This has favored the sale of jewelery and jewelers will now have to replenish their stocks.” In the opinion of the fund’s analysts, the entire production chain of diamonds and other precious stones will benefit. «For China, another important market, December was a period of stability as the peak in sales is mainly recorded in January and early February (coinciding with the Chinese New Year) and traders have already stocked up». Again according to Divine Jewels, in the analysis of December 20, Rapaport reports the greater optimism of the Chinese for 2013 compared to 2012. The expected improvement in the economy bodes well for purchases in the first quarter. «In the end-of-year auctions, the one sold by Christie’s in Hong Kong (27 November) and the one by Sotheby’s in New York (5 December) gave results above expectations. In fact, before the sale, there was a certain disquiet among Christie’s specialists due to the lower dynamism of the Asian market compared to spring 2012. The auction was, however, a success, with 80% of lots sold for 82% of the value estimated, for a total of USD 75 million. All categories (colored stones, D IF diamonds and designer jewelry) performed excellently. Note the price of $92,400/carat sold for a pair of pear-cut emeralds called «The Grand Muzos» of 23.34 and 23.18 carats respectively (lot 1898): an exceptional figure for emeralds of this size. A week later, in New York, Sotheby’s put up for sale some marvels that belonged to Charles Wrightsman’s wife, and in particular an antique diamond knot brooch from 1850, which belonged to the Grand Duchess Vladimir of Russia and then to the Duchess of Kent (lot 380 ). With an estimated value of between $200,000 and $300,000, it sold for $842,500. Another brooch set with an extraordinary black natural button pearl (lot 379), with an estimated value of between 400,000 and 600,000 dollars, reached the price of 1 million 874 500″.

The Sotheby’s sale, the report continues, brought in a total of 49 million 223 thousand dollars, a substantially similar result to that obtained by Christie’s New York in October (49 million 993 thousand dollars). «In this period, we carried out confidential negotiations for the purchase of a magnificent rectangular diamond of 5.80 carats, D color and pure (the best), mounted on a Van Cleef & Arpels ring and sold in Geneva in 1979. We managed to get it for 70,000 dollars/carat, a decidedly attractive price, considering that a diamond with similar characteristics was sold at Christie’s on December 10th for around 76,000 dollars/carat. This enchanting ring is accompanied by a pair of Van Cleef & Arpels earrings in emeralds and diamonds from 1968, purchased for 25 thousand dollars. Extremely classic in style, the earrings maintain all their timeliness and elegance intact, like all the creations of that era by the great jeweler of Place Vendôme.” The conclusions of the fund for jewelery (and risk) lovers conclude in a triumphal way: «The first year of life of Divine Jewels thus ends under the banner of a healthy expansion, marked by several purchases in the main categories of diamonds, stones colorful and jewels.”

There are those who invest a few thousand euros in a jewel.
