Tiny pieces of micromosaic in glassy paste, combined with precious stones and gold. It looks like an alchemic formula and, basically, it is. The tradition of mosaic, and then of micromosaic, is ancient. But it requires considerable manual skill, which only those with long experience can understand and translate into work. Even more so when it comes to jewels, such as those proposed by Sicis, a company based in Ravenna, a city that preserves wonderful Byzantine mosaics in its churches.

The new collection that uses the micromosaic technique is called Etoile and, it could not be otherwise, reproduces five-pointed gold stars, elaborated in the colors and shades of blue and black. The tiles, infinitely small, are enameled, hand-made by art masters who combine them one by one together with precious stones. In New York, at the Saks warehouses on Fifth Avenue (prestigious location for the jewelry department), Tomasz Donocik made his debut. He is one of the most popular designers. Born in Poland, he graduated in design at the Royal College of Art in London, where he now lives and works. Before creating his Maison he collaborated with brands such as Lvmh, De Beers, Garrard and Stephen Webster. In short, it has a substantial experience behind it. His style could be called electrical and cosmological. It is no coincidence that the most famous collections of Donocik are Electric Night and Stellar.

Speaking of necklaces: in GemGèneve Ming showed a truly exceptional one, which reproduces a wisteria plant: white gold, diamonds, sapphires.

Ming learned about gems in Jaipur, India, where she was an apprentice of a local goldsmith, but also studied jewelry design at London’s Sir John Cass college, diamond appraisal at the Gemmological Association of London, and colored stones and pearls at Gia in the United States. She began her activity as a designer in 1998 and opened her atelier in Notting Hill, London, in 2007, specifically creating custom-made jewelry.

In addition, her birth in Asia led her to create jewelry by merging her Chinese roots with her British education and European craftsmanship. The Wisteria necklace is an example of this fusion. But she is also attracted by the delicate Japanese minimalism, as evidenced by the two collections, Oriental Garden and Reverence for Nature, both inspired by the Far East. Each collection consists of 15 unique pieces, all imbued with Ming’s aesthetics.

Italian jewelery in one of the shopping temples of Paris: Printemps. The group’s main store, along the Haussmann boulevard, in the 9th arrondissement, now houses a sales point for Pasquale Bruni, the historic Maison of the jewelry of Valenza.
Printemps is a historic place in Paris: the department stores were founded in 1865 by Jules Jaluzot and Jean-Alfred Duclos and are located at the intersection of Boulevard Haussmann and the Rue du Havre. On the façade the figures of the four seasons are carved and inside you can admire the art deco dome made in 1923 by the master glassmaker Brière.

In short, a suitable place to present, among other things, one of Pasquale Bruni’s latest collections: Joli, inspired by the moon. Indigo blue fruit of lapis lazuli and agate, mother of pearl with white agate, pink chalcedony, are the stones used to recreate the atmosphere of the moon, transmigrated in the shape of the flower that is the symbol of the Maison. The flowers are made of rose gold, on which a pavé of diamonds is applied, which in some cases replaces the surface of the stones.

Picchiotti’s great jewelry is back in style with the Essentially Color collection. It is a line of jewels composed of unique pieces, with precious stones of particular value and visual impact. Precisely for this reason the series of jewels presented in Baselworld in 2019 is different from the one that successfully debuted in 2018. It is, in fact, a collection of superb jewels, with high quality precious stones but, as the name of the series indicates, they are pieces that share color.

For example, a rare unheated spinel, a deep pink rubellite, colored tourmalines, tanzanite and an extraordinarily large oval kunzite of 53.41 carats, a pair of exceptional Paraiba.

The new pieces from the Giovanni Ferraris Fragranze collection: pavé of stones, colors, pink gold ♦

Too bad it is useless to smell the jewels. Rings, necklaces, earrings and bracelets are neutral to the sense of smell, even if they represent flowers or fruit. Perhaps an exception is the Fragranze collection by Giovanni Ferraris. Actually don’t expect to hear anything if you bring your nose close to jewels. But the name and the colors of the stones, as well as the shape reminiscent of wild berries, can stimulate your imagination. In short, perhaps they do not really smell, but the mind could evoke spring essences, of flowery meadow, of harvest. In a nutshell, fantasy can gallop freely.

Presented in Baselworld in 2018, the collection has been enriched with pieces and variations on the theme over the months. Now it includes smaller rings, entirely covered with fancy cut rose cut diamonds in various colors: black, blue, yellow, brown, white. Amber tones of head diamonds, combined with milky diamonds, for a diffused and warm light effect.
