Francis de Lara, high jewelery for the eyes

/

x

In Florence he studied jewelry design. But then John-Paul Pietrus became an acclaimed fashion photographer. Having achieved success, however, he decided to return to his first love and launched his own jewelry brand, Francis de Lara. With a particular aspect: alongside the classic earrings and rings, he also offers jewel-glasses. They are unique pieces that, next to polarized lenses, show off gold and precious stones, as well as present an innovative design. They take between 250 and 750 hours to make: some even have clear lenses, to be worn in the evening.

The style of the photographer-designer is also surprising when it comes to jewelry. In many pieces it is easy to guess an inspiration from the Italian Renaissance, an artistic era particularly dear to John-Paul Pietrus. As in the Adam & Eve earrings, which consist of an apple made up of an amethyst and a fig leaf in gold. Or the Safari Sunset Bloom ring, a unique piece based on the Safari Sunset flower seen through the eyes of the Renaissance, with red rubies, an orange fancy brown diamond, amethyst and yellow gold. The center of the flower is dotted with an en tremblant black opal, with red and green fire.

In the dreams of Alcozer

New jewels inspired by the Renaissance of the Maison of Florence Alcozer ♦ ︎
If you like to imagine yourself in Renaissance Florence, at the palace of Cosimo de ‘Medici, with court music and Leonardo da Vinci painting The Battle of Anghiari, you can start with the luxury bijoux produced by Alcozer. In the Tuscan town, the company led by Giampiero Alcozer since 1994 produces collections that have the flavor of the far, but still alive, era that marked the entire western civilization. The choice is that of a compromise between jewelery and production in series. The result is jewelery that inspires the past, with semi-precious stones, pearls and Swarovski crystals, mounted on brass, then golden by galvanic baths. Although the inspiration is that of a secular tradition, there are also fun inventions, as in Dream Box pendants, which recall more than the 19th century open medallions and may contain small souvenirs. The prices are not Renaissance, but very in line with to the present days: from 100 to 300 euros in average. Giulia Netrese

The Maison Auclert’s wonders of jewelry

Maison Auclert, the charm of the past reinvented for the future ♦
From the old one borns the new, from the past comes the present, from the tradition comes the avant-garde. Following these vaguely zen precepts, the French designer Marc Auclert offers contemporary jewelry made up of old elements. Rectangles, triangles and gold rims are assembled as a sculpture, for example, using a pair of typical earrings in southern India. Those who are so original jewels have, in fact, a very ancient origin, dating back to the Renaissance.
During that period, the concept of using stones, lacquers, porcelains, new media to create unusual objects was born, for the pleasure of a sophisticated clientele, refined taste. Maybe to exhibit in a Wunderkammern, the rooms of the wonders that they liked so much in that historic period. These objects created by silversmiths or craftsmen in the interior are today the model that inspires Maison Auclert’s work. And it does it with a strict philosophy: it uses antique elements without making any modifications. In short, no permanent glue or drilling for stones and metals that are reinterpreted to create a jewelery that is reductive define as unique. Marc Auclert, on the other hand, knows well the value of the historical legacy of objects: he is a grandson of an antiquarian and he has loved contact with ancient jewels and unusual objects. His proposal is a testimony to that. Rudy Serra
