The new Christie’s auction held in London was a half success. In fact, 75% of the jewels sold were sold compared to those offered to the public. In all, 328 lots out of 438 on offer were sold, for a total value of 18 million euros. There was one particularly valuable piece, however: a brooch with a 14-carat sapphire from Kashmir and diamonds, dated 1890, sold for 1.7 million euros, more than double the initial estimate, with a valuation of around 125 thousand euros per carat for the diamonds. A late 19th-century pendant, with a 41-carat Burmese sapphire and diamonds, also enjoyed good success, selling for 1.3 million euros. A diamond set from Mouawad fetched a price of 1 million euros. In decreasing order of value, a diamond necklace with pearls and a pear-shaped diamond pendant, of particular quality, was sold for 700 thousand euros. Also noteworthy is a parure of emeralds and diamonds sold for 580 thousand euros. There is never a shortage of buyers for fine jewelry.
