Which would be Renato Angiolillo, wealthy founder of the Roman newspaper “il Tempo”, who passed away in 1973. The large diamond would, in short, be the same one owned by Maria Girani Angiolillo, Renato’s widow. She is a famous woman: for years she has hosted powerful and aspiring people for dinner in her Roman living room in Trinità dei Monti. Two prosecutors, i.e. magistrates who conduct the investigations, were and are on the trail of the inheritance of the rich lady, who disappeared three years ago. At the time of Maria Angiolillo’s death, in fact, there was no longer any trace of her jewels. The story is intricate: the super diamond was purchased by Angiolillo before he married Maria Girani. The senator’s children from his first marriage now claim that part of the inheritance, which his second wife has always refused to return. But how did this precious stone get to Christie’s? The auction house would have purchased it from Maria Angiolillo’s son from her first marriage, Marco Oreste Bianchi Milella. The sale at Christie’s would have brought in around twenty million. In short, with a discount, but not a bad profit. For this reason, the heirs have now presented a formal notice to the auction house, which is expected to sell the disputed diamond in New York (Tuesday 16 April).

The scoop comes from the weekly «IoDonna»: at the next Christie’s auction there is also a disputed super diamond in the catalogue.
