C&rsquo;\u00e9tait une femme cr\u00e9ative avec une vie aventureuse: n\u00e9e en Bulgarie, elle a d\u00e9m\u00e9nag\u00e9 avec sa famille \u00e0 Budapest en 1933, o\u00f9 elle a re\u00e7u une \u00e9ducation aristocratique. Mais apr\u00e8s la Seconde Guerre mondiale, la famille s&rsquo;est r\u00e9fugi\u00e9e en Suisse, puis en Roumanie et en Argentine. En Am\u00e9rique du Sud, Sonia a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 cr\u00e9er ses bijoux. Ils \u00e9taient au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es cinquante. Pendant les ann\u00e9es de la Dolce Vita, Sonia Petroff a d\u00e9m\u00e9nag\u00e9 \u00e0 Rome, o\u00f9 elle a travaill\u00e9 comme designer pour Nina Ricci, Balmain et Valentino. L\u2019impact des bijoux, issus du travail de Sonia Petroff, est remarquable. La couleur or jaune ainsi que les grosses pierres pr\u00e9cieuses utilis\u00e9es sugg\u00e8rent des bijoux th\u00e9\u00e2traux que l\u2019on peut \u00e9galement voir de loin. Ce sont de grosses broches en forme de homard, des boucles d&rsquo;oreilles voyantes, voire des ceintures qui font un bond dans les ann\u00e9es cinquante.
