Splash, a interchangeable Mikimoto brooch, presented in Paris.
The king of the pearls, Mikimoto, did Splash in Paris. It is called this, in fact, an interchangeable jewel, which can be used as a brooch, or attach to a necklace: it was presented in the Place Vendôme store. The brooch, in fact, has a shape that is reminiscent as one spray of many drops of water, the one that is formed when throwing something on a liquid surface. Except that the spray in this case consist of 13 Akoya pearls carefully selected and mounted on white gold with a 3.6 carat diamonds. Considered the beads are found in water, therefore, the reference is not at all out of place. The company founder Kokichi Mikimoto, in 1893, on the island of Kashikojima, Japan, invented the technique of pearl farming. Today the Akoya pearls, South Sea or the baroque are the result of that innovation: it is a splash that has lasted for over a century. Margherita Donato
Tiffany, a brooch big as an elephant
A Tiffany initiative in defense of nature and against poaching of elephants.
A pin can be as big as an elephant? Yes, if it is one that Tiffany offers within the #KnotOnMyPlanet campaign. Objective: raising funds in support of the end of the elephant poaching and to stop global traffic and therefore the demand for ivory. As the member of the U.S. Wildlife Trafficking Alliance and as part of Tiffany’s commitment to sustainability, the campaign asks everyone not to forget the elephants at the Elephant Crisis Fund by making a donation. The campaign features some “friends of the House,” they wear, along with a node, a brooch in the shape of the elephant (to scale, though) made in yellow gold and enamel, part of Tiffany Masterpieces 2016 collection that Tiffany & Co. will donate to the cause.
The Ark of Van Cleef & Arpels
Bob Wilson salt, with an exhibition, on the Ark of Van Cleef & Arpels.
It’s called Arche de Noe (Noah’s Ark), but you could also call the Bob’s Ark (Wilson). Van Cleef & Arpels, one of the great names of high jewelry, has decided to create a collection of 60 pins in the shape of animals and to entrust the presentation at an exhibition with the staging of the great British director. You can see the jewelry in Paris, until 26 September at the Hotel d’Evreux. True to its essential style, Bob Wilson chose a minimalist staging, with a curious contrast between the boards and their contents: the environment is, in fact, a kind of big black box that represents the interior of a ship, in which they placed the box with jewelery. The broochs of the French Maison are as always a blaze of virtuosity goldsmiths, with precious stones that come to life in the animal forms. “The idea of these sixty pairs of animals Noah’s Ark born from a painting by Jan Brueghel the Elder kept at the Musée Getty in Los Angeles, called The admission of animals to Noah’s ark,” he had explained Nicolas Bos, President of the Maison. “I will never forget the shock I felt when I found myself in front of this painting”, said. Vhernier, best-selling of autumn
Vhernier with two classic lines: these are the prices of the brooch Bruco and the Pirouette rings.
Let’s face it now: there are no new pieces. But for the new season Vhernier has decided to revive the classics like the brooch Bruco and the series of Pirouette rings. We are able to show prices. The Brooch Bruco, which is available in three different sizes, has a price that starts at 6,750 euro. The Pirouette rings start at € 3,050 for the gold version rose up to 48.350 for the full pavé white diamonds. The brooch Bruco is made on a white gold basis, with a layer of black onyx or white mother pearl combined with a body made of rock crystal, where are inserted diamonds. Betting everything on the transparencies, technique used by the Maison. The Pirouette ring has long been a classic Vhernier. Its design is unmistakable: a domed volume is cut on the bias, which accompanies the shape of the fingers. In addition to the rose gold version, there is one in full pavé diamonds, white or blacks, made only with the finest stones to cut, color and clarity. The casing is practiced using two griffes: a process that requires many hours of work and allows to obtain a carpet of diamonds, exceptionally bright because virtually free of metal between a stone and the other.
Bulgari’s Roman Sorbet
The ice cream is very fashionable this year, also in jewelry: 2016, in fact, sees the arrival of those signed Bulgari. Again they do not eat: the Roman Sorbet collection is inspired, however, once again the atmosphere of the Dolce Vita of the fifties and sixties (and speaking of ice cream, dolce-sweet is perfect). In fact, the jewelry images are accompanied by a vintage photo of Gina Lollobrigida who faces an ice cream cone wearing a Bulgari necklace. The new pieces are part of the Bulgari-Bulgari collection. Roman Sorbet also includes diamond candy, popsicles and ice cream cone that have pins made of precious stones. Not only are part of the series also in white and pink gold rings, pendants, bracelets are embellished with sapphires, amethysts and tsavorites.
Vhernier camouflage
Change to remain unseen: is the specialty of the chameleon, which changes its appearance adapting to the surrounding to environment. A specialty that is now overturned by Vhernier, a brand that is not afraid to challenge the goldsmith tradition and has a very innovative design. This brooch chameleon no exception. It’s a great little sculpture, you see, you notice, is perceived. But, in reverse to chameleon, it has bright colors instead of going unnoticed. From a technical point of view, it is also an example of transparencies, a quality for which the brand is known: an effect achieved by the overlapping of natural stone, which gives life to colors and play of light that do not exist in nature. In this case the base is in white gold, with a thin layer of sugilite. All this is coupled with a body made of rock crystal worked with meticulous skill by artisans who recreate, on the stone, the animal’s scales. To head an opal harlequin, and to eye black jade. Again: the tail, pavé diamonds, is a demonstration of the two-headed embedding technique made with the finest diamonds in the world to cut, color and clarity. This pin extends the Animalier line by Vhernier, which you can see on this page. The price is proportionate to the quality of the jewel: 46,200 Euros.
The Vhernier spring
The colors of spring Vhernier are those decreed by Pantone: rose quartz and pale blue, to which is added the peach tones. The shades are opaque stones are combined with pavé diamonds. The style is always to Vhernier, with clean lines, sometimes unsettling. As with Eclisse earrings, one of the most famous jewels of Vhernier, that with new colors adds a geometric suspense, now in version in white gold, diamonds, eosite and white mother of pearl or white gold, diamonds, white mother of pearl and Rhodonite. Same goes for earrings Palloncino in white gold, diamonds, turquoise and rock crystal, and for Fuseau ring in white gold, diamonds, siderite and blue topaz. Prices: Eclisse earrings in white gold, diamonds, eosite and white mother of pearl € 15,350, Eclisse earrings in white gold, diamonds, Rhodonite and white mother of pearl15,350, Balloon earring in white gold, diamonds, turquoise and rock crystal from 3,850, Fuseau ring in white gold, diamonds, blue topaz and siderite 33,800. She calls them niche jewelry: Miriam Vile, Swiss jewelry designer belongs to that small (very small) group of professionals that seeks to look at the world with different eyes. The result is that the jewelry of Miriam Vile are fun, because they mix the semantic layers or, to put it more simply, they surprise with the use of spurious elements to the common jewelery. Knobs, wheels, gears: anything valuable from the point of view of materials, but alienating if transported on rings, necklaces or bracelets. A little ‘theatrical style. Not by chance she calls herself “jewel maker and performer.” Before designing jewelry she has attended school Sta textile design in Lugano. In 2012 he launched the first collection, “driven by my passion for music and the idea that any object used is the testimony of a story.” The jewelry are handmade, unique pieces, and if you watching them is easy to believe: mechanical parts are made of the instruments used, recycled fragments that characterize each piece unique. And in case you’re curious to know Miriam, you can also watch when she dance in the musical project Camilla Sparksss. Margherita Donato
5 pieces of legendary by Graff
Autumn 2015 was an opportunity for Graff to a catwalk in Paris for his collection of jewelry for statement: weddings, engagements, anniversaries. But for people who can afford masterpieces of fine jewelry. Pieces are to be admired for their beauty and the quality of the gems used. As in the case of the original Royal Star of Paris, which was made using two diamonds of over 100 carats each: the Sunflower Graff (107.46 fancy yellow cushion-cut) and Graff Perfection (100-carat, D flawless, cutting pear). Laurence Graff, founder and chairman of Graff Diamonds, at the time of the presentation said it is to see two high quality diamonds of at least 100 carats each on the same jewel is “unprecedented.” He’s right. Another highlight of the line, which we show in this page, is the Collier Bleu de Reve, a necklace really dream, with a diamond briolette cut fancy vivid blue internally flawless 10.47 carat, according to Graff is “one of the rarest and finest blue diamonds in the world”. And more, the diamond is accompanied by a Colombian emerald of 22.04 carats. The jewel is designed so that the central element can be detached and worn alone as a brooch. What more do you want? Chao Chao, Cindy
There is a date on which Cindy Chao has become a myth: 2004 year. In that year the designer of Taiwan has established her brand. She has set up her jewelry, 36 pieces a year, not one more, not one less. Her capability also comes from her family experience: his father was a sculptor who passed on the passion and the feeling for composition. The mother, a businesswoman, has instead donated to be capability of stay on market. After attending the Gemological Institute of America in New York, Cindy is back on the island and founded Asian Cindy Chao, The Art of jewel. He has forged ahead: in 2007, became the first Taiwanese jewelry designers to participate in a Christie’s auction in New York. Her jewels are mostly unique pieces. There are jewels that required two years of work, with a slow and meticulous process that starts from the design, the mold with wax, to end with the finishing touches. One of his works, a butterfly made up of 2,328 precious stones, is exhibited at the Smithsonian Museum (https://gioiellis.com/la-farfalla-di-2-328-gemme/). Her jewels are also sculptures, often made with the demanding use of titanium. Needless to add that jewels cost a lot. But she has also designed a series, White Label, which she defines as jewelry for every day, with limited edition pieces that start at 15 thousand dollars. Matilde de Bounvilles
Picchiotti emerald colour
As we reported, Picchiotti, a leading brand of jewelery of Valenza, has focused on Hong Kong to present some of the most valuable pieces of its production (https://gioiellis.com/hong-kong-capitale-del-gioiello). As seen in the pictures, among the collections offered to Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair 2015 by the Piedmont firm showed three pieces of high level: a pair of earrings, a ring and a brooch made of emerald cut white diamonds and drop, mounted white gold. The brooch has the shape of a peacock, not infront view, but three-quarter view. The ridge is composed of fancy yellow diamonds. Matilde de Bounvilles
Chanel under the sign of Leo
Chanel lion’s roar never ends. Launched in 2012, the collection of fine jewelry Sous le signe du Lion is renewed in the classical style and aggressive shape. The collection recalls with nostalgia, the love of the founder of the fashion house, Coco Chanel, to Venice, the city in which she lived after the death of the beloved Boy Capel and where the jewels were presented at launch. Originally, the collection consisted of 58 pieces of fine jewelry. Another coincidence: the creative French was actually born under the zodiac sign of Leo. And the fashion designer has interpreted the image of the king of the forest as a symbol of strength, and also as a sign of his fate. So the lion continued to play an important part in the symbolic language of Coco. Who now lives more sparkling than ever. Here are pictures of the new pieces of the series. Matilde de Bounvilles
In Moscow 280 brooches by Van Cleef & Arpels
Over 280 brooches by Van Cleef and Arpels in a major exhibition. Unfortunately (for those who do not live there) the exhibition is organized in Moscow. The private collection, created between 1910 and 1970, will be on display in the two boutiques of the Maison until 30 September 2015. It also includes jewelry that are known for their beauty. But if you do not go to the capital of Russia, here’s a bit ‘of images with which you can referrer eyes: between the jewels is a brooch that belonged to Maria Callas. But really the jewels with a fascinating history behind it are several. Here for you a selection of pieces of the exhibition in Moscow. Federico Graglia
Christie’s is selling the imperial brooch
Great, super, amazing: there are many adjectives you can use to announce the Christie’s auction to be held on May 13 in Geneva. The Magnificent Jewels sale will be an extraordinary occasion (here’s another adjective, I can not help it). The most unusual piece is the historic Maria Christina Royal Devant‐de‐Corsage brooch, wedding gift to his wife of King Alfonso XII of Spain in November 1879. As reported by Wikipedia (we copy from online encyclopedia) «Maria Cristina of Austria (Maria Christina Désirée Henriette Felicitas Rainiera; Brno, July 21, 1858 – Madrid, February 6, 1929) was the imperial princess, Archduchess of Austria, Princess Royal of Hungary and Bohemia and Queen consort of Spain. She was regent of Spain for the infant son Alfonso XIII of Spain until the son adulthood (1885-1902).” She was a character in the foreground. The large brooch has an elaborate design composed of dozens of diamonds with different cut: round, squared, cushion, a piece truly exceptional. Among the jewels linked to celebrity, you can also mention the earrings with rubies and diamonds from Van Cleef & Arpels belonged to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis: are estimated 250-350mila dollars.
More generally, the auction will present over 351 jewels and stones, among important colorless diamonds and colored. Like a diamond classified as D Flawless cut pear-shaped 55.52 carat of (estimate: 8.5000000 to 10.5000000 dollars), a pink diamond Fancy Vivid 5.18 carat rectangular cut (estimate: 9,5- $ 12.5 million) and a diamond ring Flawless Ashoka-cut 21.75 carat classified as D (estimate: 2.8000000 to 3.5000000 dollars). Among the gems is also The Pride of Burma, a Burmese ruby and diamond ring. The ruby is cut in the shape of cushion, has 6.25 carats (estimate: 1.8000000 to 2.5000000 dollars). Among the jewels, Royal Emeralds of India: a pair of ancient Indian bracelets with emeralds (estimate: 1.5000000 to 2,000,000 dollars), and a sapphire Kashmir with cushion cut of 35.09 carats (estimate: 3- $ 4.2 million). Christie’s goal is to reach a total of $ 80 million. Federico Graglia
Intervista a Bos (Van Cleef & Arpels)
A toast with Veronica Caffarelli
Jewels drink, or almost: are those of Veronica Caffarelli, who has designed a capsule collection dedicated to the colors of the wine. If you like to drink a good glass of red, or if you go in the campaign, wear these bjoux might be an idea. The collection consists of three elements: the brooch Impronta, the ring Decanter and the pendant Traccia. The color is, of course, that of wine. The brooch is the result of the interpretation of an imprint left by the decanter (the crystal bottle used for full bodied red wine) on the tablecloth. The pendant interprets the traces of the decanter. The brooch Impronta, the ring Decanter and the pendant Traccia are made with 925 silver, made with the technique of lost wax casting and machining banquet. The color is given by the Japanese lacquer cashow. Veronica Caffarelli prefers a mix of styles and materials, with a fusion philosophy: the cultures of Europe, Latin America and Asia are mixed. In this case, even in the glass.

Lavinia Andorno
Solved the mystery of Agatha Christie jewels
For Agatha Christie also her jewels are a mystery.
