Like every December, Pantone, the American company specializing in the color business, announces (its) shade of the year. For 2023 Pantone has announced its choice, called Viva Magenta! The description is: “A new animated red hue that revels in pure unapologetic joy, encouraging experimentation and self-expression without restraint.” If you want to know how Pantone chooses the color of the year, we explained it here. Even if the choice of color has no real explanation, in fact the shade of the year is often a reason for choice for the world of fashion and even jewelry.
For example, for magenta, jewels in this shade can be different: from rubellites with a dark pink note, to tourmalines, or spinel, while for ruby it is more difficult to identify a red shade with a blue note background. However, there are magenta colored agates, as well as quartz, beryl and a variety of the stone called tiger’s eye, which is a variety of quartz.
Only natural gems for Xiao Wang
What could the daughter of a recycled metals trader with a mining grandfather do in life? The fate of Xiao Wang, jewelry designer and founder of her small Maison in New York, was written in her destiny. To these roots we must also add to his confessed passion for manga and pop art. But, in truth, the designer’s story does not end here, because before focusing on jewels, which are also distributed through large online platforms, Xiao Wang was also an actress and model: she also studied fashion design at Fit in New York.
Xiao Wang’s jewels are made of recycled gold, but another (rather rare) aspect is the rule of using natural colored gemstones, that is, not treated with chemical products, oils or heated to make the color more intense or correct defects. Tourmalines, fancy colored diamonds, emeralds, are therefore offered in the same conditions as they were in the earth, apart form.
GemCloud, precious stones are online
Describing it as the Amazon of gemstones would be wrong. But, of course, GemCloud wants to use technology to create a large online gem market. The goal, however, is not just that. The technological platform (https://www.gemolith.com) is not limited to being a large supermarket of precious natural gems extracted from all over the world, but also introduces a kind of standard. Because, as Veronica Favoroso, CEO of GemCloud, explains, today transactions in the gemstone sector are mainly made with personal meetings and are based on trust. While the diamond industry has long codified the criteria of judgment (the famous four Cs), there is no commonly adopted language to describe colored gemstones. And this creates confusion.
That’s why we’ve also integrated our color and clarity grading to allow shoppers to filter their search based on the specific quality they’re looking for. For special requests, we have built a dedicated section where buyers can send us the specifications of the gem they need. A Gemolith expert then comes back to them with several options.
Philippe Ressigeac, Coo of GemCloud
Among other things, as if that weren’t enough, now there is also the covid, which hinders the possibility of traveling. GemCloud, therefore, decided to introduce a standardized system, which includes the classification by colored gemstones, and digital tools that connect different players in the sector. This solution can enable a guaranteed online gemstone trade. After a run-in period, today the company has built a network of suppliers and buyers all connected by the company’s business management solutions and GemCloud’s enhanced markets. Since then, GemCloud has worked with leading global retailers, major mining companies and gem dealers around the world – all of which adopt the management system that enables control of the supply chain. The digital system adopted also has a name: Gemolith.
GemCloud has offices in several key markets: London, Bangkok, New York and Hong Kong. And those who log on to the website find, in fact, a large selection of gems that come from all over the world. One of the strengths is the user experience: the gems are presented in a clear way, with interactive images that allow you to see the gem in 3D and with all the data available to make a purchase choice. At the moment there are over 10,000 gems in the catalog, with the most common cuts or unique pieces: over 28 different types of gems from over 20 origins, including rubies, sapphires, emeralds, spinels, tourmalines, garnets and other precious stones. Each gem comes with its own lab report, high quality images and video. In addition, the site also offers an educational path for those who want to deepen their knowledge of gems.
Our priority has been to create solutions that encourage responsible sourcing. Today, more than ever, we are all aware of the importance of having sustainable practices and feel very privileged to be in a position to lead our community to do better.
Veronica Favoroso, CEO of GemCloud
GemCloud has formalized a working relationship with the Colored Gemstones Working Group (CGWG) to collaborate on the joint development of resources and tools for responsible sourcing and manufacturing for the colored gemstone industry, available through the Gemstones and Jewelery Community Platform , an initiative to provide all members of the gemstone and jewelry industry with free resources and capacity building tools to learn more about key areas of sustainability and how to implement best practices within their business.
By TinyOm, the Stones line of jewelry: seven like the chakras of the Indian tradition ♦ ︎
Since you have already spelled your morning mantra, have do the usual sun salutation and performed the necessary yoga exercises, you can dwell on the new Stones line that is part of the Chakra Collection, an icon of the Tiny-Om brand.
The collection represents the seven energy centers of the body, according to Indian tradition, through the seven lotus flowers.

Leaving the books of law, in the Middle East Virginie has discovered her creative ability and has become passionate about yoga, which she practices and teaches. That’s why her jewels are closely linked to the oriental world. The name TinyOm, for example, derives from the Mantra Om, which celebrates the birth of the universe.
The new line, Stones, symbolizes the chakras through seven stones, associated with the seven chakras, seven colors and seven emotional states. The seven stones used are the pink tourmaline (Unity), the purple amethyst (Serenity), the blue iolite (Communication), the green peridot (Love), the yellow citrine (Fiducia), the orange cornelian (Creativity) and the garnet red (Roots). A tailor-made Valentine’s Day for Breil
The Valentine’s Day by Breil with the Stones collection. Images and price ♦ ︎
For San Valentino Breil proposes his idea of success, Stones. As the name suggests, it is a collection of jewels or, better than a system, which is all centered on the stones. But not so much for their intrinsic preciousness. The collection, in fact, boasts an innovative approach to customers, which allows you to configure a ring like a car. That is, maintaining the metal frame of the ring as a base in two different shapes (contrarié or solitaire), but with four variations, because the steel finish can also be chosen in pink. The rest of the car set up, ops, of the jewel is chosen by the customer, who can identify the stone and the cut. The gems are of different types: there are zircons, natural stones like agate and so-called hydrothermal, that is synthetic. Once the stone has been chosen, it is possible to identify its shape: round, with a faceted or larger and irregular heart shape. Prices are very low: about 85-90 euros the complete ring of stone mounted. Giulia Netrese
