Among the most important pieces at the auction stands a Cartier London diadem, studded with 70 carats of aquamarines: it is considered the top lot of the auction. Dating back to the 1930s, the diadem is therefore a classic creation of the art deco period, given that the aquamarines were very popular at the time. The tiara can also be worn as a necklace. The estimate of this high quality jewel is between 34,000 and 70,000 euros.

Always Cartier is present with the Panthère series, animal symbol of the French jeweler. Collectors from all over the world appreciate this design. Actresses, duchesses and princesses have been fascinated by the Panther motif. At auction, therefore, many pieces of this series are offered: pendants, necklaces, pendant earrings and bracelets, all with the unmistakable panther. Estimates start from € 6,500 for a bracelet, up to € 30,000 for a necklace. The proposed estimates have often been exceeded in the latest Dorotheum auctions.

It is worth mentioning the story of the Cartier panther.
The first appearance of the Cartier panther is from 1914 on an advertising poster by the French painter and illustrator George Barbier. Shortly afterwards Jeanne Toussaint, who became the director of the bags and accessories department, and in 1933 the artistic director of the Parisian house’s jewelry sector, began the panther era. The creations with the noble predator symbolized self-awareness, elegance and independence, reasons why Jeanne Toussaint could identify herself as the Coco Chanel of the art of jewelry. She herself, Jeanne Toussaint, was nicknamed by Luis Cartier with the name of “panther”. Jeanne worked for the French jeweler until 1970 and her panther is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for the new Cartier collections to date.

At the auction of Dorotheum tiara and brooch of Maria Valeria, Archduchess of Austria ♦ ︎

The charm of ancient nobility is often present in jewelery auctions. Dorotheum knows it well, and in Vienna on November 27 it will sell a diadem and brooch of Maria Valeria, daughter of the Empress Elisabeth. Maria Valeria was the favorite daughter of Elizabeth Amalia Eugenia of Wittelsbach, Duchess of Bavaria who, with her marriage to Francis Joseph, became empress of Austria, apostolic queen of Hungary, queen of Bohemia and Croatia.

The two precious jewels owned by Maria Valeria are a diadem set with 15 oriental pearls and 25 carat diamonds, and an equally magnificent brooch, so-called corsage: two pieces that amaze not only with their diamonds, but also for the numerous and very rare oriental pearls, then fashionable all over Europe, symbol of beauty, power and influence. The two jewels are considered to be in excellent condition. The estimate ranges from 100,000 to 200,000 euros (for the diadem) and from 60,000 to 100,000 euros (for the brooch).

In 1890, when Archduchess Maria Valeria married Archduke Francesco Salvatore of Austria-Tuscany, jeweler A. E. Köchert was a third-generation court and Imperial-Royal Chamber supplier. It was he who executed the brooch around 1890. It was Wilhelm Friedrich Haarstrick, until 1891 authorized signatory and head of the atelier, who designed the diadem.

Freywille gives enamel to Monet and Klimt

Monet and Klimt together in Vienna. On jewels with enamel and gold plated by Freywille ♦ ︎
In Vienna the jewel is also synonymous with enamel. Freywille, founded in 1951 by artist Michaela Frey, has become a jewelery that is now part of the tradition and has created a style. Its gold-plated jewels and, above all, decorated with brightly colored enamels are unmistakable. Now Freywille is expanding its offer with Helena pendants. Of course, the pendants are inspired by the work of famous painters.
The choice is the result of the marriage born in the 1970s between Michaela Frey, who wanted to focus on the creative part, and Friedrich Wille, who managed the company and internationalized the brand. After the death of Michaela Frey in 1980, Wille became the owner of the company and asked another artist, Simone Grünberger (then Grünberger-Wille) to create a new line of jewelery. Graduated in Design at the Applied Arts University, Grünberger-Wille developed the enamel technique. Among her choices is also to dedicate jewels to the work of other painters. And here are bracelets, rings and pendants that evoke the traits of Monet, Klimt or Alphonse-Mucha. Prices: pendants, which can also be purchased online, cost 485 euros, bracelets 835 euros. Those who are fortunate enough to own jewelry Buccellati knows that the gift she has received or the purchase she has made is not only a luxury accessory, beautiful to wear, but also an investment. If in the future you wanted to sell the jewel, you probably would get a higher price than the purchase price. It’s what the Dorotheum auction will showing to in Vienna on 19 October. Among the many jewels on sale stands a good number of pieces signed by the Maison of Milan founded in 1919, which is now owned by the Chinese group Gangsu Gangtai Holding. But style and workmanship have not changed. Buccellati is a famous brand, well-liked from time by several aristocratic families (and even in the Vatican). That is why some of the jewels for sale from Dorotheum come from the heritage of ancient noble families. For example, a diamond bracelet for 17 carats in the 1920s (estimated value: 14-20 thousand euros). But next to the jewelry of Buccellati, the auction also has a good number of valuable pieces, especially with diamonds. The top is a ring with an emerald cut of 6.21 carats (estimate: 130-190 thousand euros), but the focus is also on a Francy Intense Yellow diamond of 4.66 carats mounted on diamond clips of about 4 carats.
