals to titanium surfaces. Thus a flower becomes eternal.
To achieve this level Boucheron has carefully studied the plants: as in the case of the necklace with ivy leaves that has been reproduced, including veins, after a digital scan of the foliage of a real plant. Or Nuage de Fleurs, a necklace of small hydrangea flowers in rose gold, with mother-of-pearl in pale pink, gray and cream, with petals with diamonds similar to drops of dew. In short, a true triumph of high jewelry. Giulia Netrese

Jewels in Monte-Carlo with Artcurial

Artcurial jewels and diamonds july auction at the Hôtel Hermitage in Monte-Carlo ♦ ︎

Taste of the sea, taste of jewels. Artcurial, the French auction house, is organizing a sale of fine jewelery for 18 and 19 July, in Monte-Carlo, as befits the prestigious location. The auction will be held at the Hôtel Hermitage and involves the sale of about 800 pieces, including vintage and modern, of prestigious Maison with Harry Winston, Van Cleef & Arpels, Lalique. But also Hermès, because the sale also includes some bags of the Parisian brand and some watches, selected by the founder of Colette, Sarah Andelman, and photographed by Koto Bolofo, who set some of the most prestigious jewels in an unusual context of vegetables, mushrooms, berries.
The most precious piece is, perhaps, a rivière necklace by Harry Winston, with emeralds, diamonds, on platinum and 18-karat gold, circa 1985-1990, accompanied by a certificate of SSEF certifying the origin of Colombia of emeralds. A platinum ring of Boucheron should also arouse interest, with a diamond of over 11 carats, round cut. And always in the genre, in the catalog also appears a ring with emerald cut diamond of 7 carats, color D, good overall quality.

Jar and a pink diamond are the stars at Christie’s

A pink diamond and a ring of Jar are the stars of Christie’s Magnificent Jewels auction in New York ♦ ︎
Spring returns to pink, like peach blossoms and like the diamond that Christie’s sells at the Magnificent Jewels auction in New York on April 17th. The diamond is mounted on a platinum and rose gold ring. It is an 8.42 carat stone, intense rose fancy brilliant cut but «modified rectangular», VVS1 clarity and «potentially internally impeccable». On the sides the stone has two other baguette diamonds. The ring is valued between 4 and 6 million dollars.
But, of course, the auction has other interesting pieces of Maison such as Boucheron, Bulgari, Cartier, David Webb, Harry Winston, Tiffany & Co. in the catalog. It is not necessary to be a millionaire to participate (also online) in the purchase: prices start at 4000 dollars. Among the most popular pieces there are classic jewels, like a necklace of diamonds and emeralds by Van Cleef & Arpels (estimate up to 1.25 million dollars), or rings with big diamonds.
Two rare Jar
But there are also rare jewels and coveted by collectors, like two pieces signed Jar, designer who has fans all over the world. If you do not know him, know that Jar represents the initials of Joel Arthur Rosenthal, born in 1943 in New York in a family of modest possibilities. He graduated from Harvard in 1966, and then moved to Paris. Before joining the Olympus of jewelry, he worked as a screenwriter. She refined her skills with Bulgari in New York, and then returned to Paris where she opened a boutique in Place Vendôme with her partner, Pierre Jeannet. His rare pieces are received almost like an event. In this case, Christie’s auctioned jewels will benefit the Art for Justice Fund, which aims to reform the justice system in the United States.
Jar’s jewels at auction are, therefore, a Moghul style brooch, created in 1999, in silver and 18-karat gold. It consists of a kind of stylized dome with an amethyst pavé surrounding a 14.77 carat cushioned sapphire. The pendant has a border of diamonds and a tassel of natural pearls. Not only that: the back is a pavé of diamonds. Necklace and pendant are valued up to $ 300,000. The second piece is, apparently, more traditional: a ring. In reality, the 22.76-carat oval diamond, color D and VVS1 clarity, is suspended in a thin flush mount with a micro-pavé on platinum. In this case the maximum estimate is 3.5 million. The jewels of the year of the dog

/

The year of the dog is started, according to Chinese astrology. And you can celebrate with a jewel ♦ ︎
For the Chinese, it’s Spring festivity. But it is also the new year of the moon. A concept that Westerners did not understand well and then called the Chinese New Year holiday, assimilating it to what is celebrated on January 1st. The Chinese one, however, does not always fall on the same date: in 2018, for example, the Chinese New Year is 16 February. The date, in fact, depends on the new moon and therefore the date varies between January 21st and February 19th. Among other things, in addition to China is also a feast in Korea, Mongolia, Singapore, Malaysia, Nepal, Bhutan, Vietnam and Japan, as well as in Chinese communities around the world. With the new year, the astrological sign that according to tradition will influence the next 12 months also changes. The Chinese horoscope assigns the character of an animal each year. In order, they are Topo, Buffalo, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. For 2018, for example, is the year of the dog. And, of course, many jewelers have decided to dedicate their jewel to the this pet. Here are some. Cosimo Muzzano

Boucheron at the Tsar’s Court

Boucheron celebrates imperial Russia with a collection of jewels that would have loved by the Tsars ♦︎
Between France and Russia, before and after the October Revolution, there has always been a very close link. Escapeed aristocrats or revolutionaries in exile have found shelter in the tolerant Transalpine state, along with musicians and painters. In Russia the official language of the nobility was French, idiom used in the Tsar’s court and in the good society. The jewelery industry has also maintained a privileged channel between Paris and Moscow. Boucheron remembers it, with the Hunt Impérial jewelry collection. The luxury here walks on the soft, silent snowy surface that covers the big country, bridge between the West and the East, when the winter starts.
Boucheron, more, was the first French jeweler to open a venue in Moscow in 1897 when the tsars still reigned. Boucheron has revisited three of its main themes: Nature (the Lumiere de Nuit line describes the aesthetics of the Nordic landscape), Couture (Femmes Boréales idealizes the beauty of women’s of North), and Architecture (The Anneau d’Or is inspired by the imperial cities of Russia, Moscow and Saint-Petersburg). The pieces are extraordinary, starting with Baïkal, a necklace-corset with an oval aquamarine of 78.33 carats, woolen stones and cultured pearls, diamond paved, white gold. Other jewels, however, remind the snow crystals, or the onion domes of the Kremlin. Margherita Andorno

Serpent, but transparent, by Boucheron

New pieces for Serpent Bohème Collection by Boucheron, extension of the classic Serpent line ♦
The collections that are successful are renewed. But keep a line of jewelry created in 1888 is really a record. Yet it is what he does Boucheron: the Parisian Maison proposes a new version of its endless Serpent collection. It all started when Frédéric Boucheron, founder of the French jewelry, gave to his wife Gabrielle a necklace with a snake, animal considered auspicious and protective, before a trip abroad. It has since become a symbol of Boucheron, proposed in different ways.
Recently there was added a pink version in gold and diamonds. In May 2017, the Maison adds new pieces of the Bohème Collection, born 50 years ago as extention of Serpent. Now it includes 96 different pieces and is updated with new creations: rings paved with stones, double-headed rings and bangles, long necklaces, but also watches. The collection is renewed especially through the use of transparent colored gemstones. For diamond jewelry alongside pieces in amethyst, citrine, onyx, mother of pearl and lapis lazuli. And where’s the snake? In this collection with the teardrop shape it is represented the head of the precious reptile. Lavinia Andorno
