Nostalgia for Portugal with Andrew Geoghegan

The Portuguese word costeira means coast (of the sea, of a lake). And, in fact, Andrew Geoghegan‘s Costeira collection is inspired by the Portuguese coast sculpted by the strong Atlantic winds, between sea and cliffs. It is a very windy area and where the wind blows, kites also fly. Perhaps this is why the mini collection (which includes only three bracelets) is made up of small elements with the shape of a kite. But another interesting aspect of the collection is that the kites form a border that fits perfectly to another bracelet, with an easy stacking system.

Andrew Geoghegan, based in Leeds (Great Britain), was Designer of the Year 2014 for the British Jewelery Association and Editor’s Choice at International Jewelery London 2015. But he began his professional life as a sculptor: his experiments with metal made it possible to understand the characteristics and potential of the base material of the jewelry. The designer combines the sculptural shape of his jewels with a passion for technical invention, with the precision of an engineer. He also has a degree in Three-dimensional Design, specialized courses, short-term apprenticeships and, in an informal note, years on the bench.

The new jewels of the British designer Andrew Geoghegan, diamonds after the amethysts ♦ ︎

Andrew Geoghegan, British designer, launches the collection – Let’s Go … Diamond, which follows Let’s Go … Amethyst. And with this proposal he entered among the finalists in the bridal jewelery category in the competition that is held every year by the Professional Jeweler Magazine. It is not the first recognition: Geoghegan has already been named Designer of the Year 2014 of the British Jewelery Association and the Editor’s Choice at the International Jewelery London 2015.

The designer founded his Maison in 1998: he uses angular facets and soft curves, warm tones and metallic coldness. These contrasts, however, are harmonious, as in the series of cocktail rings called with chocolate box irony: in fact the gems look like chocolates inside a package. Thanks also to his past as a young sculptor, an experience that allows him to create jewels with a strong three-dimensional character.

Capitals in colors

The capitals based on Paraiba tourmaline, sapphires and diamonds from Andrew Geoghegan.
In architecture, a capital has the function to act as a bridge between the column and beam. Over time, the classical capitals introduced by the ancient Greece (Doric, Ionic and Corinthian) have been imaginatively enriched and transformed, from Romanesque period onwards. This brief summary is to introduce other capitals, the ones that the British designer Andrew Geoghegan has decided to turn into jewelry. Rings for accuracy. The Chapiteau collection is inspired by Baroque architecture, that of Versailles and Louis XIV. These cocktail rings, however, point out something that is not attributable only to the forms of architecture, but above all on color suggestions. The Chapiteau de Paraiba Cocktail Ring, for example, is almost a whimsical collection of stones next to the deep blue of the tourmaline, there is a side of pink sapphires, but the faces of the capital side are with mint green tourmaline, in once framed by a waltz diamond. Certainly a jewel that you cant don’t notice. Giulia Netrese
