The Renaissance of Alessandro Dari

/

The new jewels by the Florence goldsmith Alessandro Dari, awarded at the Milan Jewelery Week ♦

Jeweler or sculptor? Artist or a goldsmith? Innovator or traditionalist? All these definitions are valid for Alessandro Dari. He describes himself as Fiorentino Master of Arts Goldsmith and Sculptor. In fact, her jewels look like fragments of cathedrals, little Romanesque reliefs, treasures unearthed in an ancient palace of the Renaissance. Where, actually operates: it is the Palazzo Nasi-Quaratesi, in Florence, where he has his atelier and message boards that enclose his collection. And where he also organized a goldsmith school.

Some works of Dari are exposed to the Silver Museum of Pitti Palace and the Museum of the Cathedral of Fiesole. His lab has received, in 2001, the title of Museum Store by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage in Rome. Wear her jewelry means to bring him a story, because his small sculptures, or architectures that make up the most elaborate pieces convey the idea of something that is to be told, enclosed within the few centimeters of metal and stones. A job that, we can say, you can hardly find in other countries outside Italy.

The Milan Jewelery Week program

The Milan Jewelery Week program with 150 designer-artists and the Artistar Jewels competition ♦ ︎

We must congratulate Prodes, a company that organizes events of different types and its founder, Enzo Carbone. In seven years Artistar Jewels, which had started as a jewelery show-competition of avant-garde designers, has turned into a kermess up to the point of standing in a Jewelery Week (24-27 October) with many events scattered around the city.
This is not a replica of fairs dedicated to high jewelry, but the event seems to be able to attract interest and creatives from half the world.

Artistar Jewels remains at the center of the program. This is a collective exhibition of artists hosted at Palazzo Bovara (Corso di Porta Venezia 51, free admission).

Artistar Jewels is a project that has grown exponentially in recent years, gathering support from both insiders and a growing number of enthusiasts. The success of Artistar Jewels has allowed us to intercept the need to give the right emphasis to contemporary jewelery, in strong expansion in recent years, creating an entire week dedicated to it: hence the idea of launching the first in Milan Jewelry Week.

In particular, the U.S. New York’s Export Assistance Center contacted the Diamond District Partnership, which organized a contest to give a New York artist the chance to attend the event with the support of this New York institution. The war of duties, in short, has not yet done damage in this sector.

It should be added that the pieces on display do not often resemble traditional jewels. The techniques used range from laser cutting to lost wax, from watermark to hand finishing, through 3D printing, increasingly widespread in this sector, as well as the use of materials, from year to year more green and the result of activities of recycling and upcycling. Also this year the works will end up in a book.

A Cosmos at sea

//

Polyps and jellyfish are the protagonists of the Cosmos collection by Peseli ♦ ︎

The collection is called Cosmos, a word of Greek origin which means order. But Marianna Marolla, founder of the Peseli brand, was born on the Greek island of Corfu. And so her new collection is not related to the universe, but to the aquatic world. The sea, on the other hand, surrounds Corfu and is populated by aquatic animals.

Jellyfish and octopus are, in fact, the subjects of the Cosmos collection.

When the jewels are worn, the tentacles studded with brilliants reproduce the movement of the waves, capture the light and its reflections and follow the movement of the body. The jewels are made of precious materials such as sapphires, corals and diamonds.
Marianna Marolla, among other things, will present the Cosmos collection at Artistar Jewels 2019, an annual project of Contemporary Jewelry that brings together artists. The event is scheduled during Milan Fashion Week and will be hosted at Palazzo Bovara, a historic location in the center of the metropolis. All the creations are also published in a volume distributed all over the world and sent to more than 5,000 international business contacts.
