The West in Lisa Eisner’s eyes

Cheyenne. New York. Paris. Los Angeles. Former Vogue editor. Fashion expert. Rodeo photographer. Book publisher with Greybull Press. And finally, jewelry designers. Lisa Eisner, who lives and works in the city of California, describes herself in these words. Despite many passions, multiple activities and even more numerous projects, the designer launched her first handmade jewelry collection in 2014. And she continued. She loves a certain western atmosphere: the turquoise also are liked by Native Americans, ancient minerals set in bronze or gold. From Wyoming, where she was born, she uses black jade. And even (more rarely), she inserted painted feathers into the jewelry.

Since, with her husband, 30 years ago she moved to Los Angeles, a step away from Hollywood, to inspire her on how to design her jewels was a movie myth: Tony Duquette, costume designer, set designer and also an eclectic jewelry designer . Her pieces are large, original, with a vintage air and a little wild at the same time. Exactly what is expected of her.

Do you know who Calamity Jane was? She was an exuberant woman active in the late nineteenth century in the Far West. Perhaps she would have liked the Arizona jewelry collection by PdPaola, a brand created in 2014 in Barcelona by Paola Sasplugas and her brother Humbert with an investment of 200 euros. Today her minimalist jewels have conquered first the Spanish millennials and then those of many other countries and, of course, the business has also taken off. Among the unusual proposals of PdPaola there is also this Arizona collection inspired by the world of the Far West, cowboys and cowgirls, rodeo and duels seen in many films.

The collection, therefore, includes pendants in the shape of icons of the West, such as cacti, dice, colt or horseshoes. The charms are functional for earrings, to be worn in pairs or individually, for bracelets and necklaces made of rolo link chain. All the jewels are in 925 silver with an 18-karat yellow gold plating, with the addition of cubic zirconia crystals.

Exceptional diamonds and jewels transported to the wild West: it’s the Born to Be Wild collection by Messika ♦

So far, Born to Be Wild has been the title of a historical song by Steppenwolf, also well known for being part of the soundtrack of the movie Easy Rider. But from now on, however, Born to Be Wild will also be associated with fine jewelry. And, with an unusual link, a high jewelery sported in the American Wild West.

The queen of diamonds, Messika, has decided to call in this way her impressive collection, presented at Baselworld 2019 in a themed installation.

So much so that a photo shoot sets the exceptional collection in the spaces usually reserved (in the movies) for incursions of native Indians, galloping cowboys, runaway bandits and so on. The collection is very wide and includes different lines, such as Snake Dance, Black Hawk, Diamond Catcher, Shaman Shield, Sun Tribe, Wild Moon.

Curiously, it seems that these super jewels are at ease in the midst of natural spaces, strong colors and wild nature. It is a similar, but opposite, contrast to what one feels when an element of nature, for example a ferocious animal, is transported to a civilized environment.

I like to travel, I wanted to instill a state of mind that alludes to feeling of escape. Between fantasy and imagination, the desert acts upon mankind like a great revealer, living up to and surpassing itself.
