Art jewels in Lugano

A new appointment between art and jewelery in Lugano (Switzerland). The Kromya Art Gallery (Viale Franscini, 11) hosts the exhibition Precious Perspectives. Works and jewels in dialogue dedicated to the works of the architect and designer Eleonora Castagnetta with bronze works by the artist Alex Pinna. The exhibition is curated by Paola Stroppiana, an art historian. The initiative aims to reassign the artist’s jewel a leading role in the contemporary context. “Jewelery as a work of art, perfectly finished, is able to express the strength of creativity on a par with other disciplines, integrating the peculiar expressive-creative dimension of the artistic artefact with the characteristic of wearability.

From this consideration, the new perspectives for reading the work of the two artists involved are born: Alex Pinna, sculptor, and Eleonora Castagnetta, architect, each decline the jewel according to their own expressive language, finding in it an admirable formal and conceptual opportunity to transpose their own personal poetics “. Eleonora Castagnetta exhibits some unpublished works, inspired by Italo Calvino’s The Invisible Cities, transforming four of the utopian cities described in the volume into a jewel: Dorotea, Fedora, Sofronia and Tecla: silver and enamel brooches with gold and diamond details, in a casket which contextualizes its dimension. The exhibition itinerary is enriched by the presence of other jewels, previously made, inspired by great masters of architecture and the Bauhaus: the Mognolo ring (for the realization of which he drew inspiration from the Church of San Giovanni Battista in Mogno, Switzerland , designed by the internationally renowned architect Mario Botta, with whom Eleonora collaborated for 13 years); Ziggurat; Tribute to Le Corbusier and Tribute to the Bauhaus.

The gentle geometry of Adelio Rossini

Good news from the world of jewelry: there are still those who want to do, to propose, to confront the market. In this specific case the novelty is called Adelio Rossini. The even more interesting aspect is that it is a historical name, which now resumes the road interrupted by the crisis (not this one, that of world finance ten years ago).

The story began in 1988, when Adelio and Maria Grazia Rossini started a craft workshop, Stilnovo, in the district of Valenza (Italy). The company has grown and has worked, and still works, as a subcontractor for major jewelry brands. Over the years it has acquired solid expertise and, above all, “has reached a high standard of quality, necessary for working with Maison that sell on the international market”, says Maria Grazia Rossini.

At the beginning of the new century, the leap into the retail market was decided with its own brand, Adelio Rossini. However, an activity that was put on stand-by following the 2008 world recession: the company continued work on behalf of third parties. But, as often happens, it is a new generation that promotes change. Claudio Rossini, son of the founders, organized the great return of the brand to business. “We decided to return to the market with the Adelio Rossini brand and to focus on quality jewelry, but at an affordable price”, explains Claudio Rossini. The average price range varies between 99 and 700 euros, depending on the material used: silver, or silver bathed in gold. We go up, however, for the jewels in only 18 carat gold.

The realization of the jewels is concentrated in San Salvatore Monferrato, near Valenza, while the design takes place in the Lugano office (Switzerland). “Unpretentious jewels, which can be worn every day, even if you are wearing blue jeans,” adds Maria Grazia Rossini. “I would call them jewels with a gentle geometry”. In short, the machine has restarted. The distribution focuses on online shopping and, to start, on Milan and Lugano, where the jewels have already found the first showcase.

Vanessa Martinelli’s candies

/

The Caramelle (candies) collection by Swiss designer Vanessa Martinelli. But beware: are not for eat ♦ ︎

The gluttony is a sin? Are you on a diet and can’t eat sweets? Fortunately, there are the first candies that are not fattening. Also because you don’t eat they: the Caramelle collection by Vanessa Martinelli is dedicated to the little sweet that everyone loves, big and small, but that not all women can afford to eat. Vanessa Martinelli’s candies, on the other hand, hang around the neck. They are in gold with a semi-precious stone at the center, such as topaz or amethyst, surrounded by a pavé of sapphires, which represents the paper that wraps the cake. Who knows, perhaps Vanessa, who maintains an enviable body fit, has thought of a jewel that satisfies even the greedy, since she also proposes ice cream-shaped cone-shaped earrings.

A lotus flower for Vanessa Martinelli

A new line of jewels from the Swiss designer Vanessa Martinelli, who this time prefers mother of pearl ♦ ︎
There are two people who are called Vanessa Martinelli and who were born in Lugano but work in Geneva. One is a designer of Swiss jewelry that loves the colors and charm of the East. The other is practically identical, but those who do not know it are swapping for a trendy blogger model, friend with known characters and with a fast selfie. Which of them has just drawn a collection of jewels that use the mother of pearl to make earrings and pendants from the shape of the classic lotus flower? Both of them, maybe a Vanessa suggested to other Vanessa, who knows. In any case, the Oriental inspiration collection, which is added to the jewels that use the Buddha figure already introduced with others jewels, is the news.
Before founding, in 2012, her jewelery company, when Vanessa Martinelli was very young, also worked as a model in Milan. This explains the double face of the designer who studied at Central Saint Martins in London, followed the courses at the Gemmological Institute of America in New York, where she graduated in gemology and explored the world of pearls working a year in Hong Kong as creative director, before choosing Geneva as home to her own Maison.
