Ortaea is a brand founded in London that combines the Latin word Ortus which means origin, new beginnings and ancestry, and the name Gea, the goddess of the Earth and of Creation in Greek mythology. The idea is by Mita Vohra, who launched the jewelry brand in 2016. One of the latest collections is called Jardin and presents jewels with shapes inspired by flowers and plants.

The founder of Ortaea is the director of Sarova Hotels Kenya, and she sits on the boards of various property development companies and is a Trustee of the Sandy Vohra Foundation. And so, she has maintained a special contact with Africa. Also for this reason, perhaps, she has launched new jewels with rubies from Mozambique, Vivid Red or Pigeon: they are less common stones and therefore more expensive. The jewels of the Jardin collection mainly use rose gold, but some pieces are made of black rhodium-plated gold. Rings and earrings have the shape of flowers, with dense corollas of petals in which diamonds sprout. The jewels have generous dimensions, perhaps in homage to the exuberant flora of the African forests.

Van Cleef & Arpels also is blooming in spring. Or rather, it flourishes again. Because the Folie des Prés fine jewelry collection has been a classic for years now. But, just like in spring, new colors bloom in the collection. This year, for example, the Maison in Paris has launched a collection of spectacular jewels centered on equally spectacular rubies.
So in the Folie des Prés collection here are a pair of earrings with rubies paired with rose gold and diamonds. The stones have different cuts, which are used to compose the flower petals.

But it is not the only novelty. The collection also includes a watch-bracelet with a 23 mm white gold case, trimmed with round diamonds. The bezel is in white gold with round and marquise-cut diamonds, round pink sapphires and teardrop mauve sapphires, while the dial is in white mother-of-pearl. Also, in this case, the stones are used to compose elegant colored flowers, thanks to round pink marquise sapphires and mauve teardrop sapphires. The clasp is in white gold. Red colour celebrates the new high jewelery collection by Van Cleef & Arpels, Treasure of Rubies ♦ ︎

Van Cleef & Arpels in red. It is the color that distinguishes the Treasure of Rubies fine jewelry collection, a new large line of 60 jewels that follows that of Emeraude en Majest in 2016, and continues the research of Pierres de Caractère, that is of special gems. In all, red stones were used for 3,000 carats that come from Tanzania, Madagascar, Mozambique, Burma. Only in this way the Parisian Maison has managed to compose this collection that in many ways resembles the great art deco jewels of the thirties, such as the famous peony brooches, or the famous ballerinas by Van Cleef & Arpels.

As always, for the Treasure of Rubies collection the Maison used the serti mystérieux, the technique invented by Van Cleef that allows you to juxtapose the stones without seeing a metal frame.

Queen of the collection is perhaps Flaming Ruby, a necklace that uses a rare ruby of over 25 carats cut into a cushion, to highlight the quality of the stone. Among other things, ruby has been one of the favorite stones since the foundation of the jewelery brand, thanks to the many trips of the Arpels brothers in India and the Far East in search of precious red gems. The rubies of the Treasure of Rubies collection are used in the Van Cleef style, with flowers, ribbons and oriental motifs composed with the combination of diamonds, on pink or white gold. She comes from Africa and to Africa she dedicates one of her most valuable collections. The collection by Vania Leles is called Out of Africa and is entirely dedicated to the beauty of Mozambique rubies. Red, deep, lively: Mozambique rubies are among the most sought after in the world. But she, who is native to Guinea-Bissau, uses only local gems extracted with responsible and ethical processes, even to help miners and their community, explains VanLeles Diamonds founder. Vania Leles, who works in London, is a former model, and has among its goals to enhance the African and Portuguese cultural heritage.
Although his cultural formation is rather international: she has worked in New York, London and Paris, studying at the American Gemological Institute (Gia). She practiced in jewelery worship places: Graff Diamonds, De Beers and the Sotheby Jewelry Department. She even created jewels for the British Royal House, in particular for the Duchess of Windsor, and supervised auctions of highly valuable stones, such as the famous Graff Pink. It is not strange, therefore, that she has developed an experience and refined the eye in evaluating the stones, as seen in the Out of Africa collection. Sarah Ho comes back to China and presents a ruby collection with Kimberlite ♦ ︎
From China with love, and return. Sarah Ho was born in Hong Kong, grew up in Macau and moved to London, where he became one of the trendiest and most innovative designers. Now, however, she returned to China, in Beijing, to present 12 jewels made with Kimberlite Diamonds, the Harmony collection. In Baselworld it was been anticipating the project, now completed. The collection is inspired by the red color, which in the East is considered lucky.
The jewels are then made with the use of large, lively rubies, next to diamonds: the stones form the peony flower, another symbol in China. But not only: Kimberlite emphasizes how this collection is also in perfect accord with Taoism, the Chinese philosophy that bases the balance of the world through the concepts of yin and yang. In this case, represented by the relationship between the different stones and jewelery volumes, which have a sufficiently elaborate look for the oriental taste.
