London back to expose the treasure Cheapside, considered the largest and finest collection of jewelry in the world of the Elizabethan period. You can admire the antique jewelry pieces at the Museum of London, from 11 October. The treasure Cheapside has a curious history. The jewels were discovered by chance by workers in a cellar where they were hidden for 101 years near the Cathedral of St. Paul. Some pieces have already been shown to the public on several occasions, but this is the first time that the entire collection of 500 pieces is placed on display. Among the most notable are a brooch with cabochon emerald and yellow gold in the form of a salamander and a clock mounted in a single large emerald green translucent enamel dial. Again, an oval gem engraved with the coat of arms of William Howard, first and only Viscount Stafford (1612-1680). This jewelry and other clues led the researchers to conclude that the treasures were buried between 1640 and 1666. “The treasure Cheapside has been shrouded in mystery, with questions that have remained unanswered for too long,” said Hazel Forsyth, curator of the exhibition. The name, Cheapside, was one of the main shopping street in London in the 17th century. And they were many jewelers who worked in that way. The exhibition will be open until 27 April 2014. Sponsor is the House of Fabergé group Gemfields.
