Giada beats diamonds at Sotheby’s auction

Top and flop at the high jewelery auction organized by Sotheby’s in Hong Kong. In summary: disappointment with precious stones, enthusiasm for jade. Overall, however, the sale of Magnificent Jewels totaled over $ 39.2 million, which is no small amount. To disappoint, in particular, were jewels considered the bestq pieces. Starting with the ring with a 118.88 carat unheated cushion cut Royal Blue Burmese sapphire, ranked at the top of its category. The jewel was withdrawn without being sold. Identical destiny for a vivid blue diamond with a flawless pear-shaped interior of 4.84 carats, set in a platinum and rose gold ring next to two brilliant-cut diamonds. Estimated at $ 8.4 million, it found no buyers

And not sold were also two pear-shaped disassembled diamonds weighing 15.83 and 15.25 carats, estimated at 2.5 million. So far the flops. But the successes are also to be recorded. Jade, a stone that is legendary in Asia, got its revenge with a necklace of 43 imperial jadeite pearls, a name reserved for the highest quality stone, which sold for 8.1 million dollars. But, in truth, a 5.22-carat brilliant-cut fancy deep blue diamond, set on a platinum and white gold ring, also sold for 4.4 million, just above its highest estimate.

Success also for a 6.41-carat unheated pigeon blood-colored Burmese ruby, mounted on an 18-karat yellow and white gold ring and surrounded by diamonds, designed by Forms, a high-end jewelery house in Hong Kong. The jewel was sold for 2.8 million dollars. Somewhat surprisingly, however, an 18-karat white and rose gold ring designed by Nicholas Lieou was not awarded, with a 24.88-carat jadeite cabochon paired with a 2.08-carat fancy vivid oval purplish pink diamond . Er estimated to be up to $ 1.9 million. Federico Graglia

In Hong Kong, a 5-carat blue diamond is sold: it is the king in Sotheby’s auction. But there is also Wallace Chan ♦ ︎

The season of big auctions is come back and amazing stones, fabulous jewels and collector’s items are to buy. The October 3 appointment in Hong Kong on 3 October with the Magnificent Jewels auction at Sotheby’s, for example, includes several interesting pieces in the catalog. The king, according to estimates, could be a 5-carat blue fancy diamond ring.

The diamond, as in the best traditions, also has a name: Ai, the word that Chinese means love.

The estimate of the ring is 12.5-15.3 million dollars. But of course when it comes to auctions in Hong Kong jade comes into play. At auction there is, for example, a necklace consisting of 51 emerald green jadeite pearls, with a translucency considered “very good”. The necklace is closed with a chaumet diamond clasp. Two lavender jade bracelets, on the other hand, are so precious that they will be sold separately. The maximum sales estimate is close to $ 900,000 each.

Another collector’s piece is signed by Wallace Chan, an artist-designer who lives and works in Hong Kong.

Among the jewels, stands out also a pair of earrings with bright yellow diamonds in brilliant antique European cut weighing 51.17 carats, valued between 4.8 and 6.1 million. The design of the jewel is inspired by the fruits of melon.
The auction also features a selection of jeweler’s necklaces such as Van Cleef & Arpels and David Morris, as well as a vintage Bulgari suite and a carefully selected jewelery selection from the 1950s and 60s from an illustrious private collection.

This is the Circle of Heaven

A rare jade bracelet, great classic jewelry and Ashley Judd’s earrings at Sotheby’s in Hong Kong ♦ ︎
The great auctions come back with great jewels for big wallets. Everything is great at Sotheby’s auction on April 3rd in Hong Kong. For enthusiasts collectors of the Orient, the “highly translucent” jadeite bracelet will certainly be exciting, considered the most precious piece of the Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite auction. Sotheby’s has the aim of selling pieces for $ 93.6 million.
The assessment of the simple circle ranges from 10.2 to 12.8 million dollars. The most expensive round in history, perhaps. The bracelet also has a name: The Circle of Heaven. It has a full color, emerald green with “fine texture”. The name, apart from the perfection of the geometric form, derives from the fact that in China the tradition considers jadeite as the Stone of Heaven.
But there is not only the much appreciated jade auction, which also includes classic vintage jewelry, including a series of pieces in Art Deco style. A few samples: a Burmese ruby ring with a 24.70 carat cushion cut is valued at 11.8 million dollars. A 14.1 carat blue diamond surrounded by brilliant cut diamonds set in platinum and 18k rose gold is valued at up to 7.7 million.
Other interesting pieces are those found in a collection of designer earrings called Jewels for the Red Carpet. It is a collection inspired by actress Ashley Judd at the Golden Globe of 2018: she wore a pair of earrings with emeralds and diamonds by Martin Katz, which will be included in the auction and are valued at $ 256,000. Also in this part of the auction are earrings of keshi pearls, rock crystals and diamonds by the designer-artist Wallace Chan (valued up to $ 83,500), a pair of earrings with aquamarine and diamonds by Cartier (179,000), earrings with Bhagat spinels and diamonds (179,000) and a pair of Cindy Chao diamond earrings (109,000).
