The sweet sculpture by Valeria Gurgone

We begin to reveal a secret: the name. Many have asked themselves this, but only a few Sicilians have managed to understand the meaning of the Icudal brand. We do it: you have to read the word backwards: it becomes Laduci. Even so it doesn’t say much to non-Sicilian people. The duci in Sicilian means sweetness and is a very common saying. Sweetness that the creator of this puzzle, Valeria Gurgone, identifies with her land, Sicily, and in particular in the city of Marsala where she has her roots. However, she works in Lucca (Tuscany), after studying jewelry design at the IED in Milan, a first level master’s degree in Jewelery Engineering at the Turin Polytechnic and some work experience as a designer in Milan and Valenza Po.

The leap in quality of her as founder of her jewelry brand took place in 2015, with a showroom and laboratory in the center of the Tuscan town. Passionate about design, with a predilection for Philippe Starck, Valeria Gurgone models jewels in a traditional way, from the sketch to the wax model. She offers jewelry in bronze, silver and gold, sometimes with the addition of gems. He works on two levels: jewelry, even bespoke, with a simple line with a touch of personalization, for example for engagement rings, or with sculptural pieces, in which iconic figures or animal shapes, such as the lion, are miniaturized. A sign that sweetness can also inspire respect.

Antonini in Lucca with Moi et Toi

/

Journey from South to North or, more precisely, to the center of Italy. After the collections dedicated to Syracuse and Matera, the Milanese brand Antonini goes up the peninsula to stop in Tuscany: the new collection, in fact, is inspired by Lucca. Small city, but with a great artistic heritage, Lucca is located close to the Apennine mountains. And it is precisely the contrast between plowed fields, woods and sky that alludes to the choice of semi-precious stones used: blue topaz, green amethyst and smoky quartz. The stones are set in a white or rose gold setting, polished or satin inversion. In addition, small diamonds are lined up on the metal circle.

The Lucca collection also adds a further elaboration in the Moi et Toi line, with rings that use opposing stones, two or three (moi, toi and the other?). The same idea is chosen for the earrings, also in this case in versions with two or three stones. In the Toi & Moi line, it should be noted that other stones have also been added, such as citrine and amethyst.

Rue des Mille magnetism

/

The Stardust Magnetica collection by Rue des Mille, inspired by the world of the night.
In Via dei Mille (the number refers to the red shirts that followed Garibaldi) there are many in Italy. On the other hand, there is only one Rue des Mille. It is that of the Pieroni family, who four years ago in Lucca decided to launch their own brand with this brand, after a long activity of suppliers in the goldsmith sector. Giacomo and Tommas Pieroni, at the helm of the company together with their mother Antonella, have decided to make a change appropriate to the times. Silver jewels dipped in pink gold plating, which makes the jewels light, with an affordable price (on average it ranges from around 70 euros for a ring to 200 euros) and very modern.

For example, the Stardust Magnetica collection. The magnets have nothing to do with it: the rings, the numerous earrings, bracelets and necklaces made of silver plated with the addition of small cubic zirconia are aimed at attracting not iron, but people in flesh and blood, perhaps during an evening at the disco . In short, casual jewels, at an affordable price and aimed mainly at young women.

An Evolution for Ziio

/

The new Evolution bracelets by Ziio are adjustable to adapt them to the wearer ♦ ︎

According to Charles Darwin, nature provides for slow modifications of plants or animals to improve their evolutionary capacity. In short, adapting to one’s environment or gaining more space is a common goal of all living beings. Now it is also that of certain jewels. This is the case, for example, of Ziio, a company from Lucca (Tuscany) founded in the early 1980s by designer Elisabeth Paradon. Ziio’s jewels are colorful, fun and exuberant like the birds of the Amazon forests.

Like the colored plumage of birds, even Ziio’s jewels are created to draw attention to the wearer. With some evolutionary changes over time: like Evolution, a new bracelet with the silver cufflink that bears the brand’s signature, and that is adjustable, removable and able to change its length. In short, the evolution of the species does not mean abandoning its own identity, but only modifying it for the better.
