Bona Calvi goes to the Riviera

Bona Calvi returns to the sea or, more precisely, to the Riviera, the name of her new collection. The beach, rest, life in the open air and the little joys of relaxation are the source of inspiration for the jewels, made by the Milanese designer in bronze and colored enamel. Rings and earrings are inspired by objects such as sunglasses and popsicles, enameled in bright colors, rendered on a smaller scale, modeled to create miniatures with attention to the smallest details.

The colors combined with the bronze tone are blue, red, green and pink. The pieces of this collection are added to those, always of marine inspiration, with animals such as toucan, octopus, fish, shells. Bona Calvi studied at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, and subsequently attended the Ambrosiana Goldsmith School. It is here that she conceived in 2015 to create the first miniatures. She creates the jewels herself using the traditional technique of lost wax modelling.

How to learn to write with Bona Calvi

The first thing you learn in school are the letters of the alphabet. With a step back in time, the Milanese designer Bona Calvi has rethought those early confidences with the written word to develop Le Minuscole, a capsule collection that traces the emotion (and efforts) of translating sounds into signs written on paper. The result is the 21 letters of the Italian alphabet in lowercase printed format, formed only by straight lines and circles, just like the first words learned in class.

As it is easy to guess, the letters can be worn individually, or form acronyms, initials, words, phrases. As in school, the limit is only the writer’s imagination. Thin colored cords (blue, red and green) are used to connect the letters, but nothing prevents you from using another type of support. The letters, like the other Bona Calvi bijoux, are made of bronze.

The gentle cactus of Bona Calvi

At the beginning of the 1969 film Cactus Flower, young Toni Simmons (Goldie Hawn) attempts to commit suicide by inhaling gas from the stove. But she is saved by her neighbor and the comedy evolves into a funny crescendo of misunderstandings and love affairs. Moral: even the thorniest events can evolve and flourish, so there is hope at the bottom of every mishap. A film that Bona Calvi must have liked, enough to inspire the Cactus capsule collection. Don’t worry: jewels don’t sting.

The miniature cacti are made of bronze, with a small emerald, ruby or rose cut diamond in the center. Cactus jewelry includes rings, a bracelet and earrings. The jewels are handcrafted using the traditional lost-wax modeling technique in her laboratory in the center of Milan. After high school, Bona Calvi enrolled at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts and later at the Ambrosiana Goldsmith School in Milan. She started making jewelry in 2015.

At the sea with Bona Calvi. The young Milanese designer offers a series of rings, pendants and earrings featuring animals or elements that seem perfect for a marine atmosphere and summer beaches. For example, pendants or rings in the shape of dolphins, crabs, anchovies. Some of these subjects, all part of the world of animals, are new entries. All, however, follow the same methods of realization: micro-sculptures made by the designer, who follows all the stages of production, and ready to be transformed into small bronze, silver and, on request, gold jewels.

Bona Calvi, now in her early thirties, studied at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, and subsequently attended the Ambrosiana Goldsmith school. This is where she conceived in 2015 to create the first miniatures of her. The designer starts from a watercolor study, passing through the ancient technique of lost wax modeling, to obtain plastic shapes inspired by what surrounds us.

Anchovies, giraffes, ladybugs, whales, bears, octopuses, elephants: if you don’t like animals, you won’t even love the jewels of Bona Calvi, a goldsmith and designer, but also a sculptor and painter. In short, her jewelry was born from an all-out activity, with a very Renaissance creative method. Born in Milan about thirty years ago, Bona Calvi has neglected nothing in her professional training path. After the classical high school she enrolled at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts and, subsequently, attended the Ambrosiana Goldsmith school in Milan. In 2015 his sculptures are transformed into jewels.

According to what the designer points out, a jewel is born from a watercolor study, passes through the technique of lost wax modeling, to obtain plastic shapes inspired by what surrounds us. The zoo, in fact, or a collection of vegetables in the form of a jewel, from ginko leaves to pomegranates, micro-sculptures ready to be transformed into small jewels of bronze, silver and, on request, gold in her laboratory in via Stampa 8 in Milan.
