The incredible jewels by Mad

/

Mad, but not mad. If anything creative. The Parisian designer Alix Dumas is one of the novelties on the high jewelery stage. In 2020 she founded Mad, her Maison specializing in unique, imaginative, eclectic pieces. You recently participated in the Pad in the French capital, which allowed many to get acquainted with this new reality. The designer did not appear like a mushroom in the small forest of high jewelery: before dedicating herself to her baby, Maison Alix Dumas, she worked for five years in the workshop of a great name in jewelry.

Another unusual feature of Mad is that the workshop where Alix Dumas works is located in a pretty village in Brittany, Auray, although the jewels are later sold in Paris. Not only that: she loves to work directly on materials, instead of delegating the creation of jewels to specialized laboratories. The result of this work is surprising, as for the Hokusai Wave ring, inspired by the famous painting by the Japanese painter, made with sapphires and diamonds set in a silver set, which the designer personally shaped. High jewelry, in short, which also passes through the choice of using Fairmined gold, rigorously selected and selected precious stones, old-cut diamonds, cases handmade in France. In a couple of years she has already reached the top.

The rare jewels of Walid Akkad

//

Walid Akkad, from Lebanon to Paris for design jewelry with a Nordic taste ♦

Lebanon is a country blessed by nature and cursed by the civil war that for many years has upset the lives of its inhabitants. For this reason many have gone away in the past: many creative minds, like that of Walid Akkad, who moved to France. In Paris the designer studied jewelery, design, gemology, pearls. In short, everything you need to become a jewelry designer. But not just any one. His pieces are rare, very exclusive, with a modern and clean design, which would make one think of a Nordic rather than a Middle Eastern taste.

Walid Akkad realizes his jewels in the goldsmith laboratories of Paris, under his supervision. He loves the less known stones, the clean lines, the attention to detail. They are not jewels for everyone: one of the rare occasions when it goes outside are the editions of the Pad, an event reserved to art, antiques and a few selected jewels, in Paris but also in Montecarlo, Monaco or London. As happens, precisely, in the new edition of this exclusive fair.

The Pad of London’s novelties

The Pad of London with vintage jewelry, but also with modern design. Here is a selection ♦ ︎
Here is another appointment for art lovers, antiques and jewels, vintage or modern: the Pad of London. In the heart of Mayfair, the chic quarter of the British capital, the Pad is London’s premier exhibition for art, design and decorative arts of the twentieth century. Many galleries, but also single jewelery Maison, want to be present at the Pad to show the best of the selected visitors. It has its own boutique structure: it’s like a concentrate of cultural and wealth at the same time. This year the fair takes place from 3 to 8 October at Berkeley Square W1. There are also jewels. Some, vintage ones are shown by antiquety signatures such as Siegelson, which this year presents valuable pieces of Cartier’s of Thirties. But there are also design signatures like German Hemmerle or Swiss Suzanne Syz: super-modern jewelery, for true connoisseurs, of great class. Or the London-based artist and designer Eliane Fattal, who has collaborated with SJ Phillips, the antique jewelry mecca for 2011, to create unique, historic and modern pieces. It presents resurrected jewelry as contemporary, wearable and sometimes transformable pieces: flowers, leaves, insects, butterflies and animals that have no rivals in their genre.
