Jewelry with Botticelli by Freywille

Botticelli’s Primavera and Birth of Venus are famous paintings of the Italian Renaissance. They are tempera paintings on wood painted by Sandro Botticelli between 1480 and 1485 and today they are kept in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. Both paintings are among those images that have been reproduced many times to become a kind of icon, like the equally famous Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci.

Now Botticelli’s paintings have also become the source of inspiration for a collection of the Viennese brand Freywille, which has always created collections that have large paintings or works by famous painters as their subject. The collections dedicated to Botticelli consist of rings, earrings and necklaces, 18-karat gold chains with a pendant hanging from them. Botticelli’s Primavera and Venus, however, are barely mentioned, perhaps for a copyright issue, or for an artistic choice. The jewels are also in gold, with lively enamel colors that recall some features of the painting.

Freywille’s artistic almonds

//

The jewels by Freywille are inspired by the world of art: for over 30 years Friedrich Wille and the creative director, Simone Grünberger-Wille (they are married) have been offering jewels inspired by the work of great painters of the past. A passion and a mission that takes shape in an unmistakable style, created in 1980 and which is still characteristic for today’s brand. Enamels of different colors make up small surfaces that recall the paintings of famous artists. As in the new Almond collection, which includes earrings and pendants for necklaces.

Again the central motif is made in fired enamel and applied to the almond-shaped pendants, which are covered with a 24-karat gold plating. The compositions are inspired by painters such as Claude Monet and Gustav Klimt and, in this case the design features an additional element of the Freywille spirit: a pair of sphinx wings, which are applied on the top of the jewel.

Freywille gives enamel to Monet and Klimt

Monet and Klimt together in Vienna. On jewels with enamel and gold plated by Freywille ♦ ︎
In Vienna the jewel is also synonymous with enamel. Freywille, founded in 1951 by artist Michaela Frey, has become a jewelery that is now part of the tradition and has created a style. Its gold-plated jewels and, above all, decorated with brightly colored enamels are unmistakable. Now Freywille is expanding its offer with Helena pendants. Of course, the pendants are inspired by the work of famous painters.
The choice is the result of the marriage born in the 1970s between Michaela Frey, who wanted to focus on the creative part, and Friedrich Wille, who managed the company and internationalized the brand. After the death of Michaela Frey in 1980, Wille became the owner of the company and asked another artist, Simone Grünberger (then Grünberger-Wille) to create a new line of jewelery. Graduated in Design at the Applied Arts University, Grünberger-Wille developed the enamel technique. Among her choices is also to dedicate jewels to the work of other painters. And here are bracelets, rings and pendants that evoke the traits of Monet, Klimt or Alphonse-Mucha. Prices: pendants, which can also be purchased online, cost 485 euros, bracelets 835 euros. Strolling with Klimt

The art of Gustav Klimt multiplies on bracelets, earrings, rings and pendants by the Viennese Freywille. Images and prices.
Freywille was founded in 1951 in Vienna by the artist Michaela Frey, she had a virtuous use of enamels. At the beginning the production was been focused on decorative objects in enamel, later came the jewelry. Obviously, then, in the city that was capital of arts in Central Europe, a company that has a similar origin respects the artistic vocation. Michaela Frey has found the ideal partner in Friedrich Wille: to her the artistic direction, to him the trade. Half a century later, in Vienna Freywille it is still synonymous with art combined with the jewelry. So much so that in the house logo appeared suffix «Pure Art». Today, led by Simone Grünberger-Wille, the Viennese company offers collections, not only jewelry, inspired by famous painters. He could not miss Gustav Klimt, one of the most famous Viennese artists of the so-called Viennese Secession, and inspiration for lovers, thanks to his painting called The Kiss. The decorative motifs that appear on Klimt paintings are used to a collection of jewelry with gold plating and colored enamels. The sinuous shapes, abstract, painted by the Austrian painter, are used for bracelets, rings and earrings (you can buy online as well). Prices: a bracelet costs 935 euro, 360 euro a ring, a pendant 650 euro. Alessia Mongrando
